    The UMP

The arguing of the realistic damage from pistol rounds all seems off imo. They are pistol rounds, pistols are not super lethal. People die or become incapacitated from gunshots via mass bloodloss, which means a bigger hole, or more holes. So the nitpicking of the 45 vs 9mm is a tale as old as time. I think that aside from headshots, unarmored infected or players shouldn't immediately go unconscious or die unless shot at LEAST 3 or 4 times from either 9mm or 45 in the torso, or maybe 5+ in limbs, within rapid succession. Only then do I believe that someone would go unconscious and/or die. Popping someone in the chest with a 9mm rd (unless it was in the heart maybe) isn't going to make them fall over and die. Anyone who has been in any firearms self defense class can attest to this. Trying to argue which of those two rounds should only require 1 less shot to kill, is pointless and beyond the scope of DayZ. for those interested, take a look at this: theboxotruth.com

    Wound infection

This is completely subjective and just opinion, just like OP's statement, and some of mine. What I've found is that mods are what make this game great and viable. It allows a place for every type of player to enjoy the game. So that's basically my go-to response (for myself) and others; find a modded server that suits your playstyle

    Wound infection

This is why I'm sticking to modded servers. Trumps wall for example, idk what they do, but it's much easier. Almost too easy though. It's probably bc there is pop everywhere, which helps hydration and hunger, so your immune system is better. I struggled a lot on vanilla servers like you, but once I switched to this modded server, I haven't died once due to sickness or hunger. Still would like to find a modded server that's slightly more challenging though. Also not a fan of the gun mods that add every single gun ever made irl. All of the modern guns to choose from at tents is overwhelming.

    Cholera/Influenza (returning player)

I've played plenty so I'm not totally new. Everything is tweaked enough now that I'm unsure. Also, I no longer have time to play the game 10 hours a week like I used to, so the limited time I do have (1-2 hours a week) I'd like to make the best of it and get as much information as possible so I'm not grinding for dumb shit like tetra bc I got hit by an infected. This was my point in another post; not everyone has a lot time to game, so a little tutorial for very green players about how the mechanics and the UI work would be great, you know, like most games do? Otherwise they spend their little valuable gaming time trying to learn trivial things such as these. If your response is "tough shit, that's part of the game" then this game is going to fizzle out even quicker than it has thus far. Ultimately, if you don't like my questions, your free to scroll on by 👍

    Cholera/Influenza (returning player)

Where is the best place to find tetra? I searched a couple blue medical houses and didn't find anything but saline and blood bags. The illness's in this game are non-intuitive and it seems greatly over complicated. Or a maybe it's just bc your illness isn't accurately communicated to the player. My buddy finally gave it a try yesterday and we had no idea what was wrong. New players of any game shouldn't have to dive into forums to learn what a mechanic is doing to them in game. I can't think of another title that requires this. Another reason I preferred the early status indicators that clearly stated what was wrong instead of a mysterious icon. They ought to at least have a first time startup pop-up tips or something to alert the new player what is wrong and what they need to do to fix it.

    Heavy swing is broken.

Yeah I had it bound to a thumb button so that was making it not work. This will be nice to utilize lol.

    Tips for returning player?

Well, I've joined the Trumps wall server and it's awesome. Loot everywhere (about what it was pre 1.0, on average), including pop. No stamina gets used when sprinting. Night times are quite as dark either. Almost TOO easy but I like it for now. I think the modded servers are where it's at. It's breathed new life into this game for me. 2000 hours of gameplay pre beta and I thought this game was done for me. However, I'm now not going to be getting shit done around house.....
  8. It's been a couple years since I've played. Seems like food is non-existent. I used to be able to craft a stone knife at the beach, run into the woods and survive on crafting improvised gear. Now, if you don't find food in the first 15 minutes of gameplay, you die. What is the trick because it seems they've neutered many features made everything more difficult. Not complaining, just wondering what everyone's strategy is. Or is it all simply luck now? Thanks

    Heavy swing is broken.

I don't even know how to do a heavy melee. I did one shot a zombie with a kitchen knife from behind though

    Tips for returning player?

Yeah I've found killing infected is the best way to get canned food. Regarding temps, even when I have the pea coat that has high insulation, and a hat with high insulation, and some jeans, I get cold super fast. What is the trick here? We have to make fires every 20min?
  11. Just bought the DLC. I see no way to install Livonia, I now see a DayZ experimental "game" in my library. Is this it? I thought experimental branch was like the dev branch. Am I missing something?
  12. Nice! What map do you use? And can you list some of the mods you use on the server? I've basically been looking for a server that lightens the hunger mechanic a bit; be it altering the rate that you consume energy, or making food slightly easier to find. Also interested in some quality of life improvements, none come to mind though.

