Enfusion Q&A with Lead Engine Programmer Filip Doksanský
emuthreat replied to SMoss's topic in News & Announcements
Good morning, and thank you for the opportunity to learn more about the future of DayZ. Firstly, how much "headspace" are you planning on leaving for modding/post 1.0 design additions; 20%, 50%, perhaps? Will the game be just barely capable of meeting the release goals, or will it have plenty of room to grow? Trains: Chernarus has lots of them, and the tracks go around 3/4 of the map. Will they ever be operable? Is the engine even set up in a way that would allow for the switching of tracks and loading large items into the boxcars? Similarly, will the portside gantry cranes ever be usable; perhaps for loading shipping containers onto a flatbed truck? Modifying the existing environment and structures: Along with barricading the existing buildings, what kind of ways will players have to leave their mark on the map? For instance, will spray paint ever be used for such obvious purposes as leaving messages for travelers, or marking-out turf? If fences, picnic tables and roadway signs will eventually be destructible, will there be any way to move them more subtly, such as swapping road signs to disorient other players, or moving the tables to an ad-hoc campsite? Vehicles, Hauling, Towing and Recovery: Will there be any considerations made for more complex vehicle interactions? Would it ever be possible to attach a chain to the back of a vehicle, and affix it to other movable objects? Would a daisy-chain of dumpsters and tables dragging behind a vehicle just have too much demand on the system to be possible? -
Nice link, Mookie. I've never seen such a clean table of heat stats.

I will leave a note, explaining what I took (usually among the most valuable items, just to get their attention). I'll keep checking back to see if they have noticed yet, and after three days, I will begin moving everything from their camp to a new one that I would establish a short distance away; leaving their camp full of nothing but food.

You have to empty-out the pockets before you can wring the clothes out. Makes sense, right? And even then, wrung-out clothes will only reduce wetness by one grade from each wringing, and will only wring-out down to damp status. Just as in real life survival situations, you have to get out of your wet clothes to dry your body off and start warming up faster. Laying them out near the fire, as opposed to stuffing the wet clothes into your soaking wet backpack, will ensure that your clothes are warm and dry when you are ready to put them back on.
-
I know I'm a little late, but here it is. Taking off your clothing and letting it completely dry out on the ground next to the fire is crucial to getting you temperature back up. Only while all of your wet clothing is off, will your body actually dry out so you can warm up again. I've known people to put their damp clothes in their soaking wet backpack while they sit by the fire and dry off, and then immediately put the wet clothes back on. You have to set the clothing individually, near the fire, and they will dry off. Take off your clothes, dry your body, and get warm, once clothing is fully dry, you can put it back on again, and you will warm up faster.

If you need a place to store some things, just let me know which region, and I'll make sure to drop off a barrel. I'm not working this weekend, so I can drop you a barrel or tent anywhere that would be convenient for you. There are also a couple tents already laying about, that you could drop a couple things in. Just PM me a general area... -
PC no longer good enough to run Dayz. What upgrades could I buy to play again?
emuthreat replied to nufc1985's topic in General Discussion
You aren't going to get anything for that socket that will run at anywhere close 3.0 GHz at stock speeds. Keep your eye on the board/cpu bundles, and you can get an FX-series combo for under $250, or an i5 combo for closer to $300. If money is that big of an issue, that you would consider buying another AM2+ socket processor, then maybe a cheap AMD package would best suit your needs. I have a GA 990 FXA-UD3 and a Phenom II x6 1100T that are still suitable for my needs, though I do plan on upgrading to the FX series later this year, to squeeze out a bit more life from the board I already have. Intel ain't cheap. -
Well that escalated quickly...

I think a lot of it has to do with running, or sprinting. I notice that heating up happens much more quickly while sprinting, as it should. I normally run around in my underwear, only putting on my pants and jacket when getting wet and sitting a moment to cool back down, or when I need the storage or camouflage when entering a new area. Things I do while cooling off: Farming, fishing, eating, tabbing out. Usually in that order...

*Less than ten. I started playing on .51, and there were bayonets then. I suspect the new player controller might make so it is not a waste of time to add animations for their use.

Okay, here comes the counter-intuitive part: Try turning your settings UP, and then start dialing it back from there. Putting the graphics settings on low just dumps the workload back onto your ailing CPU, instead of properly utilizing your new card. Play with the settings and .cfg file until you get it just right, and then set it to read-only. I don't know if it is still reverting all the settings to default upon restarting the game, but that is why I, and many others, went read-only a week into the experimental phase. Good luck. -
What is stopping the devs from upping the difficulty?
emuthreat replied to Capo393's topic in General Discussion
Like I said, I'd love to see them turn off the packaged food spawns. Unfortunately I think that the CLE is still a bit rough around the edges, and it would be unlikely that they could get the titration just right at this time. That's why I think just taking food out of the tables would be the way to for now, just to see if the community could bear it. The most recent CLE update that I know of, was to fix the abundance of .308 rounds in Vavilovo. It fixed it, allright. Vavilovo now spawns nothing but down jackets. That's kinda my point, that the CLE tuning still seems very imprecise. They'll get there eventually, but for now, it is still looking pretty slapshod. -

