    Bear Traps Galore!

Desynch is still kind of a wild card. I always try to remember to vault before trying to set a trap. Usually, I vault, put trap in hands, set up the trap, step back until I can just see the "take trap/arm trap" prompt after setting; almost always works out ok.

Don't log out in a truck

I'm assuming that the utilities are on poles where you live, and that you have regular grid power service. I've heard of people spending $40,000 for solar setups, because the power company wanted about the same amount to run line and poles plus transformer the half-mile to the property. But if the basic pole infrastructure is there in your case, it might be cost effective to talk to your neighbors about hiring a contractor to install a neighborhood service node. Cable companies are quickly turning into the Robber-Barons of the 21st Century.

Don't log out in a truck

I'm so sorry. I've seen the Mbps offered by HughesNet while working for folks out in the surrounding areas; abysmal. Write a letter to your government representative. Just like the US's Rural Electrification Project of the 1930s, we need to start a push to get broadband service to every doorstep. For ummm, commerce and stuff, like farming.

    Developers giving in to Demands?

I think this comes down to the question of people being free to play the game as they wish. Personally, I think it sucks; and that those people are either cognitively impaired for choosing a game not well-suited to their tastes, or they are flat-out griefers. In any case, maybe a mechanic that made respawn timers inversely proportional to that players average lifespan; maybe with a probationary period for new people to get the hang of it. That should put a damper on the rinse-and-repeat deathmatch junkies playing the wrong game.

    Voice to all players?

Sorry to hear that it is still happening. Choosing a new server only helps out after the losses have been taken, and doesn't guarantee that it won't happen on the next one. It still helps to report them. They always want video recordings, though I'm not really able to record anything on my AMD setup, until some optimization becomes feasible. I'd be happy with an admin chat channel that anyone could use to mesage admins and ask what's up. I hear they are working on an in-game reporting system; maybe once that is out there, we'll see some effective enforcement. Though I'd probably be somewhat entertained by what the OP has described, I'm sure it would get old if it was a regular thing.

Carry extra pants and shoes when messing with beartraps.

    troll level 100

I like to set beartraps behind every door in a police station. It is a really good joke, and the humor only intensifies every time it is repeated.

    The Master Trap

Last night was running to meet up with a buddy and found four beartraps in the same complex of buildings, in addition to the two I was already carrying. Not wanting the extras to go to waste, I set up the three that I couldn't carry in the doorways of three semi-adjacent buildings. So if you step on a beartrap, heal, go next door; step on another beartrap, heal, go two doors down, and step on yet another beartrap; you can blame me. But maybe also learn to keep your wits up. Once we finally met up, we set the four traps we had between us in a two story tavern, and started taking pot-shots at bambis to draw them up. Hilarity enused.

    so much for the struggle

While I don't approve of the terminology of your attempted compliment, I will give you points for the partial accuracy of your assumption. The first day after .55 released, I set down my mountain backpack full of ammo cases and protector cases. After I was done exploring, yes all my "farmed" gear was gone. Although I would hardly call it farmed, as it took me over five weeks to collect it all from all over the map. I soon went to tent city with some friends and died; so yes, I was running on new gear by the third day. Maybe in the future, don't insult people over over assumptions, it can make one look like somewhat of a fool.

    so much for the struggle

I never saw anything too desolate to survive, but I was covering lots of ground. Still doesn't mean that other servers that I never visited didn't have problems. And I'm inclined to believe that the devs somehow confirmed this problem on the public hive as well; as I am aware of the well-documented private server loot deserts. The reversion doesn't offend me any. I've been carrying a hacksaw for two weeks and still never found a new shotgun to cut down. (though I've fouled about a half-dozen Mosins, lol) ;)
  15. Maybe not the "no matter how broken" part. I had a bug report come back closed because they couldn't replicate it, and they suggested that it might be desynch. It was the binocular raising animation looping, and it almost always happens to me when I try to use them. If chronic desynch is causing me to be unable to isolate a bug, not much valuable info can be collected. There is a ceratin amount of baseline playability that must be maintained for bug reporting to be a fruitful and efficient process. I remember back in .53 when I was heavily into testing persistence and collecting trucks, the rolling waves of admin kicks seriously impeded my ability to check things like the persistence of gascans, lime, and other objects. If you can't get to the server that you set all the stuff down on, how can you confirm it is still there? But with the whole rolling engine swap they are doing, I just try to do whatever I can at the time.

