I think you should have left that burn on the heat a bit longer... But seriously though, your suggestion has a major pitfall relating to overall character size. It's called "Odd Jobbing." Some players already prefer female avatars for this slight advantage. Smaller player, smaller target, largely abused. Hopefully soft skills and character lifetime will see some of your hopes fleshed-out in this area. If I sit around in a well-stocked camp, farming, cooking and organizing loot, I would expect get a nice paunch to show for it.

That is all.

CLE: easier to get m4/mags than civilian weapons (now with expanded feedback)
emuthreat replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
Not necessarily a persistence wipe, but when the 45 day timer for tents cleaned up a lot of unsuspecting players' camps, it looked a whole lot like they got dumped straight back into the spawn tables. I all-but-confirmed this on .59 when I noticed that guns were getting scarce, and switched from helicopter hunting to tracking down player camps on my home server. It was almost a 1-1 ratio of my perception of rarity of certain guns, to the amounts of each type that I found in other peoples' camps. We had it so locked-down at one point, that when I auto-ran off the rocks north of Pusta, a friend recovered my FAL and FNX from the next helicopter he found, about a half hour after I died. After weeks of very aggressive heli-hunting, we hadn't seen either gun spawn at a helicrash on that server for over a week, checking more than ten per day on average. -
At risk of sounding pedantic (which the mere use of that word handily achieves) I'd like to point out that the back of the hand is displayed, where the peace sign traditionally has had the palm facing outward, which may cause confusion. While this gesture is consistent with the vulgar gesture living on as a remnant of taunts made by longbowmen, from whom the draw fingers were commonly amputated when captured, that said "I've still got mine;" in non-Commonwealth countries it has a much more casual tone. American usage commonly relates this gesture to "peacing out;" meaning to leave an area or gathering. But it has taken on an almost meaningless presence when used as a pose for a photograph; much like the ubiquitous usage of the palm-out version by Eastern Asian cultures, especially by females, when being photographed. The prevalence of the more relaxed "peace" gesture with an inward facing palm can be traced to cultural appropriation and the imperfect mimicry of urban street gang signs, which became "hip" in the '90s. There, I ruined it for everyone. Are you happy now? : P

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_gestures Lots of good information for you here. It would help to explain many situations where cultural differences affect the meaning of things. For instance, "bunny ears" might get you some strange looks and giggles in Spain or Italy, or a swift fist to the jaw, depending on the context. *I used the internet to find this information.

I would like to see more harvestable natural resources; things like grains for making flour or oatmeal, seeds like mustard or peppercorns for seasonings, herbs for both food and medicine (cannabis, yarrow,) natural sources of cordage. Guts should make adequate fishing bait. I should be able to make a hoagie, drink home brewed beer and smoke homegrown medicine ate the end of my in-game day to regain health and improve morale. A morale system, by which having no negative status afflictions will increase the overall health cap, and furthermore could be increased by various creature comforts such as those mentioned above. This would give players an incentive to actually play the game, rather than recycling half-dead corpses on the coast all day. The ability to dig-in, set up a camp, collect various resources, and produce certain goods that will give character buffs--that can only be gotten the hard way--will add much-needed layers to this game. So what if I have 10 times the health of a freshspawn? I worked hard for it, dammit! WORKING VEHICLES. @NickNasty6 So basically what you want is a class system, rouges, warriors, and tanks. Gee, sounds great /s

CLE: easier to get m4/mags than civilian weapons (now with expanded feedback)
emuthreat replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
We've been told over and over that tent and barrel inventory does not count towards the CLE min/max. However, experience consistently seems to disprove this. Anybody who has made a home on a particular server can begin to see the patterns within a week. If someone were malicious enough to go and find a camp and promptly dump the contents on the ground, they would notice a conspicuous uptick in the spawn rates of the specific items that they had just scuttled. If this is the case, then duping is responsible for making those rarer guns functionally non-existent for people who go about procuring them from their natural habitat, rather than stripping them from dishonorable cadavers. Good thing nobody else likes the WIP FAL anymore. -

Crap, sorry. I meant to shout out back to Killawife, but my brain confused your avatars at a glance because of black and white negative space usage. I typed in your name by mistake, and I totally missed it. My bad. I agree on the rarity of top tier guns. Even though I just found a FAL at Myshkino, it will take a few hours to get it fed and loaded. -
Are you buying the laptop for school purposes as well, and need the portability, or perhaps do not have room for a desktop. I do play with a few people who use laptops on occasion, and I recall hearing them frequently curse the hardware. If there is any way you can swing your budget into a comparable desktop, you would have much more flexibility for improving your experience in the future. If you can wait until "Cyber Monday" in the US, Nov 28, online retailers will have many remarkable sales on computer components.

CLE: easier to get m4/mags than civilian weapons (now with expanded feedback)

@Bororm I liked it when those houses with the blue shutters on the windows had more specific spawns. The one-room shack that many people referred to as "grandpa's shack" made sense always having a rifle or shotgun near the bed, and the larger similarly colored house, dubbed "Grandma's house" always had food in the kitchen. It works. @Killawife There is something that can be done about fresh spawns making a beeline for Myshkino. More geared players can cut their journey short, and encourage them to plan a more careful journey next time. -
It may indeed be a false assumption. I was only sharing what I know, which isn't much. I switched off Read-only on my .cfg and tried to adjust the slider, and nothing happened. Perhaps @Hicks_206 (DayZ) can shed some light on this subject, as I remember previous discussion of this to be mostly speculation with no authoritative answers from the dev team.

