True, the incentive system when it comes to eary access games is a real problem. This goes for any software company. You earn 95% of the money with still half a game - investing the same amount of time again for the remaining 5% isn't really viable from a business point of view. But that's not the fault of the software company, but the fault of the customers. Actually a game with lots of DLC content can do better there, since there is still motivation for development. The early access model itself is ... questionable at least. You make good points, thanks

basically I posted a redundasnt post - since I cannot delete it, I just fill the space with these beautiful words of mine.

Obvious solutions is to cut down on content. I don't think this game will be a real survival game ever. Someone is cultivating his weapon fetish and thus the topics are gun sounds, weapon sway, ammo spawns, more guns, more efficient reloading, shooting from vehicles, helicopters and so on .... The major problem that I see is that the game still lacks a real survival content. The only aspect I still expect is an increase in the number of zombies. I have given up on real different char skills, on medical stuff and more, which could give a new impulse to the game. But I have come to take it for what it is. A shooter on a map, which has grown too big.

Weapon sway, weapons sounds, more guns, weapon attachments, random weapon load, damage system ... No, I cannot claim that I am impressed or happy with the priorities the game is setting currently. No new survival content, just some more weapon fetishism. Damage system would be somewhat interesting, if melee weapons were really used, buit with guns as abundant as food .... well. Basically the report doesn't hold any news (renderer is nice, but we know that it's in the works) but the highest amount of community videos ever (I think youtube is sufficient, would not need this as part of the status report). I know some people will disagree with me, but hey, after all the praise in previous posts in this thread, I feel okay adding my beef ;)

[Opinion] The Value of Base Building?
Noctoras replied to [DGN] Johnny's topic in General Discussion
You might want to think about playing grocery simulator 2013. Should feel almost like DayZ and maybe it even saves you the 5 minutes to your gun with matching ammo. Could prove very immersive, I always feel like in a supermarket when in WalMart or Tesco's, too. And yes, it does make much more sense that apparently Chernorussians have guns for breakfast, since the number of weapons is almost equal to the number of food items found in houses. Very immersive ... just as immersive as shoot, kill, die, rinse, repeat ... True. Many kiddies and CoD lovers didn't like it, since the game for once had survival elements. But of the people posting on this forum currently, more people loved it than despised it. And many want the game to be a challenge apart from PvP as well. In this thread alone you find more people advoacting more survival than disliking it. -
Nope, that's a think mostly relevant to PvP. what most people long for is a fight for survival apart from PvP, i.e. a challenge besides other players. 1st person doesnt cut it there, it's not a first step, but a PvP enhancement. I have no problem with making it even 1st person only, but it's not an answer to making the game scarier or more threatening.

Whilst I think there are more reasons for legit criticism (this is the part we discussed in the shooter or survival thread) I agree with you on the subconscious adding of weeks or months. I cannot recall an update coming in time or earlier, when they projected, announced or estimated something. If I was them I would just stop from posting any date estimates. @igor: I hope they have something more to add than just the next weapon, to be honest ;)

