  1. As I said before: you want it quickly, or you want it well done. You can't have both. Have some patience FFS. Has anyone that complains about slow development in Dayz bought other early access games? DayZ has LIGHTNING FAST update cycles, compared to other games I've played, like Project Zomboid or Kerbal Space Program. And good for them, I'm not saying that's a bad thing. You payed for a finished game that will be released in 2015/2016. At a discount for buying so early. The devs then let you play their buggy unplayable alpha and beta, and work hard so it is as bug-free as possible so it's fun to play. You didn't pay to get all the features you expect from the finished game in the 3 and a half months that have passed from the alpha release. If by the end of the alpha you see that the announced core features haven't made it to the game, then start worrying. But not yet. They will come, at their due time.
  2. I believe making an "stable" branch is slowing down the development of the game. They should be pushing new features and content updates with or without game breaking bugs, not worrying about it's stability. Bug-fixing should come in late alpha or even in beta. I understand it's a public (and paid for) alpha, so it should be kind of playable, but we would be better off with just the experimental branch. So I can't play DayZ because the build that's currently on experimental crashes on me, or it's unplayable? Ok, then I'll report it and go play something else until next update. So if someone complains that the update is taking too long to reach stable release and then complains about the bugs and instability, they should know that it's kind of their fault. You can't have both things.

    Clipped Thru Wall

You can try to disconnect and reconnect really close to the wall that you clipped through. Sometimes you log in the correct place. It may be a pain with the new countdown system for logging/relogging, though,

    Action/Spectator Mode

That's why a lot of people want 3rd person and crosshairs to be removed. They are not realistic. But they are there for a reason, though. They have a purpose. The crosshairs allow to pick up hard to reach items that don't show in the vecinity part of the inventory, which would be difficult to do without exactly knowing where the center of the screen is. And 3rd person allows for a more pleasant movement, although it can be used to cheat. I personally prefer 3rd person to be removed, and mainly play at hardcore servers. But your suggestion completely breaks inmersion and it just doesn't belong to a game that tries to be a sim / authentic / realistic. It serves no purpose other than magically see shots fired when you're bored. I hope that was constructive enough. EDIT: Typos were made.
  5. Don't worry. It is known that the first "permanent" item that will come are backpacks. So you can toss a backpack in the woods and fill it with stuff and it will be there after server restart.
  6. You currently have two characters, one in the "regular" hive, and another one in the "hardcore" hive. This is awesome because I can leave my "regular" character near my friends and do whatever the hell I want with my "hardcore" character.
  7. They said: "Action: Players can now collect Berries as food" That is, if there were any. Lies were not told :D In all seriousness, though, it may be a bug. Or maybe what I said is right, and they meant that the action of berry picking was implemented, but there aren't any berries to pick yet.

    Please Dayz

Self defense and even paranoia are part of the game, that's cool. But with leaderboards people would get out of their way to kill other players. They would camp the coast just to get easy kills from the newspawns to get their kill count up.Yeah, yeah, yeah, we all know that they shouldn't be lingering on the coastal towns, but killing just for killing shouldn't be encouraged. The stats that, in my opinion, should be shown on the leaderboards are number of deaths, most common cause of death, current time alive, longest time alive, rarest item found, zombies killed, and things like that.

    Suicide

Try disconnecting while really close to a wall, and then connect again to a server. Sometimes you spawn outside the room. If not, try running against all the walls and vaulting through them. It sucks, but I've seen people get out of there. I myself scaped from one locked room in the wrecked ship by logging out and then in again.
  10. So, alt+tab worked perfectly until last patch, but now the game freezes and needs to be restarted. I use a 2 monitor setup, so in the background I have opened some apps for monitoring my CPU and GPU temps and the FPS I can get, all in the secondary monitor . I also use the the DayZDB map to find my way whenever I play with friends, and need to know exactly where we are so we can meet up. Prior to the patch, I could click on the map, drag it, and zoom in or out, but the game was minimized whenever I did so. The game went back to full screen without problems, though. Now the game isn't minimized, but it just freezes. When I try to come back, it's completely frozen, except ambient sounds. I can see the frozen image of the game, but can't do anything. Is this happening to anyone else? I haven't found anything with the search function. I will search the bugtracker for this issue, and if I can't find it, I will add it myself. My specs, if those matter: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits. Nvidia GTX 780 Intel i7 4770k ASUS Z87 pro 32GB RAM OS installed in a 128 GB SSD Game installed in a 256 GB SSD
  11. Well, it just seemed to have fixed itself :/
  12. Do you understand that "alpha" is the phase in which new features are constantly implemented, taking priority over bugfixing or balancing? If a bug can be easily fixed, then it will be. If it's not, then it will be fixed at a later time. If you want a beta, then wait for the beta (late 2014). Remember that this month has been slow because of the holidays. Dean Hall just returned from New Zealand. I guess the updates will come more quickly from now on. And your argument is just false. The alpha has been out for less than 5 weeks and we have seen several patches. The average is even higher that one per week.

