Where do I find AK mags?

You could also try chopping down strategically located trees to see if a hunting backpack full of magazines appears. Trust me, it's possible, I ruined a pristine fire axe yeaterday because I forgot which exact tree it was in. Good thing I picked up that hatchet. If you are running around looking for magazines, and find a bunch of felled trees, you know someone had a bit too much to drink while running to a military base to steal all of your magazines.

    Random leg fractures?

Never keep your only rags in your pants, or in a shirt/vest for that matter. I've recently taken to carrying around useless objects like radios in the top and left inventory slots of my clothing. Damaged to items in your clothes and bags happen in the same order like you would read english writing. Can't tell you how many times my pants or shirt got ruined, but my pistol was saved by a radio or a small stone as a placeholder.

    Returning to the game again

Cities are dangerous for new spawns. Didn't you learn to head for the hills, and not come back until you have found a mosin and inner peace?

If Mogli to Kozlovka is considered safely off the beaten path, then I've been playing way to conservatively.

    Hey... You friendly?

Obrez is a life saver. Just yesterday I was going for a long run to bring back an extra bag from a prison swim, so I wasn't particularly stealthy. I had a total of seven zombies aggroed on me. I found one of those giant barns with the metal stairs on the outside, stopped around the corner with shotgun ready and dropped the first pair. Had time for one more shotgun reload before I had to go up stairs. Took out two more on stairs and switched to Obrez while backing away from the doorway, and finished them off. Pulled out regular mosin to pick off the one extra that the gunfire brought in. My only regret is that bullets apparently don't pass through enemies and still do damage, or I would have dropped the last three with one shot from Obie.

Dayz Fps & graphic settings quick question

Yup framerate still crappy. I wil upgrade to a GTX 7xx or 9xx card, and SSD before going to an intel setup. Hopefully the eventual optimization will make the framerate improve, as I think the recommended equipment standard has been met.

Dayz Fps & graphic settings quick question

I think he is wondering why it runs just fine on high settings. I also messed with the setting and such, as many forums and youtubers instructed. It was all bullstuff, turned everything up to highest settings and never been happier with it. I'm on a three year old pc with a AMD Phenom II 6 core 3.3GHz and GTX560, so it's not like I have a primo setup. It looks much better for me on high settings, than it does on all the various recommended settings.

They need to have special servers for players like you. Servers that spawn you with a pre-selected kit so you can go ahead and play the game comfortably. Or, ORRRRR: Servers that just don't work at all, ever. You cheat and are a disgrace to your motherboard. Go smash your video card immediatley. I hope larsehh_ got his popcorn ready.

    Barret 50. cal?

Judging by the pictures that you pulled from that link I posted, I'd say that DayZ got it right with Chernarus being full of SKS rifles, bayonets, and PET bottles; still waiting on those rifle slings though.

    jumping off a deerstand

The instant death or broken legs is a bit overboard from somewhat short falls. Treestands aren't that tall at all, but the military guard towers are right at the edge of serious injury territory. Lets just assume all the avatars know how to take a fall with minimal injuries. Maybe anything less than 4-5, but more than 2 meters high would result in "my body hurts all over" status messages, and a 30% drop in mobility for a few minutes. That would make daring escapes a bit less rewarding for people who don't have someone to cover them or a well-planned escape route.

    Barret 50. cal?

I'm pretty sure an RPG would be a gamebreaking addition, though I've never played the mod. I thought I had explained all the reasoning behind this choice in my first post. People keep asking about .50 cal. rifles, but it seems like a terrible idea to include any variant of a 5 round detachable magazine rifle chambered in .50 caliber. I suggested a compromise weapon, the PTRD. Apparently this is somehow a WORSE idea than every twelve year old in the server running around with a 5 shot rifle with an effective range much further than we can even spot the other players. I do not want to see any of those .50 cal. guns in this game, as they seem more well suited to GTA/BF/COD games. So I suggested, foolishly, as others had before; that they include a weapon appropriate to the region, that can disable vehicles, with serious drawbacks. I chose an existing and verifiably common weapon, known for it's crudeness and relative ineffectiveness, as well as poor accuracy when used with a scope. But you are correct that the ammunition is more readily available IRL. Did you not read orlok's input to this thread? Such a powerful weapon must come with significant caveats, to balance gameplay. There may be a small niche for such a powerful rifle in the game, but it should not be at all easy to find, load, transport, or use. I'm not sure what people think that this game is, or is going to be, but if they are looking for a huge map to run around and snipe people with top-tier .50 cal. sniper rifles, there are already games that do that quite well. Seems that I have unintentionally stumbled into a corner of DayZ discussion every bit as contentious as 1st vs. 3rd person. I tought it would be kind cool if the holy grail of Dayz weapons was not an RPG, LMG, or drum-fed grenade launcher; but rather a klunky, old-but-not-yet-obsolete anti-tank rifle. I feel that I have stated this coherently and completely, and I'll leave it at that.

