Confirmed, the Dolina camp is back!! Strange bug - No matter how much I eat, I can't get past dark green energized. Inventory bug - Clicked on the "X" to put my sledge on my back. Drank from a well. Sledge now stuck on my back. Could swap sledge with a hoe, but I could put neither in my hands. Re-log "fixed" it. Higher FPS tonight, but the threshold of stutter/slide show/freeze is about a dozen players. Up until now, it has been twice that number of players before the slide show commenced. EDIT: Most importantly, no more CTDs!

I don't think folks realize how bright those chem lights are. I can see you from a kilometer away!

When you cook fish, leave your inventory window open. When the fish turn to a tan-ish color, they are ready to eat.
-
The status messages for fish are currently are broken. Whether the fish is raw, cooked, or burned, the status always indicates "Raw."

Packets of seeds are relatively common. And, if you grow pumpkin, for instance, when you slice it up, you get new seeds to plant. I would think it far more likely to find a packet of seeds in Eastern Europe, then fresh oranges, bananas and kiwis ... although I confess to a certain sadness to see them go! So far there have been no new food types introduced. The CLE isn't quite firing on all eight cylinders yet, so you will probably find it necessary to supplement any looted food that you find with apples, berries, hunting, fishing and farming.

The dev team have actively tried to ensure that their stable client builds are just that, stable and they typically do not suffer from crashes. This would seem to be the primary differentiation between the stable and experimental branches of the code. If this policy were to be reversed, I should think that it would be much more difficult to attract the large numbers of players, which are necessary for volume testing ... which is the primary purpose of the stable branch. Server stability is a separate issue, largely driven by the transition from old tech to new tech and this topic has been discussed by Eugen on a number of occasions.

What's the current status of the gas stove; can it be used to cook?

You will be happy to know that the fruit and veggies are no longer invisible, because they no longer spawn in 0.57. If you want vegetables, you have to grow them. It looks like oranges, bananas and kiwi have been retired.

Ah ... because my i7 machine is temporarily down for some mods. Six years ago, my AMD machine was wickedly fast. To this day, I only have three games that I can't play on it, DayZ, FC4 and Metro: Last Light. It even runs ARMA II reasonably well. Even with the antique Nvidia GPU, I am rendering DayZ at 2560x1440 with high quality textures. I would run it at 1920x1080 with medium textures, but that doesn't improve my FPS one bit, so the GPU is more than up to the task. BTW, it's a six-core Phenom II and a GTX470.

I had the exact same issue with a double barreled shotgun, about two weeks ago.

Well, I was a wee bit cranky last night. I was well North of the Northern Highway (you know to which road I am referring, but it seems to me that we need a better name) and while I wasn't exactly empty handed, let's just say that "The Force" wasn't with me. So, tonight I picked back up on the outskirts of Kamensk on a different server. Within minutes I found a variety of canned goods, a can opener, a compass, a pick ax (and lots of other melee weapons), a protector case, two hunters jackets, three M65 jackets, ammunition, three rifles (including a SKS :) ), an ACOG and a pack it lug all of it around in. I did experience one of those delayed reaction CTD's, where the screen freezes and you get the Windows system chime, but the PC is tied in knots for a minute, or two before the desktop pops up. So far, only scheduled restarts and the server has been pretty responsive, however the server load has also been pretty light, with perhaps 8-12 people on average. It's a bummer not seeing any other players, but it beats the slide show that I had last night.

It looks like the devs may be doing some research for the base up in the NW corner of the map. (1 of 5): http://twitter.com/PeterNespesny/status/607254504707379201

I need help to choose a Sound Card
BleedoutBill replied to St. Jimmy's topic in Technology/Programming
Sorry that didn't help. It's always best to start there though, before spending money. Try to find USB alternatives for your mic and sound card needs. Everything transferred over the USB bus is digital and far less susceptible to interference. For best results, keep the analogue portions of your sound (digital / analog conversion - A.K.A. DAC) outside of the PC case. The interior of the case is hostile to analog signals. The more expensive sound cards have pretty good shielding, so the risk is mitigated somewhat with those solutions. -

Just because it's a 3PP server, doesn't mean that you can't play 1PP. You're definitely at a disadvantage for PVP, but since I tend to creep around in the shadows, it's not a huge consideration. I just take a few extra minutes to scan hot spots with my binoculars, before I enter. EDIT: A lot of 3PP servers are down, too. They are obviously doing load testing on the servers / CLE.

I need help to choose a Sound Card
BleedoutBill replied to St. Jimmy's topic in Technology/Programming
The first thing that you should try is using the jacks at the MB, rather than the jacks at the front of your case. The leads that go to the front of the case aren't typically shielded and are susceptible to RF interference. This may be all that you need to do, in order to get satisfactory results. Asus and others make nice sound cards that will likely perform much better than the average MB solution, but the inside of a PC case is not an ideal environment for sound hardware. The better solution is an external USB sound card / DAC. As an example, the ODAC from Mayflower Electronics would be a great compliment to your Beyerdynamic cans. I'm going to get their DAC / amp combo to power my Sennheiser cans, since the impedance is a wee bit too much for my MB. Their DAC and amp are based on an open source design and there are alternative sources for these. Here is some interesting reading: http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2012/04/odac-released.html -
Assuming that things are spawning, the CLE doesn't seem to be keeping up with the extra server load, since they shut down a lot of the servers and herded us all together. I made it as far as Kamensk last night and I still wasn't finding anything useful. I'll try a different server tonight to see if that was the problem.

The medium size green bushes give blue berries. The medium size golden / red bushes give red berries.

Over the course of playing six hours +/- last night I think I only ate one tin of tuna and about sixteen apples. And, whereas before I was carrying three to four bottles of water, I only carried one last night and I only had to refill it perhaps 3-4 times. Things are all over the chart now. I never know what to expect when I log in these days.
