I converted an old gaming PC into a DayZ Server for a private game. In the last 80-ish hours of playing I've crashed 5 ADA vehicles and 4 of those times were when the game paused on the client side for 2-3 seconds while the vehicle kept moving in the server. Result, crashed car. I don't have these lag issues while running or looking at inventory, only while driving. The server PC is a Dell 8700 with 12G Ram (DDR 3), I7 @ 2.67 GHz. DayZ never takes more than 45% of the server PC available memory and usually less than 20% of the CPU. My question is, do any other server owners have this driving-lag issue? Is it my server host? Any ideas? Thanks, CrookedTube

Just a quick update; I just shot my car 😣 I had it parked in the line of fire while I was sniping zeds. I have been saving spare parts but I'll be lugging tires all over the map after I can find a new ride.... [edit] This is why they say two is one and one is none...

Just back from my most recent and year-long break from DayZ. I have 400 hours in DayZ have been playing since 2015, and in my opinion it has gotten so much better since the Devs released the server files and I can finally play… alone. I turned an old gaming PC into a dedicated server with vanilla settings, FPP only, and 4X time acceleration. I do not use any mods or admin commands; no cheating in other words. Finally, I can find most of the weapon systems and car parts, tents, etc. I have a base at the airfield and am slowly building a perimeter of the new fences and use a car to go scavenge for nails and other necessary items. I still manage to die about once every 8-10 play hours and consider the 90-120 minute run back to the base (and loss of gear) as a good time to reflect on my errors and refine my strategy. Everything on my person is lost when I die so I try to offload often and never carry more than I want to lose but, as mentioned, after a while I find myself getting too focused on finding certain items and underestimating the zeds and paying the ultimate price. My long-term goal is to have a healthy routine like Will Smith in I Am Legend. I stockpile some medical supplies even though the infection mechanic is not in use right now; I hope that will get fixed soon. I make it a point to try and kill a few dozen zeds per game day as part of my civic duty, another reason I die every now and then. Duct tape, nails, and mobile lights are like bars of gold. Having a working car is… BALLER. I drive it like it is the last one on earth. No hot-dogging and only one damaging crash so far when I was driving in fog. It took me eight game hours to get it running once I found it and it has taken me four more to fix it since the crash but I got careless when scavenging for motor oil for the rebuilt engine and am currently doing another corpse run from the beach. I guess I’ll never learn... Before I played solo the last few weeks, I had 350 hours on official servers over the past four years. Some of you will no doubt not be able to imagine how I might like solo play. However, I was always the hermit type on official servers. For me, this is THE WAY to play. A couple years ago I was able to get a VSS running on an official server and after days of careful planning I started it up and drove it to a gas station where I was promptly sniped as I was refueling it. I had to take a break for a few weeks after that. As a side note, I also have 1,100 hours in 7 Days to Die and hope that the complexity of DayZ will some day approach 7DTD for food, farming, vehicles. To the Devs, I appreciate your commitment to getting the game nearer an end state. I don’t consider the current build a full release with most of the weapons and health mechanics missing but I can see considerable progress on the stability, connectivity, and graphics issues. Keep it up. To the playas, I still play a bit on official servers and if you see me trying to assemble a camp or a vehicle and bushwack me, I won’t take it personal. That’s why I have my own server. So.... I've done some more research on this and according to the Wiki you stand a 15-20% chance of getting infected wounds from stitching up bleeding with a sewing kit or leather sewing kit. I did this. Pristine bandanges (purified by alcohol) are safer but I had ditched bandages to to save inventory space. Whoops. I've learned that to have a long-term survival I will need to take the medical element to this game, even playing solo, more seriously. As far was what's up with my 2nd incarnation, I realized that using a Makarov for a secondary weapon is dumber than dumb, even if the ammo is laying around everywhere. A sidearm with only 8 shots is just asking for trouble, especially if is in defense to put down a zombie in the middle of a city, which calls more. I have since changed to using both the CR75 and FNX 45 as sidearms (still have an AMK as primary) because they have 15 round clips. Doing another lap of the map and keeping a log on my zombie kill camp, too. When arriving at a new city I hydrate, grab supplies, look for rare loot, and then stand in town center and shoot one round in the air to draw out the hoarde. My record is 7 zombies in one spot after calling them down on me to exact my revenge. I put down 23 today. Not sure how long it will take me to find the 75-round drum for the AKM that I lost but until I do the zombies will pay... CrookedTube

Yep. If I remember correctly the progression was: I noticed I was sickThere was a message saying my wounds itched (in red text)Messages saying I was warmMessage saying my wounds were severely infectedMessage saying I was hot Now I had early on learned to hoarde water and recently made a habit of going out of my way to stop by water wells and fill up to "Hydrated" but at the time I got bit and infected I was down to two and a third canteens of water in my inventory. After the onset of the fever, I was out of water in about 20-25 minutes of game playing and thirsty. One of my lessons learned will be to have a better essential medical supplies and take zombie bites a little more seriously. Before dying, I had begun to think the zombie attacks were almost lame because of how easy it was to recover from them. Last thought: when I got infected I was fighting 3 zombies (I stupidly had my pistol equipped instead of my AKM and ran out of ammo). Maybe it was the number of untreated bites that caused the infection? CrookedTube Eater of Beans

It has been a long while since I actually dreamed about a game when I fell asleep. I just started DayZ two weeks ago and just had my main character die of infected wounds this morning after about 70-80 hours of gameplay. I had been using an AKM with the 75 round drum, scope, suppressor, and a Makarov 70 pistol because the ammo is so plentiful. I had done a loop of the whole map using a few vehicles and a few pairs of shoes and was back on the coast after finding some of the coolest gear: Ballistic helmet, High capacity vest, hunting backpack... My goal when I died was to start combing the shores looking for new players to help out and go on a zombie-killing spree in big cities while looking for the handguard for my AKM. Then.... I got bit like I had been bit a dozen or more times before and after stitching up I saw that I was "sick" and had time to look through three hospitals in Chernokorsky and Novoselky for alcohol tincture. I had previously owned (and thrown away) several bottles of the tincture and seen hundreds of medical items that I eventually chucked on the ground to make room for all the ammo I had been finding for my two weapons. I didn't even know there was a "sick" status because I am so new to the game and so when I fell unconscious from either the advanced state of the infection or the dehydration caused by it, I had to stop and think for a few minutes. My point for all this storytelling is just this: I really liked this game before but now I love it. It is so much more pure than anything that can be had anywhere else. The only thing that even comes close is the early days of Everquest (I am old) when the economy of the game was so hard and strong you could get paid for casting spells. It all pales in comparison to spending 15 minutes trying to get a roaring fire because you got your clothes wet getting water from pond and you are shaking so bad that your AKM scope is jittering all over the zombies you are keeping an eye on out in a nearby field. I suppose if you are reading this you already know why DayZ is awesome, I just wanted to throw my experience out there. To all the DayZ team I'd just say this: Don't compromise on your vision (Hardcore Survival) and keep doing what you're doing. This game ROCKS! CrookedTube Eater of Beans
