Hicks sheds some light on the past couple of Exp builds and what they are trying to accomplish: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/225029-status-report-14-may-15/#entry2263681

The new hunting scope got buffed! Brian Hicks @Hicks_206 @nam10291 12x I believe - that right @ctorchia ? Czech Republic 5:58 AM - 14 May 2015 Chris Torchia @ctorchia 2h2 hours ago @Hicks_206 @nam10291 something like that. It was only 3 or 4x when it was first released but we bumped it up.

I've had several items disappear when picking them up. They don't go into my hands, or my inventory and a search of the immediate area comes up empty.
-
I was just watching. They come up for two, or three minutes and then they're gone again. Time to take a break ...
-
The way things tend to disappear lately, you're awful brave!
-
I was having problems like that with rags, on the previous build. Sometimes they would disappear all together and sometimes they would appear in my inventory an hour later. I think a few other folks mentioned it, too.

That was fun while it lasted. I got a Cherno spawn and I didn't get shot, or eaten! I know that's hard to believe, but it's true!!! Things just clicked, I was able to make a courier bag almost immediately. I found a Mosin & stripper clip, a water bottle and a few other basics within the first fifteen minutes, or so. I haven't found any melee weapons, or warm clothes yet, so there are still some things left to do. Still, I hope that this character doesn't get wiped for a little while longer. He more than makes up for the last one that I struggled with for so long.

I haven't lost my courier bag ... yet.

It looks like the devs have some 64-bit code queued up for us: https://steamdb.info/app/221100/history/

Just about all of the Exp servers went down about two hours ago. If you can see one, it's probably locked-up/crashed.

From the May 06 Status Report: Tied with the 0.56 update to Stable branch, we'll see a hive wide reset (public/private) - including local storage data (player camps, vehicles) http://dayz.com/blog/status-report-06-may-15

It looks like they pulled the Exp servers dowwn again.

That is a very good point and yet another reason why I gravitate towards Exp. I don't ever remember having a negative interaction on Exp. On the other hand, 90-95% of my interactions on Stable degenerate into some sort of psycho-malevolent silliness. Thanks for being classy, boys and girls!

A lot of love went into the NW corner of the map. I really enjoy spending time up there.

Agreed, I come to Exp to explore and to survive under what are typically very challenging conditions. My preference is to have zeds and animals, but at the end of the day, the purpose for Exp is to gather data, so that problems can be solved. If I can be a part of that and have a bit of fun at the same time, then count me in.

Bus barn, eh? Thanks for the tip!

What next development milestone gets you most excited?
BleedoutBill replied to ebrim's topic in General Discussion
I don't quite know where to start. There are so many exciting developments on the horizon, which will enhance the game in so many important ways. This is my short list: CLE with regional control - we are living through this right now and it can be a pretty bumpy road, until this mechanic if fully implemented and tuned. Dynamic events - this will add a sorely needed element of unpredictability and keep the game fresh. Animal predators - Even when you are completely alone in the deep forest, there should always be an element of danger. Animal companions - I think there is a lot of potential here that has never really been explored in other games. New character controller and the elimination of legacy mechanics - New character capabilities and a significant performance boost ... what's not to like? New renderer with DX12 implementation - proper culling, advanced particle effects (fog anyone?) and a significant performance boost. I might very well feel differently tomorrow, but if I had to pick just one today, it may be the character controller and the elimination of legacy mechanics. I really liked the jumping teaser that was posted. Limping and other animations will be awesome. I would like to be able to eat, without standing up. I would like to be able to do more than one thing at a time, such as walking while eating an apple. In general, more fluid motions and the smooth transition between actions will be a very welcome development. -
Now that I can understand! Cheers!

You sound pretty desperate, if you are killing people for their sewing kit. :D

Potassium Nitrate as a Fertilizer or component to a homemade Smoke Bomb

Butane - what's the chance that this is a precursor to having lighters in-game? -
Keep the populace calm and in the dark, because there is no way that they can evacuate in time?

Weekly maintenance has already been completed, so not today.

Eugen Harton @eugenharton · 33m33 minutes ago All experimental servers should be now visible in server list, have fun! Several folks have already tweeted to him that the US and some other servers are not visible.

I expect that your latency must be an absolute hell! Last night I didn't see any server crashes. I was getting messages at both fifteen minutes before and five minutes before a restart. When I see the fifteen minute warning I make a plan. When I see the five minute message, I get the hell off, as soon as possible. To which servers do you generally get the best connection?

Many things in life are decidedly not fun, but frequently they provide a sense of satisfaction for a job well done. The very premise of this game (surviving an apocalypse) has nothing, whatsoever to do with fun. Therefore, I fundamentally disagree that every aspect of the game must be fun, otherwise it is somehow a failure. A lot of people are picking on apples (no pun intended) because that mechanic is tedious. They then attempt to condemn the entire game by association. As has already been pointed out, there are many different ways to survive and in a survival game, none of them should be trivial. Eating apples is completely optional and it is not a requirement. There are many different ways to secure nourishment and each should have its own risks and benefits. The benefits of apples are obvious, but what are the risks? They can't shoot shoot you, they can't attack and eat you, they can't trick you into thinking they are your friend, only to kill you in your sleep. No, the risk is that in order to collect apples, you must expose yourself and allow yourself to become extremely vulnerable, usually in a relatively urban, or suburban area (in other words, there will likely be zeds and other players nearby), for a significant amount of time. It is a very risky tactic to stand, or sit still in the open for any significant length of time. It is worse still, if you are not able to have a weapon in your hands, while doing it. When I pick apples, I do not feel bored. What I do feel is paranoia and the more apples I pick, the more paranoid I become. If I can fill a pack with apples and that provides the fuel that I need to reach the next town, I first feel an immediate sense of relief, followed by the satisfaction of completing the task without getting my head blown off. TL/DR - It is necessary to engage in very risky behavior, in order to pick apples, so I only collect them as a last resort. I'd rather melee with a zed than sit exposed under an apple tree, for any significant length of time.
