This sounds like a blast! It would be great to see 40-50 people walking around chatting. Although I'm sure there will be someone out there looking to ruin all of the fun.. edit.. I have no suggestions, sorry.

I agree with Max on all of his responses. However, I do not see the bugs in this game as overshadowing my fun and adventure. Yes, there are points where they get you killed, but I don't mind restarting and heading in a new direction. I still have fun each and every time I log in to play. The random cheater is what is rather annoying, but the fact that most of them are horrible shots is kind of funny. I believe you can and will have a lot of fun adventures with your friend. The excitement/emotion/uncertainty I get when I see a real player makes the interaction that much more fun. Combine that with the devs continuously improving the game and I think you will have found a nice home.

I putzed around near Balota for a bit today, looting random houses before heading north. I took a spiffy screenshot of the view of prison island.. I then decided to head inland to see what I could stir up. So now that I had all of the items I need to cook properly, I decided to go hunting. A couple opportunities passed of elk running in the distance but with them going at mach 90, I decided to just head in that direction at my own pace. I made my way into an unknown town and scared this bugger (see pic below) into getting stuck perfectly in the fence. Instead of shooting him, I was able to stab him with my knife to take him down. See the image below: With that done, I cooked the meat in my pristine pot and decided to head NE. The compass was incorrect again (I don't know why I am a surprised), and I ended up NW somehow. I recognized some towns and made my way east only to get lost again. I ran into two survivors along the way, one which aimed his weapon at me (in which I turned and ran and told him I would leave him alone -- he didn't fire). The other survivor and I exchanged some words before he gave me some directions, which led me to Dubrovka. From there I was able to find the coast and make my way to Berezino. I camped out there for a bit and decided to log until a friend came online. Overall, nothing crazy happened. It's nice having these days..

I had this happen to me on a server in .53. I had to log out of the server and log back in. I then had to find more food to eat because the game acted like the food I ate prior to logging off never happened. I basically wasted 5 cans of soda, 3 cans of food and a banana trying to catch up to a friend. I had my flare out just in case I died.. scary moment.

The private server Eno and I like to play on was down all day yesterday so I hopped on my public char and took off. I was decked out in all green (green rain coat, green hunter pants, green beanie, and hunters backpack) with a magnum. I am hoping to avoid pvp on this character (for now) and to try the lonely survivor role out a bit. I logged in within the apartment complex north of Cherno. I proceeded to build a fireplace with 8 stones (upgraded) and put the raw cow meat into the fire. It quickly became ruined -- I thought we didn't need a pot if we upgraded the fire? Anyways, so I decided to go find a pot and cooking stand, but decided to avoid Cherno and went north of Balota airfield in hopes of looting the towns west along the coast. I made my way past Balota airfield, checking things out and saw no movement. I climbed the large hill (west) overlooking the airfield and was able to take in the view of the prison island. I sat down to relax and admire the view before I realized that there could be a sniper aiming at me seeing as I was out in the open, so I quickly hustled into the treeline and kept moving west. I found a pot and cooking stand in the first town (yay) and found a mosin in the police department which I quickly painted green thanks to spray paint in the nearest shed. I realized that my long range scope was missing from the update (I had been using it as binoculars previously). So I couldn't attach it to my rifle (sniffle). With that, I found the new compass in the next town over and decided to head north to try out my new cooking stuff. I checked the compass and it seemed to be working correctly. I dropped it and picked it back up several times to make sure it didn't goof again. It did not change at all thankfully. I then logged off once I safely made it into the treeline and am anxious to complete the cooking task now that I believe I have all of the items. I really want to team up with krazypenguin. I love your stories!

It's hard to tell from the quality of the screen shot and due to it being night time. Are there not any street signs leading into or out of the town?

