    New Standalone Screenshots released

    Awesome! The screenshots don't look that hot, as they are taken with medium settings, but the fact that all the buildings can be entered is what makes this exciting. Now the villages will be interesting to scavenge. And god, am I looking forward to seeing Cherno and Elektro with most buildings finished.
  4. You should have seen the NW airport just one hour ago. There was a helicopter flying low in circles over the airstrip. Shots were heards from the distance. I was on my way out from the south barracks when I saw a guy moving in a tree. Killed him before he could shoot me (sorry if you were friendly, man D: but I don't take chances anymore) and started running from all the zeds that I called for dinner. Then I met another guy (I don't know if they were together) among some trees. We shot each other, he broke my leg but he died. I couldn't run and I had like 20 zeds going my way. We both had AKM's, so we made quite some noise. I killed a couple of them but I was bleeding, so I had to crawl to a tree to bandage myself and apply some morphine. Then, I waited there while the zombies walked around me, passing like 1 feet away from me, trying to find me, until they eventually gave up and started to slowly go away, one by one. I felt my heart was about to explode. Isn't there garbage inside the hospital? Like empty tin cans or empty soda cans? Try to throw them to the glass. It's the way to enter a hospital silently without switching to your hatchet. I used to be a good guy like you, but then I took an arroadaosasdghghhgh... I can't do it. Seriously though, don't be nice. There's scumbags everywhere. And the ones that are not scumbags just kill the people they meet before they shoot, or at least that's what I do. But yeah, that guy was an asshole. You could have killed him, but didn't, and he still went for the kill. Yeah, I think the Netherlands will be all right. Maybe it's already been asked, but will the EU server use the same hive as the US server? Anyway, nice work with the mod. I love the combat logging prevention you pulled off, and the loot changes make the game harder. Spawning without a backpack and removing the ALICE and Czech Backpack from civilian loot piles are some things that I don't know why Rocket hasn't done in vanilla. I'm still with an Assault Pack (12) and desperately searching the military sites for a better backpack. Anyway, thanks for this mod! I don't think I will be playing Vanilla until standalone. At least not in the Chernarus map.

There are more pending of an answer. He should fill water bottles with them and sell them to players for in-game currency. *shivers*

    It's something that has been answered a lot of times, and I can't believe someone with more posts than me on these forums doesn't know that, but I'll answer your question. It will use the DayZ engine. What this means is that it will have its own engine, tweaked to fit the needs of the game. Yes, it is based in the Take On Helicopters engine, which in turn is based in the Arma 2 engine. Expect it to look much better than Arma2, though. It will have ragdoll physics and some lighting and eye-candy features from Arma 3. Do you really think Arma2 looks bad, anyway? I think it looks pretty good. If anything, it could use some tweaking in some areas, like animations and AI pathing. It's not Crysis, but it's not bad either.
  8. You are a bandit that sneaks close to a survivor and hides behind bushes. You command that survivor to drop all his stuff. The guy notices where you are (direct communication is directional) and shoots you. You are behind cover, so he misses. You're free to kill him then. Noone breaks the rules, the survivor is being robbed/kidnapped. The bandit is being shot at. Other outcome of the same encounter can be that the survivor gets scared and tries to run. The bandit can then shoot.

    You've got some fair points in your post, but I think there's something shady about the way preorders and early access are being handled. I don't think it can be compared to what Minecraft did or to what DayZ is supposed to be doing in the future. The problem is that I bought the full, finished version of Minecraft 3 weeks ago (yeah, I'm late to that party) for a full price of 20€. The minimum that is asked for the pre-order beta version of WarZ is 19.42$. If you want to enter the alpha, you must pay 29.99$. Rocket said that DayZ is aiming for a price of no more than 30€ when it's fully released, and the alpha access is going to be cheap. That's the problem for me, WarZ developers are charging up to 49.99$ (full retail AAA title pricetag) for alpha access. And the incentives given to pay more than the basic pricetag are "ingame currency" and several months of "stronghold server hosting". It sounds like a money-grabbing strategy to me, so they can use DayZ's success to make quick cash, and then leave players with a sub-par product with poor support. I honestly understand that people are being cautious about WarZ. I'm interested, but I will not preorder because of all these things I've explained. If the game turns out to be legit and fun, I will probably buy it when it's released, but DayZ alpha will be out by then, so I don't think I'll have time to play any other games :P EDIT: Ok, so I didn't notice this is not the WarZ discussion thread, but I mentioned DayZ standalone too, so don't be mad at me :)

    Agree. I think they will release 1.7.3 "when it's done" and then pass the mod to the community. The standalone will then be released in alpha, but in a very advanced state, with all the features of the mod, plus the improved map and all the goodies than have been developed with the TOH engine until then. I sure want to see those cities full of accesible buildings and sweet ragdoll zombies. And duping and hacking gone, obviously. I certainly hope they abandon development of the mod and focus on the standalone.

    Fair enough, sir. You have a point. I still read these forums everyday, expecting amazing and fascinating news that only come from time to time. So I understand what you say about making expectations and not being able to fulfill them. I just decided to spend my spare time with other games until the stand alone is released, and play the mod just ocassionaly. That's why I can "bear the wait" (not that my life revolves around DayZ).