Yes @Mookie (original) the 45 day decay timer is only reset went the tent is packed up and re-pitched. This was the main reason my core group abandoned .60 earlier this year, it was just too much stuff to move, and didn't seem worth it with vehicles broken. I recommend getting a new military tent and an extra mountain backpack to hold in your hands, and you can make pretty short work of resetting a relatively small camp. If you keep the empty backpack on your back, you can just double-click all the items, put full bag in hands, and repeat. It saves a lot of time.
-
Yeah, the cfg. issue was a pretty big problem in .60 exp. Everybody I know pretty much did the 1:1 fix and marked as read-only. My point was that in the GUI is fixed at 100%, and the bar is full at 100%. That gave me the impression that it was a change in design decision. Otherwise, we'd see a half-full bar that said 100%
-
What do you mean that barrels despawn after 8 without being reset? I thought they were configured to refresh the decay timer anytime you interacted with the inventory. Are you sure you didn't just forget to interact with it?
-
Is this still a thing? I just checked on it, and my bar is maxed out at 100%

Your enthusiasm level is over 9000. I can barely wait for this new (meager) patch to come out; can't even fathom new particle effects right now, let alone soft skills. It's too soon. Still haven't seen a herd of sheep to date, only solitary ones. I hope the new Infected spawn mechanics leave room to include provisions for predator and prey behavior. Boars, goats, sheep, and foxes need to come back. Hopefully with the work we'll see with the wolves, it will eventually mean we can chase a fox off a fresh chicken kill for some easy pickins; that is, if they don't decide to take away half of the meat from the already weak-sauce chickens this patch, like they did with the fish. All this new shit is cool to think about, but I'm just waiting for the new tech, and enjoying the game as it is in each iteration. I'm sure .61 will be tons of fun, IF they fix vehicles... .60 was BS in that respect.

WOW, Lucky I found that heatpack, said no one ever
emuthreat replied to siresteelhell's topic in General Discussion
Heatpacks are very useful to survivalist players who prefer to get their character to full health status and a maximum energy surplus. Fishing, for example, can be an activity that would benefit from heatpacks. Just the other day, I was forced to move camps to a different server, and in the process, I ate all of my food reserves, got drenched by rain, and didn't generate enough heat from body movement to keep my core temperature up. I nearly starved to death; all from server hopping my loot stashes for an hour, running another half hour and server hopping my other camp for 45 minutes. I hadn't been imperiled from severe hunger or thirst for months, and It was actually quite refreshing to have to rely on a few apples to get myself to a place where I could warm up, fish for food, and get back healthy again. With the apparent changes coming in .61, I think heat packs will again become as useful as they were in .58 or .59. .60 was a hot summer; I ran around in my underpants, a cowboy hat, and a Hi-cap for most of the time to avoid overheating. I don't think I'll enjoy the same freedom in .61. -
It's not like they are developing a new game using an existing engine, as most titles do. They took an existing game that was already released to the public, and decided to build a completely new engine for it, and integrate it into the game in phases. So instead of building a new house from the ground up, this is like taking an existing single story house, lifting it up and digging out a basement, pouring a new foundation, and adding a second story. Of course it is going to take longer, and there is no point in re-roofing it before the second story is added. Also, there's this post by Hicks, right from this thread, which explains it much better than my convoluted analogies ever could.

Thanks @Hicks_206 (DayZ). This was a great explanation of the reasons for implementing the major changes in large chunks, rather than piecemeal as individual assets are completed. So many people seem to have major issues with the frequency of updates, and just can't seem to understand that what they are asking would require massive amounts of features being reworked to agree with each other, each and every time any related technology is changed. Your explanation was very specific in the second paragraph, regarding why putting things in one at a time would increase the total workload at an unreasonable rate. You should sticky that post, or be prepared to have it copypasta'd numerous times in the coming months.

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?

Not sure about rodeos, but I hear there is a lovely scythe competition each year in Goricko, Slovenia. -
Okay, so first I'll address your sound issue. Make sure your change your default playback device BEFORE you launch the game. I occasionally forget to switch from speakers to headset, and I have to restart my game and make the switch again while it is not running. I also discovered a strange unconsciousness bug a couple days ago. I was meeting up with a friend who usually does pew-pew on the coast or at NWAF and he got lost on the way to ZG. Long story short, I found him passed out from starvation under the apple trees west of the transformer station. I force fed him a few apples, gave a bag of *generic* blood and performed CPR, at which point he stood up, so I ran off to check a helicrash. After a couple minutes, he asked me if it was working, and I'm like WTF, dude, I just revived you. So I go back to find him standing up, but he said he still has black screen. So I do another round of CPR and he collapses. Pick and feed a few more apples, one more round of CPR and he's dead. Thanks Obama...

Anyone else felt/noticed that their content gets automatically deleted on reddit?
emuthreat replied to zombieland78's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't really call it inane; concise, perhaps a bit terse, but it was accurate and in good faith. Didn't mean to offend you. Hell, I even asked for more information. I learned nothing new about your perdicament. If you want to try posting your topic here, that you couldn't get to work on reddit, people here might be interested in that discussion. How about giving that a go. -

This is not reddit. Why do you think anyone here can fix it? -

The red and blue canvas pants area good start. I wore some around the other day because I thought they looked like part of a clown costume. Or at least a rodeo clown costume... -
Sounds like we are getting closer. I'm Cautiously OptimisticTM that the next status report will be about what a hit .61 exp has been. Here's to hoping that we can all help to severely break the new server browser in short order.
