    hello, i scrape by as a bartender, and i got my rig from a friend who felt sorry for me.... It's a piece of crap.. but hey.. fact is. the game isn't optimized, and won't be. I mean it, it won't be optimized. because they are changing everything. new renderer will come along, DX11 (instead of DX9) will be the standard, and THEN, maybe... perhaps, they might tweak it a LITTLE before they do the major optimization work. (I'm not angry, my game runs just fine)

    50 cent. but jokes aside, people on drugs, and just on adrenaline can survive a LOT, and my experience is that due to zombies flailing a lot, my hits hardly ever connect in the head. it's arms, chest, dick, arms, arms. gunshots are far easier for me.

    i agree that zombies are a bit.... complicated as of now. but i have a few points to consider. 1. zombies are running on the new animations, players are not. that's one of the reasons they are so agile, and difficult to hit in the face. 2. a lot of the zombie issues are server/client related, wich is also undergoing work, to deal with desync and lag. (eugen is making a thread on it) 3. a .22 round to the head will kill a civilian zombie, and is pretty quiet. the sporter is your friend.. finally. 4. I believe that zombie speed is just scaled to the player, wich will be reduced in the future, leading to slower zombies. 5. sounds are coming, the silence will give way to new soundfiles. 6. run... don't fight them the second they show up, run dip dodge dive and dodge, circle back, and sneak up on them.

    Point is, that dayzSA hasn't been what it is going to be since the start, and as these changes start rolling out, people are going to get angry. I ain't even mad, it's amazing. but PSA: - do NOT stay on the coast. - do NOT assume anything near the spawnpoints will have ANYTHING. - do NOT try to fight the zombies like the good ol days (ie last week) - do NOT assume that the old hot-zones have ANYTHING. however - do move around, if you've never been somewhere, go. - do take it easy, if you run, or sprint, you will only die faster. Z, hunger/thirst - do adventurous things, talk to that guy, sneak past that zombie, eat the yellow snow. - do try... atleast try, to play the game in a different way. - do listen to the fanboys/fangirls of the game, (not the guys being dicks) and take some advice. - do team up, if you know somebody from here, or that plays, or your estranged mother, anybody. team up with them. - do respect eachothers opinions. flame on! -

    Need a Few Tips (Food).

    Take the road west out of Gorka, and then turn on the northern road, in two places there are pastures with cows. Murder the cows, and have some meat, also with the currently "herrderr"-spawning (ie anything anywhere) you can find a cookingpot anywhere. But first, get a pot (4 slots) a gas-canister (2 slots) and a gas stove (2 slots) combine them by means of dark magic, and 8 slots turns into just 2. with a 4 slot capacity for food. then it's cook and carry all the way home. or you know... wherever.
  8. Good on you mate, spread the word. I bet you found love, some young thing that had gotten lost in Novo, and needed help to NWAF. cue the theme from Alladin, "i can show you dayzeeee, wonderful, KoS, frightening, Mosin shots sounding like liiiiiiiightning" and so on.

Look, if the first server you join does not have a connection to the central hive, that stores the character data, when you join the server the server gives you a new character. and if you stuck around long enough on the server for it to connect to the hive again, it saves your character as freshspawn-joe. instead of domination-jack. It is a problem with the server-structure, it will be resolved eventually, but standard procedure is to go "F**k!" and log back out, and hope that your dude isnt gone forever. I do believe that the date in the top corner is either some legacy stuff, or just the date of ALL the servers, just different times on the same day. You take a break, Dayz will be here when you get back.

    NO LOOT!

    I played this for a shameful amount of hours last night, the results are. NWAF: empty the coast: empty Novo: almost empty Cernaya polana: almost empty Svergino: limited supplies Severograd: limited supplies Stary yar: packed with stuff. Kamensk: packed with stuff. Troitskoe: packed with stuff. Gvozdno: packed with stuff. No problems with hunger, or thirst. only things we were short of was sewing kits and ammo. but we figured it out pretty quickly. Zombies, easy peasy, use a gun, or be prepared to get your shit broken. maybe my good sir should move, everywhere that used to be good is now utter S**t, because everybody and their grandma goes there. go to other places, explore, and if the server is 50/50. move even more away from "good" places. I hope you find some good stuff soon.

    Advanced Character customization!

    It would be great, absolutely fantastic, and I would spend hours just making my dude. "I have dreamed a dream that was customization, you could only whisper it, because it was so fragile." -Makrus Aurelus. (lame, i know) But, for the gameplay in itself, apart from the bambi, I hardly ever see a face, it's masks, or just clothing and colors, I am pretty sure that we will eventually have more options, not a lot of them, but at least a couple.. We should petition to have a contest, or something, or a lottery, to get one, or a couple, of fan-faces in game.. just so a few people on this good earth get a chance to see that the person they just killed were... themselves...

    yesterday on experimental I had been wandering about with a sporter for about an hour, had found nothing good, at all during that time , server was full, and i was starving. decided to have a look in a deerstand, 30rnd .22 mag (woop woop). and also spotted a pig a few hundred meters away, so yes.. in experimental, they spawn crepe-loot.

