Game runs smoothly then freezes for a second and then the fps goes to about 5
BleedoutBill replied to dwell571's topic in Troubleshooting
I periodically had similar freezing/stuttering problem. The frame rate would be chugging along at 25-30FPS and then it would suddenly drop into the low single digits. This seemed to coincide with a lot of hard drive activity. I assumed that the game was struggling with loading textures, but we all know what happens when we assume, eh? So, a couple of updates ago I deleted all of my local content and downloaded a fresh copy of the game to a SSD. This has solved my problem, but whether it was the fresh install, or the SSD is anyone's guess. -
Cleaning is quick and cheap, but ... +1 on checking your power supply.

How to set 21:9 Aspect Ratio for ultra-wide monitor ?
BleedoutBill replied to gorynych's topic in Troubleshooting
I believe that Powerhouse is suggesting that you manually edit your DayZ configuration file. By default it is located in the DayZ folder, which may be found in your Documents folder. The name of the file is DayZ.CFG and you can edit it using notepad. You may want to consider making a back-up copy of this file, before you do anything, though. Cheers! -
Yes, I play on two different computers, with different settings on each and I have a second copy of the game. As I said initially, the game is cheap and my Internet connection is ridiculously slow. I just downloaded Far Cry 4 and it took nearly forty hours, if that gives you any idea of what I have to deal with. With two computers I can play on one, while the other is updating. With only one copy of the game, it literally takes me hours to change back and forth between stable and experimental. Hours that could be better spent dispatching zeds to their final reward. Mine is an extreme situation, so YMMV. This solution may not be for everyone, but it works for me, as I have a special circumstance.

I am stuck in a loop! What's the secret handshake?!?!?! OK, I just updated to the latest 0.51 stable. Before playing, I launched FRAPS and decided to get a little more serious about raising my frame rate. I turned clouds down, disabled ambient occlusion, etc., etc. and then launched the game. I spawned, took about six steps and then I got a popup that says "Confirmation of Changes ... Authentication Timeout." When I click the "Continue" button it takes me back to the main menu. So, I click "Play" ... "Spawning in 59 seconds ..." spawn and then in about thirty seconds, whether I move, or not I get a popup that says "Confirmation of Changes ... Authentication Timeout." Sometimes, just before I spawn I get the popup that says "Confirmation of Changes ... Authentication Timeout." I initially made about four, or five changes to my configuration, but I have made about fifteen trips around this loop. Does anyone know how to stop the madness, or do I need to submit a help ticket?

Or ... you could sign yourself up for a second Steam account. DayZ is still cheap and a second Steam account costs exactly 0. If you have a really slow connection (like me) this saves a lot of time waiting for those pesky downloads to finish. Twice the fun!

Same here. I have a "Failed to start game (missing executable)" message. I verified the integrity of my game cache and all checks out OK. Perhaps the servers have been updated, but the experimental patch has not yet been pushed to Steam? IDK. Either way, my stable version is updating now. -

I have problems with extremely low frame rates from time to time, but that seems to be server specific. These "problem" servers give me low FPS, regardless of how many survivors are logged on. On these servers I am lucky to max out at a dozen FPS; on other servers I average in the mid thirties. -
Agreed, if I can easily see movement at 300m, then there is no reason why a zed shouldn't have the same capability. Also, I find that I can get to within one, or two meters behind a zed, when crouched, before he alerts to me. Surely sound plays a part in this scenario, as opposed to vision. The thing that rubs me the wrong way is that the zeds can see me in buildings, when crouched. I'm not complaining about being seen through a low, first floor window, but their ability to see me through walls, when I am crouched on the upper floors of a building.

Zeds can die face down, now! The first time I ran into this, I kept whacking him with my ax, for fear that he was going to get right back up. He didn't, of course. But if any one was watching, it must have looked pretty comical.

Just found one on the wreck at Rify.

You didn't happen to assist them in becoming corpses, now did you? Maybe a little?

I was experiencing small freezes as well. Anecdotally, these freezes seemed to be accompanied by a spike in hard drive activity. For grins, I moved my install to an old SSD that was sitting around, gathering dust. While I still have a freeze from time to time (no doubt due to my geriatric AMD processor), they are now few and far between.

Re: concern #2. I intermittently ran into this problem in experimental, three nights ago. So, this issue is not specific to today's release.

+1 on dev communication. Thanks!

The Derringer is chambered for .45. I have to agree with the the spurious sounds, such as chewing, opening soda cans and zed growling. They are very disconcerting. I'm not so sure what causes the first two, but I suspect the growling I heard last night was from a zed that I had just killed, only I guess he wasn't ready to go quite then. After killing him I continued to scavenge and afterwards I came back to "the scene." As I approached the corpse, the growling got louder. After I left the building, there was no more growling. Having said all that, there are other priorities, such as zeds walking through walls (better, but still glitched) that need to be addressed. I was in a train box car in Severo last night and I unintentionally backed through the end wall of the car and suddenly found myself standing on the tracks! It's alpha, so don't misconstrue this as complaining. I'm simply making some observations. -

I spawned in Berezino last night and I went to the construction sight. I didn't find any firearms, but there were six of everything else that you could possibly want. Definitely one stop shopping! +1 on the p/u trucks. Found a double barreled shotgun and a double barreled rifle. -

Don't forget that the current build was intended to be a stable release. I am sure that the devs have something devious waiting for us in experimental v0.051. Also, I seem to recall a previous post, where that OP said that he walked from Electro to the NEAF (or similar) and his shoes did degrade during that trip. -

Agreed, both server and client were quite stable for me. Additionally, several aspects of the game have been tuned and/or fixed. It was actually quite pleasant to play. It's a big step in the right direction from the earlier v0.50! -

I did not take it into inventory, but I did pick up a chemlight. I snapped it and, as expected, it lit my surroundings. A few seconds later I dropped it and the light extinguished immediately. -

I've been lurking a while, hello everyone. Yeah, I experienced the sick status. I was out wandering around in the rain and my coat became ruined. Shortly thereafter, I became sick. I holed up inside a house and had a bite to eat, followed by a sip from the canteen. The sick status went away and did not return. I haven't seen anyone else mention it, but I have been struggling with the cold. If I don't find an ax, matches, kindling, etc. in time, extreme blurred vision sets in and then I have no hope of finding matches, identify danger, or even keep track of my location as I stumble into fences and buildings. I haven't seen a heat pack yet, but they sure would come in handy! Cheers!
