Why does this happen every single time?

I recommend getting on a particular server's teamspeak, and getting to know the members. 1. It cuts down on a LOT of KoS or bad firefights, when you know some of the people on the server and can communicate with them. 2. You'll have a lot more to do. Whether it's backing up someone on the TS in a potential firefight, getting into a clan/base war, getting up to random spur-of-the-moment activities with TS friends. All those items you collect and just lose eventually to bandits, are a lot more valuable now and serve a purpose, because you can share them with your group on TS. I had a ton of fun on a server with teamspeak, but my own playstyle has changed as of late. I, personally, love to just run around solo, loot up, have the most optimal gear or loadout, and then go lose it to something stupid like taking on a group of bandits, far outnumbered and out-armed. Or to be a bandit and ambush a superior number of players in dangerous cities like Cherno. I have no fucks to give. My death means only that I get to start fresh and create a whole new loadout style. Lately, I started leaning toward a more relaxed style of "survival simulation". Heading out into the wilderness, hunting animals for food, and clearing out whole towns full of zombies before disappearing into the wilderness like a hermit. It's great to on occasion watch a group of players from the woods as they run through a town looting up, and just remember the good old days. (It's also a little creepy when I put it like that, eugh) -
I brought it so I had something else to ignorantly whine and bitch about. In seriousness. I saw a video on the original mod, and thought it was such a fascinating idea for a game. I saved up money, got a computer to run it (I actually messed up picking a proper computer, and had to do a lot of optimization on the computer and the games to get steady 30/40fps and no lag). I forget which game I got first, mod or not. Either way, I fell in love with SA, even in .38 when it was absolutely bare bones (anyone who thinks .50/+ is boring and has nothing to do or lacks features has no fucking idea). The mod ran like shit on my PC even though it was older. And I hated the menu/inventory system so damn much. I'd rather play SA .38 than the mod. I wound up just using Arma 2 to play Wasteland.

I really dislike when people reference reality, "Yeah, but in reality..." That's thinking in the wrong direction. I don't think for the most part, people know what they're talking about when they reference reality. That is too strong of a comparison for a video game, no matter how realistic of a simulator it is. And is easily abused by people trying to make a point, most likely just to justify something they want. This rifle is so many pounds. It needs to be cocked after every shot. It take these two types of ammo. The default barrel/mechanisms make it fire slightly up and to the right. Ok. But, then you say: "Well, the real version of this rifle can have these scopes, can take another type of ammo, can blow a hole through your neck from 100m." Well, now that we're referencing reality to make your point, how about the rest: It's known to get dirt inside it very easily. The pins holding the barrel disintegrates after extended use, and needs to be changed. This weapon was only manufactured in small amounts, was discontinued years ago, was banned from Russia due to politics, and didn't sell well in the black market. Any sense of true reality is a design and player nightmare. it's a game where you need a clean cloth of proper thickness and of proper length, you'd need to spin it around your arm/leg/foot/shoulder/head manually. You'd have to tie it and hope it doesn't fall off. it's a game where some pumps in town have fresh water, some have muddy water, and some have no water. It's a game where you go unconscious from pain trying to put a splint on yourself, and then when you get it on, you can't go nowhere without crawling/hobbling around, and possibly causing more pain. And you have to keep it clean, or you'll get gangrene. And the leg doesn't return to normal for a year or more. It's the bendy arm from Trespasser. Inspired by reality, based in reality, all yes. But when they're making the game, they should be concentrating on immersion and simulation, how real world elements are playable in the game. Not on exactly how the real world works. Before you make a comparison to reality, please think of the game from a designer's/player's point of view. Looking up real world application on google is easy. Having it in the game as a useful usable element that adds to the experience, is balanced, and doesn't unnecessary bog down players, and works properly, is the hard part.

This is very true. e.g. the A.C.E. mod for ArmA 2. I agree. I mean balance in the sense that most of the bullets in the game would kill someone in one hit, if treated "realistically". Someone with a Repeater or a pistol needs to have at least a small chance verse someone with an AK in a battle. If the AK worked on real world logic, one bullet would tear someone's flesh open.

