I thought about it but at 4am, a lot of times I watched the server empty out because it was too dark(pitch black). :huh: 5am seemed like a happy medium, once in a while it will get really dark but most times it's tolerable. What I'm thinking is once we get road flares in, then some night play will be tolerable for most. I like the night time so have no qualms with it but playing on an empty server is no fun either. ;) It is hard having to deal with time resets every time the server restarts, hoping that will end soon. -

There was no mention of bases and to assume, well you know how that goes. Anyway... As far as the OP, you do know they're working on the whole glitching inside of walls thing, right? So that's kind of null and void. You keep saying the only ones that this "sound" mechanic effects are the ghosters(hence my statement on indirectly calling me a ghosting douche), well it does effect others. I as well as others have concerns about it and it does effect us(reasons already given), obviously or I wouldn't be posting about it. The reasons behind us not wanting it is dismissed though and we're told it still doesn't effect us, over and over. This thread basically is just going in circles as someone else has stated and repeating ones self ad nauseam is counter productive. You guys want the sound others do not and some give reasons why they do not want the sound, but it's obviously not good enough. Nor are any other suggestions to rectify the problems without the "login sound" mechanic. Honestly, I think that the mechanic you want won't happen anyway, because they removed it for a reason. I'm done here. -

Who said anything about bases? Although I know Rocket has and somewhat reflects my solution. Whether this ghosting solution encompasses just bases we'll see but they could easily do it for anything. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2742is/once_base_building_is_added_how_will_they_go/ So I guess my logic is almost as good as your reading comprehension, yeah? So I'll take it as this "login sound" mechanic isn't coming back and they WILL be fixing ghosting another way. Joy! -

By indirectly calling me a server hopping/ghosting douche is an obvious troll especially after I stated legitimate concerns, as well as not being one of said asshats. But hey, I'll bite... How bout not being able to logout within a certain x distance to a building, town or city? Simple yet effective, yeah? Problem sorted. I'm sure there are other ways but it just seems that people all for the sound upon login don't want anything else because they're not coming up with anything either. Am I right? -

Well, here's the thing... Any noise still gives a disadvantage to the person logging in no matter where they are(reasons already given). Even though I haven't been killed with or without the sound happening, at least now there is no chance that a random passer by is going to hear me logging in and pop me because they knew someone was nearby. A person logging in is easy pickings within that few seconds of login regardless or what anyone says. Even IF it's just a few metres, that in of itself reduces the area of a search one has to find the person that's logging in, increasing the chance that person will be found and killed. I didn't say anything about realism did I? I said it was a gamey mechanic that could probably be solved in another way, but it seems you just want to inject what you think I said into your response, then make half of it about the thing I never even talked about. Comprehension is the first thing about forum discussion and I use the word "discussion" extremely loosely here in this thread. My answer is still Nay about noises upon login/logoff and it won't change for reasons stated multiple times. Fix ghosting/hopping another way, which I'm sure they will and are working on. Private hives is one answer but there are other solutions out there for the public hives I'm sure. Noises not being one of them. They removed it for a reason and again, I'm glad it's gone. -
If you're smart you'll survive, it's definitely not unplayable. More difficulty please! ;)

So, let me get this right... Even though I as well as others logout in a tree line/forest making sure we're not seen(which we have control over). You want us to now make a noise upon login, alerting players in the vicinity that someone is nearby? From the get go this gives an advantage to the passer by hearing this noise and will instantly start looking for the source. I have a decent connection and still there is a few seconds where your character is a sitting duck loading in, more so with a gamey mechanic such as making a noise when logging in. There is no real safe place in the game to logout but I sure as shit make a conscious effort to find the safest spot I can not to be seen but there's nothing you can do about being heard. This is my issue with any noise. I will say I've never been killed logging in but when the reload sound bug was in, I was always waiting to be killed logging in, it was a shitty bug and I'm glad they removed it. If people want to camp buildings then they should be more aware of their surroundings or clear it and gtfo. I am not saying ghosting or sever hopping isn't a problem but there's got to be another fix rather than making a noise on login. I am definitely not a ghosting, server hopping asshat but do have qualms with this noise upon login due to it giving anyone an advantage over the person logging in. To generalize people that are against the noise as ghosting, server hoppers is an asinine statement. I still say Nay. -

I'm sure dragging an unconscious body will be implemented at some point(it was in the Mod) but as for the gamey "revive a dead player" concept, you won't see something like that. DayZ is and never has been a game of convenience, it's harsh and this is why a lot of us are here playing/supporting the game. -
Fog is definitely a good thing. Atmosphere is the one of the things it's good for as well as cover at short or long range(depending on the thickness). Gotta love the pea soupiness!

To survive should be brutally hard. The environment in itself should kill you if you're not careful. Guns and equipment should be hard to find and looked at as being lucky to even have a pistol let alone ammo for it. -

I honestly think radios are enough with their multiple frequencies and the range on them is limited and really, that's how it should be. Broadcasting to the whole server breaks the immersion for one as well as being a pain to moderate. I'm looking at it from an Admin perspective. I've tried having Side Chat multiple times while running a Mod server and it just doesn't work. As I said, the trolling and absolute stupidity that ensues is above and beyond the hassle of it. If it becomes and option, I will have it off.

Side channel is a pain in the ass to moderate, the trolling and absolute stupidity that goes on in Side gets out of hand all the time no matter what you do. You can try to moderate it but imo it's better left off and out of game. As for Global, that's a different channel than Side and should be left for Admins only.

I think IF a person is impersonating an Admin they should be asked to change their name straight away and if they don't comply then kicked. This is just my opinion though so don't take it as gospel but I believe it disrupts the server in general if people are running around trolling as Admins.

BEC is the best but if not BEC, as long as you have RCon access there are 3rd party messaging proggies out there that will do the job as well. At this time I don't think all GSP's have a BEC option so admins will have to use the next best thing or just be lazy. ;) I have linked it in the past but will do so again for admins that may want to use it. Server Messages 2.0 Have used it myself in the past with the SA due to having no other options for server restart messages or messaging in general.
