Also, to all you guys saying there is no point to reporting servers because when they get one taken down they just open another, you gotta realize this costs them a good deal of cash, server hosting is $60-$100 a month + Setup fees, every time you knock one of their servers out you cost them money. Also note, breaking the rules once does not mean they will get shut down, just that they will get a strike against them, if they continue to misbehave they will be shut down with no refunds.

Had an admin kill my friend the other day so I showed up and rek'd him and his buddy, he was begging for his life as I had him on the ground with his hands up but I knew what he was doing, he was stalling while he got into the dev console so he could reset and save himself, that didn't happen. I yelled FUCK YOU as I blasted him and sure enough about 30 seconds later it reset, causing all of my friends gear to vanish with it. The admin then proceeded to reset the server every time we got on and spouted some shit over global chat about us being homosexuals so we went to his TS to discuss with him the error of his ways but he got a bit mad cause some harsh words were used. I showed him the rules for public hosting and he promptly banned me from the TS. He then began kicking us from the server over and over again so we emailed his provider and they shut it down lol. Its back up now and we love looting on it, I especially love when I see that he is playing because he knows us by name, we go to his server, get all the good loot, kill him when possible and there is nothing he can do about it but GIT GUD. This is how you fight asshole admins.

Pretty sure explosions have been gone since .57, possibly due to hackers using them a great deal in .56? I saw several carpet bombings in .56 but I've seen none since .57, landmines were in but didn't actually explode in .57, gas canisters and spray paint cans no longer caused explosions in fires and gas stations stopped exploding in .57 as well.