    so much for the struggle

Most of these complaints are from people who just think they are too good to pick berries or apples. I still get the giggles when I hear about people starving, because I know it means they are just trying to rush to the south coast to kill someone for their supplies/flesh, and failing at it. I know it's a bit hackneyed, but slow and steady wins the race. I didn't have any problems with the loot this update, aside from that persistence bug the first few days (RIP bag of goodies I'd been saving for five weeks). I really don't get how people thought it was broken; all you had to do was run through the northern interior villages. I spent the last couple days making my way safely from Mogli up to CP, Sverigno, and the northern military base, only to discover that the loot distributiion had reverted. I was really excited to see what that chain of wrecks at the north of the map was going to spawn. Now I have to run all the way back south and hunt server-hoppers at Vybor.

    Voice to all players?

Are you still finding frequent restart-kick abuses? Most of the problem servers that I used to frequent seemed to have mellowed out with the kicky farm game. But it could also just be that they stopped playing as much. Regardless of the reason, I haven't experienced any kick-all restarts for a couple weeks now.

    so much for the struggle

Were the apple trees not spwaning? I know it can be a time dump trying to get healthy of an RNG bush, but it is possible; still never starved to death--except for that one time I broke my legs, crawled into the ocean, and couldn't drown.
  19. I have an AMD setup, and I accept that I will probably not see anything better than the mid 20's for a while. Supposedly Intel processors run it better right now. Try to look at it this way: once you have mastered the art of trapping zombies at 7 frames per second, when the full release is ready, you'll be a NINJA.

Tents in deer stands, how do you get them out?

The "G" option should work. I even use it to safely toss extra Mosins out of stands and towers. Maybe spend a few minutes practicing your throwing. I think it really matters how long you 'charge' the throw by holding G; I also hit LMB when I relaese G, just for good measure. Best way to practice your throwing: get a buddy and farm some pumpkins, eat till you both are full, fill your tent/backpacks, and play catch with the rest. Too bad we can't splatter them baseball style, that would add a lot of fun for the horsin' around factor, not to mention if they added actual baseballs to the game.

    lore driven payment model

I like how this post is about the possibility of adding some story value to the game by offering separate instances of Chernarus as DLC. I don't like how quickly it devolved into people advocating for P2W Helicopter Skillz DLC. I'd personally be interested in some backstory involving the numbers station easter egg. My impression of that story was that maybe something fishy was going on under green mountain, and the outbreak started in Zelenogorsk. Soliders were sent out to maintain a perimeter around Zelenogorsk, but it spread too fast; many of the outposts were overrun. Much of the remaining forces in the immediate area made an evacuation attempt, while sending warnings to the other bases, and police.People from the interior villages flocked to the airfield in a panic, hoping to find an escape. The gates were secured, waiting for all critical personell to be accounted for before the evacuation aircraft are cleared to take off. Multiple squads of soliders were tasked with locating and extracting high vale assets from the region, and are challenged with desperate mobs of civilians seeking direction, refuge, and escape. Ships capsize in the main ports, as civilians crowd and overload the vessels; ballast tanks are errantly filled and emptied by laypersons trying to commander the docked vessels. Organized criminals savagely looted-out pharmacys, grocers, and hardware stores, before fleeing in stolen trucks. The chaos of the coastal cities drives waves of civilians to the airfields and railyards, while the infected disperse further from ground zero. As the roving throngs of infected spread out, overrunning nearly a dozen nearby towns, the tension at NWAF comes to a peak. As charlie squad arrives back from Sinistock with Dr. Zamat and his family, they are unable to get within even 50 meters of the north gate. The fomenting crowd of panicking civilians will not disperse, and flash grenades are deployed; as the driver begins pushing through, and--sometimes over--the crowd. A dozen soliders with bayonets manage to clear the area outside gate while, pushing it open just enough for the truck to make it through. The flash grenades could be heard from as far away as the west gate, and desperate survivors were now tearing down sections of unguarded fence, and coming over the walls; they could hear the screams coming from Vybor and Kabiano echoing up the hills like the roar of a far-off football stadium. With only one VIP evac team inside the walls at NW, the evacuation is forced ahead. Of the eight squads dispatched to retrieve priority evacuees, only three still are in contact; and one has been forced to evacuate to Krasnostav on foot, as the roads have become unpassaable. Foxtrot acquired their target in Nadezhdino, but their vehicle was stolen by those fleeing from the southern cities. After a vehicle could be commandeered in Vyshnoye, it was clear that the infection had spread as far as Novy Sobor. After a lengthy off-road detour through Guglovo, the Black Forest, and Altair, the team is coming through a now-overrun Grishino in a heavily damaged civilain vehicle. The choice to begin firing on civilians was not easy, but an overloaded cargo plane will get nobody off the ground. By the time Foxtrot made it through Grishino, the trouble had reached the crumbling south gates; and the crowd at the north gate could no longer be held at bay using armored vehicles. With the perimeter degrading on all sides, incendiary grenades were deployed to cover a general retreat back to the hangars. As Foxtrot approached the East entrance, the only controlled area was a 200 meter strip of tarmac in front of the northern jail. With the last ramaining plane having just been fueled and released for takeoff, the fuel truck driver braces the pedal down and hops out in second gear, leaving the truck barreling south down the runway. Maybe the driver should have used the whole bottle of liquor to set the seats on fire, but it's a dodgy enough plan, and he couldn't stand the idea of being sober if escape were impossible. If that truck doesn't draw enough attention south, the plane has no chance of getting enough velocity to take off. The East gate was a bust, even though it was the last place to really see a crowd; or infected, for that matter. A burnt-out BTR was defending the gate from a now-charred mound of bodies, and more were trickling in between the fences. From there they could just see the taxiing transport plane turning out towards the runway. The driver knew that the two flat tires would likely get them stuck, but he proceeded north along the fence anyways. When they made it to the corner, the concrete wall ahead of them started puking out clouds of dust and then exploded ina blast of rubble. A man in an officers hat climbs out and asks "Foxtrot? Dr. Petrowski?" The doctor climbs out of the backseat and is helped into the vehicle. The man in the officers hat then turns, pulls out a pistol and shoots the remaining suqad, ending that playthrough.

