Bored griefer douchebags kill respawned noobs on coast with truck! Cue crazed laughter!

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. It does seem that there are more instances being reported of server admins abusing their position. Fortunately I think they're still in the minority. Most admins are fair and provide an invaluable service to the community. Those I thank unreservedly.

And I wonder how many of them were duped? Like the OP, I've never had any luck finding NVG's in 370 hours of play. I've been to the barracks at NWAF, I've looted heli crash sites. I did read on the forums that some of the pilot zombies at heli crash sites carry them, so I may start having to shoot them instead of avoiding them.

So anyone here NOT shoot at first sight?
heretic (DayZ) replied to Reidlos's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't shoot on sight. I've only killed 3 other players in 370 hours of play. I remember each one and they all shot at me first. Kill 1. Survivor climbing down a ladder at the hospital in Berezino. I was nearby but didn't shoot. I only had a Makarov anyway. He gets to the bottom of the ladder turns and opens up on me with his Makarov. I hit him more times than he hit me. He died, I ended up in shock with a broken leg. Kill 2. In the Bistro in Elektro. I was upstairs after looting and was just coming back into the upper hallway/landing and saw another player at the top of the stairs pointing a Winchester at me. He fired at me and I fired back with my AK. He died on the stairway. I lost some blood, bandaged myself and went to loot his corpse and to go down the stairs. He had a friend in the downstairs hallway who shot me dead. Moral of this story... be more cautious. Check those corners and lean first! Kill 3. In one of the red brick buildings in Vybor. I was just about to exit the building when a ghillie suited wookie appears in the doorway before me armed with a handgun. He shot at me, I shot back with my winchester, he went down. But he left me bleeding heavily and with another broken leg. I crawled into one of the rooms to attempt to bandage myself and blacked out with the long timer running. I bled out before I could wake up. I can't count the number of times I've died to other players. Normally I'm shot in the back by somebody that has the drop on me. Most of the time I've never even seen the player concerned. You can minimise the risks by using fieldcraft and experience. But ultimately it all boils down to luck. If you see a player first, you have a choice. If they see you first. They have a choice. Most of them shoot. I don't. I've had the drop on a number of players and haven't pulled the trigger. Because I don't need to. I see them as another raggedy ass survivor just trying to get by and make it from day to day. I don't need/want what they have. I can get by alone. I have food, drinks, guns and ammo. And surviving doesn't have to be at another players expense. Given the choice I avoid other players and just do my own thing as I do in real life. There really are far too many assholes in this world. I choose not to be one of them. It's no different in DayZ. -

Yes. Great post. Should be required reading for all forum members. Laughter is definitely the best medicine... -
Rocket's overall plan.
heretic (DayZ) replied to FrankDaTank1218 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"That excuse" "You guys" "ignore it" ? What on earth are you talking about? From your response, I can tell that you didn't even read most of the replies. When you create a mod with 600,000 + players and are in charge of a development team you can decide what is good or bad development. Go for it! Until then, how about some constructive criticism, rather than just criticism! -
Solution to all of your DayZ problems? MAKE FRIENDS
heretic (DayZ) replied to MalleusX's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm a solo player. I don't whine... either in-game or on the forums. I don't even ask (let alone plead) for PvE only or PvP free zones. I'm not a casual player. I'm an Alpha tester! I don't get frustrated with DayZ. I do have a great time with DayZ. I am not helpless. Please don't make sweeping statements that are patently untrue. I do agree that finding friends to play with may help many of those that struggle with DayZ and your suggestion is valid. But the majority of players are and will remain solo. VOIP and a clan are not essential to a players enjoyment of DayZ. And in some ways, I feel that being a part of a clan/group means that you miss out on many of the emotion inducing experiences that make DayZ unique. After all if your buddies can just collect you in a vehicle and gear you up after a respawn, you're actually just skipping most of the challenge (and fun) involved in playing DayZ. Personally, that seems almost as bad to me as server hopping and DC'ing. But, as you say... it is a sandbox. There is no right or wrong way to play DayZ! I'm certainly not going to tell anybody else how to play. -
You've gotta laugh at these posters telling Rocket and the Devs what to do and how they should be doing it! It's Rockets mod! If you find a bug... report it in the bug reports sub-forum. If you have a suggestion... post it in the suggestions dub-forum. etc. Those are constructive, mature ways of helping to improve DayZ for everybody. Capitalising, ranting, raving, frothing at the mouth, bossing Rocket about and posting your puerile diatribes on the forums is not the way to go about things. Until you're the person paying Rocket and the devs for DayZ, it's just downright rude!