Leaving behind canteens filled with gas
DickCheney replied to Zardoz75's topic in General Discussion
Hey I think my buddies killed your buddy, shot a guy at that bus depot place where two cargo trucks spawn, he was trying to get a cargo truck out of the fenced in area when my guys found him and promptly killed him. So there they are, got his loot, got his truck, and one of my friends drinks his canteens only to find he was sick! Damn trickery, no big deal though we just kept him fed and hydrated until we found charcoal tabs, we did have to saline him twice though. I personally carry one of those little bottles of alcohol and pour it into canteens on the ground on occasion, you don't even have to pick them up. -
I gotta say I wasn't hyped for this patch, I was enjoying the infinite mags I kept finding and the duped gear I got off people I killed every single day. It was a different world, a different play style, but all good things must come to an end and like always I will adapt and overcome. Living off the land, exploring the far north to see if anything has changed, getting in the occasional gunfight, these are all things I expected of 0.59, instead I find myself constantly starting over due to bugs. Chapter One: Way Too Fuckin Chill. Some of you may have seen me post about this, my character was about 3 days old, roughly 12 hours of time in game had been spent on him and I gotta say, he was well set. An M4 with all the trimmings, a UMP with my preferred red-dot, a very nice all spring camo outfit and a cargo truck to call my own. Things were going quite well for me until I decided to test fire my UMP with an ACOG on it to see what kind of accuracy one could squeeze out of it (its actually very accurate, I could hit man sized targets at about 150 yards) I lined up my shot and pulled the trigger, seconds later I noticed my screen fill up with red letter messages: I am hypothermic I am hypothermic I am hypothermic I am hypothermic I am hypothermic What the hot hell is this? I mean I had been getting cold from time to time, and I was drenched most of the time, but I didn't even get a freezing warning? Not to worry, I thought, I always come prepared, out came the matches and a fire was blazing in no time. Only one problem, this wasn't your average cold, this was an EXTREME cold. Despite having a nice fire next to me I was not warming up, in fact, I was quickly on my way to death. I became desperate, I stood in the fire, I ate, I had my friend inject me with saline, I shot up with epipens, morphine, and threw back some anti-biotics for the hell of it, no help, I died moments later. Oh well, its DayZ, bugs will happen. I spawned in electro and made my way back to my body where my friend had stripped it clean in preparation for my return, the run took about 15 minutes and I nearly starved to death twice but with a decent knowledge of the map and some lucky breaks on food spawns I managed to get there and get all my gear back. Onward we march into oblivion. Chapter Two: Can't Stop Won't Stop. Myself and my two friends were somewhere between Stary and Kabanino when my rather observant friend noticed two players setting an ambush for us about 75 yards ahead. They were holed up in a large shed waiting for us to pass, likely so they could come in from behind and light us up. Unfortunately for them this would not be the way things went down. While two of my friends ran to the left of the shed I cut behind a hill to come up directly behind it, our would-be killers were non the wiser to this deception. I ran straight up to the wall of the shed and announced that they were surrounded. Some words were had about whether we were friendly and if we were going to kill them (we would likely have just stolen their gear and tied them up, maybe poisoned them and broken their legs for funsies but probably not execute them) I was discussing the terms of their surrender when suddenly my friend shouted "ONE MORE ON YOUR RIGHT" and began firing, aha, what a ruse! Fortunately he only manged to fire at me twice with some form of shotgun before my friend lit him up and sent him running into town for cover. With my legs broken and a great deal of color gone I was a little upset at my situation and the loss of my pretty hunter pants so I enlightened my two would be hostages in the barn on something I'd known all along: most walls can now be fired through. With one mag dump from my UMP they were no more. I then proceeded to go unconscious from blood loss and my friends ran to my rescue, unfortunately, my unconscious body was on autopilot and crawling away from the scene. They tried many tactics to save me, from laying down in front of my determined body while one tried to patch me up to hitting me in the head a few times. Nothing worked, my body pushed onward into the forest where I eventually bled to death. Another death, another bug, only this time we still had one hostile unaccounted for, they couldn't strip my body and wait for me, too risky, they instead decided to salvage what they could and hide my body. Chapter Three: Highway to Hell With what was left of my gear back in my possession and a new found joy of stealing trucks from bases people set up around the tent city we were back in business with a fleet of V3S trucks and a love of placing green barrels in fluffy pine trees all over the map, what joy! While on our way out of Novaya Petrovka we encountered one more fun bug, the funnest of them all. Myself and my friend had been out riding in our V3S, on our way back to one of our outlying bases with a truck full of farming supplies and clothing, all was well, all was quiet, and then it happened. While traveling west on the highway we made a right turn at Toploniki and suddenly we both cut to black, You are Dead. No sound, no shots fired, no crunch, just the sound of the truck slowing to a stop but continuing to idle, until our sound cut out completely. We had a friend nearby, about 15 minutes away, he headed to the scene to see what went down but only found one of our backpacks and a great deal of gear laying around. Whoever had found our two bodies obviously didn't take the truck as they left a UMP, an AUG, and a rather nice M4 there as well as about 1000 rounds of 5.56 and 600 rounds of .45 in ammo cans. What happened to us? What happened to the truck? I don't know, I never saw that truck again but a new one spawned at the quarry outside Severograd, a white V3S just like ours, in an area we had already checked for a truck. Now I know from previous patches with persistent trucks that when a truck was destroyed it respawned in a random V3S spawn point, I can only assume that is what happened here, did our truck fall through the earth leaving only our bodies? Did the truck just vanish? Or did someone manage to kill us without a sound and inexplicably decide to leave the truck's inventory filled with garden lime and clothes instead of taking the vast amount of ammo and guns left at the scene? I'll never know. What I do know is that I am tired of this patch already. I am tired of bugs, I am tired of unfinished games. Early access is one of the worst things to happen to PC gaming and I hope someday we will realize that, in the meantime I think, after 1190 hours in this game, I will place it back on the shelf until it is a bit more mature or until the devs abandon it entirely and a competent modding community provides what it has so desperately needed for the past year. Wake me up when 0.59 comes out.

3 Deaths, 3 Bugs, 1 Tired Player: A Story of 0.59
DickCheney replied to DickCheney's topic in General Discussion
Tl;DR: Death 1: Hypothermia bug, could not warm up no matter what I did. Death 2: Moving while unconscious bug, body crawled away and bled to death while my friends watched helplessly. Death 3: Random instant death bug, just driving alone and both mine and my friends screens cut to black, no crunch, no shots, no sounds at all, just dead. -
Myshkino Tents is where its at, I set up in the hills with my binos to do overwatch for my two comrades inside the city, one was shot and crippled within 5 minutes, killed a few minutes later by someone spawning in a tent behind him while he was applying a splint. Other friend bugged out. We have been watching it on several servers and doing hit and runs to see who we can kill and what loot we can get quick, every time we go there are at least 2-5 people within the tent city, 2-5 snipers on the east or west hills, and always people server hopping in to the outlying areas. Its a whole lot of fun to go in there and cause havoc, we actually stole two trucks people thought they had hidden well earlier, they were not pleased.