Why you shouldnt be excited about 0.60 coming soon
Noctoras replied to hemmo's topic in General Discussion
this really hasn't been cool for almost a decade already. Have nothing to say, post a facepalm ... great achievment, congrats. -
Brilliant case of a major facepalm. Hardly useful infected, no threatening illness, hardly any survival mechanics, little usable items, a pointless melee system, but shitloads of ammo and different guns So what does a game without essential elements need? For sure scopes, sights, holsters .... .. aaaaaaaaaaarg Sorry, I already have calmed down now. But I'd love to see elements relevant to the game first instead of an expansion to the walking arsenals you guys are anyway.
-
True, but ever since early 0.55 my char is packed with food, drink, ammo and weapons in no time and rather feels like in a giant supermarket. This is not survival.
-
Don't really care for more weapons, would love more zeds and more survival content first. That's my beef with this neverending addition of weapons, not the introduction of weapons themselves. The average Chernorussian probably eats a weapon and drinks bullets for survival. (i.e. the addition of yet another bunch of weapon appears pretty pointless, if there are so many useful things one could implement first) I agree with more emphasis on the melee weapon system, though.
-
Errr .... not me and I guess noone else in this thread. It's not about the content which is implemented, but the content the game lacks currently. Which is why I for my part leave the rest unanswered.
-
I guess we will just have to wait, hope and see. It's just the fact that the potential of this game was outstanding. If we had a decent melee fighting system not everyone would need 3 guns all the time. There is also so much potential wasted with the zeds. The illness system also has a lot of potential, which is barely touched, same goes for other survival aspects. I hope your hopes come true and enough of the community stays with the game to make survival mods of this game a success. For the vanilla game I have given up hope. (the announcements of a helicopter and even more guns were things still to copy and paste from arma, yet nothing that makes this game a good survival experience). Thanks for keeping our hopes up, ColdAtrophy!
-
I appreciate that, yet I am afraid that given the already shrinking number of active players, that by the time modding comes in the community might splinter in really small sub groups and the game actually die. And adding 10 new guns will not really bring players back. I am not sure that free modding will mean better times ahead :(
-
I have little hope there. Hicks seems to be a die hard gun nerd and I recall something like "not having a gun is boring" (second hand info). I might be mistaken, but I really wouldn't hold my hopes high when it comes to survival mechanics, items and gameplay content. That said, no hopes leaves a lot of room for a positive surprise :D
-
More zombies, more survival, more FPS. NOT more guns and ammo...
-
Well, yes. It was the only time ever canned food was not sufficient. With 0.55 hotfix, it went back to SuperMarket Simulator Z. Btw. 0.55 was also the last time ever I saw melee fighting in a normal environment. Never seen since, everyone is a walking armory again *yawn*
-
Unfortunately yes. and the new status report gives us - apart from parts of the new renderer .... yet another gun *rolleye* There are more different guns than player slots on a server available. There is no real challenge apart from killing fellow survivors And yet what we get is guns, guns and even more guns. It seems as though the leading devs are not satisfied until each and every Arma gun is copied into standalone. Who needs survival. Survival? Well, if Call of Duty, Doom and BattleField are survival games, DayZ is one as well. Instead of zombies, you see walking ammo departments and find out, that an average person in Chernarus has approximately 1 can of food, 1 can of drink and 7 guns for a living.... I'm pretty much done with hoping for a good survival game. On the positive side, having no hopes can only make for a good surprise. But the most likely result of this game is a waste of potential. I agree, 0.55 was the best until the devs decided that loot was too scarce. For once I was really short on food and I felt really lucky to find some random gun in a car trunk. It was actually the only time ever that anything in DayZ ever felt like a challenge apart from PvP.

My beef is more that it seems more and more it's about "the same weapons" as in Arma DayZ coming in, the same playstyle is desired, other elements like skill system just seem to be crippled because they dare not introduce something that was not in the mod. The mod seems to be more and more like a development prison. Taking the mod as a base and evolve the game from there, yes - great idea. To get more and more into a copycat idea with a new engine? not that great imho.
-
That's one of the most dumb decisions ever taken. DayZ SA should be DayZ evolved, not Arma DayZ copy, but it is why I have pretty much given up on the future of the game.
-
Well, what else is there to do, as long as neither zombies nor illness nor starvation are threats to you? Walking simulator? Chernarus features more guns than cans of food, so what do you expect by design choices as that?
-
What is your honest opinion on the future of DayZ
Noctoras replied to karlkurtz32's topic in General Discussion
pretty bleak. It seems the future work will mostly be around the engine. i.e. apart from a crippled skill system I do not expect a lot. Leaves us with - a non working survival system - an unused medical system - zombies which simply are no threat The game as it stands is a PvP shooter, for which the map sitze is just too big. The survival element as a whole could be abolsihed. It's only taking time and geared players have too much food, drinks and everything anyway. As for realism, the inhabitants of Chernarus probably eat weapons. At leas I tend to find more weapons than food items around Chernarus. Quite frankly, I don't hold my hopes high anymore, the current state of game is too broken. In addition to that, devs seem to be scared to add new elements, instead in many aspects they just copy stuff from DayZ Arma. -
Finding a vehicle in DAYZ is so hard.... (HOW HARD IS IT?}
Noctoras replied to H4ppY C4mp3R's topic in New Player Discussion
Q: How about the limit of vehicles per server? If they are persistent for 45 days and the number per server is limited to a few, then it is pretty much pointless to look for vehicles a day or so after a server wipe, since most vehicles are in remote storages. Well, unless you are willing to search the whole map like a search and rescue team that is. -
I dont like the heli crashsite system and think it's flawed
Noctoras replied to Me1andMe2's topic in General Discussion
It all depends. In the last couple of weeks I reported three servers in total via feedback tracker. Two had normal names (=SK=Stubenkrieger for instance) and these were not even assigned from what I could see. So this reporting seems to have been kind of pointless, I agree. One was called "BattlEye Testserver Don't join". Obviously the name did the job, since the issue was assigned and the server provider notified by B.I. However, a "normal" name should not make a behaviour against rules acceptable. I still would love too see a reporting button in the server list. In order to avoid "hate/revenge reporting", action could be taken once a server has been reported four times for instance.
