It's meant to deter server hoppers from what I understand, i.e. gearning up on 1/2/3 people servers and joining a full one thereafter. Most of the 1/2/3 people servers had been join=kick-servers before, though, so I guess the effect will be limited. if it makes you sleep better ...

So what? I can and will write just what I think. Whether MY SUBJECTIVE impression matches YOUR SUBJECTIVE impression or not. Wasn't aware that a forum is meant to feature a single, streamlined opinion. But I'm learning. Maybe my next post will please your eyes (and maybe not). And yes, you have made yourself clear and yet I do not see your point, since my post is not even featuring any real criticism (okay, I did actually not feel threatened by zeds. Doubt this makes for hardcore negativity). If you wanted to point something out you could sure have found a better post of mine in this regard. So I take it you wanted to vent. You did (and probably derailed the thread a little). All good. Good evening from Europe.

I'd kindly ask you to google "impression", which is by definition subjective (personal view) which is the opposite of objective. It evades my mind how someone can come up with "lack objectivity" then. And English is not even my first language. I'll leave it at that, don't really feel like replying to pointless, personal bickering. If you have a problem with me, that's okay, though. Can't help it. Take care

I will speak for myself here .. from the short impression I got, there were some more, albeit far from a threatening number. They seem to be able to jump now and well, they act somewhat different. Cannot say how really, since I didnt really have time to explore in 5 minutes.
-
Did persistent voice chat work for you, i.e. double click caps lock? for me it didn't, needed to hold it down all the time. That aside, yes, no icon unfortunately.
-
Well, seems they are on only for minutes, I was on DE first, went down after 5 minutes, then UK popped up and went down 2 minutes later. So I reckon it's normal not to see a server -.- Gicing up my place now, need to learn on
-
I was in for 5 minutes. found one player, no desync. Seems the double click on caps lock doesn't work anymore, communication is cumbersome, if I always have to HOLD the button. Else the zeds seem to act a bit differently (only met one), actually saw a zed jump (not climb walls, jump). not sure if that was intended, but it looked interesting. Edit 2nd try: Picked a white male character. Started as a black female....

hehe, fair enough :)

Please NOT, please please please. No 0.61 the next two weeks. I mean the devs managed to take around 6 months so far, why not another two weeks ... then I would be done with my exams. Currently Battlefield1 is limiting pre exam progress already, now give it a DayZ update and problems will be huge. So take your time, all is good :P - egoism rant over - ^^

Good point. It's a question of balancing things. Currently, the system is promoting admin abuse. Of course it should not come to a point where admin abuse is replaced by "I have been killed and will report you now" people. Thus I do see a need for change here and all the same I agree with you, it needs a balanced approach.
-
Well, you could and should ignore single reports. The current system is a joke however. It basically is a system designed to keep people from reporting server abuse. Since YEARS the server list is filled with the join=kick stuff, ironically quite a few servers even state that they disregard server rules by their very server name and yet nothing happens. I once or twice reported a server - basically a pointless exercise since in most cases nothing happens. I do think the treshold for server reporting needs to be a lot lower ... currently it's almost as cumbersome as writing a job application and has similar chances for success. Sure people can report servers for anything, but it's a difference, if a server is reported 5 times or 500 times a month. In the latter case the server should be reviewed. Or if the server name is "join=ban" there is not that much investigation needed.

the hype train stops at teardrops main rail station. Don't get excited yet.

Seems not be be read ion the status report thread. Will the new server browser encompass a "quick report" function, so we can just report a join/kick server after our pleasant stay? I know this might touch business interests, so I don't hold my hopes high, but still ... can't resist asking.
-
Well, yes, but there is other games out there without extensive modding. I'm pretty sure I am done with the game once the modding hype starts, but I will have had my money's worth nonetheless. I don't complain and I KNEW that modding was to come, so I have no right to complain here.
-
I second the other posters, modding might be the doom and gloom for DayZ, creating a fragmented "community". But modding has been advertised from Day One, so no chance it will be taken back now, understandably.

