People who are against radios as spawning gear dont seem to be considering a few factors. 1. Not everyone spawns at the same time 2. Not everyone will have a live battery 3. You can change the channel 4. You can drop the radio 5. This is a guaranteed way to increase player interaction, as well as providing a way to communicate about server specific issues (lag, hacking, admin abuse)

I feel like I should mention that I only advocate that radios be starting gear for ALPHA and BETA phase of the game.
-
Walkie talkies will allow an optional side chat, which also allows players to communicate about server specific issues ("hey, is this server lagging bad for anyone else? Did the admin just abuse banning privileges?")
-
I totally agree with Brian Hicks that radios should be starting gear, at least in alpha/beta phase of dayZ as a form of alternative, opt in, side chat. I always carry one, but I tend to play on a chosen, local, public server and I've never once had any radio contact aside from friends I knew were on the server already, and I could of joined in teamspeak. Walkie talkies will allow an optional side chat, which also allows players to communicate about server specific issues ("hey, is this server lagging bad for anyone else? Did the admin just abuse banning privileges?") I personally believe that a global side chat does not belong in dayZ, and the kill count definately does not belong. But that's just IMO.

Plz yes radios, if you dont want to talk, just drop the radio.
-
I did this myself once, I spread walkie talkies with batteries around electro on a highly populated server then used a soundboard to project Half-Life 2 combine radio chatter. I got some good reactions from that.

As someone who has played since the early mod dayZ. I'm fine with your idea. Here are some random thoughts. I do not play private hive. I love that I can take my same character to different servers. It allows me to avoid fully populated servers, and play with friends in different time zones more easily without having to start as a new character every time. I dont want restricted hives because I dont want to have to fight to get into the same server if it's full population. It's true server hopping is the issue with this, but there's going to be downsides with every type of server, public or private, restricted or not. People will complain about server hopping and hacking, but that's not always my experience with it, as someone that plays low pop I've only seen one or two hackers in DayZ SA since it's release in dec 2013.

I'm just curious, I remember that the defib was supposed to be the only way to "cure" a heart attack when someone goes unconscious with an irregular pulse. Does this mechanic still exist or is the defib just another way to kill people (have no medicinal value). I identify as a DayZ medic so I'm very familiar with the medical mechanics of the game.

Does the Heart Attack mechanic still exist?

No. If you do that you will kill the player. -
Thanks for the patch! Glad the gunshot sounds were fixed. I will play this one tonight when I get off work. Keep cold survival hard!

Dear Devs. Please keep the elements as being deadly. I want a "survival" patch.

It was this thread. I asked that question.

Dont worry about it. Eventually they'll get a stable exp build and that will probably run all weekend. All they're doing here is collecting some crash data, because they cant replicate the crashes on internal builds. When they're finished and they fix the problem they're probably going to leave stable up at least a couple days just to make sure.

.61.135829 I've been playing on "US SOUTHWEST 0-3" Both today and yesterday. Yesterday I was able to pay for aprox 20 minutes before it crashed. Today it has been less than 5 minutes per sessions. I've had 3 crashes so far. 2 of the resets I lost my character, one of them it stayed. Will edit if i get to play longer and find more to report. Edit 1: GUYS PLEASE REMEMBER TO PUT WHICH VERSION YOU'RE PLAYING ON IN YOUR POST

Version 0.61.135794 Things I noticed playing .61 Exp. (not sure if any of them warrent the bug tracker). I got to play on the southwest US server for approximately 20 minutes before the servers went down, I only experienced one crash. - The .22 was super loud (the only gun i found) - Zombies were quiet in comparison to previous versions of the game - VOIP was SUPER LOUD, i ran into someone and they were so loud I almost threw my headphones off my head. - I only experienced one crash -Player actions were more quiet (eating, running, breathing) I thought I wasn't going to like the new server menu, but I actually really do. I cant wait for the queue. AND I LOVED LOVED LOVED THE NEW LIGHTING

I remember the early temperature patches. I think I've died to hypothermia directly maybe twice in my dayZ experience. I understand the hosts are going to be able to set seasons later on, I was just curious if the current patch was set to be summer because it was released in July. I remember .59 was released late fall or early winter, and was colder. So I had kind of assumed that whatever patch dropped was just clocked to whatever season at the time.
-
Does this mean DayZ will be moving away from 'seasons' and weather will be random throughout the year and across servers? I had kind of assumed that the current patch was just adjusted to whatever "season" was clocked at the time.

@Hicks_206 (DayZ) Any word on if .61 is going to be a "colder" patch than .60? I would love to have to build fires again, and wear winter clothing! #MakeDayZcoldagain

You could always answer my earlier question about whether or not the light render distance will change this coming patch, or is still being held off until beta ;p Like this screenshot. Will flares do this with the light render upgrade in .61? Look how far away that is :D BTW: keep up the great work, I love how everything is coming along.

@Hicks_206 (DayZ) Hello Hicks and the DayZ dev team. Just wanted to say I absolutely loved the Oct, 22 preview video. Good luck getting the last of the blockers taken care of. If I had to give an opinion, after looking at the Status report I have to say that I do not like that I cant tell if a server is morning/evening, just day/night. Why get rid of the clock?
-
@Hicks_206 (DayZ) I was wondering if with the implementation of the light render upgrade, will we be able to see flares/lights from kilometers again? Like this picture from the mod. Or is this something that will continue to happen with balance passes.... ala dayZ beta?
-
@Hicks_206 (DayZ) I'm very, very excited about the light rendering fix. I made this post a few months ago asking about light render distance per item instance. Do you think with .61 the instances for campfires and flares is going to be increased? I remember in the mod being able to see campfires and flares while flying a helicopter. And I feel like since smoke now comes out of the chimneys of the houses, it would add a lot to the atmosphere of the game if you're able to see smoke rising out of a chimney (and a house thats has light coming from the fireplace) from a kilometer or two away. The response I got was that the light iteration would change around beta. Just curious if this was changing or not with this update.

Thanks so much for the update preview! Glad to hear hypothermia might be back as a threat this next patch. Keep up the good work!

Hi. I have two questions in regards to the new sound engine and I was wondering if anyone could help. Question 1: I was wondering if with the implementation of the new sound engine, are the ambient noises like the fence and bird chirping going to go away? The fence one is really the one that gets me. Question 2: I play this game on 5.1 surround sound, and when i run around in first person the breathing overwhelmingly comes through my center speaker, it's a horrible distraction and it's one of the main reasons i dont primarily play on 1st person only servers. Is this going to change?
