Did I do something wrong? Sniping in the Airfield

It all depends on your playstyle, some people take it easy with gunfire, others KoS to their hearts desire.. In this case, you took a shot, and felt that it was uncalled for. And it's good to question your own judgement from time to time. My playstyle is mostly one of caution. I generally don't shoot people that aren't a direct threat, but I've gotten gunned down from time to time just for being there. But, if you want to, try to stash your gear away safely, and just go out and talk to people, It can be great (most of the time it's just awkward and weird) but from time to time you run into good people and have more fun playing because they are funny guys, or, you have a good time because you're paranoid. I do, as always, recommend trying all sorts of playstyles, just to have variation, and for me, it's just as scary to talk to a MFer as it is to go rambo on him. another thing is to watch people, preferrably through a scope, and count how many times he could have been dead.. The interesting bit is that at some point, you realize that behind those running pixels, there is a player. And that player could be just some douche, or a future friend (on steam)

Exp Update: 0.58 + Hot Fix.

Heading over to the feedback tracker to do some reportin' but I figured I'd ask around these parts first. I met a lovely guy, by ambushing him along the road south of Zeleno, but after hanging out for a while, he climbed a tower, and got stuck in the climbing animation. That I shall hereby refer to as the Ravin' glitch, sliding around and dancing. Has anybody experienced this? (solution was, ironically enough, to drink some water, wich stopped the rave)

Exp Update: 0.58 + Hot Fix.

Had a good time with the missus yesterday.... (okay, this morning 01.00-05.10) Spawned in fresh and headed up to Mogilevka where i got in a bit of a pickle with somebody wielding an axe and the ever so deadly trumpet. and as it turns out, running away yelling "D**ck move bro!" only makes them shoot at you. however, I did go back and got smacked to death (because I'm terrible at this game) Later on we met up and headed over to Novy, where a fine gentleman snuck up on the ol' lady and started mugging her, (as a standard, a mugger deserves to get atleast something) But I snuck up on him and pickaxed him in the back, as it turns out, he didn't have any ammo, and the fight ended with all three of us just laughing at the situation. Experimental seems to be running quite well for us, (we're both on lower end computers) and having most servers offline made for an interesting evening.. only bugs I noticed was the inability to pick up some stuff (solved by just putting it in hands), and a backpack that became invisible for Forks every time I put it on the ground. Might get back on it tonight, and pretty please, If you see a guy up in Krasnostav, wearing an antistab vest, a grey hoodie, and blue cargos. atleast go "hey man, wanna buy some candy?" or something before you blast me. (because 9/10 you'll see me first, I'll be standing around like a dunce, and not be paying attention.) TL;DR -story time -mugging -exp=ok -"buy some candy?"

    Tents and Vehicles Wiped

I do believe it is because of this: "Lastly - as development with 0.57 wraps up, the current iteration of the Central Loot Economy will have loot persistence (the saving of spawned and dropped loot, as well as tents) disabled - while the programming team resolves the blocking issues with item cleanup" - Hicks So until they fix the CLE, and have a firm grasp of what is causing the issues, the Persistence, Spawning, Inventory, and so forth will be, as one would say, "fucky" I for one have taken a short stint of not playing a whole lot the last couple of weeks, since my regular server has a weird thing where some things are persistent, like a tent in the middle of Severograd that has been sitting there since day 3 or something. While things seem not to spawn properly. Hope it answers your question, regards //Spoons

Revert the ammo can back to 8 squares for ammo

I'm guessing a temp fix, while they set up the new inventory system, because as far as I can tell, you may still stack items in others, and type-restriction isn't implemented into the inventory yet. Back in 0.whenever, med kits held only medical supplies, ammo boxes only ammo, and cooking pots only food, this kept them from being exploited, but with stacking, an ammo box could potentially hold a infinite number of other boxes that increase exponetially, so. as it stands now, deal. also, this solution is pretty good compared to removing them from the game until the system is properly configured. and why complain about extra protection? people try to murder you every time you play, I've survived getting shot with a mosin close range almost without damage, because of protector cases.
  6. according to devs, Z stands for zero, "the start of your story" blah blah.. zombies are WIP, and have gotten a lot better since the start. and to OP, I've gone Mike Tyson, Babe ruth, Cherpa Tensing Norgay, Paul Bunyan, Farmer Joe, Bob the builder, MC Hammer, super Mario, Machete, Gordon Freeman, King arthur and Wayne Gretzky on zombies. And i have ONCE been knocked out, because I was starving. The zeds are supposed to make you want to sneak and/or run away... And on top of that, there are zombies in ex. the walking dead. But it makes for a real shit-show if they are the main antagonists in the series. edit: also, yes, the Z need a LOT of work. but IMO, they need to get a lot harder.

