Dayz Veteran but not sure best way to meet my friend in game
emuthreat replied to redmantab's topic in General Discussion
@redmantab Don't be like this^^^guy, this^^^ is a guy who plays with noobs, this^^^ is a guy who won't like how the game turns out when it's finished, this^^^isn't a guy who should be advising veteran players. Just to be fair, I play with new players sometimes too. I know the struggle of meeting up with someone who lacks basic navigation skills and does not have any memory of the map. It can be frustrating, and sometimes requires the development of new communication skills to describe the road signs to one another. That's one of the best parts of this game that you won't find anywhere else, the need for a new player in an unknown land to talk over a "radio" to someone who can try to walk them through it. If you are playing with someone in the same house as you said, and are indeed a veteran, have her open the game so you can see her location. Then just run to the correct location, and you can pick up next time you both have time at the same time. Easy, right? Use the contour map from Izurvive or DayZ tv to help get a better understanding of the topography. I wouldn't really consider it cheating or meta because the in-game map is broken; and also, where in the world does not have good maps readily available at this point in history? Use a good map, and use it often. Don't kill yourself for a better spawn. Don't be That Guy. -
Since I very first started playing DayZ, the administration/curation of the public hive experience (or complete lack thereof) has been a point of contention for me. I always imagined that a online multiplayer game would have a set of public servers run by the publisher; or at the very least, contracted out and absentee managed by the publisher. The endgame of DayZ for me, would be to establish play on an official server and manage to carve out a significant sphere of influence on that server, to support raiding other servers for resources. There are many reasons that this is not viable in DayZ at this time, particularly the instability of 'official servers.' While I like the idea of BI taking on the role of curating the official public hive experience, I think there are some things that should happen before public server rentals are taken off the table. Firstly needing said, is that the need for this decision on how to form the public hive is ostensibly a result of three factors; lootfarming/duping, badmins, and the inabity to ban *cough* offending players *cough*. Without addressing the issue of those offending players targeting fully populated servers with active streamers, we are left with two core issues. Sadly, both of these issues are a result of the entirely toothless enforcement of the posted public server hosting rules. A second concern that creates a weakness in the public hive is the handling of non-rented public servers, specifically the failure to ensure the patch-life integrity of individual 'official' public servers. These two main issues should be addressed before any drastic steps are taken, such as entirely removing the option to rent public servers. The preeminent choice to improve the situation on public hive would be to simply make an effort to enforce the rules, as posted on these forums. The solution to the other issue, I suppose, is the very thing proposed by this topic. I would be very concerned about the possibility of publicly rented and individually administered servers being taken out of the community, only to be replaced by official servers hitherto completely devoid of any active administration. I would very much like to see what an "Official BI hosted server" might look like, before any major aspects of the game are removed. I like the idea of an official BI hosted and administered public hive, a true wild west of DayZ experiences, with the culture of each server growing out of the regular players who choose to call it home. So far, I've never seen this, and I have seen no evidence whatsoever that Bohemia has any experience successfully administering a large number of public servers for DayZ SA. How about we see what these servers will look like and how they will perform over time before visibly removing half of the game, as it might be perceived?

Dayz Veteran but not sure best way to meet my friend in game
emuthreat replied to redmantab's topic in General Discussion
Just play the game. I can run to Gorka in less than a half hour from any spawn to meet a friend. I might not find much, and may be on the brink of starvation, but I can do it. I hope that eventually they will implement a disincentive for suicides that will penalize layers who suicide at the coast with hefty cool down periods. I'd like to see a cool down timer that would give the player a penalty for suicide within the first half-hour after spawn, that is equal to a half-hour, minus the time survived. That means if you run around a couple minutes, realize you got the "wrong" spawn and KYS, you will have to wait 28 minutes to respawn. Just play the game. If you don't have the time, maybe plan ahead of time and both of you can try to make it to a certain town to meet up on the desired day. -
I regret nothing. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/134525192 I like to drink beer and play DayZ. Sometimes it is for a little added challenge, sometimes I just idly sip beer and smoke (I know, bad for me) to keep my hands busy while traversing the map. The longer nothing happens, the more I tend to idly drink beer. This time, bored and frustrated that nothing happened that day before maintenance, I decided to test the law of dinimishing *HIC* returns, by boredom drinking on my way to Tisy with my EXP character to find some action. I'm very surprised I survived as long as I did. More science required. I think I got haxored.