    Ssssssssh, don't let them know i know diddly squat about painting. I'm a bartender for gods sake, not a painter. I sort of agree about the infected, but i kind of like the "lore" of the ones we have now. basically, all players are the immune, and the stuff either killed you or made you loco. I do want there to be an extra danger to the Zed, and at the moment, in experimental, they have started to make me a bit nervous again. Mainly because I don't want to have to walk back to where I've ended up in my search for new content. But i think that the secret to the infected is not the amount of damage they make, or the ability to ruin your stuff. It's (for me atleast) numbers. Back in the mod-days, (waaay back when the mod was fairly new) you could go prone, and have a Z walk right by you, as long as you were still. but if you moved, you had 5 of them on you like s**t on velcro.. and that was the scary part for me.. that it wasn't just one.. ever..

    At this point, 3pp is rather OP, but It is still a level playing field, since everybody can do it. personally, I would like to play on 1pp servers, but as i play with other people, one of wich can't play in 1pp at all, (due to fps, and eye-problems, she is not very handy in a firefight, but either way, we enjoy the game) so I'm always on 3pp-servers. and I've had to adapt my gameplay for the situation I'm in, you hide behind and peek over walls, because you know the other person can see you otherwise. So I would like to see some changes in 3pp, just for the sake of gameplay, but at the same time, I'm just waiting for optimisation, and that won't be for a while, But if we could get a couple of changes to 3pp, I'm sure it would be for the better.

    Pistol silencer not working with zombie?

    Ah, Eugen (i think) wrote about this, silencers are not yet associated with zombies, ie; zombies react as if the gun was unsurpressed. I think it's a wise oversight, so they can focus on gathering more information about the melee and character-stealth portions of testing. but soon™ it will be implemented, so that we can enjoy popping Zeke in the back of the head instead of having to fight him head on.

    Should not even bother, since all your posts are either troll posts, or rage towards the dev. but here goes. with an analogy. because. it's like this, If you're painting your house, you've got some tape and paper, you put that down to start with, and then you've got two things, a roller, and a paintbrush. you start with the roller, and get all the walls painted with as much as you can, some spots are harder to reach, and you splash some paint even outside of the paper, you don't start painting behind the pipes and difficult spots with the brush while doing the grunt-work, unless you put some paint on that nice sofa you've got. then you wipe that down.(like the memory-leak hotfix, It's not perfect, but it's less visible) once you have all the walls covered, you start with the difficult spots, (like optimising, wich is a difficult task) after that you start looking for things you've missed and start painting those with the brush. (ie touchups to code and design) and finally you remove the tape and paper, and clean up all the mess you've made.. (bug fixing) because if you took the time to clean up every spill that isn't ruining your house, (aka game) it would take even longer to paint it. And right now, as they are redesigning the engine, it's sort of like that they are refurbishing the bathroom at the same time, I'm not saying it's a good idea, you get dust and other things in the paint and have to re-paint areas that were already done. It is going to take a long time, and be ugly and smelly in the process.. The only thing happening now is that BI has invited a bunch of people over, while remodeling, a couple of them thought it was going to be a party. So they're mad because the house smells, and the toilet isn't working. other thought that BI would be finished by now, so they are walking around the place saying "you missed a spot" and a few of them show up with clip-boards and hardhats and say "what can we do to help?" I'm the guy sitting, beer in hand, on the plastic covered sofa, writing up places that need work, and leaving the notes on the fridge, like BI asked. while saying "this is going to be nice, I hope it turns out like BI intended"

    Ah, but that is the difference, for me, "fun" is defined by the lack of instant gratification, for me, there has been a good while since i enjoyed games that just let me play. Specifically, 2010-03-25 + 2 weeks, wich is when i put down CoD MW2 for the last time.. In my olden years, I now enjoy games that are a complete D in the A to play, where you die for making stupid choices, and have to start all over from 0 again. games where you sit for hours, and at the end... you lose.. your definition of "fun" may be worlds apart from mine, but i do understand the sentiment. If the game stops being entertaining for you to play, stop playing, and if enough people stop playing, the game dies, and myself and a few others can still be there kicking around the dirt. I do believe that all of these functions will be taken out by modders when they release it on steam-workshop, so worry not my friend. the game you want to play is still in there somewhere. It's just that what the devs are making is a different game right now.

    They have been throwing around the expression "world containers" somewhere in the roadmap. Q2 i believe, and i think that is a prerequisite for being able to make it happen. I wouldn't be surprised if it is somewhere in the plans, along with base building and barricading. Here's to hoping.

