    Trev186's stash

http://i.imgur.com/589ubtw.jpg Well it's all gone now... Edit: As an afterthought, I remember someone in a truck almost running me over on the bald hill to the south; where I took the scope picture of the camp. Only other person on the server. Went by "ham." Was that perhaps mookie, or did someone else drive right past it?

    Need some Longhorn action

I've been trying to replace that one for the better part of the week. I've stopped back by in my travels a few times to piss in that evil creek that ate our truck (and my longhorn). Edit: the Northern highway corridor is about the best place I can think to find one. From Svetlojarsk, to Novaya Petrovka. Don't forget to check out Nagornoe.
  6. I think the vicinity screen is just fine. It compensates for the lack of 'touch' in the environment at night time. Honestly, if you aren't looking at the right height, and in the direction of the object, you won't see it in vicinity. unless you are standing right on top of it. It really isn't like the run-around-and-hoover-up looting of other games; you actually have to be looking at it.
  7. Yup, north of Myshkino on the road to the barn with the hay pile and blue caravan. Also one on the road between Sosnovka and the farm north of Green Mountain. I know there is one near Pogorevka too, as well as others that I can't recall at the time. Maybe we can gather up all of these off of the existing threads and resources, and try to get people to drop yellow drybags with notes in the road as markers. Anyone want to help form a Chernarussian Transportation Safety Comission? The sharing of such information can prevent many ruined boots. I wish I'd have read somewhere that creeks will eat trucks now.
  8. It might pay off to learn about the five or so places that the road has invisible barrier bugs. Those will ruin your day
  9. I would have appreciated the inclusion of a date. I read things like .56 will be a fast push to stable, and it gets me wondering if the schedule was going to be changed. Hadn't seen warnings like that come so far in advance before this one, so it caused a number of people to seek more information, and confusion ensued.

    Do DayZ and Teamwork mix?

I'll still try to be nice usually, and suffer the consequences. It is way more valuable to meet an ally, than the risk of running back to a pile of bags. Once I get a few stashes up, it becomes of little consequence to get killed by testing peoples' trustworthiness. It makes a new opportunity to loot up and set a new stash, or look for trucks in a different area, if I get killed. The poison thing would be helpful as a short-term gurantee of one's word, or death. Also, poison food can be used as traps, for a more polite style than the shotgun diplomacy.
  11. Looking forward to the new loot distribution. I just wish the battle eye warning was more concise to avoin the confusion. Preparing for wipe, by stockpiling...
  12. I'd just prepare for everything to be gone. If you keep your stuff on your back, then bonus!

    Do DayZ and Teamwork mix?

It still sucks every time you get shot in the back for trying to play cooperatively. It still never hurts to try, because if everyone decides to be a total asshat about stuff, DayZ would be just like every other shooter. They need to introduce custom poisons and antidotes that only work by the specific batch. That way, next time I pick up a hitchhiker and give him some food, only to be shot in the head first chance he gets; the note left in my pack will let him know that I was worth more to him alive than dead, because only I know where I hid the antidote. Without making it gamey and forced, this simple poison test would help keep people honest, or at least have "authentic" consequences for taking a man's charity and returning him a bullet.

    Do DayZ and Teamwork mix?

That just happened to me a Krasnostav. I'm too nice, maybe a bit dumb too; 'cause he shot me in the back of the head after picking him up, driving to a well and giving him food. He could have traded his Longhorn for my AK 101 and made a friend, if he'd only asked. Some people... already made it bak to my death he stole the truck and left a first aid kit.

    Servers going dark.

It has only been a couple times that this has ever happened, but I cannot get to my stash server anymore. I know servers will go offline from time to time, and sometimes they never come back. One stash server took over a week to come back, then later disappeared for good. What's different about this time, is that I had just raided a tent and stolen a truck (very) late last night. I was even nice enough to leave a signed note with a link to some screenshots I took of the process. Hell, it took me long enough to find the pen, that they even got a nice care package in the rest of the bag I used to protect the note. Today, the stolen goods are inaccessible, along with every other piece of gear I had stahsed for a couple weeks. Maybe I'm just suspicious, but this seems like more than coincidence that the server goes dark just hours after my modest find. Is the moral of the story to never hunt tents on your home server, for fear of enraging the admin? Before people go crazy with their rule #1, or "beacuse alpha" responses, let's just consider that persistence was a design decision, and that tents were implemented with the purpose of storing gear long-term. The inability of persistent world servers to remain accessible to players is a pretty gamebreaking experience when it happens. The game takes place on these servers, where players time is invested into stockpiling gear for survival, or combat missions; and basebuilding will only raise the stakes. I beleive that this server uptime issue is separate enough from the development process, that it could be reasonably addressed at any time. I understand that hardware and software issues will cause unexpected failures. I also understand that my tent and all the gear in bags is little more than data that could be backed-up and installed on a new piece of hardware and assigned the old title and IP address so I can keep my game progress. There is still the gray area of playing on rented public servers, where non-payment will cause the server to drop off the lists. Why can't they just leave the server and all the data there, but revoke the admin privelages of the previous "owner?" TLDR: Server with my stashes on it went offline. Losing hours of public hive progress randomly is not good recreation/entertainment (the purpose of the game). I believe a fix is in order, considering the forced persistence, basebuilding, vehicle repairs, and other long-term aspects of character progress.

