DayZ SA feels very chaotic and hostile, until you join a group or clan. If everything feels overwhelming, I highly recommend joining a server's teamspeak, or skype with some other players. When you're part of a team playing together with your own goals and relations, it makes everything a lot clearer and less frustrating.

I think you're saying: "The Cherno from Exile was put into Standalone [no it wasn't], but .60 changed it again." [it changed from .59's Cherno, not from a Cherno in another game's mod] DayZ SA is a base game, not a mod. SA stands for "Stand Alone", because it is a "Stand Alone" game, not a mod. The game is in alpha state, which is one reason for bugs. Another reason for the bugs you're talking about is because .60 is in the experimental branch of servers. If you're playing the .60 version, you are playing an unstable version. The game will not be moddable until it is complete. Exile is a mod for Arma 3. DayZ SA is not a mod. DayZ SA cannot be modded at the moment.

What are you trying to set them for? I've found that several actions can't be assigned to extra mouse buttons, for whatever reason. [etc, you can't set vault to a mouse button]

Declaring Electro as the place for coastal PVP
deadjuice replied to hemmo's topic in General Discussion
You do realize [I'm assuming you're saying this in regards to the stable branch] , that there are dozens of different servers, some already with their own established rules? I can see if you're trying to say "in general, we should do this.". But as you can see from the other replies, yeah, this has been a thing for a long time. Without owning your own server, you can't expect to change anything by just declaring it here. And even if you have your own server, and declare a rule, it doesn't mean anyone will follow it, without admins being there to police it. The best you can do is observe how the community as a whole generally reacts in certain zones. I made a big long list of my personal observations below. These are just how i think of them, and it all could be totally inaccurate. EDIT: (Sigh) I havn't been on the forums since they've switched them over, and honestly have no idea what I'm doing. Did the spoiler come out readable to anyone? How/can you even preview posts anymore? -
Let me save you a headache and tell you where to NOT setup camp
deadjuice replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
Me and my brother set up camps and stock them, so that we can switch between playstyles/types of gear, depending on our mood. If we die during a particular playstyle, we don't have to loot again to get geared up. [Die being friendly: go get the mil gear. Had enough deathmatching: go get the survivor gear.] Also, we really like just... having a camp. It's swell and rewarding after a day of looting to come home to a cozy camp, where we have everything we need. And it gives you something to do, a responsibility: "Hey, we need to get more food/medicine, do we go hunting or looting?" And security: "Hey, we want to go be goofy on the coast, drop the all guns and good stuff, just bring the pistols in case." -
Yeah, but, like so much money... Yes though, somewhere down the line I will, defiantly. Are you trying to give me goddamn nightmares or something? Jeez.
-
Hah, yeah. People have realized how little they have to lose as bambies. Plus, an bambie might be able to snag someone else's decent gear if they get lucky. Bambies are basically some higher functioning form of Infected now.

How I feel about char. wipe + .57 being finally over:
-
Just got over a PVP feud. Going to Kamy in late .57 (I'm guessing it's .57), and trying to be friendly.Sir, SIR. I'm very sorry, but those are contradictions. Kamy has been a relatively popular spot for PVP as of late [in late .57]. Regardless, you've managed to not only commit to, but channel the spirit of "friendly" in an all-compassing aura of sorts. It was awesome how many potential friendly players just showed up out of the blue, initially. Like the fucking Wizard of Oz, all the munchkins just crawl out of the woodwork after the wicked witch gets squashed/leaves. I also love that the decently bilingual German guy, right after the shots fly in, just goes full on German. For some reason I got a good giggle out of that.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
deadjuice replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
I know everyone complained about the zombies spawning a few minutes after you killed them in earlier patches (I never noticed this significantly in previous versions, but that's just me) I kinda hope they bring that level of respawn back. Zombies seem so important now, everyone wants them badly. I believe the idea is that it's a pain in the ass when you killed one, hang around the area for a bit, and another one launches onto you out of seemingly nowhere. They've increased the zombies by about a hundred or more since the last several patches [that's barely significant, considering it went from 1100 to 1240]. But they also allocated their total spawn numbers to more bigger cities. But letting them respawn like they did before might make people a little more happy... or just lead to more complaints. I for one am down for it. It'll be annoying, but so will them being a "viable threat". It'll be just as annoying. -
I might be imagining it, but I swear I remember early on that the devs said that when you get hurt by zombies and get an infection, that if you succumbed to the infection, that you'd have a chance of turning into a zombie. I doubt they'd actually allow you control of your character after that, they'd most likely replace your guy with a generic zombie after you respawned. That was probably just a concept. At worst, you should be able to count on it for a mod. [That's a great thing to look forward to in an alpha: eventual potential mods... Sorry] I didn't play Left for Dead, besides on the console. And I only played the actual Human VS Zombie multiplayer a few times. So maybe that was a thing in the PC version with mods or something. But I remember in Resident Evil: Outbreak, if your character died, they'd come back as a zombie at some point and confront the surviving players in the server. And that was a PS2 game, so the idea is not out of the question. Imagine when zombies are an actual threat, and your geared friend dies at the hands of zombies. And you can't get his gear off him and have to retreat. And then you return a bit later, and you see a zombie version of your friend stumbling around, all the good sweet gear still on him. "If I can just kill my zombie-friend and take his stuff... Jesus, what's wrong with me?"