Yes. I started reading the beginning of this thread today, and noticed two things. You are nearing the end of the utility of an AM2+ socket, so maybe a new board is in your future in the next couple years. But the card definitely needs the first attention, just to get the game running again. I bought a 960 a year ago, and it has worked out just fine for me, for the price. My only regret is that it fell just beneath the capability threshold for VR, so I will have to upgrade again, sooner than I thought. 970 is the cheapest VR-ready option, but the 980/TI, or 10-series have some decent choices if you can find the right price. If you are buying new, do everything possible to not buy anything too obsolete, as I think I did with the 960. Don't get a 60 series -

You gotta be kidding me, right? The CLE is still in its infancy. They can tweak the loot settings, but I would say they are a far cry from having independent control of what spawns, where, and in what quantities. Have you noticed the towns with 200 down jackets, and not much else? Or the houses that spawn piles of identical shotguns? They have said time and time again, that food spawns will eventually be a sliver of what they now are, but I seriously doubt they have the capability to correctly balance it at this time. Personally, I think they should just take out all packaged foods for a few weeks, to see how it goes over. Won't bug me a bit... Edit: braggs -
On a related note: would anybody like to try guessing how many jelly beans are in this jar?

Much welcomed change of scenery, there... As it stands, the Chernarussian forest floors are better manicured than the landscaping around most North American suburban banks. It does, however, explain the dearth of small animal life on the forest floors.

Need some assistance Hyperthermia again :(
emuthreat replied to sneakydude's topic in General Discussion
It appears to me that your Hyperthermia got all of the help it needed. Hypo = under Hyper = over Thermic = relating to temperature Mix and match until you get the correct word for your condition. Have you tried keeping your pants and jacket inside your backpack as you travel long distances? -
I had this issue last night on a 1pp server, haven't gone back to home server to test it yet. I was getting no feedback when trying to pitch the tent at all; and when I came upon already pitched tents, the entire inside was blowing up with prompts to pack the tents, but I could never get them to pack. I'll have to try again under different circumstances to determine if it was a server-related issue, or if it was related to a persistence hotfix.

What location comes to mind when you think of DayZ?
emuthreat replied to Tatanko's topic in General Discussion
I have probably spent the most time in that strip of land from around Mogilevka, up through the Sobors, to the base of devil's castle. I live right in the middle of the map, I guess. If they put boats in this game, I' would definitely go through the trouble of hauling one to Prud pond, so I can float around fishing and drinking Kvass all day. -
This persistence confusion has happened many times in the past, I would not take anything said about persistence at face value. It seems to me that both barrels and tents are on the 45-day timer, as I have stashed and forgotten a few barrels that should have been despawned--though I suppose it is possible that someone else found my empty barrel and fiddled with the inventory a couple times. Until someone conclusively proves different, I am operating on the assumption that barrels, tents, and protector cases are persistent for 45 days after being placed by a player. Please, somebody, prove me wrong. I want persistence working properly as much as anybody.

I'm a survivalist, and I do agree that it's too easy to find can goods, ammo and weapons right now. Still way too easy in my opinion. The fish trap made with netting and wire will most definitely catch you carp from any inland pond or stream. Half of the time, it will even catch you two. I no longer have any interest in the fishing rods, for reasons mentioned below. I noticed this right away, and thought it was some kind of bug. But it appears to be a ham-fisted attempt at balancing something that needed no balancing. I filled a whole barrel with fish and cleaned them all, hoping maybe that it was some kind of early soft skill. What I learned instead was that a stone knife (p) will only give you 90%-100% cuts for the first few uses; steel knives are even less consistent, as you never know which degree of pristine they are. A carp yielding only one filet? FFS, How? I've done a hack job on my first fish of the season before, but this is ridiculous... On an interesting side note, I discovered this week that the combat knife has a can opener buff, whereas even a damaged combat knife will open any condition of can with 95%-100% efficiency. I'll try to test the hunting, steak, and kitchen knives for different purposes, and see if a similar specialized task is best suited to each knife.

The best you can do is plan your course carefully and try to avoid going up hills until you have gotten plenty of momentum. Make sure to rotate the tires, especially if any of them look clipped into the ground, even the slightest amount. Other than that, it is just weirdly under-powered, and you have to deal with it by conserving momentum.

Those tents have been there for over 3 weeks like that. They randomly reoriented themselves and are unable to be packed. Also, its a higher traffic area up there now because of Tisy base; especially in the area where you found those tents. -
OVERHEATING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
emuthreat replied to wampa's topic in General Discussion
The smersh setup is nice, but I am somewhat supeerstitious about it. I never seem to survive more than 12 in-game hours while wearing one around the map. The only drawback to my penchant for the woodland camo, is that I have to farm two cycles to fully cool off. No biggie... -
I have had a few friends complain recently of getting random trips back to the coast, but we suspect it had something to do with rejoining too soon after a restart. I usually get a memory error when closing the game, if I play for longer than three hours. I have had numerous problem with military tents being very hard to pack, but this one was just sitting there in the hallway of the shower barracks. I don't know what happened, I never had my backpack slot go transparent and unresponsive like bugged hands or other inventory slots can. This was all new to me.
