How exactly can i get an m4 without killing someone?
emuthreat replied to Kiwiyellow5's topic in General Discussion
Shoot the legs, duct tape hands, bag head, and then take it and run. -
So I was running around today looking for a truck to drive the helicrash loops, and I found two of them in their spawn locations, and another one crashed into a tree. I had a pristine battery, and a pristine glow plug, as well as a gas can that I had just refilled myself. None of the trucks would start with the battery and glow plug in the inventory, and I could not get them to accept fuel from the can; I couldn't even turn on the lights. Is there some kind of trick to these things now, or should I be writing up a bug report? I plan on trying the same trucks later tonight and tomorrow, as well as going to find a couple different trucks.

Rules exist for a reason. They need to make sense, be fair, and be evenly applied and enforced. Anything short of that encourages bad behavior. It also doesn't do much to discourage the popular conjecture that BI and their server hosting partners only care about continued cash earnings, regardless of the state of the product. I know it is still about halfway through alpha, but when exactly is the appropriate time to begin enforcing their own published server hosting rules? Content and bugs, they have little control over, but administrative duties like this should be very simple to carry out; unless people are caring more about maximizing profits, than they do about facilitating the experience that their own documentation advertises. I won't say anymore on the subject, as I had already once incurred the Wrath of Bone in this pursuit, but I do hope they realize the implications of advertising a certain experience with regard to server behavior in their own posted rules, yet apparently neglecting to see it through with any semblance of efficacy.

You apparently have not seen the three deer by NP towers that run in circles while making demonic sounds. I was excited to see a zombie until I realized what was making all the noise. Now I'm wondering if the animals are getting the sickness too.

I should hope that there will eventually be useful books scattered around Chrenarus, and that the final design choices will make more sense than this specific quirk about truck inventory arrangement. Thanks for the additional info, it saved me from a certain face palm in a few hours. There eventually will be a functional, spatially accurate, engine compartment for all of those parts; and hopefully you will have to learn enough about basic engine mechanics to do a visual check for what is missing or appears to be ruined. Taking what Bororm said about things being obscure, I think it is fine if you have to grope around for the answers, as long as they are intuitive and make sense compared to their real life counterparts. But when stuff like this truck system gets put out in a placeholder format, like having to place things this grey box for truck parts to work, it would be SUUUUPER appropriate if they mentioned those things in the patch notes. They did tell us how the yet-to-be implemented system is supposed to work, but failed to mention that until we get the trucks fully fixable, they had this strange quirk. Just because I'm such a fan of simile, I'll compare it to a poorly grounded appliance, and the need for a warning to unfamiliar users to ground themselves to the plumbing before turning it on.

Tried everything but watching the video results for my google search on how to start V3S. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and start wasting the time to watch 5 videos until I find what I'm looking for, rather than just thinking I can skim 5 tabs for helpful text to get the answers. Some parts of this future we live in annoy me. No worries. As long as this mostly pointless help thread is up, do you know of any good text format information that stays somewhat current? DayZDB and Wiki were no help at all.
-
I even tried googling it while in the process of trying. Counter intuitive is the word, lol. At least the post was appropriately titled, as I was indeed doing it wrong.
-
Apparently it is not a very intuitive process, putting those parts in the truck yet. Little embarrassed I didn't accidentally do it right one of the dozen times I tried. Hey, at least I got a full gas can to haul around now.
-
So I need to drag battery and plug onto the grey header box, above the inventory matrix? I'll go try again. Edit: Yup, I was putting them in inventory instead of in the inventory header box. Thanks for the quick helps.

I would prefer not to.

You post is copypasta. I specifically remember reading this same exact post a few weeks ago, and at that time, I even recognized seeing it before. I must ask, do you just like bragging about that one time that you got the best of a badmin, are you stuck n a time loop of playing the same abusive server over and over, or is it all just a lie you keep telling to feel like you have some valid input on the subject?

What we really need is for BI to facilitate a volunteer position to aggregate all of these public server admin violations and have someone of authority verify the offenses and lock them out of their paid-for servers for a month for each infraction. That way, only a few jackasses with the money to burn will be able to continue ruining it for others. Seriously, how hard is it to look at the server list, and lock each server that has a prohibited name? If you make rules, yet do not enforce them, you are telling people that the rules are not to be followed. I might even be in support of account bans for public server admin abuse. This is why I only play official servers, unless I'm on a war path and expecting random loss of everything anyway. I want to see these forums flooded with people bitching about being banned because they think that paying for the server negates any rules. I also want to see a server list in which the highly populated servers don't have names that are pulled out of a grab-bag of terms like "high loot" "4x loot" "extra helicrashes", basically anything with LOOT in the name--as expressly forbidden by the hosting rules.