Farming/making your own food, is technically basic survival. If you want a less technical reason: During one of the patches, (I believe it was early .55), loot of ANY kind was extremely scarce. I died 3 time in a row during the course of several hours, because I couldn't find food. [NOTE: I HAD chose at the time to hover around the coast. I most likely would have been okay if I had decided to head west/north, and that's only if i got lucky on my route.] I went from Kamy to Cherno, and back to Berenzino, and died 3 times on my days adventure. I kept stuffing whatever I could find of value [including seeds, extra water, and fertilizer] in a tent outside Cherno, until I was on my 3rd guy, and had enough to move on. Got up to Berenzino, made a farm [berenzino was almost completely empty], and even shared food with a bambie. The next player screwed me over in a zombie ambush, and took my backpack full of seeds, water, and fertilizer when I died. So I was left to bitterly crunch down on what food I had grown in my little garden. With the loss of fertilizer and water containers, I called it quits at the time. Another session after that, I had to make an emergency farm in Cherno, just to keep my decently geared guy alive. Farming: it's a survival thing. It's very human.

The way you wrote before about the haystack was very vague: Which heli crash? What haystack? There are many haystacks, and many heli crashes. Also, the heli crashes are dynamic, as in, they are supposed to spawn in a different spot each time the server restarts. So someone would have to know every potential location for a heli crash, to even guess at what haystack you might be referring to. I thought the vagueness of the question was funny. "Why don't we use were?" If you're talking about when I said, I chose to use "what he was talking about", instead of "what we were talking about", since he was adressing you directly on a matter we weren't discussion. [Also, that was a mistake on my part: he was referring to your concern that 3rd person might not be an option in the future] Hopefully that clears that up.

DayZ Vehicles (first implementation)
deadjuice replied to eugenharton's topic in News & Announcements
The thread has been hovering near the top and the front of the Announcements and Information section. It's been so for awhile, due to the desire for any new info on vehicles. Yes, there are better places to find that info, but people are going to check this thread out eventually. I have still been checking this thread out myself in my info searches, just in case someone mentions something interesting or new here. Other people are also going to come across this thread and read it, regardless of its age. And I at least wanted to provide a reasonable explanation to that specific question. People are going to notice those commands in the control menu, because it's kind of a mess at the moment, and they'll most likely be confused for the reason for those options if they haven't played Arma 2 or 3, or aren't used to a game in an alpha state, particularly one that has carried many of its assets over from a previous engine. -
My new mon-to-friday 40 hours a week job is a perfect distraction. ...well, actually it really sucks right now, I'm not used to 40 hours a week. And for now, it also leaves me only 2 days of the week where I can really do my typical half-day-playing sessions. But it's going to pay for an actually decent computer, for the first time in my life. And I'm also going to pick up a TrackIR 5. And when you're working 7 to 11 hours a day, going home to bed, and waking up at 4 or 5 to do it again, time really flies!

When they actually add zombies to this game...
deadjuice replied to Jimmy McNulty's topic in General Discussion
I agree with what he's saying here, 90%. [but trust me; While you should expand out west, you really don't want to run into players in the west. It almost always ends badly.] A thousand zombies in one city... I never even considered that. Just the thought of it is amazing. It would be awesome trying to desperately sneak through that, or even as a fully geared team, to deal with that. And yeah, PVP. will ALWAYS be a thing, to a certain extent. It's a natural variable of zombie-apocalyptic-survival. I've noticed this too. The answer is: they are working on them. They tested a lot of things live, and have been internally working on them for quite some time. Right now, they've fixed up the current A.I., and are just figuring how to make the current zombies not eat up server resources. (And according to recent twitter reports, they might have that solved.) Next, comes fixing them up. Polishing them up, and making them an actual threat. NOTE: Around the time .57 came out, they have increased the total amount of zombies in a server by 100+ [wooho, so much]. But, they've also relocated the amount of zombies from less popular areas and smaller towns, to the bigger and more popular cities. In early experimental, they where relatively prominent in major cities at a decent rate [i.e., in a slightly more dangerous state] -
I'm asking because i try to get use to play 1st person, in case 3rd person goes away.Jeezus help me, sorry. I missed that somehow initially. :\ derp

TIL that DayZ runs much smoother on Windows 10.
deadjuice replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I also had a few troubles/performance drops running W10. But on my end, I believe it's the fact that I'm running a crappy Bestbuy-brought laptop [An AMD-APU with 4 gigs ram, from 2 years ago]. It's normally relatively stable (not accounting the problems I have with DayZ, from trying to keep it at a generally/maximum of 30 FPS on .57, and having to deal with the computer pooping itself after extended use of running dayZ). Also, I haven't updated it since I started on W10, as I've just got a new job, and have only been using the computer mostly for forums like this in my off-time, and putting on audiobooks at night to help me get to sleep. I heard W10 is supposed to automatically update itself, but I can't attest to this, as this is the first time in several days I've actually been on for a prolonged period. -
One one hand: "Use the search bar! These threads exist already!" On the other hand: "Jeez, why is anyone reviving an old thread." Maybe I'm mistaking your point. But it makes me think of:

Hey, I might be wrong. They are still working on CLE, and when .58 hits, it might be a whole new ball field.