    Status Report - 27 May 15

I would absolutely LOVE this, I tend not to delve to deeply into speculations about what is up with what, but getting a line or two that tells me, even if it is in such technical terms that i have to google it, what is happening with the implementation of systems and the testing phase, would me magnificent. since I tend to read status reports like somebody is telling me something, i know a couple of things. - zombies are borked, so they aren't in experimental, nor will they be in stable. - CLE is not as it should, so stable will be per-off as of 0.57 If the status report (or a feedback-tracker implemented tech-report) would tell me that "zombies are borked because of x, or CLE is down because y done effed z up" I would be SO happy. also i love the game, don't ever change, keep on shining, give eugen and yourself a pat on the back for the constant late nights, and holla at ya boy if you need snus mailed to you #bribery

Why did you buy this game?

Well, it all started out in the early days of the mod. That I heard about from my cousin. We played that for just a while, but the sneaking into a village on your belly, zombies walking around. it was the bees knees. But what got me hooked was running north of Stary, and getting shot. just like that.. dead. I played the mod quite a bit, but then i took a break from gaming all together, until i heard that the Dayz SA was around the corner. And i just had to check it out. Thats why. (right now i play Dayz just to see where it goes, if it will be great, or just ok. But 600+ hours later, when it's good. it's great)

    Persistence wipe for 0.56

I was thinking, If the 0.56 is implemented on the stable branch, and the central loot economy starts to do its thing. On the servers with the crazy loot bombs in military bases, kiosks and sheds, will the items in those places persist until monkeyd with and put a stopper in the loot balancing itself out? stopping the loot from distributing in a consistent way across the entire map? So i decided to make a poll. how do you, fellow alphertesters see the chance of having the entire thing reset, to get actual data from the loot economy? (fully aware that the poll won't change devs minds about what to do, or how to implement the stuff.)
  10. SpoonsandForks

    Persistence wipe for 0.56

I'm thinking that the total number of specific items, for example, an ak-74 on a server, if it is set to a standard number of ex 6, and all of them are in a single barrack, the server won't spawn any new items in the other barracks until it has been picked up from there. or am I wrong?

Couple Of Protective Suits Id Like To See In Game

I'd say giving some sort of hazmat suit in military installations a la Outbreak, (yes, I'm that generation) would probably be alright. You'd probably overheat, be clumsy and not be at all stealthy, but it would add an element to the game where it would at least seem like the military was working on it before it got out of hand, much in the flavor of the corpse filled hole in the northern military base. No advantages what so ever, apart from protection from the rain. Just flavor.

What's the fascination with having pristine clothes?

I like the pristine stuff because it looks better. That being said, whenever i find shoes (especially boots) that are pristine, i always change shoes. because, new shoes. even if mine are pristine too. but i tend to always wear civilian clothes, hardly ever military stuff. because, it suits the look I'm going for. So for me, it's the RP aspect, if I was out in the post apoc of chernarus, I'd grab any nice clothes i could find. because there aren't that many left.

