If you got the link for an image (It can either be a Steam screenshot, or a url from some image site), you can click one of the buttons above your post as you're editing it. There is a small picture right below the A+color square symbol, and the smiley face. It looks like a small thumbnail picture of a tree. Click an empty space below a sentence or paragraph, and then click that, and then enter the url in it to make a picture that will show up right on the post. OR: Left click and drag and highlight some words appropriate to the picture you wanna show. (e.g. "My screenshots"), and then click on the little chain symbol with the green circle, and then add the url to the box that shows up. That will make a HOTlink to the picture. It is a is a really good thing to do if the picture is high resolution, and it will show up all obnoxiously huge and shit on a post.

I've noticed several people, (or maybe just you in another thread) mention Aeon Grow-whatever. That's kind of interesting, but also, not really appropriate in a apocalyptic environment. I'm half convinced you're on about some new genuinely interesting technology (though one that really doesn't apply to a game like DayZ), and half convinced you're some advertisement mole trying to spread awareness of a product over the DayZ forums.

Also: every single thing this guy says. Except for the last part: If you run into genuinely friendly or reasonable people, constantly moving around will just scare them, and make them think you're going to attack or something. I'd advise moving as socially appropriate (in DayZ) as possible: Move to the let when you say one thing, move to the right ONLY AFTER the next sentence. And NEVER move toward them, unless you KNOW they trust you 100% to do so.

It's hard to say, because DayZ isn't just any FPS or 3rd person shooter with survival elements: it's also partially a simulation game. It is not pick-up-and-play, like Battlefield and Call Of Duty. I believe your high level RPG play will help you with making quick decisions and such. But for someone new to the genre, I predict it will take you from 50 to 100 hours to get the solid basics down. I myself have a wide range of gaming experience, mostly in 3rd person and FPSs, and it took me about that amount of hours to stop sucking and start getting it down and being reasonably decent in PVP. But again, it's hard to say what would help you, or to give any tips, because DayZ has a lot of emergence elements. In everything from friendly interactions to firefights, the "meta" of the game changes constantly. If you want to practice your PVP, or have a come-what-may attitude, then go to a public server: Public servers allow you to carry a toon from one to another. This allows people to server-hop, and obtain the best gear in the shortest amount of time. This adds several rather obvious elements: 1. People can quickly have good gear, and won't be too afraid to lose it, thus resulting in them being more aggressive and PvP oriented. 2. They will constantly meet with like-minded people following the same paradigm, and thus be much more ready for combat. e.g. people that server hop will kill other server hoppers they run across. And even players that hang on that particular server will kill people if they think they are server hoppers. 3. Anyone being able to jump with their Public toon to any server, makes public servers both wonderfully unpredictable, and horrifically chaotic. My best advice, to someone who is brand new, is to play mostly on private servers. People in private servers are slightly more likely to be friendly, because they have a bit more to lose from dying, or are comfortable with the general players and attitude that inhabits that particular server. And when persistence returns in .58, people on private servers (who can't server-jump or ghost), will generally be slightly less aggressive, and more leaning toward actual survival in attitude.

What do you think of this situation
deadjuice replied to TheHeadlessHobo's topic in General Discussion
It wasn't so for the longest time. But it's become more prevalent now, sadly. And in .57, while I have had some great friendly experiences on certain servers, and nice mutual firefights, there are also a ton of douches out and about as well. -Long story short: Players are rather unpredictable in .57- - Long story short: I ran into serious douchebags in .57, and got very lucky- -
I sort of agree: But until grown food does anything better than the cans of food you can find lying on the floor in a house, and until servers restarts happen less sooner*, and allow crops to carry over**, the only reason anyone is growing anything is for the fact that they can have a decent food source in a reasonable*** amount of time. * in experimental now, some servers have 12 hour times until resets. ** Last time we had persistence, I believe crops disappeared when resets happened. I might be wrong, but when i last grew a crop, early .55, it disappeared on me during a restart. *** It takes about 20 minutes, more or less, for crops to grow. And as of now, they don't give you much energy or hydration. You'll need a dozen units of a typical low grade grown food to get you anywhere stat wise. Which I personally think is fine, considering you can just keep growing them over and over.

[Devs] I Feel Really Jipped
deadjuice replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I've ran past that building, and thought to explore and see if you could go into it now, and just thought, "Well you probably can't. And even if you can, you probably can't even get into the top part." Pessimism ftw. Kept me from wasting 15 seconds of my life. Hey, devs: I don't care if I can't shoot from it. But I'd like to at least be able to synchronize a tow- I mean get a good look around over a town from it. -
I wish the helmet didn't have that little thing sticking out of the top. Stylish, but I personally don't like it. They'll make new helmets anyway.

Yeah. No one liked that haystack, it was an asshole. Maybe that was a spelling/grammar mistake, or a language thing, but that part gave me a chuckle. To be serious, maybe it has something to do with your aspect ratio? Make a screenshot with Steam, upload it, and then link the url to the picture. What did that have to do with what he was talking about?