I was surprised to see so many people listening to techno while playing. But actually, that might be genius. Since techno uses a lot of unnatural computer created beats and sounds, you should be able to tell when you hear a more natural sound in the game, like footsteps, doors opening, gunshots, growls, etc. -
I just tried it, and it's surprisingly detailed. I like it. A female Russian named Julia. Was formally a shopkeeper. Is decked in military gear and uses a shotgun, and has a brawn approach to strategy, but is scared of combat. She's wary to trust people, but is loyal. She is also cowardly, paranoid, and addicted to painkillers. What does color reference? Their favorite color, or the color their gear should be? I thought it was an indicator of race/the character type color you'd use, initially.

I was reading the details, missed the part where you linked to the executable version. Lol I feel you on that. Someday you just can't come with anything compelling, other days, you can't decide on what to stick with. You don't have to let it be creative for you. You can use it as a base or inspiration for a personality.

I like the idea of a simple indicator, personally. But it wouldn't feel very DayZ-ish. As SA is in an alpha state, it might be helpful for feedback and knowledge. (A melee weapon [.i.e the guy with the fireaxe in the middle of the heated gunfight owned you]. You bled out [didn't bandage fast enough]. The zombie did it. A mosen did it [as you entered town. Stay away from that town or be more careful]) But in general, it wouldn't be very immersive. And also, like a lot of people basically mentioned, is unnecessary detail (I believe when it comes to DayZ, that unnecessary detail is a design sin). Having the screen suddenly turn black as the death message slowly forms can be shocking, confusing, or frustrating, but is also very much DayZ. (as in, eliciting a feeling or experience, rather than telling you something that you already known when you've played enough)
-
I don't like the idea. It's unnecessary information. You only need to worry about 3 things when it comes to tending your wounds: Am I bleeding out? Have I lost a lot of blood? Is anything broken? As for telling where the shot came from and what it hit, a much simpler more immersive system would be just putting a small splatter of low-res blood on the character where they were hit. You can put it right on the model itself, and if you're in first person, you just go into your inv and look at your guy. But either idea is unnecessary anyway. A shot from your far right up in the trees 120m away, can hit your left side of your stomach or your right. Getting shot in the leg might tell you that the bone is in danger, but so will the painful moaning, or the fact that you can't get up.

Maybe someone should post the names of the good loot servers. I have a geared guy on my favorite server, r/Underground (first person), and loot doesn't spawn well on it. He's just managing to survive because he has/had a shit ton of ammo and some luck blitzkrieging north. But I'm running out of bullets, and can't even find a pot to cook meat in. My 3rd person guy, (Welcome to The Jungle typically), is pretty fucked. Loot doesn't spawn well their either. I've already starved to death twice, once on that server, and once on another. I'm going to try Fragnest/net(?), It's the only private shard one I remember.

I'm too scared to play music. Sometimes when I have a half hour hike through the middle of nowhere, I pop on a GFW, Penny arcade, or Joe Rogan podcast, but even that gets me paranoid. I'll be stopping in the middle of the woods and spinning around wild eyed because someone shifted a chair on the podcast. I just can't do it. I usually just sing to myself. And I have a habit, every time I I reach the crest a grassy hill near the coast, I double tap caps-lock and do my best impersonation of "The Hills Are Alive" from The Sound of Music to no one in particular. (I'm waiting for that day I crest the hill, crooning like an shitty opera singer, and meet several geared up bandits that are unimpressed with the reference) The first time I found a truck, I gleefully rolled past Balota and through Electro blaring DMX's "Where the Hood At." -
I'm interested in this, but I'm no coder. I'm going to bookmark this for when it becomes something my caveman fingers can just poke the shiny buttons on for results. Also, imho, I don't know if "Nationality" should be a part of the list. This might ruin personalities when you're trying to emulate a particular accent. It's optional, but I think it's unnecessary.