Radios to communicate and broadcast
heretic (DayZ) replied to I_Guts_I's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think in-game radios are a good idea. But I think that it needs to be kept as simple as possible (KISS). I love the idea of using ACRE etc. but think that it is probably overkill for DayZ. Using existing game mechanics to facilitate communication makes more sense to me. Perhaps finding a radio in-game should simply enable the group chat channel (or similar) for the players with radios. Just my thoughts on the idea. -
Character death should carry more weight
heretic (DayZ) replied to Lukio (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Sorry OP, but I think that this is possibly the worst idea I've (bothered to) read on the forums so far. Ok, we know that Rocket has described this as an anti-game.. but your suggestion is a tad too much in my opinion. Real life consequences (i.e timers) for in game misfortunes! No. The current system works well enough. Players who care about their 21 day old survivor, already have an emotional investment in that character and will care when he/she is killed. Players that are just gaming don't really care about anything other than their lost loot anyway. I think that it reflects the PvE vs. PvP discussion in some ways. Some like to role play and others just like to play. Attempts to make a player (as opposed to a role player) feel anything are unlikely to work, because that's the way they're wired. Trying to equalize the significance of a characters demise to the two broad types of player are doomed to failure. To some, a character death already carries enough weight... to others it'll only ever be an inconvenient pause in their personal hunt for that next player kill! -
World too big for own good?
heretic (DayZ) replied to Necrofix's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Decreasing the map size to pander to the whims of a CoD PvP FFA FPS DM KoS numpty would be a definite step backwards in my opinion. It would make DayZ just another shooter... Yawn! The huge (in game terms) environment is one of the things that helps DayZ (& ARMA2) stand out from the crowd. Bigger Maps. Different Maps. This is where I would like to see DayZ headed. Not down the road to conformist mediocrity. OP. Bad Idea. Maybe you are better suited to a different game! -
Test, Going in tonight and will shout friendly at all...

Awww. Shucks, Miss_Nuts. You're too kind. How about a link for your vid please? It sounds hilarious. -
You can't go too far wrong with the good old SMLE No.4. I've used them on the range many times and I always loved shooting them. They're pretty foolproof and easy to maintain. For reliability, it's difficult to find a better rifle. It's pretty good in DayZ too.

Good luck Miss_Nuts. Perhaps after your brave experiment, you may like to have your sanity chip replaced! :) -
Do you play with a loot map?
heretic (DayZ) replied to DDaron's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm lucky enough to have a three monitor setup. I keep http://dayzdb.com/map open in the left hand monitor. ARMA2 / DayZ running in the centre monitor. And normally VLC Player running a movie in the right hand monitor. -
I think the number and variety of wildlife could be increased as well. Deer (that's what the deer stands are for!), bears (kinda ties in with bear traps) etc. But emphasizing the survival aspects of play definitely holds some huge potential in my opinion. Good idea OP.

We just found a RED CAR labelled as a UAZ
heretic (DayZ) replied to jdotjdot7's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I found one of these on UK8 at the beginning of the week. Drove it through the forests for a bit and then decided to let discretion be the better part of valour and abandoned it. Solo player sitting in a bullet magnet! Not for me thanks. -

heretic (DayZ) replied to FrankDaTank1218 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've tried reason with this numpty and received no response at all. You're right. The butthurt is strong with this one! He deserves everything he gets. The OP is just trolling. "What could be more childish than that?" -
Rocket's overall plan.
heretic (DayZ) replied to FrankDaTank1218 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. My personal opinion is that the OP could find a better way to offer constructive criticism rather than simply being a critic! If you experience what you perceive as a bug... report it in the bug report sub-forum. If you have suggestions to improve the game (mod) - play experience... post them to the suggestions sub-forum. You claim that Rocket has "deliberately ruin[ed} it to upset the community all for the sake of experimentation". Evidently not all of the community agrees with you! Perhaps setting yourself up as being representative of the whole community, is part of what has brought your post such negative responses? Personally, I am enjoying many of the changes that Rocket has introduced, even the less than perfect ones! I haven't found starting with little more than a torch to hinder my overall enjoyment. The changes to zombie AI over the last few versions (apart from 1.7.1) have not adversely affected my game play experience either. I have simply had to adapt and improvise. OP. You may have been satisfied with the experience offered by version 1.7.5. But evidently Rocket, the Devs and many players aren't. To visit these forums and effectively criticize them for their ambition is inappropriate and inviting the type of responses that you predict in your original post. Perhaps, rather than assuming (making an ASS out of U and ME) that yours, Rockets (+Dev Teams) and the community visions of where DayZ is ultimately headed are the same! You could adopt a more positive, constructive approach and become a fully fledged member of the community rather than setting yourself above and apart from it (ironic, considering that you set yourself up as a community spokesperson). We are all in the envious position of having an opportunity to help to shape the future of DayZ (for better or worse)! I choose to adopt the positive, proactive approach. What do you choose? -
My best run of zombie kills was 268 with a 7 day character. Most with a trusty, but loud, Lee Enfield. My current survivor is on day 10 with about 34 zombie kills. I figure the best thing to do is to avoid them by using stealth where possible and when conflict is unavoidable make sure that I'm in an advantageous position.

I don't think that you can move the debug monitor, but you can resize the interface via the advanced video options menu. Which should stop the debug menu from covering the visibility/audibility meters. Hope that helps?