Now its not too bad at all on low pop to medium pop servers but on full 50 person servers it is unbelievably bad for me, even though it says I am getting 30-60 ping. People are skidding all around the place, warping out of buildings, I've gotten in fist fights with people and knocked them out when they were just standing in one place only to have their unconscious body go sliding 50 feet away, hell I got killed by an axe guy today when on my screen I was chasing him and he was a good 15 ahead of me. This patch probably should not have left exp, it really needed a few more weeks work with a competent dev team or a few months with Bohemia.

looking for something different to do? help combat server hoppers
DickCheney replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
Server hopper here, only a fool doesn't scope out the area before looting it out. We've killed a few campers such as yourselves, always a fun time. -
My friend with the saline also came down with Hypothermia on the way to me, he is now doomed. I will try some of these suggestions.

This isn't a case of maintenance or whatever, its a case of the server host not paying the bill and the server access being suspended until they do, if they ever do. A lot of servers went dark after the new loot system was implemented and most of them never came back, my favorites list was scrollable before the update, now it fills up about 2/5 of the page. The majority of the player base didn't enjoy the direction in which the devs were taking the game and they lost interest, they stopped playing, the servers they played on stopped filling up, the server owners no longer saw a need to keep an empty server when servers for this game are outrageously expensive, the server owners either ran out of money, will, or donations for the server and it shut down. The devs tried to backpeddle and throw in the old loot system to appease the players but it doesn't seem to have worked, I used to have about 15 friends that played DayZ regularly, in the week after the updated that number dropped to 2, hell I've even stopped playing it, I haven't been on in a week. As far as your question "Why can't they just leave the server and all the data there, but revoke the admin privelages of the previous "owner?"", its not that simple, the DayZ team does run some official servers, they generally start with a state abbreviation and a number, these servers should always be up so long as the weekly maintenance isn't underway but few people play on them as there are no admins to stop hackers or dupers. Servers take up space, its a physical object, like a computer devoted to hosting games, these servers aren't limitless and they cost money to run and power. The cost for DayZ servers is unusually expensive but I think that has more to do with the fact that like 3 companies have a monopoly on it, the DayZ team will only allow those few companies to host their servers and those companies charge about $80 a month for the cheapest server.

>desync of players Worse than ever right now, its pretty bad even on like 20 person servers, basically anything over 10 people and you shouldn't expect to be able to shoot most people at anything over 100 yards >hackers Not as bad as they were at the end of 2014 but still bad, I never see them in private servers but have heard reports from friends of carpet bombings, thats all they seem to do now, steal your gear or carpet bomb. >glitching zombies They don't seem to run through doors but they do still hit through walls sometimes. They updated everything about the zombies and they are stupid hard to kill now, like 5 hits with a fireaxe hard. Current zombies are fast, hardhitting, and fast hitting, if one gets close it can hit you three or four times before you can even get your fists up. Don't bother with melee anymore, just punch them in the face or shoot them, about five hits to the face kills them. >weird lag for picking up items Varies from server to server, some full servers have issues, some don't, some are so bad its unplayable. Low pop servers are alright though. >and fps Just as bad as always, maybe a little worse. What you really need to ask about is forced persistence and the new loot system they implemented and then took away because the game took a nosedive and lost like 80% of its players over the course of a week, when that shit comes back things are gonna be bonkers, expect most servers to go dark after that and the game to pretty much become irrelevant within a few months.

