    Try the West, then.

    Wolves

Wolves are manageable. If you are out in the open, you have to take the offensive, or you will get hurt badly within 15 seconds of first bite. Run figure-8 pattern around them, and make sure to follow up your hits for the kill, rather than putting two pistol rounds into 6 different wolves and not killing even one. Shotgun is OP. *Lupara*

    Fish FIllet's Incorrectly Labeled

Yeah man, getting only one filet from a whole carp was a pretty big bump on the head for the survivalist playstyle. ; ) It made fishing not worth the time, to only keep one filet. Once we had a few brushes with the wolves, it became pretty clear that fishing was not the way to go anymore. Now we have to fight wolves all through the northern woods, just to get enough bullets to kill whole herds of cows so we can keep enough product on hand. Something's gotta give.

    [Suggestion] for manual server restarts

Most decent admins will just post a friendly message warning players ahead of time if they need to restart for some reason. The need for a warning, and the delay, implies abuse. I agree with the suggestion. I also agree that there are unenforced server hosting terms that should prevent the need for such changes. (but nobody asked me about that)

    Fish FIllet's Incorrectly Labeled

Two people can't fish anywhere on the whole map, with a rod and line, at the same time, @zin0. I tested it again, a couple of weeks ago, with IMT. He was at Black Lake, and I was in Gvozdno. We could take turns fishing, but if we both had a line in the water, checking the bait would cause the player to move and pull the bait out of the water.

    Fish FIllet's Incorrectly Labeled

I'm just glad that carp are yielding two filets again. I got pretty tired of Hicks taking away half of everything I produced. I guess i have The Donald to thank for this populist win. Have you tried fishing with a friend? I notice it still fails every time two people try to fish anywhere on the map at the same time.

Crossbows are all over the place, on experimental, at least.

    [Suggestion] for manual server restarts

Are you trying to roundabout report that server admin abuses are still a thing? OMG, Whoda thunkitt?!? Wait for all the "I paid for it, and I should be able to do anything I want with it" arguments to come rolling in. But yeah dude, I get ya. I've spent a few hours getting geared-up on private servers before, only to have the server mysteriously restart after a squadwipe. Almost as if the admins got salty and flipped over the checkerboard... Just don't play with big babies. Problem solved.

    Why I've stopped

The quicker we can get vehicles sorted out on Experimental, the sooner stable will work as it should. Come help. Quit bitching. Learn to play....

    dayz standalone single player mode

There's no point in releasing the single player version, along with server files, until the game is feature-complete. Would you make prints of a painting before it was finished drying, or copies of a movie before it was finished filming?
  11. Nice post about the evolving nature of the game, and what that means for player behavior. The line in the sand is really a good metaphor for this subject, as players seem to take different approaches to what is acceptable and how the game is played. I believe that alpha has a lot to do with some people's justification of using janky tactics, or making their lives easier by exploiting certain unfinished game mechanics. It is just a given for most people to understand any exploit that directly enables someone to kill another player unfairly is not cool. Many people acknowledge this and continue to do so anyways, because if they don't someone else will just use it to kill them unfairly in the future; keeping up with the Joneses, in a sense. The apple trees are an on and off subject for me. Sometimes I prefer to completely abstain from apples or berries, and sometimes I'll grab a few and move a town or two inland from the coast; the latter probably being a holdover tradition from the bad ol' days geared players returning to the coast for some sure-thing thrill kills. It also seems like a moot point, now that they have a new system for apples in the works. Morally, it's not really an issue to use apples as a handy stopgap or some startup energy, but overuse seems to indicate a less "hardcore' mentality about the survival aspect. Whenever I loot a well-geared corpse with a whole lot of apples, I tend to think of the person as a hack. As the game progresses, and apple trees can no longer be abused in the same way, I suppose I'll still feel the same about apples, but maybe respect the time it took to find them a bit more with the new system implemented. The drinking mechanic doesn't really seem to be a problem, because of how drinking from a steady source works IRL, and how drinking in general is still running on placeholders. I do have a problem with casual bulimia being used as a way to nullify bad dietary choices preventing them from consuming enough to get fully hydrated and energized at the same time. But a lot of things are still very unfinished, and I have to trust that many of these issues can be easily addressed once new systems are in place. At this point, i think the game is still very much running on the honor system. It's just too bad that so few people seem to care. If you know what you are doing in .61, it is easy to get all the gear you want. Yet people still dupe. Some people will always take the easiest and cheapest way possible. As long as it is possible.

