You guys are actually doing it: Creating an engine for the future while simultaneously building a huge game to utilize it. It sounds like you have an organized plan that just may actually work. The audio is huge for immersion, and can't wait for "dynamically position based" SFX and the new lighting/shadows the most. I didn't realize at first how big of a step .61 may actually be...let me test it and I will report back :)

Good tips. Also, apple trees will save your life. Eat as many as you can, whenever you can.

Players Of DayZ - Topics I've Seen And Discussion[Try Something New]
JBURNS489 replied to Vexatious's topic in General Discussion
Server admins do a lot of things against their terms of hosting. There is no accountability or oversight, so people will continue to make server names "high loot fast respawn" and server admins will continue to kick and ban people for whatever reason they want. Until DayZ or Bohemia actually enforces their hosting terms, it will contonue to be a problem. Right now, its sort of like complaining that people are driving over the speed limit. Who cares, and who is going to do anything about it? -

I do not know the fix for it, but there are a ton of threads talking about it. I would suggest reading through the forum and look for someone who has already solved the memory could notbe read issue.

Looking for tech advice on a PC...
JBURNS489 replied to voiceoverbob's topic in Technology/Programming
Desktops will be a lot cheaper if you build it yourself. It isn't much harder than putting together legos, and will also teach you the skills to fix your computer in the future. With that being said, if you are dead set on buying a pre built machine, the 3rd link is your best bet. The 1st link shows a PC with a nvidia 720 1GB, which is not enough to play modern 3D games imo. I personally wouldn't go any lower than 2GB memory on your graphics card, and honestly most people use a minimum of 4GB +. The 2nd link does not work, so I have no comment on that machine. The 3rd machine has an r7 240 2GB for a GPU, which is truthfully already outdated. You can't even really crossfire that card because the 2GB video memory limitation would still exist no matter how many r7's you added in the future. From the choices you presented, the 3rd choice is the best for gaming. My advice would to be to hit up toms hardware forums and ask for advice on building a 500 dollar gaming PC, or browse the many similar threads already there. -
There is a game called The Forest that is developed by Endnight Games. They are an independent studio in Canada, and have literally NEVER made a game before. The Forest is their first title, and with a small staff and little to no experience , the game gets updates at an almost ridiculously fast pace. I would even go as far as to say the graphics are slightly better than DayZ (only because you dont see thing pop into high resolution 10m away). They are also still in early access, but you can expect a major patch at least once a month, and hotfixes almost daily. I love DayZ, but something is definitely up with the speed of development. How can a smaller company with no experience and less resources, produce and develop a similar and arguably better game in a shorter amount of time? There are many examples I could have used, but I feel like DayZ and The Forest represent the extremes of development speed on both the slow and fast side respectively. With all that said, I still check the forums for DayZ pretty much daily for new updates. I have over 300 hours in the game so far, and I am sure I will put another 300 in once the game reaches a stage of development that can sustain my interest.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like a big patch coming. Looking forward to it!

So, character resets are still a thing then.
JBURNS489 replied to Mookie (original)'s topic in General Discussion
When you log off, your character can stay in game for like 30seconds. It's possible to kill someone who has already closed the game because their character is still visible in the server. I think this happens because it was either an attempt at stopping combat logging or it just happens because of how it is coded and hasn't been addressed yet. This could've been what happened to you. I haven't heard of anyone having issues with character resets recently -
A Ssd is a great upgrade no doubt about it, but it will only help gaming performance in a very limited scope. Mostly just loading screens will be shorter. The majority of game's rendering is done with your Cpu and GPU. You may notice a slight fps improvement, especially in open world games like dayz, but it will be barely noticeable. The CPU reads the game's programming and decides to either follow the command itself or send it to the GPU for processing. It will first read aka load the required files on your hard drive, and then process and render the image into the game you see and play. A SSD will load the data required by your grqphics card a lot faster, but it will still only be able to process it at at the same speed as before. To really upgrade gaming performance, your best bet is usually to upgrade your graphics card.

try turning down alpha to coverage first, then AA second. Mess with one at a time and push apply, and see if there is a change. Your CPU and GPU should be able to run the game on high/very high combo though, so a verify of the integrity of game cache wouldn't hurt either.

