Oculus Rift support for stand alone DayZ

It seems like a perfect match for the ARMA engine. Since track IR is already implemented so well I would think the bulk of the engine coding is already there. Just take the output from the Oculus gyros and convert to whatever format the Track IR uses for pitch/yaw/roll (obviously not THAT easy). The Oculus however won't have a full 6 degrees of freedom like the Track IR, It will be missing the x, y, x translation. Can you imagine a system with Track IR for translation and the HMD for the rest? That would be pretty crazy. And I think the 3D should be secondary to the head tracking if one were to be implemented first. Stereoscopic depth is no where near as important as a wide FOV and low latency head tracking. I think you would be surprised at how 3D a wide FOV HMD looks with the same image sent to each eye. Stereoscopy is very important for things within arms reach, but past that the bulk of what your brain uses to determine depth is already on the screen. Needless to say I'm excited for the oculus rift and really hope DayZ or the ARMA engine in general supports it! If not at least we'll have doom3, hawken, and other id/valve/epic stuff to look forward to.

    Database cleanup [2012-07-03]

In their current state tents do seem to get around the perma-death thing, but I don't think they should just disappear when the owner dies. It's pretty lame when you die you can just run back to your tent and grab your stashed stuff. Maybe the tent could relocate upon owner death so it is still present in the world but not accessible to the newly spawned player? That way if you die you really do lose all your stuff and need to either re-loot or rely in the "charitable" nature of your fellow survivors to rearm you. It would cut down on people taking advantage of one of the MANY perma-death loop holes.

    Zombies still coming through walls

Sad thing is they seemed to work a lot better before 1.7.1
  5. I'll check the lips thing but I've been having the same issue. My bro confirmed over the phone he was not receiving direct comm text or voice. Another time I was also in a group of 3 and I could talk to 1 guy with no problem. The other however didn't hear a thing. Maybe the code that determines proximity is bugged? External chats are nice but you're still always cut off from communication with a few people.

    Can not place a tent

I duped a tent twice like this, Tried to hide it between two trees and turned out I couldn't even access it to pack it back up. Then when I logged in later there were two more tents that I could access. Then the wall walking zombies ate my brains........
  7. The best is when they agro through a wall even though you're 0/0 vis/aud, and knock you unconscious. I've seen them floating and jumping from tall objects only to knock me unconscious without ever giving me a chance to shoot. There is no longer any real way to loot so I guess I will switch to PVP like everyone else. Hostile players are a lot less dangerous than floating zombies. C'mon 1.7.2........
  8. Date/Time: 06-24-12 6:20PM What happened: Direct communication does not work for all players Where you were: Rog What you were doing: Looting *Current installed version: 1.7.1.5 93965 *Server(s) you were on: US20 + others *Your system specs: Q6600 HD4870 Win7 x64 *Timeline of events before/after error: 90% of direct comm text wasn't being transmitted to a fellow player I was on the phone with. Every once in a while one would get through so we were essentially cut off from communication. Voice did not appear to work at all. This happened on multiple servers. Scenario that made me submit the bug: Another player approached and I established us both as friendly through direct comm (seemed to be working between us pretty well). Needless to say the guy I was with did not see ANY of the direct comms and was spooked ending in a murder. Felt bad for the guy and I also felt like a dick for leading him into a trap. If direct comm worked properly there would be A LOT less pvp killing. This is probably an even bigger issue than the botched zombie movement/AI because it is slowly creating a 220km^2 deathmatch arena.
  9. Maybe they're keeping the ammo separate as a real Winchester 1886 doesn't accept shotgun ammo? (usually .45 caliber)

    NY4 / US63

It was up earlier today, but went down again and hasn't been up since. Any idea when it might be back up?

    People! stop being paranoid!

Does anyone know if direct comm actually works? I haven't had any luck with it as far as I can tell. Also, about how far does it extend if it is working? If you just keep your distance from unknown people you will survive much longer. Make sure you are the one that sees them first and not the other way around. I always use direct comm over mic in areas where there might be a person just to see if I get any responses. If I get no response (hopefully its working) and someone spots me I will either shoot or flee depending on what gives me the best chance of surviving. It does seem like a mad sprint in an area with trees/buildings will make you a very hard target to hit. Plus if they are indeed friendly they hopefully won't fire at you while you're running away.

    Hotfix Build 1.7.1.1 Rolling Update

-Tents still don't seem to work, I'm guessing that will get patched soon. -I still can't figure out the exact cause, but when I pick up extra ammo/weapons all ammo seems to drop that is not of the type I just picked up. I've had to backtrack several times because I noticed half my clips missing. -The drop button seems to just delete objects, but you can use the left arrow on the item list to successfully drop items to the ground. -The lack of any light at night is BRUTAL, although I do love how you can draw zombies out of an area buy chucking a flare / chem-light as a distraction. Throwing flares is very difficult as there is a huge delay and you can cue up multiple throws without knowing. Plus there is no indicator as to how far it will go. -Thanks for all the hard work!