From my one experience playing with a group/clan on teamspeak, and playing with my older brother [we have fun looting and getting fully geared, and then go look for fun/trouble/interaction], there is a lot of times where zombies are avoided by players. Mostly high geared players, which is a good thing. [make note] e.g. If a zombie is in the path or way of a valuable location or goal, most people will take out the zombies before moving on. There is a context where zombies are ignored. Say, they are in the open in a courtyard no one wants to cross in the first place, or out in an open field offside a town or any hotspots. Geared and general players alike, not looking for trouble, or willing to compromise themselves, will avoid unnecessary zombie attention. (e.g. You're in Cherno, looting an apartment building. You suddenly see a group of geareds moving onto your position. You run out the back door, into the empty field/court behind the apartments, and go into zombie mode.) it's not reliable, but faking as a zombie shouldn't be anyway. It's possible in Standalone, or at least in previous versions, and can lead to interesting results/level of reliability.

DayZ really needs more "trash" loot
deadjuice replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
in SA, you can rip out a page of a book and use it for kindling, you can use it to make a fireplace (according to the DayZ wiki, I never tested it myself), and you can read them, or at least at one point you could. ...sorry, I'm a bookworm, and needed to mention that. I like the idea of finding unusable loot, in a sense. But I don't think it's the best idea, at least for the time being. I kinda liked it when food could spoil and stuff. But considering the stage DayZ SA is going through, the less trouble with the basic necessity things, the better. The whole idea of playing DayZ SA at this point, is to test it and give the devs feedback. Like a lot of people, I so do want more hardcore survival element. But considering the game is still in alpha, and a lot of things are bugged out need to be worked on constantly, maybe it's not the best time for the faux-testers to be distracted with very hardcore elements. -
That the previously sweet down-to-earth country livin' and very much alive folks of Chenarus, apparently cut their maps into 8 or so pieces. Just enough map for everyone to know what factory father rides his bike to in the morning for work, and for mother to remember where in Berenizo her sister lives, and the local grocery stores.(Obviously, you can just have a decent map up in the Steam overlay, that works relatively well. But the formally mentioned part still bugs me) On .58 experimental. There hung that persistence I have yearned for, I know not how oft.(I'm tired of .57 PVP-general leaning and guard house mil. loot explosions. I have played .57 a ton, and DayZ is #1 in my games-I'm-playing-right-now cycle, and has been since I brought it. But I'm having that rare moment where I barely play right now, because I'm waiting for the next patch.) Meeting another player after a while of seeing no one, and having that typical awkward interaction: "Hey buddy." "Hey man." "So what are you up to/do you need food?" "Nothing much/No thanks I'm good." "Okay, later, good luck."(It's partially my own fault. Say, if I myself offer no interesting interaction or options for socializing myself, then I'm guilty of not contributing to the interest or the experience of another player. But half of the time, friendly survival interaction is very typical and uninteresting. Part of it is a general mistrust issue. And as well it should be. I've lost track of how many times I've routinely asked another player I've run across inane questions about so-and-so town, where are bandits, hey nice gun/hat/blah, just to keep the interaction from being less awkward and more open.) While I love the emergent nature and chaos of DayZ that you can run across the other half of the time, I feel that there are not enough defined goals for players at the moment. You HAVE to make your own fun, or have your own motivation.(On my part, once persistence returns, I have many ideas brewing for how to have fun and give other players a different experience.) Those really really douche players that sound like they have serious issues.Trash talking and banditry is fine. (I'd just prefer that some players that hold me up or get into a fight with me, to not be constantly spewing bile and rage at me. It's a game, and I don't even know you. Chill, bro. And no, you're really not intimidating me by being very angry and using a lot of curse words and slurs. Get help.)
-
That probably won't happen, because too many people complained during .58 experimental about a shortage of canned food loot. The developers said they'll look into making food less scarce with CLE going forward. But, it should be an interesting option, if you're in the middle of nowhere, near small towns with little loot, and/or are having trouble hunting. Even if you hate growing food, it still might be necessary for a nomad type in the middle of nowhere, or near towns that will constantly be looted. Even around towns to the west. There are a lot of towns that are great places to set up camp near, because people will most likely pass through them and move on quickly toward the airfields. I've personally found a particular town where I could potentially live in a off-to-the-side house, using the stove to cook and for warmth, and the rooms to store stuff in. And I think it's particular location will mean that most ardently aggressive player will move on before finding me, but the more casual friendly player may randomly come upon my humble abode. The only downside is that I wont be able to offer them coffee or tea. But maybe I can share tokes of cannabis with them or something, depends on how that works out.
