Lets talk about looting and zombies/animals animations

Maybe this topic would be better to move in Suggestion thread but I also think that can be place it here. OK lets start it. I would like to split this topic into two parts. In first part I would like to talk everything about looting (containers, time looting and looting animation) and in the second part I would like to talk about zombies and animals attack animations and skining animation. 1. part - Looting What I really don't like about looting in DayZ is that the looting is boring and too quick. Looting a house, jecket, jeans, boxes, tents, bodies, etc. should take some time. You shouldn't be able to run around with your inventory open while looting, because thats makes no sense. Looting should be very realistic because this is the main thing in the game that we can do and we do constantly. It should really feel like survival. Running trough a building and looting everything in a few seconds is highly unrealistic. To make looting more realistic and more fun/enjoyable we need to think about some things: Looting time (1) Containers (2) Loot animation (3) ---------------------------- Looting time (1) I think we all know what I mean by that. Project zomboid have this, Rust have this, Escape from Tarkov have this and it's pretty awesome. For example. Escape from Tarkov did it quickly and cleanly. A simple "Search" button over objects to search it with a 1 - 3 second wait timer on it. I am not saying that dayZ need looting system exactly like this, I am saying that we need something similiar. Forcing you to spend more time hanging around the dead body and thus putting you at higher risk than before. It's a way to add a ticking clock mechanic to looting, and given that DayZ is at it's finest when it gets your adrenaline going, surely the ticking clock is a desirable addition? By adding a timer - the ticking clock - to searching containers in the world we increase the risk of ambush. A small adrenaline increase when in high risk areas would be expected; doubly so if, whilst you had 3 seconds left on a search for example, you heard footsteps or gunshots. Containers (2) I think this will be a thing but I still want to mantion how important that is for immersion. Instead of a new "Search action" what about more places to search? I'm thinking it would be nice to have some of the fixed furniture become potential containers for loot. So instead of just looking around the room for extra polygons, you would just stand by the dresser or cabinet to see if there is something inside. This way a player can take their time for a thorough search and get rewarded with loot that the other players who just pop their head into a room would miss. So no new mechanics, just more places to apply the current mechanic that creates a more realistic time investment vs reward payoff relationship. Loot animation (3) And while looting someone's body this animation (another example) could run. In both example animation last for 2 maybe 3 seconds. In Dayz looting animation would last until we finished with the looting. This is great way to see if someone loot other's body or not and that's why we need somekind of loot animation. I also think that you should only be able to put items in your pockets, hands and back into the quickbar to access immediately. All other items in your backpack or other storage should either take time to dig out or make you actually put the bag on the ground or create a new (cancelable) animation for rummaging through it. 2. part - Zombies/animals attack animations and skining animation. This is survival simulations with zombies (ok with infected people). They are quite good at the moment. But they are not a challange. Ubisoft with Far Cry 3 makes some good animation when it comes to animal/human fight. We can learn something from them. Zombie/animals animations What I think it would be great if zombie could knock you down. And in order to push him back away from you you will need to press E button something like that or like that (imagine zombie instead of dog/aligator). This would bring more challange while fighting with them. Right know they just wave at you and smacking you around and this is not scary. Those zombies animation attack we could implement also when it comes to battle beetween us and wolves or bears. This would be a view from someone who is not involved in a fight Skinning animation For skinning animation we can also take an inspiration from Far Cry 3. Far cry 3 use this animation for skin an animal. In Dayz skining an animal should take more time. Maybe 5-10 minutes depends on your hunting/skining skill? Let me know what you think? Would you like to see some of my suggestions in DayZ or this would not benefit DayZ? Do you like looting system from Escape from Tarkov. Or maybe the one from Project Zomboid? What do you thing about zombie/animals animation from Far Cry 3? Would those animation fit in DayZ? I really like this game but I just hope that at the end the game will give us challange and some enjoyment. Don't forget that this should also be a horror game. Anyway I think devs are making a great job so far. Sorry for any grammer mistakes. English is not my native language. -
Day 3: It was time to move on. Over night I stayed in some house in town Orlovets. This town was looted and there were no humans. So I had to choose a new path. I had only two option. First option was to move back to Berenzino where I'll probably found some good loot and people but there I can also find some trobules like the last time where my friend was lost or the other option was to go more inland toward Polana. I chose the other option, to go to Polana. I thought Polana is a great choice. Firstly, because there might be some new loot and secondly there might be less dangerous then in Berenzino. So I decide to go. I pick up my backpack with some shootgun ammo, some medical stuff, additional shoes and t-shirts and bootle of water. On my right hand I had my mechete. Before I came to Polana I made a stop in near factory. Of course it was abondend. There wasn't any loot. But minute later some guy find me on top of the construction building. He was friendly and I was reliefed. His name was Mo. He just came up from Berenzino and he was alone. Just like me. He didn't have any backup neither a gun or a meelea weapon. He told me that he's plan is to go to Polana and then to Gorko to find some stuff. In the middle of conversation we heard shot just from Polana. I told him that I am bad with guns and shootings so I give him my shootgun and 16 bullets. He sad that 7 bullets will be enough for him to kill this guys, so he give me back the rest. 10 minutes leter I saw Mo again. In Polana. He was in fight with two zombies. He didn't use shootgun to finish them of but his fist. But I could see him that he struggle with them. He finished them off but also he was injured. I saw his blood and told him that he need some rags. Fortunetly for him, he has some rags. After he patch his wounds I asked him if he found the guys who were shooting. He said that he didn't saw them but that he heard some shoots again. This time from Gorka. He said that he looted Polana and that there is nothing left and that now he will investigate those shots that are comming from Gorka. I told him that I will be there in ten minutes. He noded me and immediately goes toward Gorka. But I changed my mind. I decide to stay in Polana and check some houses if there is something that Mo missed. I enter in two storey building. On the first floor there were piano on the second floor there were table with some books. I stayed there until I heard some footsteps. It was someone else. He came up and told me that he is alone and he doesn't have any weapon. I told him that I am also alone and I have mechete on my right hand. He approach to me and I could see that he was telling a true. On his back he had a shootgun but with no bullets. But minutes leter I realized he was lying to me. He has friend with him. The other dude was in the opposite builiding where I was. He had a gun and a calm hand. It took him only two second to put me down. One bullet into chest and the second one probably ended in my head. I just hope Mo is safe in Gorka and he is not waiting for me to come in Gorka.