    Status Report - 06 May 15

Is .56 being pused to stable this week as well? BE keeps warning me of an impending hive and character wipe?

    Activate Landmine

That was like the second thing I tried when it happened. I had a freind force-feeding me all the way to the coast. I was gonna pile my gear and have him give me the Old Yeller remedie, but then the server reset and everything was okay.

    Activate Landmine

ERROR PUTTING ITEM IN HANDS!!! I've bled to death and nearly starved because of this one. Only way I've found to reset it when this happens, is to stay in the server until it restarts.

    Persistence question

Persistence was working well enough in .53, it was just a hassle picking up all your best gear on wipe-wednesdays. I still stay away from tents, they are too damn obvious as they are; I'd like to be able to plant persistent shrubbery, or otherwise camouflage.

    How hard should DayZ be?

I'd love for the crafting and cooking system to develop many different layers. Like harvesting natural buckwheat, then making an improvised stone mill to make flour, combine said flour with some water, and perhaps baking powder, put it in a stone oven to bake. This would require a cookbook to know the proper bake time. With the recipe and a bit of luck, you'll have your bread in a few minutes. More realistically, a kitchen timer that's found in-game will let you know the bread is done, as well as alerting any players or zeds in the area. Suppose you don't give a hoot about baking bread, you can just use any timers you find to distract zombies. I, for one, will not be satisfied unless the gold release includes all of the crafting and cooking mechanics necessary for me to open a damn full-service delicatessen. Baking bread is just one crucial step to the possibility of making Hoagie in game. Wild mustard plants should be identifiable and harvestable, and captured live chickens should regularly lay eggs so I can make mayonnaise. The curing of meats would make cold-cuts a reality, and there are already goats and cows, so getting milk and making cheese is not such a far stretch as long as you don't worry too much about the cultures necessary. edit: grammar, color type, spelling

question regarding persistance and dead bodies...

I can't be the only one who takes off all of my gear before doing this kind of risky stuff... Persistence is forced, and it takes no time to find a shirt and canvas pants. Just carry a burlap sack, rope, and an axe to make a bag for your clothes and extra gear. Set down your backpack and any non-essential gear, then put any (emptied) vests or extra clothes in the improvised pack, and there is practically no consequence aside from the long run back to your gear--which might take a couple days, if you play LEGIT; no suicide spawrnin' and such... @ ASTIN: I'd be okay with dead bodies staying for ONE day. Maybe it is breaking the fourth wall a bit, but at least giving the world of players time to scavenge it if one can't make it back in time, and all the better if they do manage to make it.

    Servers going dark.

The point is that it should not happen, given the design parameters of the game. I'm used to packing up my best gear and holding it over on Wednesday maintenance. I only started playing on .53, so I learned to play the game by stashing survival supplies and guns until I had the right ammo, mags, and guns at the same time. The server administration and leasing protocols work in a way that results in random destruction of players' efforts. The only solution at the time is to play on official servers, which don't usually have many regular players. I feel glad when I see even a dozen people on a public official server; but my only interactions have been on rented, higher population servers. That's why I'm publishing my new official stash server--to populate it. has been stable since February that I know of. That is the problem with the public hive, concerning persistence at the moment. This is a good idea, and the solution completely administrative, and separate from the coding and core development process. It would help with advanced bug reporting concerning persistence and "decay" topics; given that a tester was competent in their hiding skills. So far, I've only had bag and gun trees confirmed viable after twelve days, due to wipes and sometimes server blackouts.

It was a Vilayer server, I got the IP too. offline since 21 hours ago.

    Servers going dark.

I was hoping for a solution that didn't cost $500 per year. If I wanted to play a subscription game, I would have done so already. I boycotted WOW, because greedy. And my assumption was pretty tenative, I just really missed out on the satisfaction of them finding my note and trying to track me down over it. I guess I'll just have to go back to keeping my camp and trucks on Official servers with no population. I think I'll go back to using REDACTED again, if anyone else wants to try and populate it, that would help make it a less boring place to "live." I do hope that publicly rented servers would just stay up for a little while in the future, myabe have a mandatory 72 hour warning period to get your stuff off a server that is slated to go dark; I'd even sign up for text alerts if it was offered. Having persistence and basebuilding as the cornerstone of a game, while not ensuring that player progress can be reasonably kept makes for an overall unsatisfying experience. Think Sysiphus. Not my idea of fun.