Does the Heart Attack mechanic still exist?

The defibrillator will kill a player with normal heart status if used on them, conscious or not. It will revive a player knocked out by a STUN BATON, as well as restore a regular heartbeat. Stun batons cause an irregular heartbeat if you use it to knock someone out; check the player's pulse after stunning them. I have not tested what this does to a weak pulse. It will remove the irregular heartbeat status caused by hitting a player with a stun baton.

    Public servers killing the game?

Fuck the hackers/glithcers/dupers. Go to these servers and kill them. I'l be on Exp, trying to get vehicles figured out. They seem to be getting worse after a few weeks, for whatever that is worth. Also. Haxorglichticrapicus.

    Where is SMERSH spawning?

Keep checking helicrashes. We have been finding one or two a week on Experimental, between a group of 6-8 regular players.

    THE DAY Z SA stick!

Whose fault is it if a bunch of people watch youtube videos of a work in progress and misunderstand the scope of the project? I find it pretty ridiculous for you to assume that the actual release of the completed game will not bring new interest and increase player numbers. This alone is enough to completely disregard your opinions on the matter. A couple of long patch cycles take place, and all of the rats jump ship? Good riddance. Nobody cares. It is still easy enough to find a full server to play on. The finished game WILL attract new players. I'm really having trouble understanding why you might think that you have a valid concern...

    Character customization?

Short answer, yes. I don't know if there will be 40+ new models anytime soon. You question was answered by googling this phrase: "DayZ sa new character models"

    Spawns relocation question

The game had a clear vision from the time it was picked up as standalone. They did something different here, than what happens in most development processes. After a year or so into the process, they made the decision that the legacy engine would not be able to support their intended goals, and hence the Enfusion engine was born. Granted that I can't say it was a great thing for the community having development change engines mid-stream, it is what is happening. You are having trouble accepting that. It helps nobody by you lashing out about it here; it mostly just makes you look like a whiny jerk who can't learn to play. Seriously, if you want to spawn right nest to your friends, go play one of Bohemia's other games that let you do that. It makes no sense that you bitch about how wrong the game is going, now that it is well on the way to becoming what it was always intended to be.

    THE DAY Z SA stick!

Why are you acting like this is some kind of new thing brought about by the rabid zealotry of a few dedicated players. Most of us started playing because that's what we wanted in a game. They made it quite clear from the beginning, what kind of game this was supposed to be. Where did you get your impressions of what this game is supposed to be? You come off as if you went to a golf course to play football, and want them to flatten out the hills, remove the water hazards and sandtraps. It might be time to admit to yourself that you should have tried to get a little better understanding of the game before becoming so heavily invested. We all knew what kind of game this was being built to become. If you can't cope with the challenges, maybe it's time for you to leave, @Lexman61. It sure as hell ain't gonna get any easier from here on out, and especially not on your account.

    Spawns relocation question

What did you expect to happen when development slowed down to accommodate INTEGRATING A NEWLY DESIGNED ENGINE INTO AN EXISTING GAME HALFWAY THROUGH EARLY ACCESS. Of course the hype and sales will settle down during a long period between major patches. I'm starting to think that you are being disingenuous when you click that little button each time before playing; the one that says "I understand."

    Invisible and Invincible Zombies

They are under the ground, not invisible zombies. It's a new issue with this patch. Try running upstairs to avoid them. Aren't you glad you signed up to play a game while a new engine was being developed? @reyno It's pretty exciting. Usually all of this kind of work is done in private; it's normally unthinkable to release an unfinished game engine to the public. In this case, the game was available before they even decided to create a new engine to run it, so I guess there weren't too many options in that respect. I broke my legs today on Exp. getting out of the back of a bugged V3S after a crash. I laughed about it and made a splint, then ran 4km with ruined boots and 1700 blood, losing health all along the way. I'm still wearing moccasins because I haven't found new Military boots yet. The combat knife is in my vest; I hate it. Glad to see that you are enjoying yourself, and expressing it in a constructive manner. I can't wait until you get a chance to suck this terribly terribly at playing the finished product, and tell us all what you think about that.
  23. I'm not sure what you problem is. There is very little chance that anything they add to this game will ever detract from your ability to shoot other players, or mine either, for that matter. In the case that game mechanics are too difficult for you to cope, people will mod servers with everything turned off except for guns and vehicles, just for you. You can always turn off the features that make this game too hard for your specific need. We cannot as easily add features to the finished game, as modders can turn off the things that make it too difficult for players who are seeking a more basic experience. I actually like your idea of adding toothaches and personal hygiene to the game. Players who avoid the inconvenience of bathing will smell bad and animals will flee from them at a greater distance. No problem here, if all you ever want to hunt is players. Players who neglect their dental health for too long will have difficulty eating steaks and cereal, and cry out in pain when attempting to eat beyond their means to chew. Similar to how bone damage makes the player cry out randomly now. I doubt you would ever survive long enough for it to be an issue anyway, if all you want is 24/7 fast turnaround, action-packed PVP; so what does it fuckin' matter to you, anyways? Only time will tell how many of these type of things will be added to the game before 1.0. In the meantime do us all a big favor.

