  1. Well this topic is off to a good start... I though it was gonna be all about emphasizing that the soon-ness is what we shouldn't be excited about. I'm excited for the Tisy base, and to see how badly the persistence fixes will impact my playstyle. If anybody wants to play a game of "Let's see if we can crash a server" on experimental, let me know; I'll be trying to organize a group of people to gather up the requisite resources to break the first iteration of .60, before they can hastily push it to stable.

Player stats shouldn't show players killed

I think ^^^Miles ^^^ up there has the right idea. If somebody wants to show off their badass mass-murderer character, they are going to have to stop playing the game on that account, and just leave it there to look at those amazing numbers. We might actually see the player progression shift because of this; where the players who normally recycle the same gear in Cherno or Elektro until a server reset, might rack up a few kills and decide that they value their stats more than a few more cheap thrills. Will we actually see run-of-the-mill PvP players head inland and take a shot at survival, just so their kill stats won't go away the next time they YOLO it into a PD? Just so everyone is clear on this, there is absolutely nothing wrong with tweaking minor parameters of the game to see which direction it might shift the modal player behavior. Adding stats, omitting stats, and weighting different stats differently as they apply to an aggregate player ranking, can all be viable and interesting ways to see how modifying the included stat system might affect the value system of the people playing the game. Omitting a kill counter certainly won't remove KOS from the game, but weighting the statistics creatively might help to incentivise some of that complex, emergent gameplay that this sandbox is supposed to produce; so far, I've just seen lots and lots of the same old thing. It must be frustrating that whenever someone manages to make a tool by which people can creates something new and different, by the time the masses get ahold of it, it immediately becomes the hip new thing to draw penises with... Now that I've mentioned it, how are those stats columns to be formatted, again?

    update.60 Question

It's coming tomorrow people, you heard it from me first. (The previous statement in no way guarantees the arrival of .60 exp, during the month of February, and I have no basis for making any such claims; in the event that I was accidentally right, you heard it here first. :P)

    CLEanup

I consider DayZ to be the first multiplayer, persistent open-world, zombie apocalypse, survival game. I only played the first Dead Rising, and found it to be more of a time-management game, than an open-world survival game. State of decay comes close, but I learned that they have stopped development towards multiplayer capabilities. Is it still a portmanteau word, if half of it is an acronym?

    Vss Trade For M4

M4 and AK 101 were left out of the CLE this time around to try and identify any cheating players with the ability to insert items into the game. Any M4 you find in .59 is most definitely a shameful thing to have in ones possession.

Player stats shouldn't show players killed

I would like to see more weight given to activities not dealing with killing other players. That aspect of the game needs absolutely no help at this point; never has, never will. Perhaps time spent near other players would be a good statistic to prove the badassness of your character. Zombie killing assists would also be nice to see counted. Long life and high kill count could still be a pretty good indicator of success, but it leaves no room to brag for players who prefer a stealth approach. Long life, high kills and high mileage would also look better than someone who spawns in Cherno, runs to a stash outside Prig and camps a sniper position racking up kills. Stats are good, more stats would be nice. If it ever comes to the point where we have global, hive-wide leaderboards, a K/D ratio centric stat system would discourage some of the more unique, emergent gameplay that makes DayZ special.

    CLEanup

7 days is still a pretty short amount of time to have to interact with dozens of tents and barrels, which are widely distributed throughout the map. Hopefully they can find a more realistic balance, while still addressing clutter of abandoned sites. No worries, dude. It's still alpha. That means that we should be giving feedback. I made a point of it to try to understand and test persistence; to the point of discovering that vehicle wheels still have some issues that need to further exploring in .60, if they allow an iteration up long enough to get the required number of tires in the same spot to start causing problems. I got so preoccupied at collecting vehicles, that I never even bothered looking for much trouble this patch. Got so much helicopter loot while looking for tires, that I got bored and started fishing a bunch, to fill all the camps with food. Now that I go to YOLO it all away before the wipe, CLE has beaten me to it. lol And I was interested in going to the island, until new vehicles dropped in .59 exp.; still haven't made the trek. Hopefully our efforts will help to keep this game rods ahead of the imitators. Mostly made this thread as a PSA to other basebuilders, and a workaround to the feedback tracker being borked ATM. But still the loss is real. Real but negligible, as all of the more recent bases will be obsolete before the 90 day timer; and I also know to repack tents and barrels to see if it will extend the timer--still think this bit might be worthy of testing, but I forget when the oldest of the more recent bases was established. Yup, WIP. Still good to explore the mechanics and make issues known.