And here is my little story. Again, sorry for my english. Day 2: Today I met some black Italian man who was very nice to me. He was 19 years old from Rome and he was alone just like me. I introduce to him as a Kevin. He told me his name but I forget it. Which I am regreting because he is now missing. Me and my Italian friend met another group of two. One of them was a german, the other one didn't introduce himself. They were friendly too but they didn't tell us their names. We didn't stick togheter. They choose their own way and me and the Italian dude take the other one. But we choose the wrong one. 5 minutes later we ran on another group of two. Those people were bad. He try to talk to them but I told him to stop. He tried to convince them that we are friendly. But before he do that we could hear the gun shots from their pistols. I told him to run away from them but he probably didnt hear me. He is either dead or alone on run. Or maybe he was kidnapped? I tried to find him. I run back to german man. I catch the german man and his group who was now bigger for to additional two members. I ask him for help to find my friend. They were for action but we didnt find the Italian man, neither the shooters. He is gone. For ever. He will be forever in my hart. Berenzino is a war zone. I need to move on...

I have question for you guys. After a long break I decide to play some Dayz. I decide to play more hardcorish and more realistic. So I made my own rule. I play it like there is stamina. So, no running unless there is some threat (player...) and only for couple of minutes. So most of the time I am walking and oh man oh man! This map is huge!!! You are more atteched to one city and you really need to check if you have anything before you move on next big trip, next city. Food, water, clothes, rags, pistol...everything. Also if I don't have rope in my inventory I cannot carry weapon on my back. Knife, baseball, Mechete, Axe can only be carry in hands. Question. Is there anyone else who enjoy walking? Playing more realistic and hardcorish? Sorry for my english.

On one hand I cannot understand how so realistic and simply thing is not implemented yet but on the other hand I can fully understand for that because people are pussies. Just read through this theme and you will see the reason why such a thing is not in the game (but it should be). Lol, someone even said that he would quit if this would be a thing. I just hope that devs doesn't listen this people and give us a hardcore game. Yea most of the player would gone, but I don't even care for them. Those are the people who want to spawn with their friends, full stamina, everywhere ammo and food, no sprain painting because they are afraid of racist things yada yada.

