Force voice-activation over Direct Communication channel.
HellSnake posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ok, so I used the search function and didn't find anything like this suggestion I'm about to make. If it's suggested already then nevermind this topic. First of all, I don't even know if it can be implemented right now, but I think that disabling global chat could only be done thanks to an Arma beta patch, so it might be possible. If not, then I think it should be implemented when the game goes stand alone. Everyone that plays DayZ as a group uses some external VoIP program, such as TeamSpeak or Skype or whatever. I use Teamspeak to play with some friends, so I'm not complaining about it. A group can perfectly communicate without making a single noise ingame. Making a team perfectly coordinated AND silent. I think that it would be good to force some voice activation system over the direct communication channel. The same kind of voice activation that works in such VoIP programs. This will add a lot more ambience, as big groups will be heard chatting if they're not careful, and approaching some other survivor will need to be accomplished in a stealthier way. If two survivors are inside a church talking loudly about how they are going to split their loot, they should be heard from outside. It works the other way around, if a group see a single survivor entering a church, the guy should hear them planning the ambush if they are talking about it just outside the doors. This will not affect lone wolfs in any way. I can see how this is not going to appeal to some or most of you, but hey, this is alpha, so why not give it a try? (when it can be implemented) What do you guys think? Do you see any flaws in this idea? Is it a big flawy mess of an idea? TL;DR Force direct communication channel always on, and force voice activation over microphone so everything that the mic gets, it is heard in the game. -
Force voice-activation over Direct Communication channel.

It could happen, but not everyone has a laptop and desktop at the same time, let alone all the people in the same group having a laptop and desktop combo. A team of survivors that just woke up at the shore with nothing but a flashlight have in-ear comm devices and communicate silently from the very beginning? I don't think so. This idea is compatible with radios, and those form of comms that you are talking about, which Rocket has the intention of implementing as lootable gear in the future. Oh yeah, baby. -

Did you really think before posting this? They can use direct communication and say "SUCKY MY WINGY WANG GURRRLLL" if they like. They just press Caps Lock and voilá. They are also giving away their position, so it will be a lot more satisfying to kill them. This would work really well with the idea of having radios discussed in other topics, and hinted by Rocket. -
I was actually thinking of starting a thread about removing tents and storage capacity from vehicles. Thank you for sparing me the rage and death threats. You're my hero. I will also add that a player should not be able to loot his/her own body. This may be pointless and not worth the effort, though, because if the player is in a group, his friends can loot the body for him and then throw his gear in the ground for him to take, but still. This, coupled with the storage in tents and vehicles, make death meaningless. I totally agree with the idea of making the game harder, too. Zeds are not a threat. Their only goal is to make players more visible to other players (which is saying a lot, but they should be dangerous on their own). Food, drink, and temperature are not a threat either. Surviving after the first hour of gameplay is only a matter of not finding any players. Making matches an item with limited uses should help.

Actually, Kamenka it's one of the best places to start the journey to the north. There are three deer stands just north of the town. You can also find 3 supermarkets and several other deer stands in the way to the NW airfield. You broke your leg near Cherno? There are 4 (FOUR) medical loot spawns in Cherno, where you can easily get morphine (I used to complain about broken legs too, until I found out how easy is to find morphine).

To hell with primary weapons says the medic
HellSnake replied to Tsyn's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Very good idea. I support it. You have my beans. And my axe. -
It was worse before. A few updates ago, infected would break legs a lot more often than they do now. It was ridiculous, but I find it fairly balanced right now. That said, I always have some morphine on me. Where to find morphine? Is actually very easy to find, it's just that it only regularly spawns in a few places, so you must take 2 or 3 morphine autoinjectors before heading inland. It spawns at hospitals, both on their own, and inside medical crates. There are several medical crates in every hospital, which have lots of blood, bandages, morphine, and epi-pens. If you can't open the box through your gear menu, then you have to clear the loot that has spawned below the box. Just take it and throw it anywhere else, then you can get the nice things. EDIT: There's loot behind the hospital and on the roof, but to get the most of it, you need to get inside the building. To do so, you must break the glass. I suggest using a melee weapon, so you don't attract half of the zeds in the city, or even worse, any other players. Oh, and you save ammo that way. Where are the hospitals? If you don't know that, then you urgently need this: http://dayzdb.com/map There's one at Elektrozavodsk, just southeast of the supermarket. Another one is located south of Berezino. And in Cherno you can find two hospitals, and two medical military tents, all of them full of morphine for you to enjoy :D You can also find morphine at military loot spawns, and on some zombies (I think that the military ones have a small chance of dropping it), but this is not as reliable. In short, TL; DR, go to any hospital and get 2-3 morphine before going anywhere.

