Spawning with Private Hives as Admins?

Proper admins will just play the game like everyone else, while trying to manage keeping track of cheaters/hackers. If admins spawn vehicles and equipment for themselves or others to gain an advantage, tbh they shouldn't be admins. If you're talking about modifying map spawns, loadouts and the like then that's different and entails the proper server tools to do so.

    Tips for a server

Find a private hive with active admins, this will certainly diminish the worry of hackers. A low pop server would also help from the get go to learn the ropes unfettered from other players. Although, other players are not always a bad thing. Good luck!

Most of these are a joke.

A lot of servers have lost touch with what DayZ is I reckon, making them strictly a pvpfest. I run a private hive but the ruleset is close to vanilla as possible, where the survival element is well intact.

    What is DayZ to you?

DayZ to me is Horror Survival first and foremost. Zombies need to be more of a threat but we'll be seeing that I'm sure. The tension of PvP is good too as long as it isn't looked at as the end all be all of the game. The servers that have 100's of vehicles and all these guns kind of lost what DayZ is. I guess it's good to have the option, just not my play style and don't think it's really what was envisioned for the game.
  5. Vanilla ruleset is pretty much DayZ with little to no modification, so the survival aspect of the game is well intact. Regular Day/Night cycle with full moon nights. The server is set to a static long summer day, so there is plenty of daylight. No Wrecks or Carepackages No Fluff and no Bullshit Server restarted every 4 hours with several warnings. Multiple Anti Hacks enabled with active admins. We are tolerant of all styles of game play and will always maintain a mature and respectable environment for people to enjoy DayZ. Mix of Mercenary and Veteran Settings with Side Channel enabled.
  6. I've had one running for about 3 or 4 days now and like the idea of as close to Vanilla DayZ as possible. It's set-up in the Oceanic region so not sure how your pings would be but anything within 200 - 220 would be ok. Actually trying to get up the server pop atm.
  7. Same here. I've tried a few things and no messages are displayed on the server, no matter what I try.
  8. Rented one of the San Jose servers last night. So far pretty solid and set-up was pretty much instant. Liking the server so far. The only trouble I have is finding info on their forums for editing certain things like automated server messages, spawn rates and other things. I know it involves editing the DB, which is all fine and dandy but some instruction would be cool. I'm a bit new to all this and any direction to info would be helpful. Thanks in advance!
  9. The Arma 2 DayZ Mod is a completely separate entity, although it has been said that it would continue to receive updates but as far as being compatible with the SA... I would have to say no, it would have to be purchased separately and not be able to be played with others playing the Mod. I think I answered that correctly ;)
  10. Well, yes you can remove the turban just increase your humanity and it goes away. And to say I'm angry about being KoS, meh it's part of the game. Just like the consequences for Bandits. I'm sure if I said I've never been KoS you would've had a retort for that as well. I've never said I was against PvP, why are you putting words into my posts that aren't there? I smell troll... Good day sir.
  11. Not exactly sure why the inference I was bitching or complaining... I think my post was about choice & consequence. If the consequence is a skin(a tea towel on your head), then it is what it is. If it's something else that alerts other players that people are a threat so be it. The thing is, is that you choose to have that skin(consequence); at this point in time; by the actions you take. Which you know IS going to happen, so to say that it is forced upon anyone is a mute point. There will be a mechanic in the SA for Bandits/Murders, whether is subtle; as Rocket has called it; or a tea towel on your head. It's just a consequence that you're going to have to deal with. And to answer your question. I've been KoSed many, many times. Not sure what relevance this has on anything.
  12. I look at it as, there's always a choice to be made. The skin isn't forced on anyone; as was said multiple times; you choose to KoS, you choose to murder that player for his beans. The choice is made knowing what the consequence will be... A bandit skin that tells others that you're a potential threat, that you knowingly choose when you KoS. Being a bandit can always be reverted back to normal by choosing not to do what Bandits do. So this whole debate is pretty much nul and void because the choice is yours to make, nobody makes it for you. It's just sounds to me that some just want to run around knowing there's a consequence to their actions, yet get shitty when it actually happens.

I lost all my stuff WTF?!

Unfortunately it happens and we just have to suck it up. I lost a bunch of good stuff due to my favourite private hive patching DayZ to the current version. I wasn't happy but it's just part and parcel of DayZ and you have to learn to accept this, whether it's by death or other means. Was on day 15 with this character as well but, like I said all just part of what can happen. I'm sure the SA will not have quite as many bug issues like this, so we can at least look forward to that.

    Spawn next to friends???

Some seem to not get what DayZ is about and just picture it as another FPS and want it moulded into a BF3 or COD style of play. DayZ isn't about being easy and convenient, it's about the harshness and struggle to get shit done. Dying and having to find your group is part of this struggle and part of DayZ. The best thing for people who have the BF3/COD mentality is to either HTFU or go play those other FPS's. The vision of DayZ has been put out there and I would suggest people watch some of Rocket's interviews to really get an idea where DayZ is going. The game won't be about accessibility and most likely will become a lot tougher than it is. DayZ is a different style of game and I think a lot of us are play it because it's harsh, it's tough and it's not like anything else. This is a good thing!
  15. There's no need for a score board(Debug Monitor) when you have the visual cues to know how much blood you have or skins to know how bad/good you are. These people bitching about the Debug Monitor being removed(working as intended) are just hell bent on keeping score, which is not what DayZ is about. This isn't another FPS, it's a survival game first and foremost and score keeping is just a way to feed the egos of these kinds of players. The icons are not the only visual cues one has to represent what's happening in game, so to say these are the only cues you have is ridiculous. The Debug Monitor is perfectly fine where it is... Non existent.

    Incorrect Version?

I've never really had an issue with using DayZ Commander, so imo it is the better choice. The only trouble I did seem to have, was trouble with connecting due to having Arma II:CO installed via Steam. I would get incorrect versions and other errors connecting but it was solved by ticking both boxes in the Steam Settings of DayZ Commander. DayZ Commander also makes it easy to rollback Arma II as well as DayZ versions to play on servers who aren't up to date. Hope this helps.

Done and am curious on the results.

    Death Of DayZ

Think this was posted in another thread but I don't think the debug monitor(score board) was ever meant to be there in the first place. They just fixed that with the last patch. So now we can say... It's working as intended and have a nice DayZ.

Over the top bandits, like rabid dogs

Although I totally understand your pain, posting something like this; like so many others have; is only going to feed these trolls. This is the reaction they want. This is what they feed off of. Their mentality and idea of fun is to get a rise out of others, not to play the game but to make others miserable. Using the /ignore feature in these forums would be a good thing I reckon.

    Wait for Stand Alone DayZ?

Did a search myself for Arma 2 free on Steam and no such luck. The free version of Arma 2 is Here but I am pretty sure you wouldn't be upgrading with OA through Steam. You could buy Arma II: Combined Operations for $29.99 on Steam, which will give you the ability to play DayZ if you so desire. Doing a quick search it seems that you would be paying around this anyway going the free download with buying the OA addon.

    Wait for Stand Alone DayZ?

It's a personal opinion on whether to purchase Arma 2 and download DayZ mod for it. If you think you would enjoy playing Arma 2 as well as DayZ I would spend the money on it. If not, wait for the DayZ SA, seeing as it's right around the corner this is the option I would personally weigh up. Although, DayZ is an awesome mod for Arma 2 and you would get in some good playtime before the SA hits.
