Why can't I tear rags with an axe?

You CAN tear rags with an ax. Well, at least I can. I suspect you might have been making a procedural error in your attempts to make rags, or that there was some other mitigating factor like poor server performance/bugged hands. I usually make rags with the ax on my back, by dragging clothing onto the ax. What type of clothing were you trying to cut into rags, if I may ask?
  2. Hoagie, Hero, Poor-Boy, Blimpie, Grinder, Torpedo, Submarine Sandwich; call it what you want. This game needs the ability to craft a delicious sandwich with all the fixin's; including dijon mustard. I'll even settle for a Dagwood, if french rolls are too much to ask...

    How to "Despawn" Ruined Vehicles?

A full persistence wipe will return vehicles to their spawn points. But even on a relatively quiet public server, our small group of dedicated players has destroyed an average of 3-5 vehicles per day. We estimate about 60% of vehicle deaths to be caused by desynch or client crashes, the rest being cause by "sweet jumps" and the general desire to wanna go fast. After Cold looked into the damage statistics, and we timed the strike rate, it seems that a fire ax is likely the most efficient way to destroy a vehicle. I don't know about your server @CeltS_Kavo, but most people would probably not enjoy rebuilding their camps on a weekly basis, because people are too lazy to recycle. It is also worth noting that @Pook (DayZ) had done destroyed the vehicle long before coming back with coffee. It really doesn't take too long...
  4. A few of us regulars from Helpy have migrated over to a server that ColdAtrophy rented a couple months ago. DayZ (Public/1pp/Crosshairs OFF) 66.55.158.186:2302

    Wolves

I nearly died to wolves today. I was trying to fight two of them at once, with an axe, in a confined area. Turns out, you need a little elbow room to circle them, or they will petty much lunge and hit you every two or three seconds. Thanks to Thurman, for shooting the last one and giving me a saline to regain consciousness. If you have wolf problems, use a shotgun. If you want wolf problems, use an ax.

    How to "Despawn" Ruined Vehicles?

Despawning vehicles is a lot of work right now. IMT already shared most of the relevant information about how this is done. I have always found the shotgun to be the most efficient gun to destroy vehicles, with Thurman's chainsaw plan taking the prize for overall efficiency and sustainability. Hopefully, there will be more options for repairing vehicles already in your possession. In the meantime, if you are feeling frustrated with a lack of vehicles on your server, I would be willing to help clean up a few here and there; for a price. Acceptable forms of payment include FAL magazines, VSS magazines; pristine shotshells, .308 rounds, or Sp-6 rounds, and any spools of metal wire you might have left over from earlier in this patch. Here's a nice little picture of IMT, ColdAtrophy, and me killing a sedan that was hanging by a thread before Hell parked it up on a platform.
  7. You make a good case for the need to find a better solution.

    Auto Bloody Run

Loose coins, a stick of chewing gum, paperclips, nail clippers, a folded business card, plastic cutlery. I'm not sure what this is doing here...

I give up on military bases.

Gave up on military locations. Never been to Tisy. Someone has put their cart before the horse.
  10. I don't know how it is going to work, but I probably wouldn't be eating kiwis or mackerel from zombies at that point. Possibly you would want to clean a kitchen knife you found on a zombie, before using it to cut up pumpkins or skin game.
  11. Only eat free-range, organic loot that you picked yourself, and there should be no problem. If you eat more than about a half-dozen apples a day in-game, I would like to see it mess with the lower GI tract. Apples-only dieters are scum. Also, I believe the disinfectant can be sprayed on items to kill pathogens before use. I heard a rumor that any loot taken from zombies will have to be sanitized before use.

Day Z Is Going In the Right Direction

Haha, yeah. There is still much to do. I was just wondering if you had many experiences with one loud rifle shot not aggro-ing the whole town.

Day Z Is Going In the Right Direction

Have you tested how much you can get away with by firing single, unsurpressed shots, @bfisher. I know it takes time, but it will work in a pinch; you just have to wait for the others to calm down a minute between each shot. I've noticed that M4 shots will not aggro zombies most of the time, unless they are directly in the background to hear the bullet crack go past them; same goes for surpressed 9mm.
  14. @Kirov (DayZ) I'm pretty sure that once a person has cholera, anything they eat or drink from can become contaminated. Suppose you get cholera and eat once from a cow steak, then put it back in your bag; if someone else shoots you, and then eats the steak, they should catch cholera. Same goes for water bottles, if you get sick and go to camp and drink all the bottles and pots to keep from dying, you could possibly get the whole group sick if the bottles are not sanitized. That is my understanding of it.

    May I ask?

It was a government project, and the official in charge of buying the ladders had a cousin who was sitting on a surplus of left-handed ladders.

    Wolves

3 wolves is the default number that must be killed to scare away the pack. The result may be different if you use melee to kill them, but I need to test this more with larger packs. Last time I tried, my hitbox got stuck in a field, and I holed-up in the Tisy admin building with 1500 blood left. LOL
  17. Last time I checked, grenades in tents do precisely fuckall. To be fair, the last time I checked was 35 days ago when Jarin and Dicklepick tried to raid our west Emustan camp, and I didn't exactly see where the grenade exploded. Perhaps I wrongly assumed that they could pull a pin, and set it down successfully, and run away. Is there some technique that I'm not aware of, that makes grenades damage the contents of tents?
  18. I would wait until they leave, and begin filling their tents with fish until they meet my demands. I would also not make my demands known.

Strongest Combo Weapons in the Game?

Don't listen to him. ^^^ It's ever-so-slightly eastward from Rify. Just a couple times over the horizon.
  20. I haven't heard of that happening before, @lrishjake I've seen people get sick pretty much every other way, but never from roasted chicken. You should submit a ticket on the issue with your steam ID and the precise day and time this happened. They can go look through the files and see what happened. I saw them do this a week or two ago when someone got cholera from drinking well water out of a contaminated bottle. (Yes, you can spread cholera by drinking from a water bottle or canteen while sick, and giving it to another person.)

    Wolves

I had a sawn-off shotgun, @yazar8, as well as my FNX, FAL, Longhorn, and plenty of ammo. I was just trying to see how many hits they take to kill with an ax. It appears to be about 6.

Here's a nice little video of me killing a pack of wolves with a fire ax inside the Tisy base.

A Few Thoughts on.. Bugfixing, Priorities, and Beta

Thank you for all the hard work of keeping the masses placated along the way. We know what an extra heap of work it makes keeping "the patient" ready for primetime while performing so many concurrent major surgeries. I do have one question, though, about the process. In this post, you hinted that the beta milestone might not include all systems/content intended to make-up the finished product. Specifically, you said "by no means does beta mean every pending system." This statement confuses me a bit, because of the much repeated mantra of 'alpha is for adding, beta is for bugfixing.' Does this mean that the beta milestone is more of a soft beta, with only the necessary core systems of Enfusion in place, with more to be added later. In terms of core engine functionality regarding planned 1.0 features, what percentage of completeness should we expect the beta milestone to represent?