Just a few quick "yes or no" questions

One of the most important things you could share, is which server you are playing on. If you are on the Exp. server we are playing on, you won't find much; it's all in our tents. I'm going to be a bit of a heretic here, because cannon has been VERY clear on this point in the past, while the actual in-game experience has consistently been different. Hicks has made it abundantly clear that "Loot in player storage and player inventories do not count against the server totals." This is functionally false. I have talked to more than a dozen people about this, and everybody has the same experience. Once you hoover up all the good guns and stick them in your tents, they will not be spawning until someone dies with one. It is consistent to the point that if I kill myself while holding a FAL the hour before the server restart, and have friends looking at different military bases, there is a 90%+ chance that one of them will find a FAL This brings me to another point: Server Restarts. Server restarts will refresh the loot by adding new loot, but often the existing loot that you see before the restart will also remain. If there is lots of garbage loot at the location you are checking, you can stuff it into an extra backpack, and go dump it out in the woods a few hundred meters away. Not all server restarts will refresh the loot, sometimes it is just a crash; so you have to know your server reset times. You can look at the time acceleration in your server browser, but not the restart schedule; you will have to learn this by spending time on the server, or asking a server regular. All Experimental servers restart at 00:00 and 12:00 UTC. That is 4 am and 4 pm US pacific time, or 7 and 7 eastern US. Private servers on stable at this point, especially the full ones, will probably have a strong case of tent-induced hypolootosis. If you are regularly playing on the same server, and cannot find good loot at Tisy or Kamensk right after a restart, you must redirect your efforts to finding the player camp with all the loot inside. If you wanna be a massive dickface and throw it all off in the bushes to despawn, that will get the CLE spawning those items again--until they are found and packed away into tents again.

    THE DAY Z SA stick!

We are the electoral college. Trumped! HAHA While the forum is open to everybody, there is a certain inherent culture here that has been curated my the moderators and forum administrator. They really lean heavily towards constructive feedback, rather than vitriolic attacks. Most of the regular posters have been around long enough to know how things work. That's why you see us self-moderating this last year as the general population has dropped and never really fully recovered when the forum changed over; the long-stale .60 patch did not help with the waning interest. So I have to ask you, what are you here for? Are you here to start and/or participate in constructive discussions, or simply to attack the regulars until we start to be fairly certain which variety of bag you most resemble? And along those lines, what do you expect to get out of DayZ; a harsh, unforgiving, zombie apocalypse survival simulator, or ARMA III with the Enfusion engine? You consistently seem to be oblivious to the fact that people will still be able to run around and shoot each other with all the new weapons yet to be added as surely as the sun will rise each morning; regardless of what additional survival elements are added to the game. What is not certain, however, is that the game will be fully fleshed-out with advanced crafting and survival assets that will truly make this game stand apart from your basic shooter. So yes, in the interest of not seeing DayZ fall any further short of the goals initially presented to us as prospective buyers, we push for this content. I, for one, don't give a shit what all the people think who saw the stripped-down, bare-bones version of the game, and want to keep it that way as a simplistic shooter on a huge map. It reminds me of a toddler who would rather play with the box it came in, than the expensive toy he was given. You come off as if you have entered a bowling alley under construction, and played basketball there because the gutters and ball returns weren't installed yet; and now that things are progressing, you want them to stop construction because it interferes with the basketball game. And god-forbid they oil the floors. It was always going to be a bowling alley... This is the only bowling alley in town. There are basketball courts at all of the many existing parks. Who has more to lose in this situation? Who has other perfectly valid choices available?