    Do you have an answer?

Already suggested that back in .54 due to the clothing's constant dampness issue. I have a feeling that it will be inplemented when crafting gets another bump. NO JERKY, NO PEACE!

Zombies are normal humans with virus?

Yes! A mutation of the rabies virus that would allow it to bond with hemoglobin or lymphocytes would be potentially devatsating to mammal populations. As it stands, rabies is fairly innocuous because it can only inhabit nervous-system tissues, and consequently takes many days to reach the brain; traveling along axons at a rate of only 3mm per hour. While unlikely, this is the closest plausible zombie analog that I have been able to imagine. Even though it is unlikely that the host would be as murderously motivated as many pop-culture examples we are familiar with, it is interesting to know that the rabies virus only lives in two places in the body--the nervous system, and in saliva to contaminate new hosts. IF rabies were to mutate in such a way as to travel through different tissues, or possibly form a symbiosis with man-made nanotech targeted at removing amyloid proteins from the aging brains of dementia patients, the outcome could somewhat resemble what we see in 28 Days Later.

45 ACP rounds far less common post .55?

A tip for people who go up into these towers: maybe set down your good gear someplace safe before climbing up. I've had some issues with the server placing me outside of towers and treestands while picking up items. Died last night picking up a pickaxe to get at the stack of loot beneath it; the shouldering animation placed me about two meters away. I felt kinda like Wile E. Coyote when it happened, and had a good laugh at the suspend-and-drop animation, until I realized didn't have any friends nearby to come save my pack. :o
  25. I'm not sure if server-hoppers was the only issue this idea was meant to help soften. Just the chance of logging in to an already occupied space is a tear in the reality of the game. Dying by choosing to join a server at the random moment that someone is also in the same building or room sounds like a design oversight. Having a mechanic in place to prevent such mishaps would reduce the amount of deaths by uncontrollable circumstances, and hopefully help keep the game enjoyable while keeping our survival related to skill rather than luck. I acknowledge that this could also bring problems in the way of people camping known spawn locations outside of any given town. Or as you mentioned, people combat logging will have a chance to be given an advantage by their random relocation; but it would also hinder server-hoppers repeatedly looting the same building. It would also encourage exploration and add challenge by forcing players to re-orient themselves upon each login. Now that I think of it, maybe any logout should just spawn players randomly in the vicinity of the logout, rather than in the exact place. 500 meters sounds about right. As far as the design and development of the game goes, making all public servers playable should be a priority. Maybe now it is acceptable to refer people seeking a solid play experince to the private servers, but the public servers need to be stable and as secure as possible by full launch. Hopefully we will see reasonable fixes for duping, ghosting and other forms of logging abuse. Then we can get back to arguing about weapon availabilities and the other finer balancing issues.
