They are definitely tougher. They also move more quickly, so they are a much more difficult target to hit. Obviously, desync doesn't help, either.

I managed to do that a couple of months ago, but I haven't been able to do it since. I guess I haven't been able to find the secret passage.

    Stable Branch - 0.55 Discussion

My recollection is that, it has been the stated intention of the devs all along, that they would enable persistence just as soon as the CLE was turned on. Now that they have enabled both, our mission (should we decide to accept it) is to play and submit bug reports, so that the bugs can be addressed and the tuning can occur, keeping in mind that the bulk of the tuning will happen only after we get to the beta stage. It is not the purpose of an alpha build (any alpha build, no matter what you label it) to to provide us with uninterrupted sunshine and butterflies. We are crash test dummies and we need to embrace that fact, or move on. No one likes change, but for progress to occur, change is necessary. As the game evolves, we have to evolve with it. We have to improvise, adapt and overcome. We still have a long way to go and we will encounter a countless variety of bugs, ranging from the serious to the minor, along the way. With the right attitude, there is no reason why we can't have a little fun at the same time. Granted, not everyone can deal with the changes, or they may more readily adapt to some changes better, than others. That is to be expected. But all of this rage and the personal attacks contribute nothing positive and it certainly solves nothing. I know that it's not always easy. But please ... please try to submit a bug report before you rage quit. If you are going to take a break from the game (and there's nothing wrong with that), if you can do it dispassionately, please share your experiences and let us know what happened. Bear in mind, though, that no one is amused if you stamp your feet and throw your toys out of your stroller. You will either be attacked, or ignored. Speaking of labels for the various builds, someone else said it pretty well, earlier today (paraphrasing): Dev speak: Experimental Translation: This shit may actually cause your PC to burst into flames. Dev speak: Stable Translation: Your shit may not burst into flames, but some seriously crazy shit is about to happen. Until we get to a release build, that is the reality. TL/DR: Chill and document the crazy shit that you see.

I'm saddled with a crummy DSL connection, so I've had to do this all along. It definitely minimizes these issues. It doesn't "fix" them, but it does bring them to a tolerable level.

    Exp Update: 0.55.127129

Thanks for the tip, I really appreciate it. I made several attempts to pick it up, but I didn't think to crawl under it and then stand. Since I was well within sight of a chopper crash, all I could picture, was a couple of geared guys driving up on me, in a V3S. My heart was pounding and I could take only so much of the anxiety, so I HAD to move on. This game can really yank on your emotions; it was definitely a bad feeling!

    Exp Update: 0.55.127129

It's good to hear that your connection was more stable than last night. I had awesome pings and server performance, but very little company on the server. I think most people were put off by all of the rain. Without exaggeration, it must have rained for 80% of the time. I saw a dozen, or more people log on and then within 5-10 minutes they would log back off. The rain is pretty punishing, if you are hungry and you don't have the proper attire. Loot was pretty much hit and miss for me. In some places it was sparse and in others, it was adequate. I didn't see anything approaching an abundance. Reading between the lines, the devs may intend for this to be the new normal, now that they have a more granular control over the distribution. I only found one chopper crash and it was picked clean. On build #4 I kept finding P1 pistols and CR75 magazines. The last two nights, I found both CR75 and 1911 pistols, but only P1 magazines! God help the zeds, if I ever get this sorted out, because I also found a pistol suppressor. The only thing that upset me tonight was losing my repeater. I was next to a bush and I set the repeater down (the reason escapes me at the moment) and when I tried to pick it up, I couldn't. It was stuck in the bush in plain sight, about 0.5m off of the ground, but I couldn't get a prompt to pick it back up. So, there I was, with nothing but a fire ax and a pistol with no magazine. I felt naked without my repeater and I really didn't want to melee with any zeds without something more persuasive, so I headed to the nearby Vybor military base. Luckily, I found a SKS, but there was no ammunition there, whatsoever. Like the nearby chopper crash, it had been picked clean and I found nothing else of any value. I had to go all the way to the Myshkino military camp to find some 7.62x39mm ammo.

