A lot of us are just lurking about, waiting for .61 to drop, and playing other games. The current drop in player population is essentially indicative of nothing. Patch .60 was a huge milestone and of the utmost importance but it didn't bring much in the way of playable content so we just got bored quickly. There's still a lot to look forward to and many of the incoming updates will bring changes that should keep many of us engaged further into the patch cycles. I kinda think .61 will be one of those patches for me. I played 0.55, the last zombie-centric patch, until the day 0.56/0.57 hit Experimental.

Yeah and DICE LA too. AND it took that studio two years and what basically amounts to the creation of an experimental branch to fix the hastily slapped together mess that was BF4 at launch (sorry Stockholm, we know you tried and were under extreme pressure to get started on that Star Wars abortion). OP - I say, let them take 5 more years if need be. Let them do it right and STFU. People who bitch and moan are the reason we get yearly installments of garbage. I probably deserve a time out for that comment but I'm not changing it.

WAIT.....WHAT? I know Seven was sometimes a bit too critical, but he got banned? EDIT: He doesn't look banned.... https://forums.dayz.com/profile/65301-s3v3n/

I'm surprised you are surprised. Every day I wake up and think my opinion of humanity couldn't possibly get any worse and every day I'm proven horribly wrong.

For the record, I'm not joining the alpha sux, give refund now crowd. I'm just saying he was likely right that we aren't getting 1.0 in 2016. The people complaining about how broken this alpha is are still incomprehensibly stupid.

It's not about your stuff. I thought that at first too. But then I realized that most people get nothing usable out of killing others. It's just that the masses have been conditioned to think that's what you do when you see a man sized target - shoot it. All we've been playing for over a decade now are shooters and the risks associated with trusting someone else over the internet are well documented. They don't want your stuff really as proven by the piles of ruined gear most players leave in their wake. They just want you dead. You represent an unknown potential danger and the easiest way to deal with that is to murder you. Doing anything other than that takes courage and intelligence. If you want to join them, enjoy your buggy, ultra laggy Cawadoody (Now with 1000x more frustration and exploitation involved because we're masochists!). If you want to talk to them, give them no way of escaping while you hold the better position, point a gun at center mass, and be prepared for a 50/50 chance they're going to fuck you the first time you let your guard down assuming they don't start shooting when you initially corner them just out of spite. If you want to survive, learn to detect others first, avoid them unless you need to make contact for some reason (no idea why that would ever be needed since nothing is scarce and there are no environmental threats), and never ever bring a fire extinguisher to a boxing match. Bad things happen to good people when you bring a fire extinguisher to a boxing match. And now for the most important piece of advice that no one ever gives to new people: when you start to get frustrated (and you will eventually, the new game smell wears off after awhile), go play something else for however long it takes for you to come back and enjoy what's changed. A lot of people keep playing it even when the same bugs they are already pissed off about haven't yet been addressed to the point that they drive themselves into an internal frenzy that they need to vent and that's how we get forum user meltdowns, the graveyard, bans, and the entirety of the DayZ Reddit page.

In the garbage with busted sights.

Yeah......It's not looking great and I've said so myself recently in another thread. Things were looking relatively on track right up until it took nearly seven months to release 0.60. So I will concede that, in all likelihood, you were right.

At this point, it doesn't look like we will even hit beta this year. Beta was supposed to be in January 2016 according to the roadmap. They are a full 7 months behind on that timeline and we still don't have rotor and fixed wing aircraft, base building, proper infected spawning, hostile animals, the new player controller, the new animation system, the new audio engine, full crafting system implementation, electrical systems, barricading, mod tools/Steam Workshop support, server files and tools, and so much more. Not to mention the fact that almost every system already implemented is only there to demonstrate that the underlying tech works. They still have tons of content to add to flesh out those systems. I'd be shocked if DayZ hit 1.0 by the end of 2018. I mean it. Absolutely shocked.

They are working on all of this and have been pretty vocal about it for the last year or so. https://trello.com/c/ini3cYgj/81-injured-poses https://trello.com/c/q2z8kG6X/77-new-gestures-wip Those are some examples from the DayZ Trello board. Also, here's a link to Viktor Kostik's Twitter page. https://twitter.com/24victorkane He's the animation guy at BI. If you scroll through the page, you will find a ton of previewed DayZ animations that are new and WIP. All that said, it's asinine how much digging you have to do to stay up to date on DayZ dev information.