In this context, a question on the server browser: will it include a direct report/abuse button? The current way of reporting a server is not very user friendly and it also seems the number of join=kick servers is not going down. Why is that important for 0.61 in my opinion? With the current state of affairs, I am highly likely to encounter a join=kick/ban server, unless I pick a full server. I would have preferred to tackle the server abuse thing first in some way. With the current system, if I see a 6 player server, I can almost safely assure that this is not a server which is kicking upon joining. If it's 1 or 2, it amost definitely IS join/kick. If the server browser comes with "low/high pop", 75% of low pop will be kick servers. Especially since, trust me, there are A LOT more join=kick servers than those, who announce it. Thus I had hopes for an integrated report button in the server browser ... a high number of complaints then would indicate that something is most likely wrong ... A one off report could be discarded. But at least people would report and finally we might see a more orderly server handling. Regards

The major problem are the "streamers/youtubers". Just as you will not watch someone play civilization, noone will watch you surviving. As interesting as it might be for the player, it's a torture to watch. Thus, fast cut PvP action is what gets the youtube hits. People might go there and see "booooooooh, frag fest in Cherno is highly popular, that's what people want" - ignoring that it took 2 hours of jogging for the fight to happen and that surviving and other game content can be highly immersive and interesting as well. I guess it partially matches the "vocal players" concept, although I might rather say "vocal youtube players". Devs have also been holding sessions with youtubers, which I think is counterproductive to game development as such, especially as it focusses on already established content. Edit: No, as with vehicles, bases alone are more likely to be the basis for some more "pew pew". We would need game elements which - like in real life - honor teamwork. I mean, not everyone of us is a plumber, cook, doctor and electrician at the same time. This obviously not going into the skill tree is a wasted opportunity imho. The rudimentary med system as well, would be so much potential.

KOS has indeed become standard procedure. The fact that hardly any game aspect apart from PvP (please gimme more guns ...) has been developed to a reasonable extent leaves little incentive for anything apart from PVP. Add to that that weapons, food, everything is easy to come by. No need to rob food from anyone ... and last but not least ... to be quite frank, if hostage situations end up with me having little to nothing left and maybe broken legs, a newspawn is easier. I havent had any hostage situation for practically 2 years - if I had one, I would just probably let them kill me, there is nothing to gain by letting me take hostage. More game elements, rarer items, a med system, a specific skill system (not 10% faster, but "i can what you can't"), more necessity for teamwork. That's what the game needs. Unfortunately what is discussed is "why don't we have the Mauser gun in game" .... Regards

Agreed, a well balanced mix would also be fine. Although I can see the number of zeds decreasing again when too many people are around ... imagine a bus with 15 people driving through a tiny 10-house-village, which is suddently populated by 60+ zeds. Personally I'd prefer area spawn to have a bigger impact than player spawn for said reasons, although an additional player spawn could indeed be cool. (my biggest desire would be for zeds to be a credible threat anyway, since one and a half years I have not been killed by a zed unless I wanted it (for a different spawn)). Anyway, let's see what the devs idea of dynamic spawn is, I am also curious.
-
The problem I see with the "spawn trigger" besides the already mentioned meta gaming is, that a big group should have it easier than a lone survivor. I even go as far as saying that it might be an incentive for teamwork, if you see that looting town X alone will make you trouble. With the trigger system, teamwork will be redundant again, since 3 times as many players just mean 3 times as many zeds. It shouldn't be like that. That aside, I'd love to encounter a lone zed out in the woods as well every once in a while. They could be lured out of town by players, deer, noise, whatever. It just doesn't make sense that they strictly adhere to some kind of software city limit. But I guess we're out of 0.61 scope with this topic.
-
Just a though on that, from my POV this only makes sense, if you remove the gamma sliders .... else you will only increase the "gamma advantage".
-
- will decentralised loot economy mean that the chance for high tier equipment (quantity aside) is the same over all mil installations across the map? - are there currently plans on expanding on the medical system? - dynamic spawning of infected: will the general number of infected be raised significantly with 0.61 (or, if not, with later patches)?

What movies/series/game would describe DayZ for you?

I'm not gonna go anywhere and am looking forward to your next chorus ... 29 years of game experience and still whining about different opinions on a game. Well then, I rest my case for now, not going to get into this kiddie flame stuff.

Seems we have different opinions on game development. That's legit, albeit I cannot see what makes it "take shape" and "come along nicely", if you basically only remotely care. But people see things differently. However, coming aloing for me means something different than (I just quote someone from reddit now): And by the way, vehicles will be removed with the new patch as well. Shaping nicely? Well ... matter of perception I'd say. And if they ever want to make it in some sort of timeline, a lot of planned content is just going to go down the drain. And for me, one of the worst parts in this SURVIVAL game is (I am lazy and go quote someone from reddit again) I agree with you on the money though. Timewise I definitely got my money's worth. This doesn't keep me from doubting the direction of and commitment to the game. This game also serves a good purpose: It could stall this unhealthy early access concept, which came about us like a natural disaster. Many of these games show that this model doesn't really offer incentives for companies to keep comitted with huge resources. Understandably. For me, it most likely was my last Early Access game. That said, there is a real good example of dev communication on Reddit for those who missed it (from Eugen) : http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/52lrz3/status_report_13_sept_2016/d7lgbqg Definitely worth reading and whilst I do remain sceptical, I appreciate answers like this.
