    hypothermia deaths

If it is raining when you spawn, just take off your pants, and hold them in your hands. That way, you will be wicking heat away from your body only half as quickly, while you search for a raincoat. Making it to an industrial area or castle by sprinting pantsless, is a good move. You can often search for stones in some of the shelters at these places. Even a tree, just a good tree, is enough to shelter you from the rain while you make a fire. Taking off your clothes by a fire, allows your body to dry off immediately, much like in a real survival situation. It's really simple: cold, wet clothing=death. If your clothes are wet, you are better off without them for the short term. Saves my life every time.

Are you concerned about Steam reviews?

The phrase "caveat emptor" comes to mind in this situation. I hate that I always comes back to claims of alpha and The Disclaimer, because that's just begging the question of why an alpha can take just so damn long? I don't think the engine change was part of the initial vision before EA, and it's taken much longer than anticipated. I jumped in at .51 because I foolishly thought that to mean half done. : ) But it's really just the new engine being built and integrated on the fly that is taking so long and frustrating people with content vacillations, and broken features. People Don't Understand. Many of those same people then generate massive amounts of shitpost, which contributes to informing new players, and we get a feedback cycle of misunderstanding and frustration. It just takes what it takes, is all. In this case it's taken much longer, but is still nearing completion. I don't think much will change in the steam reviews until well into beta. I wonder what beta will then be called when BI continues to add content and make engine tweaks for years after 1.0?

from fun to pretty much unplayable

This is a classic case of Git Guud. DayZ, as you have known and played it before, was just a hollow shell of what it was to eventually become. Survival was easy, so easy in fact, as to have been totally ignored by a large majority of players. I know a few predominantly PvP players who were glad to have me around this patch, for all the survival skills and general game mechanics knowledge that I have accumulated by trying to do everything as it available in the game, no matter how mundane. They can still shoot people just as well as ever, which is okay for me too, I guess. Now people don't really mind that I am always asking for gas cookstoves, and breaking the tactical silence to stock up on fresh meat. It is not going to get any easier as the game progresses. So you might want to consider finding a new game to play, or a willing mentor who has experience in more things than ADS.

    DayZ Soft Skills Alternative Plan?

This is garbage thinking. Encouraging the Devs to cut out entire systems, just to call it finished sooner, is a complete non-start. I can't believe you would think that is an acceptable solution.

    Status Report, RE: soft skills

I am more concerned that they should add all the capability for a complex system, just so it is there for players to work with it if they choose. It is easier to take away than to add, so having a comprehensive skill system fully fleshed-out would be a good thing for 1.0.

    Wardrobes no longer lootable?

I get nothing from the refrigerators I have seen recently.

    Returning player after 1 year

This is the post that the server message keeps spamming. People were having trouble understanding that any tree will do just fine for lighting a fire in the rain, so Hicks was nice enough to provide some screenshots of some buildings that you can light a fire inside. Most household fireplaces are bugged, ATM. Welcome back, and remember to avoid the western and northern edges of the map, as well as the areas from around altar and to the north, until you have a shotgun and at least 10 shells, or something else you feel confident using to fight off the wolves.

Yes, and a chef who tries to avoid putting people off with too much spice or complexity, will produce a bland product that pleases nobody.

    DayZ Soft Skills Alternative Plan?

I don't really like the idea of decay, that's what bullets are for. All it does is punish players for IRL time not being used to grind maintain skills. It would make much more sense if decay was related to in-server time for each character. It would be better altogether, I think, if death was the only way to reduce learned skill advantages.

    DayZ Soft Skills Alternative Plan?

I see some good, and some bad points to this OP. The bad things involve combat skills. This should NEVER be a thing. The Devs have stated before that soft skills should absolutely never affect player to player combat. So things like faster reloading, reduced sway, increased ADS speed, ala Call of Duty will not be a part of the skill system. Also on the bad side of things is the skill decay, as it is pretty unrealistic. IRL, of you are out of practice, you will not lose all of your aggregated knowledge and experience, but rather might have to practice a little bit, to get back to where you left off. It's been almost twenty years since I touched a saxophone, but I guarantee you that I will get back to my level of proficiency with a saxophone, long before I could learn the trombone a with similar level of competence. Experience doesn't just go away. Knocking the dust off should be all that is ever required in this sense. Along the better side of these suggestions comes the daily caps on grindability, and the law of diminishing returns. In essence, soft skills should make all non-combat aspects of the game faster, easier, and generate consistently better results for the players who have managed to survive long enough, put in the time to practice those skills, and have had the materials to expend in the course of gaining the experience. A big part of this soft skill concept that some people seem to overlook is the permadeath of characters. Grinding will be automatically balanced by my ability to put a bullet into the back of someone too preoccupied with grinding a skill, to look after their own safety. Making soft skills slightly OP for those who have managed to max them out is going to hurt nobody, only help the player who invested the time and played carefully enough to do so.

