    1. The best way to get yourself killed early on is bleeding to death because you ran out of bandages Exactly, Exp testing explained this early on. You need to pickup those extra shirts, and start making rags asap. Do not have any less then 6 rags on you at a time. You will most likely forget and get low on supplies. If i showed you a video I did not take yesterday, you would have laughed at me for being stupid. 1. I shot one infected with a shotgun, 2. I had about 20 + infected chase me down, 3. I had to outrun them bleeding to death, with approx 10 remaining on me full tilt running. and 4. I died. I could not turn, kite or aim fast enough before getting hit. I could not hit the tree line up to lose them inside the trees. It was open field, and i was bleeding badly. I know how to play this game, but there is always that dum stupid move you make and end up unconscious. 2. The bow was increased in damaged, so make some arrows and grab some feathers and start plucking those infected off one by one, it doesn't attract others. Good suggestions beef

    Returning player after 1 year

    I grabbed the materials placed a fireplace on the road, i had hypo too. Went to get bark and died 2 inches from the fireplace. All in a matter of less then 5 minutes. No matches found, just was going to make one, when i died. I was soaked, and fresh spawn on the new server, but it was raining. I couldn't figure out why nobody was on this server. I guess i know why... server hop, asap... and hope you don't get hypothermia.

    Here is my best advise to the OP, grab a stick... grab a stone knife, make a bow and arrow volly, and go practice in .61 Kite, and use the bow. or just shoot them with a shotgun like i did today and have 20+ infected all rush me down for a complete PUNCHOUT! effect..... oh ya i died, couldn't stop them from gang banging me. But i still didn't die in 20 minutes.

    I tried the Long Dark, and i died within 1 day, 23 hours of game play. I froze to death. I still want to git guud, though. I have never died after minutes of dayz game play, unless someone attacks me while being nekkid. Infected might be knocking him out?

    Leaked Server Files & Unofficial Servers

    Well we have no support, neither do they for server hosting of any kind. If players play there and it causes issues with stable or unstable BE may or may not detect those, and they maybe banned incorrectly. If people cant wait for hosting, it means they cant afford it so they try to emulate the server files. Its rather dull to be connecting to a private server like that. We are suppose to report bad servers, but this is the scope that BI has to deal with until the real hosting is available. When there is a will, there is a way. Are they Russian hosted?

    Are you concerned about Steam reviews?

    You and me both, and many others saying the same things. Although the backing has been done, so that's a good thing.. now to move forward i guess. But who would guess BI changed the whole thing on the dayz dev team probably 10 times over. It happens, its hard to justify, but in the end i have good hope that it will still be a fun and popular game. Reviews are just that reviews, most are changed after someone sees the game for 100+ hours gets bored sees a slow progress and complains. Well wtf ever, i too get Crocketty <--- is that a word? But i would rather have Dayz character controller, then Arma 3 controller... if anyone should go back to development it should be arma 3, character controller. Dayz feels much more realistically then arma 3. Still i agree NDA should have been done to the alpha servers, unstable and stable could have been open.

    DayZ Soft Skills Alternative Plan?

    Nothing annoys me more then having to hold shift down, wait then hold shift down, wait, hold shift down to do minor running. Just slow down the run speed, and turning speed some. Otherwise if i have to hold 1 more key down ill cry.

    Why shouldn't it be somewhat up to us? if we don't like it i am sure the devs will not introduce a shitty system. Plus if we don't like it, we will block it on modding one way or another.

    Items That Don't Spawn Anymore

    Hmm i found cross bolts in .61 on exp before. They are deadly when shot too. Crossbows are also available in .61 Brooms also spawn, saw it in .61 i didn't pick it up because i had a HOE =D

    Reason to keep playing?