I'm actually glad I can't play DayZ tonight... I'm sick and I really need the sleep :D

This happened to me today. I was in the top floor of a barn, and forgot to toggle walk, so I ran down the stairs to a catastrophic outcome. Broken legs, trembling, bleeding, and knocked out. Luckily, no zed heard me, though, so I waited to "wake up" and cured myself. Lost a morphine auto-injector, a bandage, a box of painkillers and was left at less than 8000 blood, just because of a clumsy move (both my character's and mine). Then I noticed that the sound was off, like I was still KO (I think this always happens to me), so I logged out and in back again, in the same server. I was then left unconscious and it lasted... well, a lot of time. I guess it's 5 minutes like you guys said. The sound was ok when I got up, though, so I went out of the barn and into a house. I was still nervous, so I didn't see a zombie behind the house, so it heard me and went inside after me. I was about to shoot it in the head when it went all flash-and-hulk-lovechild on me, dashing 3 meters towards me and knocking me unconscious and making me bleed again. It did not kill me and when I woke up I killed it and had the same no sound issue, so I logged out and in again. Surprise: unconscious again for an eternity. I haven't logged in again since my last logout, but after reading this thread I guess I'll be having this issue from now on, won't I?

Hey, the idea it's not shit, but it has been already suggested several times indeed. People against this kind of already suggested ideas (mental illness, depression, paranoia, hallucinations...) say that no way of playing should be punished. What they don't realize is that not killing on sight is the playstyle that is being punished right now. KOS is all laughs and party, but trying to communicate with some other survivor without shooting first is suicide. And this, as stated several times before, is not realistic. Only psychopaths would kill for sport, so you should feel like a psychopath if you kill needlessly. And DayZ is trying to be all about realism, isn't it? Somethings need to be done.

Losing Your Humanity (Penalty For Murdering)
HellSnake replied to Ad-man's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I have always thought that something similar should be done. This game is supposed to be set in a post-apocalyptic world, so I understand killing because of fear, killing because of desperation, and such... but killing for the laughs is a bit unrealistic to me. It would take a psychopath to kill anyone just for the sake of it. I like your suggestions, but I will add one that I've thought about, myself, although I have also read it in the forums somewhere (sorry, random guy, for "stealing" it). Hallucinations. EDIT: Ok, so federik21 already suggested this while I was writing this wall of text :P When your humanity level is starting to get low, you should occasionally start to hear fake noises of zombies, as if they were far away, in random directions. As your humanity level decreases even further, you should start to hear them as if they were closer. And when it gets alarmingly low, the player should start to hear nearby footsteps, as if a survivor is running near him, and even random gunshots. Of course this sounds should not be continuous, but only heard from time to time. That way, having a low humanity level would be a real hindrance, because a player that kills for fun is not going to be able to tell fake from real. He would get scared because of nothing, and when he gets used to it, he would ignore a real survivor's footsteps, thinking it's a fake sound, and get a nasty surprise. It would be awesome to implement visual hallucinations for extreme cases as well, but I don't think that could be done. It needs to be balanced well, so this would not make the game unplayable to legit bandits. The ones that don't kill on sight (unless the other guy has seen them too), but only kill with reason (if there's such a thing as a justifiable murder, but hell, this is the apocalypse, and they're called bandits for a reason). I don't mean to end banditry, as I think it's a core part of the experience. So, in short, what do you guys think? I think the killing on sight needs to stop somehow, and I think this is a good way to make people think twice before pulling the trigger, as murders now would have a penalty, and all of this without marking you as a bandit like the skins did. This way, you can still kill whoever you want, and still lie about it and fool other people, but at least is an inconvenience. -
Broken leg, bleeding and KO in 1 hit at 12k blood needs to go.
HellSnake replied to ElemenoP's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I already posted this in the 1.7.2 discussion thread, but as a suggestion I was going to start a new thread here, then I remembered that I should use the search function, so here I am. I'm totally with you. It's ridiculous that you can be at 10.000 (12000 in your case) blood and be even killed because of one single zombie hit. Right now (I just died this way) the thing goes like this: you've got 9800 blood, a zombie sees you: no problem, you get up, remember your fleeing route, and start ru... oh, wait, it hit you and you get broken bones and start bleeding. Then you aggro more zombies by shooting (because you can't flee to a safe location) and they get you unconscious and start to eat you. Zombie Ultra Combo = Flawless zombie victory. I'm not saying the broken bones features should be removed, or the game dumbed down, but zombies should only be able to break your legs when you are surrounded by several of them, or when the same zombie has hit you several times in a row. In short, when you're getting a beating. Tweak the following numbers as you will: Maybe the chance of getting broken legs should be 0% until you get hit by zombies 4 consecutive times (by the same or different zeds), and then start going 5% up by additional hit until a maximum of whatever percent (50?). When you have not been hit for 10 minutes, or maybe when you heal by eating or getting a transfusion, that chance resets. In short, aggroing a single zombie shouldn't mean the player's death, or his inability to stand up, but being surrounded, or letting the same zombie beat you repeatedly, should. I really like all the changes up to this moment that make the game more difficult: nerfed starting equipment, zombie perception (although there are still some bugs to be refined, like zombies hitting through walls). So don't call me a whiner, but I think the rate of broken bones is unfair. Specially when taking into account the lack of morphine. I hope we can keep the "L2P" and "go back to CoD" comments to a minimum :-P -

I was actually going to suggest something like this. I think this is a very good idea.
