  1. When playing with other people, I constantly fall behind. And yes, I am holding down W and Shift. In just over two minutes of running, I can easily be left back a couple hundred meters. Is there anyone else who has this problem? I've tried testing my "naked" running speed with a fully loaded player, but it makes no difference. Is this related to performance or lag, or are there some settings that I could have borked that would cause this?

I run slow, is it lag, or something else?

I'll be on the lookout for a GTX 700 series or better, but probably in a month or so. I've been led away from SLI by Nugget, and think I have a pretty good handle now, on what I should do, now I just gotta save my pennies for a bit. Thanks for the help.
  3. We could all benefit from trying to make Chernarus a safer place for the children. Good work Rick!

What would you recommend? I know the GTX 560 wasn't the top of the class when it was new, but that is the exact card recommended for this game. With an AMD Phenom II X6 1100T at out of the box 3.3 Ghz, 16 GB ram, I figure the game should eventually run as smoothly as would be expected. Would another 560 SLI help any at this point?
  5. I don't understand the question. Are you implying that the infection is a prion? That would make no sense because of the 'immunity' of our survivors. Must be a virus, but viruses got all kinds of molecule. Thats why they be in the club all night. Also, the microwave is not for KOS, it is for hiding dirty dishes. Much more sinister, as this is the first crucial step to creating home-brewed biological weapons.

I would be willing to give it a try later. I logged out near Myshkino last night, so if anyone wants to run some heats, I'll probably be on sometime after the sun goes down on the west coast of NA.
  7. Very true, I'll sometimes sit at the well by the gas station in Cherno, picking apples in a dress, and hiding in the corner. I don't do this because it is fun and exciting, I do it because I can call out targets entering town for our snipers, from relative safety and superior concealment. Yes, I am admitting to wall-peeking to gain an unfair advantage, why else would you do it?

Zeds are NOT zombies; just a small FYI

I like to draw a distinction between zombies and infected by their behavior, and whether or not the infection is transmissible by contact alone, or if death must occur before "zombification." Both the living dead, and infected may be regarded as zombies in most circumstances. When I think about zombies, I see hoards of slow-moving, shuffling, barely aware humanoids that will single-mindedly stagger to pursue any stimulus, and indiscriminately eat any normal animals. When I think about infected, I picture more aware, and faster moving individuals that rush to shred anything that moves. With the classic Night of the Living Dead, and then in Return of the Living Dead, people long dead would rise from the grave, In some cases craving brains to soothe the pain of being dead. In the walking dead universe, everyone is infected, but only those who die will become zombies. With WWZ, the infection is contracted by contact, and quickly causes zombification. The Rage virus of 28 Days later lore will result in less quick zombification of those infected, also without causing death. All living dead are zombies, all zombies are infected, but not all zombies are living dead, and not all infected are zombies. Still waiting for that open world zombie apocalypse game that features thousands of slow-moving walking dead, who subtly react to even the slightest perceptins of activity, making for a play experience much more like an RTS game than a simple FPS. State of Decay got halfway there, with stealthy searching, supply demands, and survivor rescue missions, but lost their course with the convoluted mutants, especially the bloaters and screamers. I really liked how after about 20 hours of gameplay, I stopped sneaking around without ever using an unsurpressed gun, and began to pop off a couple .357 rounds on the outskirts of town, to draw away most of the zeds before I got to looting. In DayZ, if you can manage to light a flare or glowstick inside a building and get away clean, that should attract all of the zombies within range to that building, letting you have the run of the other parts of town. Edit: The WWZ virus, Solanum, described in the ZSG, was said to work by shutting down all organs and replicating functions on a cellular level. While this is technically death, it would not be readily apparent to an observer.

How can I find servers that aren't fully looted?

If you want to know which places have loot without anyone having been there to report on it and/or take it, you must first master the art of determining the exact position of an electron.

Thank you all agian for the speedy (lol) and informative feedback. I guess I'll be waiting on the new renderer and AMD optimization to come along. edit: I'm still a bit flabberghasted that I made a post that got Grimey Rick to respond in earnest, had to pinch myself just to make sure it was real.
  11. Nice find. Let me know if you can spot a microwave oven anywhere.

I run slow, is it lag, or something else?

Wow. Thanks for all the ideas. Sorry if I befuddled some with my two-key sprint setup. I just went and set my run to 2xW just to check. What does "Fast Forward" do? I've been thinking frames is most likely what's responsible, but haven't been able to find anything to confirm it yet. I do get pretty bad frames usually, anywhere from 8-12 to low 20-30 frame range, despite having tried any and all of the published fixes. I have a suspicion that AMD processors might be a hindrance at this point. By chance, I have exactly the recommended hardware, with double the stated RAM. This even happens when my ping is in the 60's, so I've ruled that out. Turning down the video settings has little effect, aside from making it harder to identify things. I know it's a dead end trying to squeeze any more frames out of my setup without hardware uppgrades--which shouldn't be necessary, given that I've met or exceeded all recommended hardware specs. And I have cable broadband that performs consistently at 50 down, 5 up. If it is framerate causing the slowness, please help me to try and summon up the new renderer faster by dumping roasted pumpkin seeds into the pond at Prud. Every little bit helps.