I don't care if the loot system wasn't 100% ready
DickCheney replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
Do you know how low the server population got? Servers were dropping left and right. This was simply bad for business and it was a really dumb move. It is obvious that the majority of the player base DOES NOT WANT THIS, if you want the game to be successful then try to please as many players as you can, its very simple, the game is not about what the devs want, its not about what the designers want, its about what the players want. You all can stop whining about this, they will throw in their broken loot system in a month or two and we'll go through it all over again. -
I've lost a great many of my favorite private hives, Chicago, Mob Society, Wolfs Den, Eve, and about 15 others dropped off my favorites list in the weeks after the update. The simple answer is that the direction the devs were heading with the game was only fun for a minority of the players and thus, the majority left the game, the server owners didn't see a point in owning a server no one ever got on so they shut them down. DayZ population seems to be at an all time low, even at prime time the numbers are pitiful. I wonder if the devs will continue their forward march in this heavily PVE direction or if they will take notice of what the majority want and make a game that the majority of their customers would be happy with. Probably no point now, even after they removed their sorry new loot system the numbers have still stayed low, they probably burnt thousands out on this game.
-
The server population is at an all time low because: 1. The hacker problems of last year drove away scores of players 2. The game is headed in a direction that heavily limits the ways you can play the game 3. The game was quite hard to begin with, it has a learning curve and new players have a very hard time getting anywhere, now they have no chance and will likely become uninterested in playing the game before they are able to master the learning curve like the rest of us did. As it stands now, there is only one way to play this game, spawn on the coast, hope you can find enough food to make it inland, start farming and hunting. Thats it, thats all the game has to offer right now, PVP is dead because who wants to risk that shit? Everyone avoids everyone now and if they can't avoid them they just ignore each other because goddammit I need these rounds for zombies, not a shootout with you and your friend. In .54 there were many ways to play the game, spawn on the coast in a high pop server and fight with melee or fists, form a band of cannibals and take over Kamy using nothing but sharpened sticks, go to the prison island and fight for you life like never before, attempt to sneak through the large cities and score some loot or maybe get a ninja kill on someone and loot their gear, grab a few supplies at a freshspawn town and then head inland for survival. Now that last one is your only option and yeah its fun, yeah I enjoyed it for a little bit but it got old, I manged to get a good setup, all the stuff I needed within a day or two but now what? Wait till I get killed by a glitch? Wait till I run into someone? Once you have done this a few times it just gets old and theres no reason to play anymore. Server options would provide opportunities for all of us, want a server with lots of loot for PVP? Turn the loot number up. Want some PVE? Turn the loot way down. Want some PVZ? Turn the loot and zombies up. Want some Hardcore PVEVERYTHING? Turn loot down and the zombies up. I enjoy play the game in many different ways, sometimes I fight on the prison island, sometimes I go shoot zombies, sometimes I bash freshspawn's skulls in with a baseball bat and proclaim Solnichny to be my kingdom, sometimes I move inland and avoid everyone and everything. I like to have options. I also want to make it clear, a lot of people are simply saying "ADAPT, OVERCOME, GET GUD, BE BETTER AT THE GAME" and I get that, yeah we have all played it a lot and we think we are hot shit, hell I am 1000 hours in, I've been everywhere, I've killed hundreds of people, I've done everything in this game that you can do, I can start out on the coast right now and be geared up with an auto weapon and mags in a day or two depending on how the loot goes but it just isn't fun to do that over and over, the end game has been removed.
-
So.. when are we going to actually shoot people who aren't still?
DickCheney replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
The replies here are so typical of these forums, someone has a valid complaint about the game, something that definitely needs work, and the consensus is "you are doing it wrong, play the game my way" This game is a shooter, it will always be a shooter, yes it has survival but the game is built around guns and fighting, not having people teleporting and skipping around the map is important. You don't know how many times I have been able to cheat and see the location of people because the server allowed their character to warp through a wall for two seconds when they were really just walking near the wall, I've even killed people while they were doing it and to them they never actually walked into my line of sight. -
You poor fuckers. I can only imagine how many people are starting the game for the first time and leaving it forever because of this broken update, the coast is a barren wasteland right now.
-
As others have said, I won't go into details but there are A LOT of buildings you can clip through if you know where and how to look for vulnerable spots. TheRunningManZ recently put out a video where he downed a couple of guys who were doing this at vyborg military base, pretty good watch.

