I'll bite. Server hopping is fundamental to DayZ in the sense that Rocket's vision had included clans having to leave their home servers to find elusive rare items that the CLI could not gurantee one to be on each and every server. I think helicopter parts was the example he used in that sense. Server hopping the same building for the purpose of high-grade loot stockpiling is not in the spirit of the game. Plenty of people have explained how this negatively impacts players who are LEGITIMATELY playing the game; you know, running aroung the map, looking for things, putting in the time. If someone wants to spend hours jumping through servers and checking one or two, or even four barracks to find automatic weapons and magazines, I begin to wonder if some people are just too stupid to realize that thier tastes would be better suited by a game where one can choose their own starting loadout.

Nope. But there have been some *improvements.

If it is not a backpack, gun, first aid kit, or a protector case, it will not survive laying on the ground for very long; put it in a backpack or inside your tent's inventory blocks.

I wonder how they will ever manage to balance the gamma-buffing exploits with people's different equipment and ambient lighting situations. I undestand the need for a bit of adjustment, but is it even possible to reduce the amount of adjustment enough to not be exploitable, while leaving enough adjustment to not leave people unable to play at night? If it matters, I am a forced night advocate. I believe in playing the whole game, not just the easy parts. Of course it is a sandbox, but it is to be filled with a ceratin amount of a certain kind of sand; the gritty kind, and lots of it. FFS, even mario games use darkness to add difficulty. Turning off night cycles makes about as much sense as turning off trees and bushes--which some people might actually want for (EZ PvP) whatever reason.

Violence begets violence. Just ask, I'd give a stranger the shirt off my back; just because the one I'm wearing is damaged, and I have a pristine one in my pack. ;) edit: @ OP, sorry about that creek eating the truck with us in it.

PSA: don't enter vehicle that is touching a tree
emuthreat replied to treetop82's topic in General Discussion
Also, do NOT drive through the creeks anymore; even if you slow way down, bad things can happen. I did a little cross-country driving earlier today, trying to hide a truck off in the brush while I was showing a new guy around. The creek caused the truck to roll over sideways, even though I had only enough momentum to keep it from bogging. We did not make it to meet our friend at Veresnik. -
Why so much about tuna? Ther are plenty of equally deserving lunch meats, and a multitude of cheeses and specialty mustards and breads. This topic dissapoints.

The new dynamic reticle looks nice but is still inaccurate for hipfire :(
emuthreat replied to Anax's topic in General Discussion
Did anyone consider that his complaint might really be about lag, rather than the hipfire reticle inaccuracy? I'm pretty sure pilgrim explained the standard offset, based on the player's line of sight compared to the gun's position relative to player's eyes; this becomes most apparent (and fairly consistent) in first-person view. And excanto elaborated on this in practice, while preferring an accurate reticle. Hipfire seems to work just fine--less accurate than actually aiming. Assuming that one can understand that the gun is positioned to the right and below of the player's line of sight, then it follows that a slight correction down and to the right should compensate for this difference, with all of the long guns. For semiautomatic, and automatic weapons, there will be significant barrel climb--forcing you to compensate lower. @OP: Try getting a "cheap" rifle in-game, such as a repeater, or .22, and tesitng hip fire on the inside wall of secure building. Do this in first person, as well as third. Stand about 15 feet from a wall, and just take pot-shots, aiming down the sights before the first, and after each shot. Pay attention to the groupings, and then repeat the experiment while strafing the wall; this should show you everything you need to know about hipfire behavior. So to reiterate the bulk of responses, you need some practice. -
PSA: don't enter vehicle that is touching a tree
emuthreat replied to treetop82's topic in General Discussion
I was wondering if that would work yet. As of .54, I stopped trying it. Server restarts don't always "fix" it, I once came back to a truck parked between a couple tall, bare trunked trees, and got into it fine. Once I started the engine, the trees snatched it up ten feet off the ground, at a 45 dergree angle from side to side. I died getting out on the lower, passenger side. Moral of the story: trucks are still somewhat unpredictable. -
Nice link. Good info; have some beans.