Today was rather quiet and serene, for the most part. I played on a public server and had a magnum, 2 boxes of ammo for it, and some ammo for a shotgun (if I found one). I realized I was on the coast just outside of Cherno between the city and Balota. I headed for Balota airfield and scanned the runway for any movement.. nothing. I cut straight across the middle for the first prison and looted it. I found a hunters backpack and green camo pants to match my green raincoat (yay). With the server filling up fast, I decided to head north/north east into the woods with the mindset to hunt and fish for awhile. I ended up going to the warehouse just north of Balota airfield and looting that and the houses. I only found a couple cans of food, so I gathered 8 stones, made a stone knife, found a green beanie, and then off I went into the forest N\NE (with no compass). I stayed in the woods for quite some time, looting random houses as I came across them. I found a deer roaming an open field so I crept up to it with my magnum aimed at it. I fired two shots to drop it. I skinned it with my new stone knife and took all of the cuts of meat with me. I ran into the nearest tree line to make a fireplace. I added the 8 stones so that I could cook in it before I realized that I had no matches on me! I was thinking of one of my other characters having it and didn't realize it until now. So, I took the stones back in search of some houses to loot and I did not take the time to look at town names before looting the houses and so I just kept running in the direction that I assume was N\NE. I came across a big town in the middle of nowhere with a ton of different sized apartment houses (some like 20 stories tall). I cannot for the life of me figure out the name of the town according to dayzdb and izurvive but I've SEEN it before. Anyways, I check it out and see no movement. I decide to look in the TEC building for some matches as I hear 2 or 3 SKS rounds fire off in the distance. I quickly run for the nearest cover and look around (by now I am in the middle of the town and don't think he/they were shooting at me. Just then, a zombie aggro's on me from the field (ugh). I run to the nearest bush and whip out my pickaxe and dispatch it quickly behind cover.. just.. as.. the corpse slides down the hill and into the open! ARGH! I go into paranoia mode and run inside the TEC building and shut each door behind me as I go up. I can swear that I hear walking around outside but see nothing out the windows. I take refuge behind the furniture on the 2nd or 3rd floor and watch the entrance to the hallway. I wait 5-10 minutes before I hear crying.. what the heck? I.. oh wait, that's my daughter waking up from her nap. To be continued..

Double check your server filters (in the server view screen) and reset them to the default settings (ie, make sure there are not any search parameters typed in there). If that doesn't work, maybe try to verify your installation files on steam. Those would be my first two steps. Edit -- Today is Wednesday, server maintenance is underway until later.

Shootouts in Dayz are the most exciting things to me. I've played many FPS/Shooter games and while they can be enjoyable, no combat game compares to DayZ for me. With so much on the line, it makes me giddy and I do stupid things at times. Props to you and your buddies for doing so well in that situation! You guys should try to record for our viewing pleasure :)

I love the editing and music and most of the scenes. A few things I would leave out is the parts where the game doesn't work correctly, like when you shot (44 seconds into the video) with no hand movements to eject the bullet (maybe shoot the scene from the other side of the weapon). I would not have understood the friend robbing him because we do not really see them working together in the videos. I did notice the handcuffs, but it would've been better to show the friend taking his stuff and running off (or even knocking him out). The last scene was powerful but I didn't like that your body fell into the ground. Aside from those points, I liked it!

I logged onto my public character and noticed I was in the town of Balota. I looted a few houses and made my way to the airfield looking for some pvp action. I had a fully loaded repeater but aside from that not much else of any importance (a couple pistols and other random stuff) . There were 42/50 players in the server so I figured my chances of seeing someone would be pretty high. I made my way to the west side of the airfield and to the bushes to check my surroundings for a minute or two.. no movement. I then booked it for the prison (military building with cell) and shut the door behind me. Not much of any loot inside. I drank some water and ate some food upstairs and took a peak out of the window.. again no movement. I decide that I will make my way to Pavlovo military base and so I open the door and start running RIGHT AS I HEAR SOMEONE PANTING AND SEE A SHOULDER OF SOMEONE STOP AT THE DOORWAY TO MY RIGHT.. AHHH. I didn't have my headset on and had no time to react like I normally would.. as I start to turn (stupid idea), I get shot instantly in the legs and fall to the ground. I start rolling around firing a couple of shots at him as he hits me a few times. I think one of my shots from 3rd person hit him in the chest, but its hard to tell. I totally got the shit scared out of me and acted absolutely terrible. I didn't take the time to aim in first person at first so I kept rolling before I finally switched to first person mode and aimed at his head as he ran.. I missed. I took another shot and hit him in the chest before I start to roll as he shoots one more shot into me to finish me off. Needless to say, I lasted less than ten minutes in that server. Watch the pathetic clip below: The sad thing is, if I had waited just a few more seconds, he probably be the one who would have walked into my lap. If I had tried to finish drinking from my canteen (it wouldn't complete the action), I may have had better luck. Oh well! :P