    Disgusting 2

People go on and on about the bow because it is an easily acquired ranged weapon as a new spawn. It's shitty but it was better than nothing, and it was just plain fun. Making an improvised bow irl isn't hard. It's obviously not going to be real high powered or accurate, but neither was the one in game. When I was younger my cousins and I made some with my uncle. Keyword is "improvised" not "laminated recurve", although it would be badass to see a compound and/or recurve bow added in game. Worth to consider that the Native Americans here in the US didn't have industrial manufacturing capabilities and they made hand made bows using sharp rocks. And they were damned accurate with them and killed large game. Just saying... Edit: to piggy back on this, I think it would be awesome to see improvised guns as well. They definitely exist and are not hard to make, arguably easier than a bow if you can find some basic materials and have a manufactured cartridge to use. Not accurate beyond 20yds but still pretty effective... But I agree, taking all the guns out is not an equivalent action to removing the improvised bow.

    Tips for returning player?

My response was to this comment. So take it my response however you'd like. You say it's easy to loot knives? Where do you typically find them? I spent two hours last night and looted 3 small villages and various barns and deer stands and never found a knife. I find hatchets periodically which helps though. I did finally find some stones last night to make a knife on a hiking trail. But I was dinking around in the village near it for quite some time. What is typically the amount of time required for stuff to spawn? Like 5 minutes? On a side note, is there a particular optimal method for killing infected now without taking damage? I watched TRMZ on twitch and looks like you hit them to stagger them then time it just right so you hit them before they hit you to stagger them again? Is this the best approach? And one last question, do the water bottles need to be disinfected or does the water just need to be purified or taken from a fountain?
  15. Looking for a lightly modded server that nerfs the hunger mechanic. As in, not as rapidly depleting hunger. Everything else I'm willing to deal with. I'd prefer to keep as much of the other gameplay as vanilla as possible. Platform: PC Region: Continental USA I played Dayz SA a LOT years ago and I'm trying to get back into it. I don't care for the grind just to find food and nothing else. That's extremely boring.
  16. Yeah, it's not for me. Guess I need to let it go. Different game now than it was pre 1.0. Thanks! At least DayZ still got their aerial vehicles via flying cars. 👍
  17. Right, the problem is finding a knife. By the time you do 75% of your health is gone. Not to mention you also have to find a chicken to make the hook. Or a gun to hunt bc they removed bows. I guess the best bet is still finding some kind of knife or make one if I can find the stones, then look for chickens. It's basically the same but the grind is now 3x as long as before. Not sure I have time for that anymore. But that's my problem. Bummer.

    Tips for returning player?

No its not that bad. But there are other mechanics that aren't just different, they are game changing that changes the entire Playstyle of the game. You can't really bash someone that is no longer interested in something if it's been changed to something completely different than what it once was. Nice to see the fanboys are still sucking the teet of BI.

    Tips for returning player?

Awesome! So they really did at it back in. Nice. I've had some really intense moments with broken legs, crawling around. One time in a medical hut I had several guys trying to come in through multiple entrances. Took them all out but by the end I was crawling around and gunning the last guy down as he was peeking my door

Yeah but you just limp around right? I mean broken where you have to crawl.

    Tips for returning player?

My god I was retarded yesterday. I meant removed broken legs. lol Does anyone know roughly the radius around you, and for how long you must be there, for things to start spawning? Deadside is very different to CURRENT dayz. Early SA was much more PVP oriented. Deadside has hunger and thirst, base building, crafting, etc. It's not too far off of DayZ except it's not marketed or intended to be a survival game. I love DayZ SA, and don't regret buying into EA, but bc of the piss poor design scope and project planning, I will never buy another EA game again. And I thank them for that lol.

    Tips for returning player?

Just saw all of your replies, thank you all. Didn't get notified for some reason. Anyway, it basically sounds the same as before, except rocks are harder to find, in order to make a knife. Plus it seems like the negative effects are all accelerated. Disappointing that they removed broken legs. Not surprised in the slightest that the vehicles are still broken. Are they still space ships? That's probably the biggest black eye for this new engine, complete joke. Basically, it just sounds like all they did to make it more "extreme" was make everything more tedious. Might just go back to Deadside, but I can't get over how bad games look with the Unreal Engine. DayZ has always looked amazing.
  23. @Parazight I botched the title. I am looking for recommendations for a modded server that nerfs the hunger mechanic a bit. I copy pasted this from my deleted post on reddit and forgot to edit the contents to ask the actual question too. Sorry

    DayZ Update 1.13

No I have not even tried it. I tried it in the mod and the screaming ambient noise was too annoying. Problem is that I can't get inland far enough to get loot, by that time I am nearly dead. Although, I forgot that cannibalism is a thing....maybe I'll have to resort to that until I figure out a better strategy...is kuru back in? with all of it's side affects?

    DayZ Update 1.13

I made a separate post about this, but I'll ask here: What are some good survival tips out of the gate when spawning? Particular with warmth and food. It's been a couple years since I played, and I've been playing since sa launch. It's brutal now, or I'm just rusty.... I can't seem to find food, you get scratches from damn near everything, weapons are scarce, warm clothes are scarce. Used to be that I'd run into the woods right off the bat, and could craft some improvised tools to get me started, then find a crap gun good enough to hunt with, or I made a fishing rod and hook and fished. Camp stove with a tank, and pot were my pinnacle items I wanted to get and I felt like I could survive anything. That's not the case now. Any suggestions for a rusty veteran?