    Yes very realistic quests-Journey, such as hearing about a crash site full of ammo, guns etc.. or a hidden entrance that survivors made, but abandoned some time ago. To find a lost family member, your journey never ends. To find something quests, rewards =survival. To explore quests, rewards =new survival spots. really only so many rewards anyone gets from survival type games. You stay alive, but the population, and infected will not allow you to survive for long. So right now, you are exploring the world, trying to survive and find out you just scored by looting a tent. Well that will all change once the "Real" Population starts back to dayz, when it is completed. I hope to be able to hunt, build, survive in a wilderness or city enviroment with others trying to take all i have. How long can you last?
  12. If the devs wanted to restrict the numbers of items that spawn, minus what is already looted and stored in tents they can. (private servers) Since the world we know, may only have 10 svd's total does it not sound right to restrict those items for this world? I would say yes, personally but given that this also requires a complete sub coding system to restrict all the items in the server we will end up with nothing but loot farmers per server. Since only 1 svd is normally in use or a couple per server, i would see it only involves storage at this point. With the chances someone will find the tents and loot everything they can. The only problem that needs to be fixed would be the lag bubble, on loot leaving the area to find peoples storage containers. There will be restrictions of cars, trucks etc... that i am aware of. Too many just over populate the server. Restrictions on how much loot by % over 100 items is a better system. with a .000000001% chance an SVD spawns in a house. It would take a person ages to find 10 SVD's. Since the game is only in alpha right now your going to find unrestricted amounts. expect that to be hardcore on release. Now it would be a different protocol when hive jumping with an SVD, would it effect the spawn after 15 minutes reload timers?? It makes the whole system seem wrong then. So it would be best to handle new loot spawning at a much lower % rate then it would be to calculate the total numbers per server? see where i am going with this. Compiled, exile example. You can also make a no loot item, with a higher chance it drops then anything to offset maybe the difference you want.

    Emu is correct, this is not COD, and it is not Arma 3 (best example), Combat skills earned the more i snipe someone should never be given, my aim goes up +1 due to me sniping a guy. The reason why this should never be done, is because it will be Grind to win type game then. I can see maybe a steam award "You can snipe!" but never skill awarded for sniping. Also you have to look at the steam pages, authentic to RL survival. Combat skills are not authentic, but there might be some work around to this, such as making bullets, making items, etc.. skill ups. Learning a trade skill. Combat skills, some can argue well the more i practice my aim will improve, well we already have a fix for this. Dayz devs have been making sway, etc to slow and help us improve. They want what i understand an even playing ground. Dayz devs should not have skill ups for us, on knowing how to use your mouse and keyboard. Its the luck of the draw, as it should be. I really do not want to hash out 5000 infected, so i can be better at using an axe. "You would learn fast, or die" This simply is the same as saying well i am awarded for mashing buttons, and keys behind my computer. Push comes to shove in real life we all learn, and have some basic instinct and common sense. Most of all, we would have 1-2 trainers left in this world if we are lucky to show us everything possible with gun play, survival, etc... so we learn as we go... 0 skills, you learn behind your computer. If you know of tricks you keep those to yourself.

    Repetitive grinding can make people walk away. If i use an axe to chop wood and i get 1 piece to 50 pieces, it will not matter once pounded out the skill, but if i start to lose skill after i have cut down 50 pieces it is another one of those ARK constant running around gotta do this again and again and again to gain 1 skill point. It just is not the way many people enjoy it. Your online 24/7 then keeping skills up. Id rather gamble in that case.... but there is some good things in your post i like OP.

    I completely agree, but was not going to speak on the matter until we got past alpha. anything below 14 days is too low for many players... but i would suggest we allow private hive players to adjust these times. 14-30 days for barrels seems fair enough. 8 days maybe for a backpack stored in a tree?? I usually would up anything to do with arma 3 exile, when it came to virtual garage, base storage, safes, vehicles, etc... because we knew players could not always log into your server, almost all servers would increase the time for when your stuff starts to disappear.

    3PP vs 1PP - I finally have an opinion

    I hope i can tell you why? the speed at which you turn around. For some people i think that is why it bothers you. I found i tend to switch to 3pp because of that when in 1pp. My best guess is this. Camara angles, wall obstructions, fast character movements (Like Gews posted) the head bobbing, the sway, pretty much everything in 1pp finds a way for me to switch to 3pp because i start to develop headache, discomfort in 1pp. I sometimes do feel it in 3pp so i am guessing it is because it is far from being tweaked in 3pp or 1pp.

    @emuthreat Actually, i thought of something just now emu. If in combat, a small symbol pops up with two swords that locks you into battle for 2-5 minutes. So if that person tries to log off they can not. Meaning that if a shot whizzes by you, puts you into combat or using a weapon. This way it might slow down the ability to hit esc, and your character logs off. I dunno just an idea. So you would have to bail out of that area, hide for a few minutes to avoid conflict then your safely out of the harms way to log off.

    Well clearly i expect more combat logging if you lose your skills after death. It is rather soon to even know what skill bases you get. Who would want to lose skills, from a group of people that run by. So i expect the easy way out is to just combat log, and go to another server. Sadly this will happen, to avoid a death +skills you acquired.