    M107 in Standalone

It's just a matter of balance, and that's hard to nail. You might be right. We agree on the basics though.
  14. I made a search, but couldn't find anything. Sorry if this has been discussed before or if this is not the place for this thread. As the title says, I get a huge performance drop with ambient occlusion enabled. I'm talking a 10-20 fps drop. I play at 2560x1440 resolution, and without ambient occlusion I get 40 to 50 fps in the wilderness with everything maxed out (except edge smoothing and antialiasing, which I think are almost irrelevant at this resolution). With it enabled it drops to around 30, sometimes dropping to 27 or so. In cities, the drop is unnoticeable, maybe 2-3 fps from 28 to 25 or something like that, which makes it seems to me that, in cities, my GPU is not being used at its maximum, but that's a different issue. Is this normal? Should ambient occlusion make that big of an impact in perfomance? I see the game looks way prettier with it enabled, so I would like to use it, but not at this cost. My specs: Intel i7 4770k at the stock speed. MSI Nvidia GTX 780 Gaming (954MHz Core (Boost Clock:1006MHz)). 32GB RAM at 1333 MHz. SSD's - Samsung 840 PRO 128 GB for OS and 256GB for games. Everything running at comfortable temperatures. Any suggestions? Or is everything normal this way?

Maybe add it as the extremely rare weapon, with extremely rare ammo, and even more extremely rare magazines. Make it part of the future global economy Rocket talked about, so there can only be 2 or 3 of them across ALL servers. Add a weight system to the inventory (this suggestion has nothing to do with the weapon itself, it would be cool even if the weapon is not added), so the player becomes extremely tired and can't even jog for long distances, unless they give up important gear to go for a lighter load. Make using it really clunky. Slow reload, Bad maneuvering with the weapon unholstered, really bad recoil, etcetera... Remember that the players are not trained soldiers, just average janes and joes that are just fighting to survive. Hard to understand why they would want to use such a weapon, but hey, to each their own. EDIT: What thedogfoodyayho said. His is a much better post than mine. Except the limit of 2000 guns, I think that's way too many.

    Wells

I think that it's too easy to stay well hydrated, and that's because of the wells. There are just too many. I don't even carry a canteen or water bottle anymore, and don't even bother picking up soda cans. Sure, I was dying of thirst every 5 minutes when I first played the game, but once you understand the mechanics (drinking until your character says that their stomach is full), then you can just stop for a bellyful of water every hour or so. My suggestion for wells would be that players can get an infection from them, but with a lower probability than drinking from a pond or river. Wells would still be better than random ponds, but they are balanced, being more dangerous because of zombies and other players. That way the player would have to boil the water or use the purifying pills (another item that I just throw to the ground whenever I find a medkit).

Disable log out in / near buildings

I see that I must be the only one to kind of agree with this suggestion. But I would add that it should prevent you from logging out near loot spawns, not only buildings. This is not to avoid combat logging, it's to avoid server hopping for easy loot. I agree that this solution affects legit players too much, and sometimes you just have to leave right at the moment, so let's hope the devs have something better up their sleeve to fight server hopping.

    Server times being synchronized.

We all know that, when night comes, servers get completely empty. I'm forced to play either at daytime or in an empty server. My suggestion is to make some adjustments to how the day and night cycle works to make it more interesting, so we can play both at day and night (this is my opinion, so everyone is free to disagree). 1- Get rid of the gamma slider. Whoever wants to adjust the gamma can do so in their monitor's settings. That way would be a post-render setting and wouldn't make visible something that's invisible, which is what happens with the current system. 2- Flashlights need to be fixed (Yes, it's alpha, I know). This is important, because while flashlights go through walls, looting inside a building at night is nearly impossible. With no ambient light from the flashlight "bouncing" on surfaces, it's really hard to see. And you can see people looting buildings from miles away. 3- Synchronize server times, so all servers are at the same time of day (No more 24/7 daytime servers, and people can't server hop to a daytime server when it gets dark). Whoever HATES night, can play in a private hive. 4- Maybe locking the time zones would be a bit harsh for those that could only play at night (I wouldn't like it), so, to compensate, lower the duration of the day/night cycle to something reasonable. Anything from 5 to 10 hours would be unnoticeable unless looking at a clock, while allowing gaming sessions to last enough to play at different times of day. EDIT: EDIT: Do you think this will empty all servers? Would people stop playing in the main hive? Please don't bother to post "nope". Please elaborate.