    Your Camp/Stash

Well, the missus and I had some stuff stashed away before the reset, together with a couple of other guys. At this point we have nothing, but the last one had loads of stuff. of wich we had a private tent, with the following: A blaze, because that's what i use. + some ammo Medical supplies, so we always had that. seeds. hoe and shovel waterbottles. one of each colored dress shirt. some food a pair of beige firefighter pants. and that was it. we never really saved guns, but we'd rather just do dumb things like drop a AKM with 4x30rnd mags in the street close to the coast. hoping somebody would find it and be like "yaay" and then I'd pick up for a shotgun with 7 shells to it. because, why not.. For me the camp is a place to store things i can rely on, and things i want to try to save. like a smersh-pack, in case i happen to murder somebody later on for their smersh-vest. not really to keep guns, because frankly, I don't care that much for them. blaze is the only one I really love. and it is... not that good for killing players.
  14. The way i read it was "it worked nice in testing, but it crapped out when subjected to ALL of you, so now we're taking it back in house. Fixing it up, and sending it back out, persistence will still be forced in all servers, but it will be the old persistence system." I'm happy that this part of testing is done with, mainly because I've had enough of hats. (had my friends shoot me dead in order to change character, and then died two more times because i wanted to see if elektro/cherno was really empty, (it was) but after that, I managed to get back inland and all is well again, but there sure is a lot of hats out there)

    Where do I find stones?

some of the smaller lakes and such scattered about the map, and also some yards are okay for picking stones, otherwise, it's the other two options.
  16. SpoonsandForks

    persistent tens + wallhackers

I think that the point is that you should never feel safe. If you find some stuff, you must always risk losing it. If you put up your tent in a bad place, somebody might stumble across it and take your shit. It is a two way street too, if you managed to sneak into somebodys base, tent or something. and then you get the message "no way bro, it's locked, you can't steal their stuff" it would suck. but thats like, my opinion.

Rich gets richer, the poor gets poorer

They did think it through. It is hard, food is not an easy find. in 0.54 I never hunted, never farmed, and left everything that wasn't peaches. In 0.55 everything helps, even a can of bacon. and i can not say this too many times. NO. zombies DO NOT ALWAYS take a ton of hits with fireaxe to die. sneak up on him/her, if it sees you.. run. If it doesn't, aim above and to the left of their heads. quite a bit too. smack it in the head, and it is dead. I've done this about 20 times now. the problem is that because they are moving so fast, and also ducking around when hitting, people are just missing the head. Hell, i cleared out stary sobor with a chambered sporter. it took me a good while, but headshots kill. and "short story, you die." yeah. you do, a lot. the point of the game is to make you fear death. because it's not going to be "damn, i died. well time to make a 30 minute loot run to get geared up again." It is going to really suck. and that is a good thing
  18. (for my own entertainment, and possibly somebody elses.. long read) Uncle Mirek was a simple man, born and raised in Chernarus, being an only child he had no idea as to why his parents named him Uncle, he guessed that they had bigger plans for the family than what had been realized, but on the other hand, what in Chernarus ever became as it was originally planned? Up in Severograd, the buildingsite for the brand new Amerimart was still in production, 26 years after it had started the yellow crane was still towering over the city, never moving, just sitting there. Bobak, an old friend of Uncle Mirek had worked there for the past 12 years, and had aparently never done anything more than to climb up in the morning, smoked a couple of packs of cigarettes, had his lunch, a can of spaghetti wich he always seemed to drop atleast half of while opening it, and finally climbing down in the afternoon. Mirek was ofcourse jealous, but his job was interesting in itself, he was the first custodian of the Devils castle, one of the many historical landmarks scattered about the countryside. His job did however mostly consist of picking up clothing, for some reason the visitors always seemed to take their clothes off and leave them in the stairs and up the tower after they left. Mirek didn't question this as much, the view was inspiring, and if it inspired people to take their clothes off, who was he to question it, who was he to question anything? But on this particular morning, October 11th, as usual, it was always October 11th. He woke up to the sound of a gate closing, a bit strange since the government-built house he had been given didn't have a proper gate in the fence. "best not to question it" he thought and sat up in bed, resting his feet on the cold floor with his legs in an akward angle, the bed stood no higher than 20 cm off the floor and was about 30 cm too short for his size, but it was the bed he was given, and as they always said, "we gave you your bed, so you'll sleep in it" and seeing as it was free, he couldn't complain. He got up with a slight groan and looked across his desk into the forest behind the house, it was raining again, that sort of constant downpour that chills you to the bone. he picked his damaged jeans off the floor and looked through the house for his jacket, it was behind neither of his two chairs, or in the half assembled closet in the upstairs office, as he went down the stairs and headed towards the kitchen he found it, nestled in a corner next to his headtorch and a morphine stick, the latter he had gotten in the mail a few days earlier, no letter or parcel, just the stick. It was strange, but no more than usual. He grabbed the jacket, the upper part of a dark blue tracksuit, apparently it was all the rage in Elektro, according to his cousin Igor, Mirek wasn't convinced. He slogged into the kitchen and grabbed a can of baked beans off the top of the fridge, it was all he had home, so it would have to do. He was sure that he had a can opener in his pants the day before, but waking up his waterbottle had changed pockets, as had the handcuff keys he usually carried with him, and the can opener was nowhere to be seen. He shrugged and grabbed a steak knife off his computer table and started breaking into the can, he fumbled with the knife for a while and dropped some of it while opening the can, a quick estimation was that only 23 procent of the can was still left. "no five second rule" he muttered as the food was absorbed into the floor. As the government had seized all forms of cutlery, except for knives, a couple of days earlier in preparation for changing them out to new government standards, he ate the beans with his hands. After breakfast, still hungry, he left the house, slamming the door behind him and headed out to his truck. She was a beauty, bright blue with a bed in the back, incase somebody wanted to come for a ride, Mirek only ever let one person ride in the back, that could change in the future, but as for now, one was well enough. As he started it up and was as usual startled by the roar of the engine, the mechanic in Berezino had told him nothing was wrong with it, "a custom feature, to make sure everybody knows you are coming", but he had always felt it was a little too loud. after the driveway he carefully turned left, and headed through the unnamed village that was, apart from Old Man Ptr, his only neighbour. That is when he saw her, Samantha, despite the strange name, she was all Mirek could ever ask for in a lady, her blonde hair flowing in the wind, a becoming hobble. She was dressed in a skirt, with a blazer and a low cut top, it was a very popular look among the girls, but Samantha wore it the best. Mirek slowed down as he passed her, a lot of people died due to trucks in Chernarus every year, tried to wave at her, but he just couldn't, he turned his eyes back on the road as suddenly another truck seemed to appear out of nowhere, he tried to break, but it was too late. As they collided he immediately became unconcious and everything went black. Mirek played with the idea of just giving up and dying right there, but he decided to wait a while. as he opened his eyes Samantha was standing over him, an empty look in her eyes, she looked at him for a second and with a calm voice he heard her say "friendly?". And then it all went dark. The end. Tl;dr. dayz references, and a future Z named Samantha.