The Beanz U Luv <XXX> Forum Shock !

I don't know what to do anymore. I keep running across posts that I find to be worthy of beans, but I don't necessarily "like them," like them. I certainly don't feel like sending out Valentines. These are such confusing times...

In desperate need of .308 ammo

If you go out looking for .22LR ammo, you will find more than enough .308. If you go out looking for six pristine cans of tactical bacon, you will likely find just enough 308. If you go out looking specifically for .308, you will likely find none. Murphy is watching you.

Would like player count in new UI

Click on the tab that says "Players" and it will sort all of the full ones to the top, or all of the empty ones to the top with another click. Then you just have to check the top one to see if you got the full ones, of the empty ones up top. Works on History, Favorites, Friends, and Internet tabs.

    Cheatz

If you witness any duping behavior, please try your best to document it. If it is an unknown process, you may be able to help by submitting a bug report. In either case, kill the offending parties.
  12. I might be oversimplifying it, but an ELUA is a ubiquitous implicit contract included in every piece of commercial software . By using the software, you are agreeing to do so in a manner consistent with the expectations of the manufacturer, and license to use such software can be revoked at will. In the US, there is quite a bit of power held by those who make the products, but they generally don't have to enforce it often. Still it is fairly common for gaming accounts to be sanctioned, suspended or banned for disruptive behavior. The difference here, is that the public hive system is profoundly exploitable, and heavily exploited. I have never personally rented a server, but I would expect the rental agreement to include a copy of the Public Server Hosting Rules. The rules are published; it is not a matter of knowing what to do; it is not a matter of hammering out the terms; it is simply a matter of ensuring that GSP's are providing the service as specified in the server hosting rules. If a customer rents a public hive server and names it "High LOOT [MLG] Clan Only, Join=Kick" they should have their server reverted to default settings, all admin privileges suspended, and their payment retained; they should get a message stating exactly what they did wrong, a link to where that information was previously given to them, and a reminder that they may continue to rent their server, and that their admin privileges will be restored in four weeks. If after those four weeks, they still administer the server in a forbidden manner, they will receive another suspension of admin privileges. I'll have to concede that it comes down to Bohemia putting pressure on GSP's to only allow servers hosting DayZ in a compliant manner. There are dozens of instances of servers that are in clear violation of the rules. Correcting these will have negative consequences for whom? If BI and GSPs are afraid of losing customers who abuse the game, they are putting themselves at risk of liability for taking money for every copy of the game that they sold, having failed to act to provide public servers in a manner in which their own publications specify. This isn't an either-or situation. BI has specified the rules for hosting a public server. These rules have not been effectively enforced. I have heard that an integrated server reporting tool will be added into the game at some point. But the problem still persists, that the longer they allow this type of behavior, the more ingrained it will be. And if after Beta, this has still not been effectively dealt with, this will be an enormous public embarrassment. Public server renters need to be held accountable to the standards of the public hive system. If BI does not have this capability, they need to get it, and use it. If BI does have this capability, they need to use it sooner rather than later, to prevent the prevailing game culture from degrading any further.
  13. All it takes is a TOU/EULA. A document stating that by agreeing to rent a public hive server, you agree to operate the server in accordance with all the rules--provided to server renter at the time of transaction. Please do show me a law where it says that if a user breeches their service contract, that the service provider cannot legally cancel the service... Or better yet; simply revoke admin privileges. Problem solved.

Is anyone else concerned that the NewUI is a big step back?