Changelog Stable - 0.58129488 - 4.2MB Patch Notes
emuthreat replied to yimmasabi's topic in General Discussion
Nope, I kept my AK, lost all the other shit, including the AUG I was running to pick up. Only really miss the hunting pack, as I have basically replaced everything else and then some in 5 hours today. Truth is, that I signed up for twitter thinking I would be privy to all the latest developer news; including warnings of persistence wipes and such. Sadly it was not the case. -

I would have picked up my hunting backpack, truck battery, glow plug, protector cases, and my extra AK mags. -
[MPGS] Persistence and Auto-Restart Hotfix Deployed
emuthreat replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
So I finally got an AK aaannnddd the appropriate magazines to run with it last night. You can all blame me for inciting the wrath of Murphy. Now I gotta throw out three pages worth of stash location notes and start all over again... ...with a vengeance. -
[MPGS] Persistence and Auto-Restart Hotfix Deployed
emuthreat replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Ummm, yeah, what Mookie said. How hard would it be for BI to make a note on their server hosting agreement that mandates 72 hour notice in the server message ticker before any scheduled persistence/character wipe? -
I think you are just choosing not to accept that there could possibly be a middle ground. Treating chunks of the public servers similarly to private shards would have a number of advantages. Or maybe I'm looking at it all wrong, and private servers need to have more compatibility via shared shards. I personally think that limiting the number of servers that each character can hop would do wonders for improving gameplay. It would force people to move around the map, rather than have a near-infinite number of NWAF at their fingertips. Hop through the ten collated servers accessible to characters on that public shard, and you then have to start playing the game as it was intended. I know it is easy to say "play private, problem solved" but that is accepting that a large group of players is free to hop the entire public server library to cherry-pick the high end loot. It really does degrade the public experience, because anyone who wants to play public is forced to either engage in such jackassery themselves, or to play at a marked disadvantage. If a contractor came into your house to do some work, but did it in a way that forced him to leave you with instructions stack a pile of towels at the bottom of the door, or just live with the draft, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be happy paying for his services. So if people still try to find ways to make server hopping more difficult, let them; just because you have resigned yourself to accepting two less than ideal options, does not mean everyone else must also.

DayZ is a game of multiple inconsistencies across clients

It would still suck to have to segregate the player base three or five different ways though. -

Maybe the solution is to set up servers in tiers of graphical detail and quality so that all players on a server share the same experience. I can still foresee other issues this might raise, like forcing people into lower graphically tiered servers in order to play with a friend whose computer is not as capable. It seems like reworking all of the environment models might be a lot more work than it is worth. -
I know, right? Could you by chance recommend a good coat detective? I suspect foul play.
-
The coat disappeared, as did all of the contents. It did not get deposited by the door, nor the fence I had just hopped, nor in or around any of the dozen buildings I had previously visited; I even relogged and repeated the search.

The old 80/20 rule: Tried and true.
-
Started a private 1PP character yesterday. Had a tough time of it finding food and enough rags to make a backpack. Almost starved before reaching Dubrovka. By the time I found a hunting jacket, I had managed to collect 18 mosin rounds, and a box of shotshells, as well as a weapons cleaning kit in my wool coat. I bet you can all guess what happened when I set down my coat to change up...
-
What if there was a middle-ground, where characters would only be allowed to travel between a finite number of collated servers on the same shard? Somewhere between ten and thirty seems appropriately small to be able to combat server hoppers by setting up camp in hotspots, while also providing enough room for both high and low population play. I would also narrow down the numbers of servers one would have to search to decimate the camps of server-hopping loot-hoarding clans that ravage the coastline out of boredom and contempt for the freshspawns of Chernarus.

What are your thoughts on the state of the game?
emuthreat replied to reiber's topic in General Discussion
Oh, I get ya now. Never really picked out that bit about CLE plans. Sounds like it will just make it frustrating for most people who want to play at the NW airfield and VMB. I love it.
