Thanks for the renderer update. The hold breath example videos ... they are being displayed as *.jpg images for me?!?!?! I appreciate the FOV explanation. I typically like to be around 90 degrees. The last I saw the new UI, there were no degree markings on the slider. I hope that this has been addressed. I agree that the aim FOV should be the same for everyone, regardless of our individual preferred FOV. Thanks for making the extra effort on this.

how to navigate to big cities without signs/compass/map when it is day?

I waited for the release of Watch Dogs and I watched the reviews. It was pretty clear that the game was a pile of dog poo, so I didn't buy it. Same with ACU and the same with Arkham Knight. No more preorders for me! If the developers don't give a shit about their product, then neither do I, so I don't reward them with a preorder. They have to demonstrate that their game is worth while first, before I reach for my wallet.

Vibration issues in FPS mode. Any help appreciated

Build a couple of fires! You can definitely get cold enough to have the shakes, but not so cold so as to get a status message. -
Perfect example! Yes, the ghost sounds are annoying as hell and I'm sure that everyone will wholeheartedly agree. But, why fix the ghost sounds, when the legacy audio module is going to be completely replaced? That "sounds" (no pun intended) like a colossal waste of time to me. While everyone (testers and players, alike) have been wringing their hands and complaining about the introduction of new weapons and clothing, in lieu of improvements to the core game, the devs have been busy breaking the game engine into individual modules and writing completely new modules which will replace the legacy code. We are getting a new renderer, new audio module, new loot economy, conversion to a more efficient scripting language, new NPC character controller, new player character controller, new NPC AI, new 64-bit server code and they have also even written a new 64-bit client, etc., etc., etc. When you click on "I Understand" and fire up the game, there may not be anything that you can touch, or feel that will demonstrate just how new everything is under the hood, but that doesn't change the fact that an absolutely stupid amount of programming man hours was required to get us to where we are today and all of it (and more) is essential to get us to where we need to go. The devs are not doing what you would necessarily expect, because this is not a typical project. We have had access to a working game concept, as well as actual developer builds, long before this is typically customary. A lot of demolition will still have to occur, before the game can be rebuilt on a more sturdy and appropriate foundation. All the while, the devs have gone to great lengths to ensure that the developer builds remain reasonably playable. Having said that, it is obvious that the devs do share some things in common with you. As long as I can remember, they have always been very aggressive with any bug that causes either a server, or a client crash. They have also been steadily addressing issues with any new modules which are introduced. Quite a lot of work has gone into sorting out the CLE, for example. They have no intention of spending any significant time polishing a turd, however if that particular turd will eventually be replaced, so long as the turd in question is not causing any major game breaking issues, A.K.A. server/client crashes.

The scenery in the Rocky mountains is absolutely spectacular, but it is very difficult to traverse the terrain on foot. I think that the Appalachian chain is a more practical location, very beautiful, provides the potential for wild animals, thick forests and snow. Best of all, there is a precedent for large bunker facilities in this area. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2453894/The-secret-government-bunker-hidden-luxury-hotel-stocked-30-years-supplies-America-s-influential-alive-nuclear-fallout.html My thought: A map with two rust belt towns, surrounded by mountains. For example, we could have something like Asheville in the SE corner and Knoxville in the NW corner, surrounded by the Smoky Mountains. By all means, throw in an underground bunker, several underground caverns (also indigenous to the area), small villages, lakes, rivers and because of the location, don't forget the diverse weather (rain, snow, fog - lots of fog, hurricane, and once in a while, a clear sunny day). Since this is the ancestral home of the Cherokee, perhaps we could have some focus on native American type weapons, deerskin clothing, lodges and their hunting & farming lifestyle.

My dissatisfaction with the map of DayZ .
BleedoutBill replied to adriel0000's topic in General Discussion
Sorry, but the devs have already addressed this question. They will not be expanding the current map, nor will they be building additional maps. The good news is that you will be able to either build your own map, or support someone else's map project. While I appreciate that you may not like the current map, it accurately depicts an actual location and its native buildings. -
Sounds like Texas!