    Wardrobes no longer lootable?

As in sitting there, and can be interacted with? This hasn't been a thing for a few months. I was asking about workable in the sense that a player might have to somehow repair or activate the fridge.

    Wardrobes no longer lootable?

What do you mean by workable, @sneakydude?

    Wardrobes no longer lootable?

I think they implemented those to test world containers; same with the minsk refrigerators. My guess is that they were disabled to spare some server resources.

Ridiculous, no change summary list available.

Have you tried google? I found a few community-created lists with VERY little effort. I do recognize that this information is not communicated to the public by the developers. Personally, I think it is just the "personality" of this game; they want us to explore and find things out for ourselves. It didn't come with an instruction manual, and I don't expect to see one upon release. There aren't any flare guns spawning in this patch, or brooms, or bananas; and probably a few other things that I missed. Flare guns might be out pending configuration of dynamic shadows, for all I know. But I can't see why brooms and bananas are out. Kiwis, however, are back in the game as the loot consistently dropped by Dean Hall infected. Your guess is as good as mine, as to why they don't always do official changelogs.

    ISSUE WITH WOLVES!!! MUST READ!!!!

How about you try actually playing the game, and accepting the challenge, instead of logging out when there is a threat? Let's just assume that they chewed through the door and came in to kill and eat you, because you chose the wrong time for your toon to take a nap. Perhaps it is a bug that they can pass through closed doors, but people also report dying from combat logging to AI (<---ROFFL) after climbing up a ladder. Did you ever consider the possibility that dying while combat logging to AI is a design decision, rather than a bug. I mean, you are pretty-much cheating the game by logging out and waiting for the big bad wolves to go away. I have died to wolves a few times, myself, but never through cowardice. I did manage to learn not to go into certain areas without adequate guns and ammo to fight my way out of a wolf encounter. Would you like to see my tent full of wolf steaks? I have free food literally throwing itself at me lately : ) Here's a few tips: If you carry around a mil tent, you can deploy it and the wolves will occasionally pass through the door, one at a time, so you can take a stab at killing them with melee weapons. Similarly, if you go into a house or shed, they can also sometimes manage to get through the door, one by one; so you can deal with them with less pressure. If you run a figure-8 pattern out in the open by yourself, it makes it harder for the wolves to to hit you, and they will also tend to cluster-up a bit more so you can get more bullets on target in the stressful confusion. Shotguns kill the wolves with hilariously little effort required on your part. And most importantly, ALWAYS WEAR ADEQUATE HEAD PROTECTION; crafted leather hat is the best.

    About persistence and world containers

I've been building a camp on an Experimental server with a few people since Vehicles were added on Dec 23. The camp is still there, and growing. Persistence seems fine, on Exp, at least.

    Status Report, RE: soft skills

The same types of players will always log to keep their progress, be it gear, position on the map, or whatever soft skills turn out to be. i could make a similar argument that the SAW shouldn't be added to the game, because people with that gun will combat log to avoid losing it.

    Unable To Skin Elk?

If they are running while you make the kill shot, they will appear to drop just a meter or two of where their actual position lies. If you re-log, you will see their actual position. I can usually get it to work by crouching with a knife in hands, looking at the animal's chin, and slowly backing away until I get the prompt to skin.

    Flare gun.

    Are these guns still available?

Mosin is pretty common near the coast. It really shouldn't be hard to find one of those.

    Is this bannable?

Just keep the IZurvive contour map open on a second monitor, tablet, or smartphone. It's really not that hard to know where you are, if you pay attention. I use the Pleiades as a guide to tell me my orientation and time of night, by judging the distance from the horizon and orientation relative to the horizon. It works pretty well, considering the problems with stars and looking up ATM.

got held up by 2 geared guys

Great story. It is so rare that people actually try to talk, and much less, comply with the people trying to be reasonable. Props to you for going along with it and coming out unscathed.

    Status Report, RE: soft skills

Combat logging will always be a thing that people with no honor will do. No use avoiding game elements because of cowardice of the meek. Had a guy combat log just today, after he told @Thurman Merman his name, and it just happened to be the same one that KOS'd BioHaze the other day. The experimental servers have been super low pop lately, so besides ruining all the vehicles on the map, we have been feuding with the other locals. Maybe @Hicks_206 (DayZ) Should add a new machine gun to the Experimental Branch so people will actually play it. For now they seem preoccupied with stockpiling loot that will most likely be wiped when the vehicle patch goes stable. Haven't had any more that 15 people on SC 0-2 at any one time, so far.