No NATO crashsites on non persistent servers?
DickCheney replied to raynor009's topic in General Discussion
I find about half and half, ready to get jelly though? Yesterday I spawned in on a non persistent private at NWAF because the server reset while I was there the day before and I shit you not, 100 feet ahead of me was a nato smoker, looted it up, got an M4, two red dots, smersh, and two mags. Sweet fucking find man, right? Well I ran to vyborg and found a truck, drove down the road a bit and just south of vyborg past that town with the church I found another nato smoker just a little ways past the gas station, at this one I found two M4s, a coupled stanag and several 20 rounders, and a BUIS iron sight. Geared up all three of my friends with M4s, two of them with red dots, in under half an hour. Probably my luckiest find in my 700 hours. Funnest part? I wasn't even hunting helis, I was just trying to get down to the coast to pick up some friends who just started playing. -
Before we start off I'd like to say I am very experienced with the V3S, I have been driving it extensively since it first came out and I have a pretty good feel for when they change something in it. Over the last two days I have found three trucks that just would not go, the first one I found in SW military base and I couldn't even get enough speed or power to get up either road out of the base. The other two I have found have been between Vyborg and Zeleno, they are the same as other trucks, full tank of gas, in their regular spawn areas, no signs of being shot up, all tires present, but just have no power as if something is holding it back. I manged to get one of these trucks to the NWAF to test its flat ground speed and without holding shift my top speed was a cunt hair over 30kph, while holding shift it was exactly the same. I also tested acceleration and holding shift did nothing for that either. I've tried logging out and logging back in and that fixed nothing, I shot out a few of the tires and that did nothing, I rammed it with another truck and that did nothing. The only test I have not done is seeing if another person experiences the same problem with the truck as I do but I will try to do that today. To be clear, this has only happened with a handful of trucks, over the last 3 days I've probably driven 20 trucks, only 3 had this issue.
-
Goddammit we bought a fucking private shard to escape the incompetence of the useless battleye and hackers, now every week our characters get reset. I understand its alpha but for fucks sake its twice in a fucking row now, leave the goddamn private shards alone you retarded mongoloids. Release the fucking server hosting so we can host our own shit away from your incompetence, I mean you already leaked the source so you might as well release the rest and end the server hosting monopoly. Fucking dayz, never has an alpha been more painful and long lasting.

Server names with "don't join" "unstable server" "character reset" etc
DickCheney replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
Its because they are duping, if you join the server at the wrong time you will likely be kicked by an admin. Admins can dupe so long as they have another person, all you have to do is manually reset the server via a command and then boom, if you did the thing you were supposed to do before resetting then you have just duped all of your items. Many of us have done it by mistake while messing with our stuff just before a restart on persistent servers, its the same basic principle. A server by the name of dnalibmaB or Bambiland does this regularly, they have been duping since the good old days when it was as simple as shooting someone as they logged out, the clan associated with this server is FonZ which is comprised mostly of children (big surprise). We have raided their duped bases full of duped gear multiple times for maximum lulz. If you log into this server when they are doing it you will be kicked within minutes, if you are lucky you will go unnoticed long enough to see them duping, the screen goes black out of nowhere, "Please Wait" appears, after about 30 seconds you spawn back in where you were about 1 to 2 minutes ago, the world takes about one minute to get running, zombies don't agro in this time, its very peaceful. Another interesting server, R22R or Royal22 private hive, will occasionally go become locked just before prime time. When it unlocks all of the R22R guys will be very well geared and generally holding down a major city and challenging others to try and fight them their which is not a good call seeing as they are generally 20 strong or better. Doesn't really matter to me, if you own the server I don't really care what you do, its yours. Only place I draw the line is kicking people for killing you, if you got deaded fair and square then don't get all butthurt about it. -
Trucks which get stuck in the water or driven off the map float back to the surface on persistent servers after a restart. Its pretty funny because on a lot of persistent servers you will usually see at least one truck floating around the prison island.

Don't fuckin put them in bears, like 50% of all bear spawns have paper in them, ain't now one got time to look through all that, put them somewhere that paper doesn't belong such as the middle of the road.

Disappearing furniture and the unbutcherable pig
DickCheney replied to PhillyT's topic in General Discussion
When performing any action such as skinning or crafting, hold W right before you press F to start the action, hold W through the entire action and do not press any other buttons, when the animal has vanished or your item has been crafted you are good to go. Its worked for me since .52, try it out. I even use it on drinking water bottles because for some reason they don't work on some servers.