You could have looted the second guy's body through the back of the quonset hut. -
I don't think he caught that.

I'm not sure what you mean but what Hicks said was that the goal was to have it so that you could simply press play on the main menu and the game would automatically find the highest population and lowest ping server available to put you into. EDIT: For clarification, this would not replace the server browser if I understand correctly. I think he was saying that it would be one way to get into the game.

Oh crap. I forgot to mention here. The two times I reproduced this the weapon in question was not an M4. The first time it was an AK-74 and the second time it was an AKM.

What Should I Upgrade to Get Rid of Stuttering/Lag and Add Graphics
ColdAtrophy replied to gosephness's topic in Suggestions
I second the recommendation for an Intel CPU. I wouldn't suggest buying anything less powerful than the i5-4690k at this point. Within another year or two that CPU, despite its great performance for the price, will begin to reveal some weakness. I'm already starting to see it in the newest games like The Division or Fallout 4 for example. All 4 cores stay pretty loaded. That said, mine is overclocked to 4.5ghz on an AIO liquid cooler and it is more than adequate for this game. Your GPU should be just fine to run the game on overall medium settings, but it was in the higher end of mid-range when it was new and that was quite a few years ago. An SSD could absolutely help a bit in reducing the length of time that the lag spikes happen but nothing that I know of will eliminate them. I have an SSD and when I get lag spikes that are related to something loading, they are over in 1 or 2 seconds at most and then everything becomes smooth again. If you get one big enough for a few games and your OS, you will notice a difference in everything you do. I recommend the Crucial 256GB personally for price to performance if you aren't looking to remove all HDDs from your system entirely. But I might be a touch biased on this one. I think that every PC should have an SDD, gamers even more so, even if they aren't having a particular performance issue that they are trying to squash. -
But if they also add a "Play Now" kind of feature as Hicks stated they will, it should distribute the player base around. What I'd like to see eliminated is the idea of safe, low pop servers. You should never feel that kind of safety.

Sorry for the reposting, but I want to make sure everyone sees this. 1) Double click handguard while the weapon is on your back and a bipod is attached to the weapon. 2) Paint the handguard. (This step may not be necessary, but both repros that I performed I did this way.) 3) Log out. 4) Log back in. Found it today. Reproduce at your own risk.

I found at least one way to reproduce this bug today. 1) Double click handguard while the weapon is on your back and a bipod is attached to the weapon. 2) Paint the handguard. (This step may not be necessary, but both repros that I performed I did this way.) 3) Log out. 4) Log back in.

Yeah, and ask the question on the Experimental thread.

The problem with a compromise in this arena is that players choose the path of least resistance. It will go the way of 1pp only servers.
-
I'm certain that the servers can be configured to not report player numbers to Steam. In my opinion, once the server login queue is running and functional, the server browser should show you the name of the server and ping. Nothing else. No P. You should be stressed every time you go anywhere that is a point of interest. You should never feel safe outside of a manned and fortified base. If you don't want the stress, there are plenty of copies of CoD to go around.

In the Tisy military base, there is a green guardhouse on the northeast side. Twice now I have found particularly rare weapons spawned in that building. It's possible that the VSS was dropped. I find it incredibly unlikely that the FAL was though. http://imgur.com/a/hDQ0c

I did but Xinput was broken in .59. I used a 3rd party program. It was pretty nice honestly. But in this patch I don't think it will make a difference. The input lag will still be through the roof since FPS drops out massively in vehicles.

Will trade Winchester w/ Scope and Ghillie Wrap plus 80+ Pristine .308 for just the SVD. Mine was stolen from me through friendly fire. -
I too have begun to suspect that persistence for barrels and tents is not 8 days. Two weeks ago I placed a civ tent inside a car tent. On server restart, the civilian tent can no longer be accessed because it reoriented itself so that the mouth of the tent is flush with the wall of the car tent. It's still there. It's been at least 12 days for absolutely sure. It wouldn't be the first time Hicks was wrong about this. He thought the 8 day timer was in effect during the last patch as well. It wasn't, which we learned the hard way when the 45 day timer wiped out multiple large camps my group had built.