    jumping off a deerstand

I keep everything in hard cases, or plastic envelopes, lol. I have more problems with single lures in small outer pockets for easy changing. They poke through the pocket a bit and may snag my sleeve while casting. My point was that a compact bag, rather than a vest, is easier to maneuver on very rough terrain. Falling happens, I've lost count of how many time I've buried one leg up to the hip, by walking on undercut streambanks and fallen trees overgrown with grass and duff. Definitely more comfortable falling down with a bag the size of an ATV battery, than a vest full of junk I rarely used. The vests in game should have a bit of a balance/mobility downside, if they are going for realism. But I'm pretty sure people would be pissed if a hi-cap vest caused you to roll down a hill and stab yourself in the armpit because of the improvised knife in the jacket pocket. That may be just a bit too much realism.

    jumping off a deerstand

Jump with the legs, not with the back. I am a very successful dumbass. But only because I've learned to quickly drop my fishing poles and roll it out if I trip. Recently traded out my old fishing vest--stuffed with about 6 Kg of lures--for a shoulder bag, to avoad those uncomfortable balance situations while rock-hopping rivers. Weight distribution matters a good deal, but I'm not sure if that will make it into the game. Running down a hill with a hunting backpack full of guns, ammunition, water, and canned food should definitely pose a hazard of a downhill face-plant in game.

    Barret 50. cal?

Both the picture you posted, and this one I added are from the recent Ukranian conflict, and both picture men fighting a contemporary war with WW2 era weapons; in this case a PM M1910 machine gun. The fact that you provided a picture of a man using a PTRD in Ukraine, cements my claim that they would still be a likely find, while not as convenient to use as the modern 12.7mm options. I just found nearly two-dozen recent pictures of such rifles (both PTRS and PTRD) in current use in the region. https://sovietarmorer.wordpress.com/2014/10/13/ptrs-41-and-ptrs-41-rifles-in-action-at-the-conflict-in-ukraine/ People may still not like this idea, and many may still prefer more modern western or Russian designs; but I don't think anybody could reasonably argue that it would be unrealistic, or out of place to find such old weapons still in use. The unrealistic part of my suggestion would be that the rifle should be broken down for transport.

    Barret 50. cal?

It was just a suggestion. Maybe it could be buried, in a box, wrapped in waterproofed canvas, and also under a haystack in a barn. That way you would need a pitchfork, a shovel, a knife, and a crowbar to get at it. The Soviet Union dispersed many obscure WW2 throughout their many territories. I personally know of US army advisor who saw a stash of WW2 arms in Afghanistan in the last decade, and I'll bet that they were placed there somewhere between 1979 and 1989. The choice of a crew-served, single-shot weapon was to balance the fact that one shot will destroy any vehicle completely--preventing other occupants from escaping after pushing out the dead driver. So if it is realism that you are after, I stand by my suggestion. Do I need to research the subject of Soviet arms being pilfered by military personal during the breakup of the soviet union, and present a report? There are international teams still tracking down fissionable materials that were sold off by corrupt officers, so I'd say it is more than likely a few obsolete, but ridiculously powerful rifles were pilfered as well. Cheers. Or as you might put it: F***ing cheers.

    Barret 50. cal?

I thought we were talking about an anti-material rifle capable of completely disabling a vehicle in one shot, and how one can be included in the game without being ridiculously easy to acquire and use. A Barret M107 would be a little too much for the puproses of this game; especially when you consider that the extended range it offers over .30 cal. sniper rifles would be moot, considering the draw distance. That is why I proposed a very primitive Soviet model which might be included in the game as a relic of the cold war. Don't you like the idea of having to run each half of the weapon to the firing position sepatrately?

    Barret 50. cal?

Language? I didn't mean to upset you to the point of cursing. I read lots of posts on this subject, and many of the developer responses included concerns over making such a powerful weapon too easily accessible. So when I thought this up, I was putting a lot of emphasis on rarity and making it truly difficult to acquire and deploy. The Call of Duty franchise has a much more satisfying spread of .50 caliber weapons to choose from. It sounds like many people are looking for a quick easy way to grief people in vehicles. So many people are just looking for quick and easy deathmatch with ridiculously geared players, that I wonder if they know what game they are playing. I'll bet you all want to be able to jump ten feet high as well. My proposal was focused on the gun being very hard to find, even harder to secure rounds for, and very inconvenient (but not impossible) for a lone person to deploy. Placing the weapon under haystacks UPSTAIRS AND INSIDE of the barns, inside a crate wrapped with waterproof tarps (for realism) would require players looking for such a powerful anti-material weapon to carry around a pitchfork and check nearly every barn on the map to get one. I don't think it is unrealistic for a weapon hidden in a floor to be covered by another material such as hay. I'm sorry that you don't think an antiuqe SINGLE SHOT weapon such as I had described would be a useful addition to the game, or appropriately realistic for your tastes. It still does seem plausible to me, given the rampant theft of military equipment from the Soviet Army during the cold war. I'm pretty sure that you just have a stiffy for a Barret (or KSVK), and nothing else will do. Sorry my suggestion was of such little use to you.