    Stabbing, slicing, and striking

I think that is a good Suggestion.
  15. Sure it is... But it only represents those who wish to be heard, and seize the opportunity to speak. Doesn't mean their opinions will have any impact, but they definitely will have a much better chance of being heard, than those who say nothing. And yeah, 3pp is here to stay, but it still may see some *improvements.
  16. I'll share with you a little wisdom about how public decision making processes work. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. Consider the current state of U.S. politics. Any large entity that has enough money to pay people to constantly interact with lawmakers on a personal level, has a tremendous advantage in determining the outcome of legislative actions. This is commonly referred to as lobbying, where those with the most interest and interaction in the process, have disproportionately more influence, compared to the average community member. Unlike the disgraceful quagmire that is the American Plutocracy, the DayZ forums don't require large sums of money to pay people salaries for the purpose of securing and maintaining meaningful influence in the process. These forums are free to all, and only require modest time expenditures. This means that the people who care enough about their satisfaction with the finished product to regularly discuss their wants and woes, will have more of a footprint in the collective consciousness of the DayZ community. EDIT: dotted an "i" TLDRL: IF YOU CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO VOTE, THEN I GUESS YOU DON'T VALUE YOUR OWN INPUT AS MUCH AS YOU WOULD LIKE OTHERS TO VALUE IT.
  17. Wait a minute. You don't know how to switch the view to 3pp in COD? Noob. Come back when you finish primary school. 3pp COD is tha beez kneez. ;)

About the next coming camera angle

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/225409-how-would-you-feel-if-1st-person-perspective-was-mandatory/page-3#entry2268794 I made a silly suggestion to this effect on a competing hostile argument thread. I think doing what I described would show just how absurd the current 3pp is.
  19. I was suggesting rendering the camera as an orange orb as a flippant exaggeration of the situation created by the camera. But honestly, as the game stands, doing so would eliminate the advantage of wall peeking. It was mostly to illustrate that if the "camera" can see you, you should also be able to see the camera. If the only fair soultion to the advantage genreated by a hovering camera that rotates around the player on a 2 meter radius is something as absurd as rendering it as an object following the player, then maybe the camera angle itsself is absurd.
  20. The periodic table hung on the wall in the new schools is out of date. The entire universe of DayZ is therefore set in an alternate reality where knowledge of chemistry and physics stopped progressing in the mid 90's. It's not really that significant unless you plan on crafting advanced weapons using elements that do not occur naturally on earth, which decay into lighter elements in mere seconds. If you did happen to have such plans, I would be very interested to hear how that would work.

About the next coming camera angle

I think you may have the best soultion. Lakitu for everybody!!! This is much better than my "3pp camera rendered as an orange orb" suggestion; that would just be too gaudy.

    Status Report - 27 May 15

So was the letdown with every week that didn't get wiped, despite the constant BE warnings. I'm not complaining. I'd rather have somewhat vauge and premature forewarning, than no warning at all. But I did have to apologize to my buddy who let me use him for target practice two Tuesdays ago. :o I won't worry about the semantics, as most buildings both do, and do not, have 13th floors.

Sounds great! The videos would be great for introducing new features, as I have still not yet figured out how to identify oak trees in game. I definitely recognized that deathtrap of a ship, I was just hoping that it was there for some greater purpose. Thank you for the speedy reply; and the double quote-- it makes me feel speshul. This level of community interaction more than makes up for little things like those weeks of BE messages warning of the wipe coming with the now non-existent .56 update. Keep up the great work.
  24. There are none in the police stations, that's pretty conspicuous. But maybe that's just to keep all the evidence of corruption in-house. With the amount of wrecked vehicles around, I would assume that there was a fair amount of resources available in Chernarus. Not to be taken too seriously, but I also wonder about the lack of telephone booths, and how I can't think of a single microwave oven that I'd seen. I'm leaning towards a conspiracy to keep things exactly as they were when Chernarus was a happy and thriving state under the magnanimous management of the Soviets. That periodic table just doesn't seem right. Nothing past Seaborgium should have been included. It is an admission of the shortfalls of Communism.

    Status Report - 27 May 15

Too bad you guys released the 2015 roadmap before coming to that realization. Foreknowledge makes the waiting even more painful when goalposts are moved or delays occur. Is there going to be any sort of stand-in for the Standup Notes? It was nice having a list of new features and items to go and test out. I hope we won't have to use trial and error to determine which uses for plants are being added into the game over the course of development. Regarding the new tent teaser photo, were the ships there for a reason? As much as I promote heading inland to play, the coastline features could stand to be a bit more varied. The addition of sunken, abandoned, and overrun ships would make the ports much more attractive. Am I reading too much into this?