I am with Guy Smiley with an additional idea. Respawn time is 12h. For each kill you made, respawn time increases for additional 12h. With that, character gain a value for live. -

I was thinking...a lot...about character value in Dayz. I read a lot of topic here in /r/dayz about what thing could or should be implemented to give a character a higher value. A real value, so that each player respect his character and others character lives. And I come to conclusion that in this type of ganre games (sandbox survive games) character get value once there exist permadeath. A true permadeath. Let me explain what I mean by that and how this should work. For me, permadeath is like a ban. If you die, you are banned. I understand that the original Dayz game can't have this, because this would't be fair. You bought a game for 28 € and then, once you are dead, you cannot play it. Thats bullshit, but let me hear. If there was a mod, a free mod, this issue would gone or if Dayz would have another hive, separete one, from ones that already exists. Once you are dead you could still play this game, you just could not play in this type of servers (let me call them a "permadeath hardcore servers"). I hope you understand me. Let me explain further more, how exactly this could work. Imagine, the game is finished, there is no deaths from stairs, deaths from swimmers, ghost deaths (we will get there, just have some faith in developers). Game is completed and playable so there is no bug or glitch that could kill you. You start a new life. If you die you are banned for 1 day. For each person that you kill, you get additional days. If you kill a person your ban expends for additional 4 days. So after you kill one person and you die, you get 5 days ban. If you kill two players along your journey you get 9 days ban and so one. So for each kill you get additional 4 day ban. It doesn't matter if was a self defance kill or cold-blooded kill. How this work in practice (in game)? You start a new life and in the distance you see a freshie. You ask yourself. It is worth to kill a freshie with no gear for 5 day ban? Probably not. You move on, maybe you ask him if he wants to team up with you or you just leave him behind. After two hours, you see another person. Fully geared. You look at him and you ask yourself again. It is worth to kill a fully gear player for 5 days ban? Probably yes, or not, depend on you, but at least it a good "offer". Let's say you killed that person and after that you killed two more. Now you are on 13 day's ban. You become a real killer, you don't value your live and other lives anymore, because additional 4 day ban would be nothing compared to 13 day ban that you already have. And that's fine, that would probably happened in real live too. The first kill must be horrible. The second one also. But when you are a serial killer you probably don't care about live anymore. Additional days ban will be punishment for killers. And what would be reward? Survival time. Your days ban can be reduce by time you are alive. Survival time alive/kill ratio would decide how many days you will be banned once you are dead. Now, you can say that there would be a camper who would just kill freshies. Yes, that might happend, but once he die, he will be gone from server for a long time. The bigger problem that this are hackers. They would probably find a way to avoid this permadeath system (ban system) or with their cheats they would just kill others with unfair advantage. But with good administration and over the time I belive this issue can be solved. So this is my solution, this is how I would like to see a final game. I know that this can be done with mods, but I don't know how to code, so it's up to you modders to make this happen. If anyone do this, I am prepare to support this project. TLDR: The only thing that could give a character value is permadeath. Once you are dead, you are banned for one day. For each kill you get additional 4 day ban. Once you are banned, you could still play a game, but just not in this type of services.

If you are not psychopath, serial killer, hitman or soldier, just a normal civillian, kill a man in fight (even if it is self-defense) would affect on your mentality (probably). You may feel kind of guilty (although you are not according to the situation) for taking a human life. Some people would make a homicide just for killing a person, even if this person deserve that (ok, only God can decide who deserve to die and who not :D, but let me say it like that ). Killing someone should be a horrible thing and should be punished and this is the only thing that comes to my mind that can make it so. Btw, you can still try to run away but I know sometimes things happen that are just out of your control - Alexander Mahone, Prison Break :D -
When you restrain people you could use duck tape or rope to cover their mouth. Once you covered the mouth he/she cannot use direct chat/communication? Will this be a thing and how much time can this take to develope? Also when we will see this thing?

Today I found telephones in Dayz and I thought that we could use them very well. I found them in Hospital and in some School buildings (not so sure about that). I belive there are many in Chernarus. How could we use them? For calling from this Telephone you would need a Telephone coin. This line would be available for max 2 minutes. Beside telephone, there would be a telephonebook with all information about where are all telephones located and for each telephone there would be an index. Something like "Novodmitrovsk Hospital #14" and you would need to type number 14 for calling that phone. If nobody pick up the phone, phone would ring for some minutes and sound of the ringing would attrack the zombies. Anyone can answer on telephone, but the one who is calling, need to have a telephone coin. Yay or nah?

I think that Dayz needs more diverse items. Right know, looting a building is kind of boring. Every building is the same, has the same items, there are nothing to be suprised. Nothing to see new. So I made a list of items, that can make a looting more enjoyable. I don't know about you, but I prefer to see more useless items in game rather then usefull but repeated items, if you know what I mean. Check out my list and give your opinion on that. Is that, for developers, waste of time, or they should implement such things into the game.