But they don't work as a burlap sack. Just make them hold eight slots and can only be held in hands. Not being able to use a burlap sack, as a burlap sack=FAIL.

Have you tried Ted Nugent: Wild Hunting Adventure? "Go slow, go gentle, but whatever you do, go wild." https://youtu.be/PmHP4xy0KYI?t=596

You better hope nobody else happens to be using the same channel at the moment you arm the bomb.

But then where will we get clean water to drink?

Hello, and welcome. That linked article was a joke. Didn't you notice that the first three pairs were exact opposites, and that the last pair was games wishing to be recognized as art, paired with a contrasting factoid about the DOA titty mechanics? It doesn't make your point any less valid about the differences in the community, but it was dripping in satire. It would be best to think of DayZ like a survival simulator that takes a bit of artistic/practical license from time to time. The so-called "gamey" features are likely to be kept to a minimum, as part of the core concept of this game. The Anti-Game is a better representation of the concept. I don't ever want to see a kill counter in the game, let alone rankings, but it looks like that too, might eventually be happening. Lets hope they can keep it about the experience, rather than the stats. There are already so many games like that, yet few others like this.

Nvidia Users: Potential FPS Increase
emuthreat replied to UKA Harrysoon's topic in General Discussion
I'll probably just spring for higher end NVIDIA, in hopes of getting decent driver support. I've tracked a few fatal error codes back to threads on how to roll back NVIDIA drivers to a stable version, from 2+ years ago. To be fair, it is mostly moot until the game is finished, but I still think I'll have to upgrade beyond the recommended hardware to run smoothly. -

Good find, it is the next best thing to just never buying AMD or NVIDIA hardware in the first place. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
emuthreat replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/224169-reason-of-1-hit-by-a-zombie-and-dead/#entry2253638 This seems to be a subject built largely on speculation, but it does seem that the more you have taken damage, the higher the chance of insta-death. That link contains the only official acknowledgement of it that I have seen, and I don't know it is even an acknowledgement. On the one hand he writes it off as a quirk of the scripting language and finite state machines used in the game, and then he says WIP to throw everbody off. New information would be appreciated by all. The one thing that I do know, is that the zeds hit you more often now, and that each hit may have a chance to be the one that kills you. Also, beware the slower moving zombies, the leaning stagger seems to mean that they will likely hit you VERY hard. -
I'm about 90% sure that this is a console feature, but will be included in tha PC game as an option. Could you imagine a casual console gamer starting to play DayZ with no idea what's going on? They'd be taking the game back to the stores in droves, insisting that it was broken, or an incomplete copy. I'm no programmer, but in most industries, you don't just go building things without having an intended use for them beforehand. And you definitely don't showcase a feature if it is just headed for the scrap heap.

It looks like it is a reality at this point. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/224386-dayz-sa-hud-concept/#entry2255924

Honey cones> risk versus food, antibiotics and cold resistant
emuthreat replied to hemmo's topic in Suggestions
I don't try to go near many bee hives. I had a systemic allergic reaction to a hornet sting about 8 years ago. As a consequence of the allergic reaction, and still having to work within inches of active nests, I'd learned a lot wasp behavior. I've since been stung by wasps on the job twice since then with no problems, but I'm not exactly in a hurry to see if beestings are fine now too. Totally different creatures, those bees and wasps. I did have fun on the hours-long wikipedia adventure that these bee threads have sent me on. -
Honey cones> risk versus food, antibiotics and cold resistant

That would explain why the paper wasps always go for my sunglasses on those exterior painting jobs. A house with less than five active nests in the summertime here is a rarity. Gets me thinkin; if they add bees, why not wasps too? The larvae are supposedly worth the trouble for bears to eat them. Mostly it sounds more like a fun surprise that would really fit the survival aspect of the game. Go looking for honey, but have a chance of wasting time and/or getting injured by wasps instead. -
Where do you guys find LRSs these days?

The new camp areas that have 2-story lodges are a good place to look right now. -

Sometimes the zombies will be walking through/inside bushes, where you can't see them but they can still see you. -
Stil, persistence does no good when server dies. But at least bag drops and tents live for a couple weeks if server stays up.