Problem with lag ONLY with Zombies or Players

Are you keeping track of your desync constantly or checking it when it happens? Because it sounds like a desync thing, Does it happen on all servers you play on? Have you checked the stability of your internet? (ie, if your connection is shared, on wireless, and has a stable u/d rate?) Keep a steady look at your desync during play, because what you are seeing might be the desync setting itself back to 0

    This is a survival game

I agree, i would like to pop a Z in the gut with a .22 and watch as he starts running towards me, keel over, wake up again, crawl for a bit. and THEN die. that would be baller extreme. I did it just half an hour ago, snuck up behind this b**ch who was standing in a field thinking she was "all that and a bag of potato chips", gave her a smack in the head with my axe. she ded.. only problem was, i was aiming at a 45 degree angle above and to the left to hit her in the head. because the hit animations are...... dare i say, weak. so far.

    Best Hiding Place in DayZ?

yeah, you always have to knock first. and by "knock" i mean scream "sherrifs department!" through voice and start hitting the door with my axe. i go through a lot of axes ._.

DayZ The game of rich people ... ?

It will be, but not with the renderer we have NOW. they will change it first, and then put in a lot of other things, and after THAT, they optimize. Because there is no point in optimizing, and then putting in more stuff, and have to optimize again. (this is from what i understand)
  23. SpoonsandForks

    This is a survival game

I think he is saying that the people who want to play the version of dayz that is "easy food, easy drink, easy zombies, easy loot, then PvP" are going to get even more dissapointed as the game develops, the devs have stated on numerous occations that Dayz isn't going to be like that.. It is going to be "PvE, death, death, death, death, death, PvE, and then maybe PvP"