    Server times being synchronized.

Sorry, I added a paragraph and didn't change the numbers... I'm dumb like that. To solve the problem of someone being stuck in a specific time of day I added number 4, to have shorter day/time cycles so people can enjoy/suffer every phase of the day. Of course I notice, I play 4 hours straight at most. I usually play for 2 hours, more or less. But playing 2 and a half hours in a 5 hour cycle (just an example) would get you from noon to midnight, or viceversa. In just one session. That way we can enjoy all aspects of DayZ, not just the happy times of day (well, happy in comparison with the dreadful night). I don't know if I explained myself correctly in that point. With the current system, to experience a full day in-game in just one session, you need to play for 24 hours straight, without the server restarting. Talk about having no life. It can be made so, even playing always at the same real world time every day, you play at a different time in-game. For example, with a 5 or 7 hour cycle. Let's imagine a 7 hour cycle. We begin at 00:00 at midnight in the real world, and it is 00:00 in game. Then at 3:30 it's noon, and at 7:00 it's midnight again. Then at 14:00, 21:00 of the same day, and 4:00, 11:00, 18:00, of the next day, will be midnight. That means, that someone playing an hour at 18:00 (6 pm), will play the first day at day, but next day it will be midnight. Well, I've never found a full server at night time in the 65 hours that I've played this game. They are always at less that 10 people. I can't argue with you on this one, we just have had different experiences. Maybe it's our timezones? I'm at GMT time. I see what you mean, but we need to aim high with our suggestions. If only part of our suggestions is doable, then we've helped develop the game, even if it's just a little. Anyway, who would have thought that the ARMA 2 engine could handle what it's handling right now? It's up to the devs to say what's possible and what's not. I'm certainly not keeping my hopes up with the suggestions in this thread, mainly because I think they are quite unpopular. But I make them anyway. It's my way to try to help. That's why I'm saying that time of day shouldn't be a server option in the public hive. You're right that maybe noone cares enough, but I can only try :) I suggested that because night servers are always empty. At least in my experience, because someone else said that they could find full nighttime servers. Not my case. Anyway, we aren't forcing anyone to play only at night, it's just playing how it is intended, with days and nights. If people absolutely hate the night, they can always use private hives. That's why I asked if people thought this would be too unpopular so people would stop playing in the main hive servers.
  20. The servers restart every 4 hours to respawn zombies and loot... So we need zombies and loot to respawn so servers don't need to restart every 4 hours... I would agree that, as of this moment, there's too much loot when the server respawns. The game needs less loot in the game, but it needs to respawn, obviously. The reason I say this is because I had the luck of having my server restart when I was at the NE airport. I was fully armed within 5 minutes, with an M4 and four 60-round magazines. And when you reach a village that noone has looted yet, it's a paradise of food. But it's early alpha and loot is not supposed to be balanced yet, so that's not a priority at the moment.

    A story about justice.