    Think of any other game that's in closed alpha, instead of open alpha. Do we get daily updates with information regarding the developing process? Weekly updates? Monthly updates? Oh yeah, we get 2 or 3 screenshot a month, and a couple of teaser trailers along the way until it's released. IF we are lucky. Let's thank DayZ Dev Team is so involved with its community at this state of development. And we even get to test the updates, broken or not. No offense intended, but I think people are spoiled by the rate of updates in early alpha, and are now asking too much.

    71: Q: Is DayZ standalone going to be distributed online at BIS website or is DayZ going to be a spinoff with it's own full identity and maybe a separate studio? A: I would like to run my own studio one day, but now is not the time. BIS is awesome and the natural partner for development of DayZ. Distribution is still TBC, but I would not expect a retail product anytime soon. It would be digital. ____________ I think my question will be answered with Q93. So close!

    I didn't see my question in there D: But I'll ask it as soon as the topic is open for business again. I agree with you, I love flares! The lighting of flares at night is awesome. I don't really care for how long the cycle is, as the important thing to me is that we have the same time zone across all servers. That means noone can "escape" to the safety of daylight. But also means that the day/night cycle should be short, so the people that can only play at one time in the day have a chance to play at daylight. A compomise is needed here, too short, and the inmersion is ruined. Too long, and some people would only be able to play at night or day, depending on their location and the time of day that they can play.

    Hey guys, I was thinking just a moment ago about something, and I don't recall it being mentioned anywhere by the devs. Maybe it's buried in any of the 61 pages of this thread but I don't have the time to go through them all. A forum search doesn't find anything either. The question is: Will the day/night cycle in stand alone stay 24 hours long as in the mod? Or will it be modified to some hours long, with a fixated hour across all servers? I love playing at night, even when I don't have NVG, but right now everytime it gets dark people change servers and the server gets empty. It's impossible to have the full experience at night time.

    I respect that, and I can understand using tents as caches of ammo or supplies to restock. But they lose that purpose when your character knows where they are right after he or she spawns. I don't think a middle ground will ever be achieved, it's a game, and a game cannot make the player forget about something. Realistic/authentic mod or not, metagaming will always be there. And whatever changes the devs do to tents at this point will cause an uproar. I'm just hoping that duping and scripting is indeed completely eradicated in stand-alone, so the tents full of high end weaponry and gear disappear, and only the legit caches remain. My point is that a character should not be able to loot its own body, and all tents should be wiped out upon death of its owner. It's not realistic, but it's a way to make death truly matter. Most people will not agree with me, though. Anyway, this is the 1.7.2.6 patch thread, not the suggestions subforum, so I'll shut up already.

    To all the people that say that the tents not saving kills the game for them: What are you? Pathological hoarders? (no offense intended) I understand that the tent bugs kill your way of playing this game, but seriously, what's the point of looting millions of items to put them inside a tent? Is it to instantly gear up when you die? I say that kills the purpose of death in this game. Make the game so that it's impossible to die, then. What's the point in dying anyway? I mean, without tents, you can be decently geared in about half an hour, 3 quarters tops, and that's not much longer than the walk up to your tents in the north. Ok, you won't find rangefinders or AS50's in an hour, but who need those, right? Everyone will steal my beans for saying this, but I would completely remove tents. I know that's not happening, but it's my opinion. On topic: I don't see any problems, graphical glitches have disappeared (although I said that same thing early with last patch), reloading magazines on login is still there when they're put in the backpack (that's impossible to fix until standalone, from what I heard from Rocket), and I can't say anything about tents or vehicles because I don't use them. The mod plays good enough for now. With most bugs almost taken care of, next thing: FEATURES! I want dogs or whatever, all buildings enterable (if that's even a word), ragdoll physics, female zombies, more skins, guillie suits and camo for the ladies, and lots and lots of other goodies, including whatever makes this game more difficult: harder zombies, harder enviromental hazards, increased high-end weapons scarcity (if there's still duping in standalone I will cry a lot)... In other words, WE WANT STANDALONE! PS.- I hope this post doesn't sound too angry, I'm just kidding. ROFLMAO

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.6

    It's been suggested already, but it can't hurt to say it once more. May I suggest a database wipe when it is confirmed that tents and vehicles now correctly save inventory? Maybe in 1.7.3, just to get rid of all the high tier weaponry and equipment that's everywhere nowadays. Thank you for the hotfix.

  23. Your character not saving seems to be related to playing in servers with a private hive (the central server that stores all DayZ characters), and not the official one. It happened to me once, starting with a brand new character, but after changing the server I had my previous character untouched.

    I'm liking the update so far. The graphical artifacts are gone for now. A thing that I noticed is that zombies are much more of a menace now. I shot 2 or 3 zeds to test if the tracking of ammo was fixed, and I got swarmed by 4 or 5 more. I shot them with an AKM and I ended up in a building with 15 or so zombies coming at me from each side. Awesome. Then went into the Stary Sobor military tents with a friend and got swarmed again, then we got killed by someone. We were testing, jerk! :P We respawned and were swarmed again two or three times. It was actually fun and challenging to get near loot sites, as you can't.shoot your way through zeds anymore. I think that they can see you and hear your footsteps from the same distance as 1.7.2.4, but gunshot hearing is seriously buffed. I love it. Can't comment on ammo tracking because I got killed before I disconnected, and we forgot to test it after that.
