Say goodbye to you flashlights. (and free batteries)
emuthreat replied to emuthreat's topic in General Discussion
I'm a little sad that I can no longer collect all of those discarded batteries on my way back from the coast. -
F5. F5. F5.

What? Where? When?

It's way too hot out here to try and put together yet another cohesive rebuttal to flamers who don't know enough to know how and why they are wrong, so I'm not gonna. TLDR: Shut Up. :) Edit: Where need I to be sending the beer?

So I got home from an eleven-hour day of work today, only to find that I couldn't go fool around on experimental for a couple hours before global maintenance; and I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED. It's coming. The long-awaited .56 .57 update that the battle eye red-text feed has been teasing us all about these past three weeks. What's the first thing you all plan to do with your new-found, slightly modified, apocalyptic playground? Me? I'm gonna make a stone knife, get some oak bark and sticks, roast an apple, and then go directly back to these here forums and bitch about how I can only roast one, measly, apple-on-a-stick at a time. Good luck and good hunting. edit: Didn't the devs say there were to be no zeds on .57 stable? I was just on experimental 57.128035 and there were zombies.

Probably DayZ, because if Nibiru existed we would have noticed it having some very pronounced effects on the orbits of smaller bodies in our solar system. I'd be more afraid of that infinitesimally small chance that a quasar might someday point close enough to our general direction to blow away our atmoshpere; at the same time, heating the sun, and causing it to swell and shed a layer of plasma. If I had to bet, I 'd put my money on a rouge brown dwarf drifting by, as the most likely cause of extrasolar cataclysm. You could call that NIbiru if it makes ya feel better, but there isn't a giant rouge planet in an eliptical orbit around our star. Sorry to be a buzzkill. :P

I don't know if it is tomorrow. (I assume you are asking about the push to stable with .57) I jumped the gun with this thread last night because it seemed like servers went down early. I'll go play here in a bit after dinner; see if inventory bugs (items disappearing when traded or crafted, which should fall on ground) Short of those being fixed, I'll just hope to see it on wednesday. Last time I checked, things were looking okay. But I won't get my hopes up again. That BattleEye ticker warning of the wipe has been crying wolf for weeks now...

It's not just Europe that is unseasonably warm. West coast US is getting it too. Latitude 41 is getting over 30 C. It's too early for this kind of heat, we're gonna completely miss out on the "nice"days that early summer usually offers. I hope my poor tomato and pepper plants don't get burnt while I'm away at work.

Can someone confirm zombies are gone ATM?

Posts obscure pop-culture reference on internet forums, asks readers not to google... Priceless. -

No, they weren't removed? Or no, you can't confirm? 57.128035 had zeds last night, so does the 57.128120 build I was just on. Seems like it runs a little smoother every day. -
That would explain it. I only kill chickens, incidentally. They are so easy to run up on, I'm a bit disappointed that their guts won't string a bow. Might have to make an odd request of a butcher for proof of concept. I haven't had time to check out the new exp update. Is it getting any closer to a stable candidate yet? I'd really like to set up a camp again someday...

I'd like to spawn in barefoot, next to an overturned skiff littered with beer bottles, wearing soaked and damaged cut-offs and a belly-shirt. Break one bottle to glass the first thing that looks at me wrong, and carry an extra for potable water when found. (yes, I'd like to be able to hold small items in both hands)

Lol, dammit. BI are masters of suspense.

In-game? I just tried yesterday, and experimental is down. Confused now.
-
Your idea is best. Play just a bit, for now. Things are getting broken and delayed so fast lately, that enjoying some sunshine instead will make for some nice surprises. Hopefully things will get much closer to that stable update we've anticipating for weeks.
-
Agreed, rope from guts ASAP. Can't wait to see how stable works.
-
LOL for quoting a fifteen-month-old post. See ya on stable this weekend?

Questions I should probably know the answers to

How many tests have you run with worn mines? -
I call it Veresnik to avoid confusion.

Hicks said that it was something to do with a quirk of their Scripting Language and Finite State Machine used in the game; he was not very specific, or particularly informative. He did include the term WIP, so I inferred that it was something that was related to an intended function of the game, but maybe one of those things that it is not worth addressing yet, because of engine overhaul. I looked for the tweet or post where I read that, for all of two minutes, and gave up. As it stands, there is no "invisible bone health meter" in the game, but it sounds like there may be some long-term player durability mechanics included down the road.

Is there a decent source for recent heat-maps of SA? I'm talkin real-time recent...

The game has been in early access pre-release for around 18 months, and it may be nearly another year before 1.0 drops. I don't really think anyone who has replied here is against modding, but it is not the time for that yet. I understand that you and many others are chomping at the bit for mod tools. But is it too much to ask that the game be finished before the devs start diverting their resources to facilitate modding? I know you won't like this, but I really hope that between the complete release, and the release of mod support, they will hold back for a few months to let everyone play the game as it was intended.

I think you are overlooking a certain facet of human nature with your 'separate but equal' philosophy. There will always be significant numbers of people who get their LOLZ from griefing--playing the game with the express interest of "ruining" other peoples' day. True, that servers modded for specialized PVP experiences will likely draw many of the more skilled PVP enthusiasts, but there will always be a group of people who will purposely play on the vanilla servers just to waste other people's time. For this reason, the environmental factors, and biological concerns are designed to FORCE players to play the game in a certain manner that precludes simply sitting in cover and sniping bambis until you run out of bullets. I say throw us all into the great melting pot and see what happens first. I know that this game was born from a mod, so it is important to include those tools at some point down the line, but what is the point of BI even finishing the game if it is just going to turn into a dozen different games in the first week. There will be plenty of time for mods in the future. Why not give a little respect to all the hard work that these nice people are putting in, and just play for a while in the sandbox they're building for us. It's just unseemly in a way; like bringing a cutting board and your own vegetables into a restaurant to doctor up the meal you just bought. Way to insult the chef!

You have a peculiar opinion. I could see how a five year old would think that a mechanic is killing daddy's truck, but anyone at least halfway through highschool should be able to realize what is really happening. So many people complain about things not working right yet, or the bugs that never get addressed, but fail to see why some bugs just should not be addressed at this stage of completion. I am assuming that you know about the major modifications to the engine, upon which many future features will be built. So why the hell would they waste the time fixing parts of the software that they are certain will be thrown out in the near future? That's about as foolish as repainting your house before tearing off the siding to replace it with new. It sounds like you lost interest simply because persistence is being forced, rather than because the first try had such major problems.