What happened to me today while playing DayZ with a friend was highly satisfying, it felt like justice. That's a feeling that you don't get often while playing this game. I've been playing with a friend for the past couple of days. We've travelled Chernarus from South to North and East to West, getting ourselves fully geared up in the meantime. Camouflage clothing, big backpacks, lots of food, tactical vests, weapons (an m4 for me and a mosin for him, axes and pistols), lots of ammo, and so on. We moved from town to town, visiting the new places that are already implemented in the north part of the map, always avoiding people to optimize our chances of survival. But with so much equipment there's no point in keep looting, and with nothing else to do, we became bored and decided to go to the south coast and try to help new spawns. We knew that was likely to be our doom, but fuck it, we said. So we wandered the south coast for a bit until we decided to get to Balota Airfield. We were inside of the building that has a cell in the first floor, seeing if there was something useful that we still didn't have, like a 6-slot shirt for my friend, or a sight for the m4 for me. I was covering the closed main door while my friend was searching the building. Then all of the sudden the door opened and a guy tried to get in the building. I was distracted, talking to my friend about what he was finding. I wasn't expecting anyone, and as a non-PVP player, I panicked and shot before I could see that he was completely unarmed. Luckily I missed by a mile, as I didn't even aim. He told us that he was friendly, to which I replied that we were too. I gave him 2 opened cans of food and he went east towards the hangars, thanking us. He clearly didn't trust us, the poor thing. We decided to quickly go back to the trees north of the airfield, just in case someone heard the shot and was on their way to ambush us. A few minutes later we heard some m4 shots coming from the control tower, east of where we were.We thought that our freshspawn friend was in trouble, so we got into a hidden position and watched from the trees. We were right. We saw the guy running, bleeding out, while one guy that we couldn't yet see kept shooting him. I didn't see him fall, but it didn't look good. The shooting stopped and them two guys got around the building. One went prone, while another one entered the control tower. We were planning how to kill those two bastards that attacked our little innocent friend, when I noticed that the guy in prone position was looking directly at me. I didn't think he was seeing me, because he was just looking, but then he started to shoot at me. I stood up and started running, zigzagging among trees and bushes while hearing the bullets hit all around me. I knew that if I distracted him, I could buy some time for my friend to carefully land his shot. I barely managed to get to cover, unharmed. He kept shooting at my general direction, but then I heard my friend firing his Mosin. I peeked out of cover and saw the guy bleeding like a fountain. Then another shot and he was dead. We waited for a bit, watching the control tower. There was no sign of the other guy. We feared he was trying to ghost on us, so we forgot about him and relocated into the thicker forest, east of where we were. We then tried to locate the guy that we helped but we couldn't find him. So we'll never know if he made it :( That's what should happen to you when you mess with harmless fresh spawns. But unfortunately, we all know justice is a rare thing in the apocalyse.

    every server is dark

The game needs a globalized time to prevent server hoppers, that's for sure. But I think that in that case, the daytime cycle needs to be shortened, so people can enjoy a full day and night in one session, and not be stuck in permanent day or night everytime they play because they can only play at the same time everyday. Please note that I said I neither want to be stuck at only night, nor day. So don't call me a noob that's afraid of the dark. I LOVE NIGHT TIME (Insert Bane joke here). Maybe a time cycle ranging from 6 to 12 hours long would be a good middle ground, with varying night/day duration ratio depending on the season, to keep it authentic. This way, everyone will be able to enjoy/suffer every phase of the day, without being stuck in one. Midnight Noon Midnight |-------------|-------------|-------------|-------------| 0 6 12 18 24 This is the current time cycle. The way it is right now, people can server hop to get permanent daylight and making the game easier for them. But if the devs make a global time lock, say, GMT time, then someone that can only play from 18:00 to 24:00 in the same timezone will only play at night. Ever. The most daylight they will get is a little dusk. Exactly the opposite will happen to someone that lives in the opposite side of the world. Not exactly a fair solution. Midnight Noon Midnight Noon Midnight |-------------|-------------|-------------|-------------| 0 6 12 18 24 With something like this 12 hour cycle, the same person will play from noon to midnight. Or midnight to noon if he lives in the opposite side of the world, and the only thing that allows them to skip the night is logging off until it dawns. I think it's a fair and still authentic way to deal with this problem. Please don't give me the inmersion bullshit, because nothing is less inmersive than being disconnected from a server and then connecting to another, just to see it is in a completely different time zone. And I don't think anyone can notice the difference between 24 and 6/8 hour cycles without a watch in hand. You won't notice the movement of the sun anyway, it's too slow. EDIT: ok, those "timebars" are messed up when the post is published... but you all understand them anyway :D EDIT 2: Fixed!

    Weird Mouse movement DayZ standalone.

I was experiencing exactly the problem you are describing. It was really annoying and made the game unplayable for me. Let me guess: do you have a controller plugged in? If so, try unplugging it from your computer. Worked like a charm for me. Please tell us if that solves your problem too, so I can confirm it was caused by the controller (mine was an Xbox 360 controller) and report this bug so the devs can fix it.
  24. I was one of those imported characters, I managed to get some gear in the US servers, killed several people and lived some awesome moments of nearly dying but prevailing, so I liked the idea of importing my character to the EU server. That was my doom, I was alive until today, but I didn't get any advantage from my gear, because I didn't see any player. I went straight from the coast to the NE airfield to see how it was, and looking for a better damn backpack (I only had an Assault Pack (12)). I got so desperate for a backpack after sweeping the airstrip day after day that I got careless and got shot to death by someone that I couldn't see. I think he was in the firestation tower. Was I the last survivor from the US inmigrants? :P

    New Standalone Screenshots released

Yeah, I knew that. I said "The screenshots don't look that hot, as they are taken with medium settings". As, because, since... I wanted to say "because they are taken with medium settings". Maybe I phrased that ambiguously, as english is not my first language :P Again, keep up the good work. This is looking really good.