I prefer the clear-cut strategy. You'd be surprised how easy it is to miss a barrel, even when looking in the correct tree.

DayZ Colony (Whitelisting | PvP + RP + PvE | Advanced Role-Play)
emuthreat replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in Servers
Been having a blast on Colony 0-1 these past few weeks. Managed to get a few good camps set up; lost a few, found a few, persevering. IMT and Thurman did manage to find a couple of camps set up by glitchers inside some places they shouldn't be, but we are dismantling them. People should be happy to know that any tents and barrels that we liberate will now be visible and accessible to passers-by. Stay frosty out there, and If you see a guy in head-to-toe leather, say hello; you might end up getting more than my ruined gear out of the deal... -
Can vehicle doors, hoods, etc be repaired?

barrel stuck while tanning hides
emuthreat replied to green_mtn_grandbob's topic in General Discussion
I've noticed that the leather runs a little bit hot, and that the server temperatures seem to be a bit higher now. I'm running head-to-toe black leather clothing, and haven't had much problems. If it rains for more than ten minutes, I do look for Gorka; I'll also carry some to wear or throw away if it is raining a little off and on. So far, I haven't gotten cold, but only been soaked after fifteen minutes, never drenched. -
Here is the polite way to rob a tent, @plasma (DayZ). Sorry about the fan noise, I'm having some trouble getting OBS to not amplify my background noise.
-
@plasma (DayZ) As long as we are in agreement on the terminology. See you around, Wasteful One. Edit: one of our multi-tent camps had been found today, they took a bunch of guns, and I mean a BUNCH; as well as some ammo and medical supplies. They did not take the barrel, nor did they scrub the tents. I'll be gladly restocking this helperstation for those honorable folks. To be a man you must have honor...

IMt gets avenged after a successful Tisy run. We found some tents, and happened upon an itchy survivor. He shot IMT and got cleaned up before he could do much more damage. Props to Mean Farmer for playin' it slow. better luck next time.

Later that night on Colony 0-1: I ran into a barn on my way up form Vybor to Lopatino, and scared a .357 round out of a couple of guys. I managed to say hello while the one who shot took aggro, and managed to get into a shed. They eventually came to the understanding that I didn't want to kill them, and we grouped up in the shed. Hopefully Ill see them again tomorrow. Might have finally found some allies on the server.

Makes sense that primers would be heat-resistant, what with the heat generated in the breech and all. I didn't even want to mention scoring through the rims with a hacksaw, but that might be an option. Steel on brass shouldn't spark, right?... *Cringe* At that point though, it would be safer to just superglue a .177 bb to a shotshell primer and duct tape that to a 8 oz cannonball sinker with a streamer to keep it falling upright, and hope for the best. Firecrackers are sounding like a more feasible solution to this request Edit: I looked around a bit, and discovered a message board recounting a book written in which the author had tested the behavior of ammunition exposed to flame. In most cases, the primers would not cause the round to detonate, but rather to vent out the back of the cap.

How would this noise grenade work? Meaning how would one possibly be crafted IRL? Is this concept something easy enough to engineer and assemble properly that it will work more than half the time? It seems feasible, but I don't know what in-game items would be in the recipe. Could it be as simple as duct-taping cannon fuse along the primers of a few rounds, and folding it up in an empty food or drink can? Duct taping a flare to a spray paint can is something that can be done with materials already in the game.
-
Real top-notch shithead move there. I bet you litter IRL, too, huh? : P It's one thing to take as much as you can carry, or even make multiple trips to take ALL of it for yourself. But pissing all over what you can't eat, just to ruin it for everybody else, well that's a little bit antisocial, don't you think? Just throwing it all on the ground... SMH Some people just want to watch the world burn. I'll keep filling my coffers, you go ahead and keep refreshing the loot tables. I think we know where the product of your efforts end up; in better-hidden bases.