I was reading some other suggestions, and it struck me as strange that literally the ONLY place to get good military gear is NWAF and Myskyno(sp?) tents. I have read some posts from the Devs explaining that the loot distribution is intentional because they are trying to create a "flow" of players and a sense of character progression. My question is, why does a sandbox mmo where you create your own story, even need a flow? My suggestion is to make the game a true sandbox experience, where players aren't lead to certain areas of the map. Let us develop our own characters. If I run all the way up to NEAF, I should expect similar gear to drop at NWAF. Not just the air bases, but smaller military installations as well. Currently, you would most likely get better gear from a small unnamed village compared to NEAF, or any military installation for that matter on the eastern side of the map. There is literally no military gear on the eastern side, besides player's camps, random heli crashes and maybe a police station. Why do the developers want us to migrate to the northwest? Why not make similar gear spawn in similar locations all across Chenarus? Is it about concentrating player population so it forces more interaction? Or is it just purely for the flow? I have ~300 hours logged of in game time, and I hardly know the Eastern side of the map (besides the coast) at all. There is no point to explore over there, at least for me, because the gear is so bad compared to the Western side.

I have been playing DayZ for 5-6 months, so yes I am new compared to some of you guys for sure. I never played the mod, and only spent 15-20 hours with Arma2. Assuming the game takes off when it does a public 1.0 release, there will be a lot more new players. A "fresher" perspective may be what the game needs. I started playing DayZ because I saw Frankie's videos and thought this game looked awesome, and it is! I am very curious, though, if the east will ever have similar loot to the west. If a barracks spawns military weapons and clothing in the west, a barracks in the east should spawn similar items. Thats how it should be in my opinion anyway. I can't speak for the way it used to be, but my guess is that people no longer really PvP on the eastern side of the map because there isn't much gear compared to the western side. If people used to run to the NEAF and nearby cities, it was probably because there was actually something there. Since I have been playing, NEAF has been empty of loot.

No...my proposal is to distribute military gear (in the appropriate places) across the entire map, instead of it all being amassed in a couple spots. It's true that is about all of the map I currently use though, plus north west air field and everything on the way. Everyone is entitled to their own playstyle, and mine is a tactical military approach. Not my problem if you have an issue with my playstyle, but if you have something constructive to add feel free :)

Thanks for the updates guys. I am looking forward to the new audio and the new animations the most. The only questions I really have is about the audio. Is it only the gunshot sounds themselves changing, or can we expect a major overhaul in the audio department for .61? Will the new audio for .61 have any updated "3D" sound to help with locating sound sources better? (ie zombies moaning as well as gunshots?) Also, will anything be updated or changed with the ambient sounds in .61? See ya around Chernarus!

That usually means your graphics card isnt good enough to play DayZ. You need a dx11 compatible gpu, and im betting you dont have one. Time to upgrade :)

Perma dead haha

I would loke to see megaphones. They could use the batteries that are already in game. It would also be awesome if they get item placement figured out, so you could place a megaphone on the ground in front of a walkie talkie or on the hood of a car, effectively creating a broadcast system.

Honestly i dont think you could even call them zeds if they can shoot a weapon...i agree thqt they are not challenging and not even worth killing though. When they add in a stamina system so you cant just out run them, they will become more of a threat. Also, when zeds start dropping clothes and food they will be worth killing. The only thing zeds need in my opinion is better sounds (including footsteps!), the ability to open doors and have them start dropping loot. I think its a bad idea to give zeds weapons, but +1 for them being inside buildings and able to be knocked out

Agreed on all points...it would be awesome to track someone by their blood trail.

I found a player that claimed to be in a band. He offered to show me a concert

I've been walking around all day singing "The day I died was the best day of my lfe". I saw a pokemon player look at ME weird, as if singing this song was weirder than catching pokemon lol -
I dont think removing the crosshairs would change the game that much either way honestly...most gamers i know (myself included) have a monitor that can overlay an accurate crosshair in game anyway. So even they removed crosshairs, all it would do is give an advantage to players with those types of monitors.