    I may say that this is exactly what I've been preparing for this whole time, It is borderline RP, but my standard kit is as follows. Clothing: A warm jacket Cargopants Durable shoes A face mask. and an extra raincoat. Weapons: A knife, for most things. An axe, because it's multi-purpose, and Z are best taken care of in close combat. A rifle, At the moment it is the AKM, but as standard i have the Blaze, or the CR, (if i can get a mag for it) no more than 2 mags (AK/CR) and a total of ~50 rounds. Pack: Improvised backpack, because it looks baller extreme, and also keeps me from carrying too much stuff. Medkit, bandages, epi-pen, morphine, vitamins, and antibiotics. (water purification tablets are to be added) 2 PET a couple of cans of food. matches & tinder. Alcohol tincture. And i think that is pretty much it. But, enough with the Kiturbation, I feel like the changes are all for the better, and as soon as the players and Z slow down to less-than-bicycle pace, things are just going to get better, I personally want the added element of diseases leading to extra caution when meeting other players, having to boil water and keep healthy will do even more to slow down the pace of the game, while it adds another layer of stress to it, where you will need to keep moving around the map to aquire medical supplies, instead of just hopping in a truck and go scouting for crash-sites to get geared up for the PvP. I am sure that the upcoming changes will (after being tweaked, tested, taken out, re-written, put back in, tested and tweaked again -repeat x3) bring dayz to the level of anti-game that rocket and the team were originally aiming for. And make all of us curse and maybe even shed a tear of frustration when we for the one hundreth time die from some mundane reason. TL:DR ... changes, love it.
  23. well, i almost always panic just a little bit, but as of late, I'm always playing with other people, forcing me to communicate with them, so that has really helped a lot with calming me down, instead of just internalizing my thoughts, I'm forced to declare what is happening. I always tend to be the one that gets killed, mainly because I rush into things, because F that guy who just shot at us. But in general, communication, and even if I'm playing alone, declaring exactly what is going on, even to myself, has really helped. example, me and the missus are at one of the heli-crashes just NW of Zeleno, the server is calm, just a dozen or so players in, when we hear a couple of magnum shots, I say "when we hear", but in reality, a guy has, very craftily, snuck up to the tail-end of the chopper, and started to shoot at my ol' lady. the difference between my reaction, and my action is as following: Reaction: "S**t! F**k! What!? where!? there you are! I'll effing have you mate!" -pew pew- "booooyah, MFer! you got friends b***h!? huh!? do yah?! naaah" Action: "shots, tail-end, one guy, I got him" -pew pew- "he's down, scouting, clear." It helps me a lot to focus, instead of acting on impulse, and logically just state what is going on, even if it is just to myself.

    Making real friends in Dayz

    1. Rooting about in the NWAF, the southernmost "prison" to be exact, i suddenly get a message in text, it was simple enough, "come out, and i won't shoot you", my response was as obvious as it was simple. "no, go away", and a small standoff ensued, finally, after realising that the guy outside had a shotgun, and the most dangerous thing i had on me was a lack of water, i resigned to my fate and stepped outside.. we talked a bit, all over text, because none of us had a mic at the time, and we came to a couple of conclusions, 1. neither of us had any food or drink, 2. he didn't know where to get any. 3. I however did. So he kept me alive through the airfield north, and i led him to that other prison in the forest to get water, then we turned back south to loot for food, during this time he let me arm myself, and we continued playing for the rest of the night.. We continued playing for a couple of weeks, but he grew weary of dayz and is now a regular of my ex-roomies "silly-top-down-action-small-map-team-game"-sessions. There have been others, but i think that the only ones worth mentioning at this point is the following. Playing with my girl, on a low pop server we usually played on, there was suddenly an admin message saying "Friendly meet and greet at NWAF, bring food for the BBQ and fire-starting materials", naturally, we just ran for it, and so happened to be the first two people to show up, apart from the admin team. we spent about an hour or two just chatting, as more people showed up, having a real good time, shooting contests, trading, "can-opener fight club" (not supposed to talk about it though), meeting those strange names that you see on the player list over and over, but never in person. however, as it usually plays out, a group of guys, who had been with us most of the time, decided to shoot up the place. So we all lost our stuff. But as it turns out, we did make friends, met one of the other guys a good while later, and we mentioned "the incident at NWAF", looted a while together and split up. And because of our friendly natures, me and the gf tend to team up and play with the admin guys and their friends. And also having them on facebook and planning a meetup IRL this summer. (hopefully without the carnage at the end of it)

    Same mod-disaster like in Arma?

    From what I've read somewhere. It is in BI's contract with the hosting companies that host dayz that they will have to provide an amount of "vanilla dayz" servers regardless, so that the basic dayz does not get pushed aside. however, i do see a day where vanilla might be a small part of the total dayz player base, depending on what kind of mods become popular, but that is far off.. Steam workshop might also be an easy to use way of getting hold of those most played mods. so i don't see that as a problem. It would be nice to one day be provided with an option to get that "start with weapons, only spawn in cherno, lots of cars, helicopter mod".. ......... so those players would get out of my vanilla.....
