I noticed OP has like 3 or so posts, Stick around read up on some stuff. Check out some Youtube channels, WOBO is one of many many channels with useful information. Its been said a million times and as of this post your best chances for survival hinge on crafting a stone knife, by searching for stones on the rocky texture. Then using that stone on the same texture to make the knife. Next find an apple tree and grow a little patience and search for apples until your energized and hydrated. If you can't manage to do those tasks then you deserve to die over and over until you can. Take your knife cut some bark and a stick from a tree, if you manage to get birch bark look for another tree that doesn't have a white trunk. Combine your bark and stick and you can now light a fire. Now you can roam around and complain about other things you know nothing about, but you wont starve to death at least, or maybe you will, Dayz is a tough game after all and will become more intense as development proceeds. If hard games and frustration are not your cup of tea, you chose poorly. I look forward to you overcoming your lack of knowledge and suffering through the rough spots, you wont find a game as adrenaline pumping or anxiety inducing as DayZ.

3PP vs 1PP - I finally have an opinion
Volcanogod replied to BobbyDean's topic in General Discussion
Yea i would enjoy a Chivalry style combat system, however the veterans really know how to squeeze the most out of it. If it was implemented verbatim i would imagine lots of people getting wrecked by a dude with a broom pulling spinning backwards overhands. Others mentioned mount and blade style but i have no familiarity with it, perhaps it isn't as gamey as the Chivalry system. Either way the melee as it stands is a bit lackluster and kind of a spam fest with little skill and more luck, mostly due to desync but thats been improving lately. -
Some things are not intuitive to players, they may not even look up information because the question never dawned on them. How many players know that two stacks of rags can be combined into a rope? Its not a secret but maybe you wouldn't know that you could do such a thing, or creating a hand drill kit out of some bark and sticks? Now you do not need to rely on matches to get a fire started. These are kinda weak examples to veterans and likely anyone whom goes to the forums with any sort of regularity however there is always going to be that person for whom this information would be a boon. Just remember that because you and I are excited and inquisitive enough to hunt down information online does not mean that other players are as curious or even capable of finding such information. https://xkcd.com/1053/

I do believe it is you missing the point people are raising. This system is highly exploitable, such as i run into NWAF loot up and come under fire. I find a safe enough spot i can pull my plug i get teleported out of NWAF and then i relog and i have the loot my life, and i can now head back to NWAF and ambush my attackers.

The only way i would consider this to be acceptable would be to have books with the recipes such as how to build a fire pit or a improvised backpack. Perhaps when the medical system is implemented you can have books with how to cure certain ailments ect. But none of these would restrict or enhance any abilities beyond being a reference or a guide for newer players.

Read through and i agree we shouldn't have any ill feelings over disagreeing. I guess the core feeling i want to express in my posts is that things are shaping up better then ever, .61 has really pushed more interesting pve elements to the foreground and the game is evolving towards the hardcore survival that i believe you also wish the game to become. With the latest videos and status reports, new members to the PR team (Baty) ect, it seems that BI is taking PR more seriously then it was. I would imagine that PR is going to only keep getting better. You mentioned the infected taking a backseat and not being prominent in game. Have you had a chance to play the latest build on experimental if you have and you still feel the same way what is it you want out of the infected as pve? Yea i have hunted, but lets be honest its nowhere near a complete package yet, essentially none of it is "Done". Just like with many aspects of DayZ development i am reserving my harshest judgment until the developers themselves tell us that "Feature X is complete". You mention several times throughout your post about things left unsaid, either state these unsaid things or leave them out of your post cause they add nothing to it other then unsubstantiated claims about who knows what. It weakens any argument you are trying to form and frankly seems like you have more of an axe to grind with someone or something. What is your vision of a complete Dayz, how would you explain your Day 0 of survival in Dayz 1.0, what about day 10 or 30. What would drive you to keep playing what is it you want? Oh yea, .62 the forests are looking to get an overhaul.

I distinctly remember Hicks himself talking about BI hiring a team that developed a popular hunting game to work exclusively on Animal AI. You also lament on the lack of survival elements, you have a very extensive post history i would assume you have been keeping to date with all the developer Q&A's, tweets, trello, hicks talking at cons ect. He has covered plenty of these things more then one time, maybe you have trouble finding this information or you have cared not to research it. Either way you should allay your fears that this is going to be an arcade shooter with some survival minigames sprinkled in.

Identify players with Binoculars, Longrange scope etc.
Volcanogod replied to Aim-iliO's topic in Suggestions
When you add identifying marks such as nameplates or other UI or HUD indicators to people you are essentially making the game easier or enabling players to be lazier in how they approach a situation. Part of the immersion of the game is not always being 100% about the motives or the identity of the players your interacting with. This video illustrates that idea well. When shots ring out and your squad has to scatter unless you are already wearing identifying clothing that marks you as friendly, like an armband or all cowboy hats ect. then the chances of friendly fire becomes a very huge threat. The ID system might make sense for players on a private modded hive. But for the vanilla game that DayZ developers have in mind the ID system is just not going to be compatible in the slightest. I find the idea to be intriguing but it should really be developed with modded server rule set in mind and not trying to shoehorn it into Vanilla. -
I look forward to more befriend a bambi then take them into the woods for some good ol'fashioned murder pron.

Pretty sweet time lapse, the skybox doesn't always feel alive when i am in game. The time lapse really added some life to the world when you consider all the time players involve themselves into focusing our attention on other aspects of the world. Look forward to seeing footage as the newer updates take shape and will enjoy a comparison.

Consider this alternative, now that your squad cannot know exactly how close to full a server is you may be more likely to seek out medium servers or low pop ones therefore seeding more players across servers. Of course i think the most rational fix to this would be to show the max population available so that players know the density of encounters they are likely to have. Dayz has to buck some trends we gamers might be used to, change can lead to some great things and first impressions sometimes can be off-putting. We should give it a chance to actually see how it is in practice and see if it lives up to the theory.

I really enjoyed the raining on the rooftops, provides some awesome ambiance. Squishy footsteps were pretty sweet, i hope this inspires the devs whom are working on the sounds.

CLE: easier to get m4/mags than civilian weapons (now with expanded feedback)
Volcanogod replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
Just shoot them. On a serious note all these behaviors will change when the environment becomes more dangerous to traverse due to animals, weather and infected. When you can no longer sprint across the map players will be forced to loot the coastal cities before they move inland. There is going to be a fundamental shift in the way players will have to approach DayZ when vanilla is released and it will be glorious. Currently the gameplay is almost a glorified pvp match with some pve lightly sprinkled in, when the PvE is fleshed out people will have more things to do before they can bee line their way to military bases for the phat lewtz. -
Well to be pedantic, Infected/wildlife are the NPC's we all want. I would rather not have a firefight with NPCs that are sporting some guns there is something that is very one dimensional about firefighting and AI. I would feel more accomplished evading real players, or flanking them, AI might be decent but i want to fool players not try and metagame NPCs with guns. I think the Infected/wildlife will bring all the elements we need to make a compelling story while still navigating PVE challenges and keeping our eyes peeled for other survivors.

I know its a bit of a necro post but i really like some of these suggestions, the one that lead me to your post was the Voice/communication idea, we could certainly use some form of toggle to be able to have private ingame conversations with others around.