I swore-off the newUI when I first tried it. The design aspect was nonexistent and the functionality was clunky. Now that I have been forced to use it to interact with vehicle easier, I cannot see myself going back to the old UI. I actually like having to rely on the text ticker for all of my status updates; it's kinda like ultra-hardcore mode. You actually have to think about how often you are eating or drinking, rather than just looking at a colored bar to tell you if you need food and water.

Kicking from Vilayer server IS ALLOWED.

I don't care how big those companies are. I only care that they are doing their due-diligence to properly administer the services that they were paid to provide, in a manner consistent with their agreements with BI. If they cannot afford to turn a profit without allowing rampant abuse of the server rental system, these companies simply should not continue to exist in such a manner. If their agreement does not include making sure that their paying clients are adhering to the published server hosting rules, we need to forcefully lobby BI to include this in their contracts. If their agreement does include making sure that their paying clients are adhering to the server hosting rules, they are failing to perform the services that they were contracted to perform, and in the interest of their customer base, BI should discontinue their patronage of such companies until such a time as they can fully honor their agreements. It is not rocket science. A twelve-year-old has the capability to understand that something is not right about this. BI, and server hosting companies are both making money, while the paying customers are forced to navigate a server list full of prohibited names and behaviors.
  17. You must be "Dave." Greets. Help us make Bam's playhouse a more interesting place to set up shop. I'm not sure that BI has put ANY measurable effort into fixing the server abuse issues plaguing this game since before I started playing. My first and only ban was because I more-than-hinted at possible actions that could be taken by their disgruntled clientele, should they continue to fail in providing playable public servers for their MMO survival game. This is a serious issue, and they need to show some progress in fixing it. A simple TOU agreement, and monetary penalties for offending server-renters would all-but-eliminate this issue overnight. Given how seemingly simple it would be to solve this issue, I can only assume the BI is content with their playerbase becoming increasingly more habituated to abusive and exploitative strategies. It would be a tremendous boost to consumer confidence if they made any sort of perceivable effort to appear to give a shit about how their game is played.

What is your honest opinion on the future of DayZ

Vehicles were recently added; with another layer of functional complexity. They were bugged as shit at first; now they are only kinda bugged as shit. FAL is new, powerful and cool, but lack of optics attachment ATM is kinda laming up the thing. Still a hell fun way to clear out Myshkino tents, but I wouldn't use it for anything dangerous. <~~Implies that zombies still aren't anything to write home about.
  19. I'm testing the re-spawn position distributions--a euphemism for " fucking up everything I touch". Also, I may have run across a few stranded vehicles, recovered them, and then Cold sent them back your way over the past few weeks; I only cried about it a little. PM me an inventory of vehicles known to you and your associates, and I'll see if I can free anything up/ locate any stragglers. I feel like a couple of the other server regulars might not be deserving of transportation...
  20. Names? I'm growing bored of destroying half of the vehicles on your server on a weekly basis.

    PVP zones

The helicopter corridor is the place that I've seen the few people I've had contact with lately. They're a cagey bunch along there. Unless your version of PvP is getting sniped or hosed from behind a tree, you can mostly expect no contact, instant deathscreen or leg breaking, or spotting and killing them first; pretty droll, IMO.

Error everytime I try to join a server

In your steam library list of games, right click on DayZ and select "properties" from the bottom of the drop-down. In the properties window, there is a tab over to the right, at the top of the window, that says "Betas." Go to the betas tab and click on the upper drop-down menu. Select either option, as the stable and experimental versions are now the same. If ti does not download immediately, just click back on DayZ in your steam library, and start the update.

    New Renderer

Most of the people who are upset that they are having trouble trying to PLAY the game are de facto morons, or illiterate. I read the warning, I understand the warning. I try go and PLAY the game occasionally; if by that you mean trying to shoot anything that moves in a big city or military area. The rest of the time I am focusing on trying to break persistence, or make vehicles do unusual things. You should expect nothing but a work-in-progress test platform for the concepts that will eventually come together to make DayZ Standalone. If you expect anything else at this time, YOU ARE WRONG!
