The day will come when you will be happy that they did fix it. Right now, server populations are not especially high. The day will come when that is not the case and player counts are much higher. You can and will run into firefights anytime, anywhere. Hell, I've had several hostile encounters in the game North of the highway that runs from Novaya Petrovka to Svetlojarsk even now and I am not the PVP KoS type. These changes will benefit everyone in the long term (unless you only play on 1PP servers) even if you don't see it now.

I have seen the amount of bullets that it takes to kill infected without a headshot vary wildly from stable build to stable build and experimental to experimental. I ALWAYS opt to carry the M1911 as soon as I can get a hold of one. It is by far my favorite sidearm aside from the obviously superior FNX. Some builds, you can OHK infected with .45 ACP. Other builds require 2-4 shots. I have no idea why it changes so much but I know exactly what you are talking about. Maybe we could get some kind of official clarification on that. I will shoot SMoss a message about it and see what they say. -

Looked at video The UMP45 fires .45 ACP. How is it that it does not do the same damage as the M1911, FNX, Magnum, or Repeater? The round determines the damage and last I saw .45 ACP does the same damage as .357 and is the highest damage of any pistol caliber round in the game. -

I'm not trying to be rude Frosti, but I don't understand what you mean. The graphics in that video do not look good at all. They aren't designed to. The video is just demonstrating procedural weather. It shouldn't take more than a crappy laptop to run that snow effect. Hell. The cell phone in your pocket could do it. The flakes are one dimensional definition-less objects. They might as well be paper. -

I get that. I just wanted to make sure everyone understood that DX 12 cannot be doing anything for them at this point. However, any game that does offer DX11 and DX12 support should be interesting as far as benchmarks are concerned. We will be able to see real world side by side comparisons. I'm pretty excited tbh. -

I didn't read the whole thread, but did anyone mention that it is literally impossible for the improvements to be a result of DirectX 12? This game doesn't use the DX12 API. It still uses DX9. Just like how if you run a game like Borderlands 1 or Arkham Asylum today, they don't suddenly use a new API just because a newer one is available. Once they get done implementing the new renderer, DayZ will use DirectX 11. After that they plan to allow us to use DirectX 12. However, we are many months away from DX12 having any impact whatsoever on our DayZ experience. -

They will release the server files, confirmed by Hicks. I don't see any reason why you couldn't run a local server on one of your machines. -

You can't please everyone I guess. No one was more excited for 0.57 than me and now I find myself wistfully longing for 0.55. Zombies and loot are 100% of the reason I play this game and both are broken as fuck in Stable atm. -
I really wanted to post here about how ridiculous most of the 3PP arguments are but I got most of the way through a proper rebuttal of all of Etherimp's points (especially since it was all SO poorly formed) and realized this whole thing is pointless. We could literally copy and paste this discussion from 500 other threads without skipping a beat. Keep calm and continue beating your heads against the proverbial brick wall.

The CLE isn't doing anything for you guys on Stable right now. Every time the server restarts, the server is reset to its initialization state. That's why there is loot everywhere. -

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I'm asking for the status on zombies. I'm not asking them to drop everything and put them back in the game. I want to know where they are at, what they plan to do, what patch they hope to address them in, what is keeping them from being in the game, etc. Also, I did not think they removed zombies because of player desync. As I understood it, they identified a bug in the AI code causing the infected and animals to overly tax server hardware. While that may have been impacting player desync in certain scenarios, I'm not sure that was the primary issue causing desync. I've played quite a few builds with few to no zombies now on experimental and desync was still an issue. On Stable right now I can hop on a server with 40+ players and still have issues with picking up items or eating and drinking. I did not mean to imply that the devs have their priorities screwed up. I'm sure they will get to it when they get to it. It's just that they touched on almost every other major component of the game in this Status Report and didn't mention the AI at all.

I'm not a dev, so don't take this as gospel, but I'm pretty sure they mean that the map guys will go through and make the world look a bit less clean and more post apocalyptic. I seem to recall them explaining this in a bit more detail at some point, somewhere on this forum. I know that is super vague and almost no help, but it's hard to pin down what Twitter post, forum post, sub forum, DayZ interview, or article I read about it in. Plus, the search function on this forum is awful.

For every 10 deaths I have experienced thus far, only one has been at the hands of another player. So when 90% of my deaths have been equally beyond my control and frustrating, it's hard to narrow it down to one. However, this is alpha, so it is what it is.

I love hearing that the ghost sounds are fixed and persistence and loot respawning are top priorities for 0.58 Stable. Seriously, I cannot overstate how glad I am to hear those things. But.... What about the zombies? A large respawning population of bloodthirsty infected are just as important to me as the ability to build a camp. The infected provide a layer of depth and complexity to the moment to moment gameplay that leaves the experience strangely unsatisfying and hollow without them. Even on a full server, I can go hours without seeing a single player. In 0.55, I couldn't walk for 5 minutes without hitting a patch of them. Some of the most harrowing moments I've ever experienced in DayZ have been a result of my own stupidity and the AI monkey wrench that the infected are eager to provide. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir so, I guess I will get to the point. What's the status on zombies?

You do know that raising your FOV reduces zoom, right? And they just made it so that your ADS FOV is locked. So no one can lower it on the fly to zoom in more.

Zombies were originally not going to be in this build at all. They ended up leaving a few in there for us. Eventually we will see zombies everywhere, but they identified some bugs in the AI code during the last round of Experimental builds. The AI was eating server resources to a higher degree than it should have. -
Upgrading my rig with DayZ in mind - AMD or Intel?

I hear you dude, but I spent weeks messing with it. Other settings don't seem to impact my performance that much. Changing objects from Very Low to anything higher eats 20% or more of my GPU. Clouds and Shadows max eat like 10%. No other single change to my settings causes such a massive performance hit. Any time I go below 30FPS I find it to be absolutely unacceptable. I also don't want to look at some grainy, aliased, choppy shit show either. If I was cool with that, I'd have spent $1100 less and got a console. These settings are the best balance for me. You might expect the game to run much better on my rig, and I guess it probably does to some extent, but it still isn't very impressive. Of all the things that annoy me about DayZ Alpha, the ridiculously awful performance is the worst. Enabling occlusion culling alone would provide a massive performance boost to even the weakest of systems. Alpha is alpha though, so I try not to complain. -
I definitely thought about this too. A lot of the assets that already exist would still fit in quite well with this theme. That would mean less work on creating new models. The mod could include areas of excessively high radiation with gear added in to help protect your character. Also, since BI will be adding in aggressive wildlife in the future, that could be adapted to throw in mutated giant wolves.

This idea reminds me of another idea I had. I'd like to replace the zombie and aggressive wildlife AI with dinosaurs.