Yes, and if my ping is greater than 125ms and I have massive desync and rubber banding, then that's just tough, right?

Confirmed. The SMERSH vest that I found was about twice that distance from the chopper. It was VERY difficult to see in the grass.

Additionally, have you noticed that rather than just pace back and forth, they now have a regular routine, as if exploring? Their path can be quite lengthy and I've even seen them casually wander in and out of houses, while looking for their next meal.

Stamina is planned for introduction sometime in Q2, but so far only zeds seem to have stamina. Since we haven't seen player stamina in 0.55 exp, it's pretty unlikely that it will pop up in 0.55 stable. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/215848-dayz-moving-into-2015/

Brian Hicks @Hicks_206 · 25m 25 minutes ago Quarterly Status Report will go live with 0.55 Stable, just a matter of grinding out the rough spots. One wonders if enough rough spots will be ground by tomorrow ...

    Exp Update: 0.55.127129

The loot economy seems to have been improved pretty significantly over ver #4. The invisible fruit and veggies is kinda weird, but most of us already know the typical spawn locations for these. Small, seemingly insignificant changes, almost always have unintended consequences. No one should be surprised that changes to a major component, such as the new zeds, would not be perfect for the first few iterations.

My CPU is 180°F (85°C) HOT!

As you might imagine, there is solvent available, that is specifically designed for cleaning thermal paste, but rubbing alcohol and a lint-free cloth is all you really need. In your situation, I wouldn't recommend spending the money on a CPU upgrade. I also have an AM3 board and I've looked into the available AMD CPUs. The difference in performance is just not be worth the expense. Wait until you are ready to replace the mobo.

Very strange. The US servers that I've been on are going closer to two hours between resets. EDIT: It looks like I was on US3-02 for most of the night, tonight.

    Exp Update: 0.55.127129

I can't deal with the desynch and the rubber banding, so I've been playing on the lowest ping servers that I can find. Granted, they weren't full pop tonight, but they certainly were stable. In your experience, about how many players does it take to make the server unstable?

    Exp Update: 0.55.127129

I've seen them before, but I've never possessed either one. I just found a smoker with both a combat (scarce as hen's teeth) knife and a SMERSH (holy freakin' grail) vest on board. That's right, the vest ... in all of its olive drab glory. This calls for a Kvass (or two)! I'm typing this from an undisclosed location, so don't bother trying to find me. Now for 0.55 to exact its revenge! Just because I know that this game is out to screw me, doesn't mean that I'm paranoid!!! Wait a minute ... shhh! ... what was that noise?!?!?!

    Exp Update: 0.55.127129

Granted, this was last night, so it was build #4, but I was in Pavolo looking for the well. I came around a corner and found myself nose to nose with a zed. I busted a couple of caps in his ass and continued to the well, which was only about 10m away. By the time I was finished with my first drink, the body was gone. When I finished my third drink and started off on my way, the zed was already on patrol again.

    Exp Update: 0.55.127129

This is yet another example of the devs being damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they have too many zeds and the server restarts every five minutes, then they are a bunch of incompetent assholes. If they don't have enough zeds, then they are incompetent assholes who are hiding something. The reality is that we have a completely new zed controller, new zed AI and new zed animations. All of which are the first iteration and they need to mesh together seamlessly. There are bound to be problems, lots of them. To the extent that the devs can remove a few zeds (if in fact that is what they have done - the unofficial change log suggests otherwise), make the game playable for us and still gather the necessary diagnostic data, then I say good on 'em. Also, don't forget all of the legacy components that the devs are still juggling. There is a metric shit ton of crap that hasn't yet been ported over to the new technology. All of this is putting a giant strain on the hardware. It's not the zeds, exclusively, that are causing the issues. The devs have a pretty serious juggling act on their hands right now.

    Exp Update: 0.55.127129

The unofficial change log indicates that there are several new zed spawn locations, so it would seem that they have been spread out a bit.

On second thought, I think he may be talking about the renderer. The devs had originally set a goal to have it implemented by the end of March. If that is the case, then no. The new renderer is not yet in the game, but Brian is expected to give us an update on its status, any day now ... probably tomorrow.