Nope, actually never fully passed. A quick click of the link you provided, followed by a quick reading of the first full sentence on the page and... "I'm just a Bill, yes I'm only a Bill, aaannnnndddd I'm sittin' here on Capitol Hill."

    Less Military. More Apocalyptic. (Clothing)

I'd personally like the option to make cargo pants into cutoffs, like I often do with surplus pants for fishing/hiking/camping. The cutoffs would not get wet when you run through shallow water, and dry off faster after swimming. Also fishing/hunting/shooting vests. No armor value beyond what a T-shirt offers, but lots of storage. Perhaps a 16 slot vest separated into two sides, with 2 slots wide and 4 slots tall. As much as I'd enjoy running around with four sawn-offs, that seems a bit unrealistic. The main thing I want to emphasize about the sport vests is irregular shapen inventory, to prevent them from becoming walking armories.
  20. Make sure you wait at least a whole minute, preferably closer to two minutes before logging off. As of 0.53, the zombie aggro sounds appear to be hit-and-miss. They can spot you from so very far away, and will follow you for quite a ways while you are sprinting. Only when you stop, will they have the chance to really catch up. I've been sneak-attacked by quite a few zeds this week, and the first I heard or saw of them was the last three steps before they ruined my vest. So if you just run until you think you are safe in a treeline, there might be a silent zombie beating you to death for the thirty seconds it takes for the server to despawn your character. Also the truck thing :)

    Hey... You friendly?

I like to keep a shotgun and mosin sawn off in my vest. Shotty up top and another on standby in the backpack for when the vest takes damage. Somehow, I manage to ruin a vest about every four hours by aggro-ing a zombie who follows me silently and bum-rushes when I'm crouched in a tree planning my next path. Obrez is a great panic gun for after your shotgun is empty in tight spaces.

Fancy. All I could ever find locally were the paper bundles of surplus.

    Any plans for 3PP immersion?

But play it alone if you don't want people peeking over walls.
  25. emuthreat

    Any plans for 3PP immersion?

Umm, yeah. I didn't even discover 3PP until I went on youtube, my first three trips inland were done the 'hardcore' way. I'll try to be less of a specific language nazi in the future. Back to the discussion you intended, I don't think any changes can go through without pissing off a lot of people. Even if they made it so 3PP was only usable while sprinting, introduced contextual zoom behavior, if it locked out the use of other functions, or it had a slow transition between changing views; the people who like to use it for tactical advantage, or just enjoy lookin at their avatar's back, would definitely have a problem. I think the safest solution would be to incentivise 1PP play, rather than take away something that people have become accustomed to doing. That way they can still have the experience they have had so far, but people looking for more immersion can have a different type of experience--with more than six people at a time. It is always better to give people something extra, than to take away what they already have. Once true top-tier weapons are introduced, people might feel better about playing on 1PP servers, if it were the only place to find an SVD or other highly desireable piece of gear. People will still be upset, but I guess if they need 3PP so much, they "can go play on their own servers." I think that the real issue here is that the alpha was so limited at release that the emergent playstyles favored 3PP, where one cold run concealed along a wall and try to locate targets from relative safety. If you reeaaallllyyy want that AS-50 or underbarrel grendae launcher, then you must also respect line of sight. I don't care if all someone wants do is stand inside a fortification and lob death at everyone outside, can't have it both ways. If I really want a beer with my hamburger, I don't go to McDonalds drive-thru; I have to go to a sit-down establisment that serves beer. The same principle could be applied here to separate the quick-service, disposable PVP character player base, from the people who value realism and immersion as a core part of their gaming experience. Even this fix will anger some people. But those will most likley be the people who want to have an already overpowered rifle--capable of firing right through walls-- as well as the ability to see over the wall to time their shot on the unsuspecting target. There will always be the people who get their only enjoyment out of the game from simply 'pwning noobs' in an unfair or unsporting manner. This is why Treyarch added the grief mode to BLOPS 2. Notice how there is no ray-gun on town in grief mode, but there is on survival? People learned to live with it. So too, can DayZ players learn to live with having more limited equipment options on servers that allow unrealistic play styles.