DayZ is a survival game. Show me someone in a survival situation who balks at storing goods for future use, and I'll show you someone who won't survive for very long.

I've noticed that the area East West of Sverograd and North of Zelenogorsk is underserved by firehouses. Toploniki and Vybor should each have a fire station. The response times from the NWAF firehouse are unacceptable. Stary and Novy can burn to the ground for all I care, but the NW corridor needs some more prudent fire safety measures.

But the challenge makes success all the more rewarding.

I managed to make a passable obsidian arrow point on the second try when i was 11; it's not that damn hard. I had seen a lot of examples beforehand, and learned to pick the right piece and be careful. Used a palm-sized, tetrahedral chunk of obsidian to knap it on my jeans, with zero training. If you really wanna turn it into a pissing contest, I can show you how easy it is to rip a greenstick off a fir tree with a random chunk of roughly fractured basalt. A crude knife is easily made, Hobbes. The game just needs better balancing to reflect the difference in quality. At this point, I keep a stack of small stones on me to always guarantee a pristine knife, and thus 90%+ cuts of meat.

It's on #1. I haven't gone through the Whitelist process for the others yet. Step one is an issue for me, as I refuse to give Zuck's unholy giant any more marketshare than they already have. I can say that most of the barrels are very well-hidden, aside from a bunch that Thurman found the other day, but some savages poked holes in most of them, and I threw one away in a fit of rage after coming pack with a backpack full of pelts to find a useless metal cylinder. Edit: Just found a nice green barrel hidden poorly in a tree north of NP. No holes punched, either.
-
I found a barrel yesterday on Colony, making it the fourth un-punctured barrel we have found in the last two weeks. It takes persistent searching. At this point most of them are claimed, and only very few will trickle back into the spawn tables each week. @lrishjakePoking holes will not effect persistence, it will only ruin the barrel for tanning and dyeing.

Was nobody wearing leather clothing in the hunting event? SMH

Soft skills will increase player life values. Period. Beards? Scoff. I'll shave my beard off and go to the coast in jeans and a T-shirt, fully healthy, just to see which froggy freshies try to hop at me; assuming that my babyface somehow implies that we are on equal footing. LOL Basebuilding will be a mere time-sink between deaths for PvP-centric players; and in reality, may not have much effect on player behavior from a diverse group with some players preferring to collect, hoard, and curate massive stockpiles of loot for their more mortally motivated associates to spend in the field. If you want to add value to the character, I'm afraid it will require adding some tangible value to each character lifespan. I don't see any viable way to do this, other than to add cumulative experiential value to the lifespan of that character over time. I would prefer to see a very diverse and deep offering of soft skills for characters to learn throughout a lifespan; so diverse that a character that fully masters ALL skills would be almost unheard-of. The skills would initially be based on an occupational/hobby background, randomly assigned as a combination of two or three complimentary skills and one or two unrelated skills when a new player spawns. Additional skills could be acquired slowly through trial-and-error, and significant expenditure of resources; or slightly more quickly through the use of instructional books, and modest expenditure of resources. I do not believe that there should be any limits to the amount, or nature, of skills that a players can concurrently learn. If you try to tell me any different, I will plant a garden, kill and cook a deer, clean my rifles, cut some greensticks, weave a basket to store the food, cross-stitch a cheeky note for you, fix a car, drive cross-country to your base, ram open the door, chop a tree, build you a nice table to hold the gift-basket, craft a molotov cocktail to improve your home-decor, and then apply emergency first-aid to my acutely splitting sides. Seriously, the only thing limiting a player's skills, should be the amount of time and resources they put into learning those different skills. Of course, surviving long enough to do all this would be the limiting factor. And now we have incentive to survive...

This happened in my group yesterday. Three of us helped a guy who was battling a pack of wolves by Devil's Castle. and we noticed one of us was only coming through TS, when he was obviously trying to talk to the guy we met in-game. The bug is still around.