Last night I logged in to Eno's favorite server ( H & B ) to get some supplies again seeing as the server seemed to wipe out the persistent items the other day. I logged in at the NWAF out in the open for some reason, yikes. Seeing that I was closer to the west side of the airfield, I decided to exit that way and then loop around before heading East to Berezino. As I cut through the forest I noticed that some nice young lad left a fully fueled truck in the middle of the woods! I just knew that he would appreciate me moving it for him, so I turned it on and booked it out of there at a whopping 5mph. I made it all the way to Novo before the server crashed (sorry whomever's truck that was!) Eno logged on and we decided to join a different private server to join up and go on a fun adventure. We met up at the factory just north of Solnichniy and headed south into town. I noticed a player heading south through the middle of town and I alerted Eno to his presence. We ran in his direction to find the corpse of a female bambi. I looked around and saw no sign of the man. After looting a few houses for food and an awesome red face bandana, we headed back north towards the factory to make our way towards Berezino. Unfortunately I had to call it quits due to a sick child. Hopefully tonight we can muster up some fun.

Eno: On the plus side of that NWAF tent "battle", when Hatz and I met up in the tree line, I was able to administer the iv and get his color back. The server crashed a minute later, so hopefully his color is back once he hops back in. The good thing is that we all escaped without dying! The last few minutes of that encounter was pretty exciting. I have to admit I was really confused when you saw the guy originally. I should have rushed out and met with you and maybe we could have avoided the rest of it. When I did decide to run towards you is when I saw you standing over Hatz. I admit, I thought it was you that shot him too, lol. Oh well!

Here's another one from today! lol.. We were looking for heli crashes and stopped at the barns in the video (see below) to eat some boar steaks. We started a fire in the shed just outside of the brown barn and shut the doors. We took our time and started to leave just as one of our guys was unable to walk/move. It was totally random.. anyways, less than 10 seconds later we hear a mosin shot, then another.. This video picks up about thirty seconds after the first shot. Luckily the hacker was pretty terrible and we all survived. You can see me totally 'jerk' left as I get hit -- Ha!

Basically for finding a server in the middle between two people. I live on the east coast (NY) and he lives in Canada on the other side of the continent. So we were just looking for a server more towards Central US/Canada if possible. Although that trek seems to be much harder than I thought. While I have found some central servers, they all seem to be public servers.

This happened the other day.. I've been trying to get some decent grey/green gear combination going and found a red bandana for my face that I could not pass up seeing as I have never found one (or paid any attention to) one before. With 30+ people, I keep circling around the northern outskirts of Cherno during the mid day rain, scoping it out, when I suddenly hear multiple mosin shots. I see a bambi about 200-300m in front of me doing a serpentine down the road, so I head in his direction to see if I can help. Again, I know that with this face bandana I look like trouble but in I go! I catch up with him rather fast and ask him where the sniper is. All I hear is "I'm friendly" in a European accent. I repeat the question a few times with no response other than "I am friendly!". I believe I pinpoint where the shots are as I tell him to follow me into the hospital. He seems to follow me but not as quickly as I would like so I make haste inside while yelling to follow me. I clear the upstairs and come all the way back down before I hear him get shot outside. He starts yelling "help! I am shot, what in the sh*t is this?!". I keep cover between myself and the sniper as I yell at him to run towards me but he lays down as I can only assume he was shot in the leg. I tell him to crawl towards me and I will heal him. The sniper is either a terrible shot or is toying with him before he finally puts him to sleep (what seems like 10 minutes later was probably only 10 seconds). I make my way toward where I think the sniper is before the server resets. I change servers and log in out in the open, so I rush over to a nearby red house to sort my gear and get my bearings (40+ people in this server). Not a minute later I hear someone running around the house while I hear multiple "glass break" sounds. Just as the front door comes into view I see it swing open. I sit pretty at the top of the stairs with my shotgun fixed on the door. A few seconds later I hear a gun click (empty, lol). I look around and think maybe it was outside. Who knows? Just then, I get bonked with an axe by mister invisible (at least I am assuming it was an axe). Yay!

I just got done reading this thread in its entirety. Great stories by all! I live in NY (EST) and would love to group up with any of you who are in the states or in Canada.