Agreed. I expect that there must also be quite a number of new players who repeatedly died from: zeds on the beach, rain/cold, KOS'ers, dehydration/starvation, etc. who quit out of frustration, before "getting the hang" of the game. SP could certainly provide a more controlled environment where they could more successfully grapple with the steep learning curve. Eventually, "graduates" of SP would most likely migrate to SA.
-
I agree; options are good. More options are better. Having said that, I doubt that there would be much demand for a SP version, if not for the "wizards" and the KOS'ers.

Before you reach for your wallet, you may wish to consider giving GIMP a try. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube. http://www.gimp.org

how to navigate to big cities without signs/compass/map when it is day?
BleedoutBill replied to thomas05's topic in New Player Discussion
Completely lost in the wilderness? Want to find "civilization," so that you can get your bearings? 1) Enable the Steam in-game FPS counter, or equivalent. 2) Very slowly, rotate your character in a complete 360 degree circle. 3) Watch the FPS closely. 4) Head towards the lowest FPS observed. Guaranteed to work day, or night, or your money back! -
Known issue. The status messages are broken. When it changes color, it's ready to eat.

Yes, the people who build games for a living should stop what they are doing, put their work on hold and listen to the demands of a bunch of entitled thirteen-year-olds. Example: A big contributor to low fps in towns is as a result of the lack of proper occlusion culling in the current renderer. Even though the devs are actively writing a new renderer which will completely replace the legacy unit, they should stop what they are doing and add occlusion culling to the existing renderer. Never mind that the current renderer will be discarded and thrown in the trash in a few months and all of that work would be a massive waste of everyone's time, further delaying the completion of the project, the devs should stop what they are doing and work on this ... for the children. Because, the children know best and they need to be able to PVP in Cherno at 60fps on their antique AMD silicon. I'm sorry, but the Bulldozer has no better single core performance for gaming, than the Phenom II (which was released in 2008!) that it replaced. Moore's law marches on and time has not been kind to that design. Even the CEO of AMD recently acknowledged that they have become known for being the "Cheaper Solution" rather than as a technology leader. I've been an AMD fanboy, since I first installed an AMD math co-processor in my i286 machine. But, after all these years, AMD still hasn't given me a compelling reason to upgrade my Phenom II. So, rather than beat my head against the wall and complain about poor performance, I now run Intel hardware. You get what you pay for.

A 980Ti won't help your frame rate any and you surely don't need that much horsepower to make the game look good (in its current incarnation).

I would suggest that you go over to reddit. They'll no doubt agree with you over there.

Packets of seeds are relatively common. And, if you grow pumpkin, for instance, when you slice it up, you get new seeds to plant. I would think it far more likely to find a packet of seeds in Eastern Europe, then fresh oranges, bananas and kiwis ... although I confess to a certain sadness to see them go! So far there have been no new food types introduced. The CLE isn't quite firing on all eight cylinders yet, so you will probably find it necessary to supplement any looted food that you find with apples, berries, hunting, fishing and farming.
-
You will be happy to know that the fruit and veggies are no longer invisible, because they no longer spawn in 0.57. If you want vegetables, you have to grow them. It looks like oranges, bananas and kiwi have been retired.

I hear you. I lost my tent this morning. My tent (probably both of them) along with three backpacks full of gear ... all gone. I had two protector cases full of ammo, a whole bunch of arrows, food, seeds, a change of clothes, weapons, etc. ... poof! It's a wee bit hard to plan ahead, with this sort of stuff going on.

Are you going to have an archery, or some other sort of contest at the next GTG? The reason I ask, is that I just realized that I have a game code that I haven't redeemed. I presume that it is still good. Anyway, I'd be happy to contribute it to the winner of an event, if you decide to go down that path.

I was playing Experimental this morning and the game started freezing, crashing my PC and causing all sorts of graphical artifacts. It turns out that a lot of folks with Nvidia cards have similar complaints as a result of the new 352.86 video driver. I rolled back to the 350.12 driver, but the problem persisted!!! > :( In order to resolve the problem, I had to use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and do a clean install of 350.12. If you haven't updated your GPU to 352.86, don't! EDIT: I spoke too soon. The desktop is much more stable, but it is still not fixed. The larger issue is that the machine will crash as soon as I try to run a game (DayZ, Far Cry 4, etc.). PSA: Do not update your Nvidia driver to 352.86. You will be sorry!!!