Hah! I noticed that too! I kind of like the effect, smoke subtly billowing from your guy, like a sign that you're some unearthly creature. But it brings up several questions: If you try to put a lit fireplace in your backpack or clothing, you'll catch on fire. So, why doesn't that happen when you put a torch in your inventory? And if it's in your backpack and you can see the smoke coming out, then does that mean that items are literally in your actual backpack? As in, on your in-game character? That might make some sense. Wobo, the YouTube guy who does tests in DayZ to figure out stuff like penetration and temperature, and is the one who discovered spine damage before the developer removed it recently, discovered that items in your backpack that are on the higher slots get damaged first, before the items in the lower slots. I always thought it was a calculation thingy when it came to that, but are items actually "physically" stored, and maybe have an actual live presence in the game environment, instead of just disappearing? I dunno, I'm don't actually know how technical aspects like that work. It might explain how duping works right now. [i'm not going to explain the simple basic duping method I learned to anyone that isn't already aware of it because I don't want to encourage or enable someone. I don't dupe, and it actually goes against one of the parts I like most about DayZ: Scavenging and finding my OWN loot. (the harder it is to find, the more satisfied I feel actually finding something) Some random player late last month showed me how to dupe with a bloodbag. But, I refuse to start duping myself]

Anyone else excited for persistence and barrels?
deadjuice replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
Yes, I cannot wait. I had just gotten my older brother into the game late .55. So he never got to try the game with persistence and camping. When .58 had persistence back in, I jumped on and made a camp, and I was so happy. -Long story short, me and my brother tried out experimental, and were very happy with how persistence was working.- We are getting tired of .57. He's learned the ropes, we've gotten into plenty of firefights, and even managed several friendly interactions in the current state. .58, as long as persistence works as well as it was in exp, will allow us to kick back a bit with backup loot, play some actual survival [hunting, exploring], and open up our gameplay options by allowing us to store different gear for whatever playstyle we're looking for that day. We cannot wait until .58 comes to stable. -
It seems wrong for me to leave it at that. This is an interesting idea, and I've always wanted to try it out. But considering the above, I never bothered. But, I can see in future versions; where zombie animation is smoothed out, and players might have factors like scared/dirty/bruised faces, and if a limp animation for hurt legs is ever implanted. Get yourself a torn up shirt, wobble around and slowly as possible, and only groan when player are too far to pick up the actual quality of the mic. And like in Shaun of the Dead, or Dying Light, if there was some method to fool zombies into thinking you where one of them. ect., an interaction option with animal/human/zombie guts to rub yourself in them and fool them at medium range. and maybe it can give you a temporary zombie-ish overlay skin.
-
I thought about trying to do that, but there are several reasons it won't work, at least for now: 1. From medium to close range, it's pretty easy to see the decayed faces and skin of zombies. 2. Player animation is much much smoother and faster than zombies. You can tell a zombie from a human just by how they move, even at long ranges. [The only way you miiight be able to get away with it, is if you stand completely still when someone is looking at you from far away without a scope. I've noticed it can be kind of hard to distinguish players from zombies at extreme range, until they move.] 3. No matter how good of a voice actor you are, if you tried to zombie growl on the mic, the difference between in game sounds and a player's VOIP is obvious.

TIL that DayZ runs much smoother on Windows 10.
deadjuice replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I wasn't 100% sure when I started writing that, but a quick google check confirmed it. Where do you see that at? I'd like to check it out myself. Nevermind, just figured out what that is all about. Basically, there is placeholder stuff there, but they've yet to release the actual drivers, etc. -
My brother had this happen to a gun held in his hand when a server restarted. He freaked out for a minute, and then logged out and back in, and the gun returned to his hand. I believe it has something to do with the game getting confused with your empty back slot and items that are in your hand. It could also be related to that weird bug me and him constantly run across, where he will pick up a gun and run down the block. I'll see the gun right where he left it, and I can eject the bullets, or even take it myself right out of his hands no matter how far away he is. Actually, I wonder if anyone else runs into that glitch. If not, I may have to file a feedback report now. :\ -Edited for bad spelling-

deadjuice replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I don't believe Windows 10 is what is giving you better performance. I'd bet all by beans that the better performance on the fact that you reformatted your drive BEFORE upgrading. [Though like someone mentioned, maybe it handles resources better. Also, having reinstalled drivers could have helped too] I upgraded to 10 from 8.1 without reformatting everything (I was impatient to try it out), and there was no notable difference playing DayZ on 10. Also, DX12 isn't even out yet. [And again, like someone mentioned, it most likely wont help DayZ, because DayZ will be running on DX11 next before 12.] -

Not everyone on TS or Skype is setting you up or otherwise nefarious, but you very much DO have to take what OldManRiver is saying and apply it anyway. If you notices some acting like this, immediately put your trust level to 0%, until you can ascertain his true intentions. Or, just get out of there, especially if you have something to lose. -
Lmao I'm looking forward to a dirtbike also. :D

One of my main draws in DayZ is the loot. Just being able to loot almost every building on a huge map. it's incredibly addicting for me. i will spend hours going from town to town, looting the shit out of things [leaving behind things I don't need: I'm not a complete ass]. I get bored of PVP, of survival, of player interaction. But I never get bored looting stuff. So, I see a lot of items. The only loot i don't see are high end military gear like M4s and AUGS, because I tend to stay away from military installations, and just hit towns no one thinks to.

deadjuice replied to TheHeadlessHobo's topic in General Discussion
I think you did the right thing, considering the situation. DayZ takes a fuck ton of patience and hope, if you expect it to be an experience where everyone is friendly and looks out for each other, as opposed to the typical scenario of people trying to survive and taking what opportunity they can get. The bad part, is that it takes a lot of practice and negative experience to learn how to deal with situations. The good part, is that you will eventually figure it out, and that the world is as dangerous as it realistically should be. Your experience will mean so SO much more in a game like this, than with most other games. -
It's the apocalypse. Shit happens. It sucks. But we're alive. Love, or let live. Or kill, or be killed. We are all alone at worst, or we are all kings for a second.

Are you playing PC games while riding down the shoulder of the highway? Seriously I'm just amazed at how you managed to fit that all on a moped. Regarding DayZ: I'm holding out for a dirtbike. EDIT: If you don't mind me asking, why aren't you allowed to ride a car?
