Is this a pernicious attempt by the devs to force us to the East side of the map (so that we are always down wind of the wolves)? I'll have to head up to Novo and see if I end up as dog food up there, too.
-
When I was standing in the bush, the pack actually walked past me. Perhaps if I had been squatting down, they would never have stopped? The closest wolf was facing almost directly away from me. I may have imagined it, but he appeared to make a sniffing animation, before he turned towards me and attacked. So, I don.t know if he smelled me, or he just happened to turn in my direction and saw me, or if by turning my head, I made a noise.

Confirmed. Unlike the zeds, who may eventually loose interest and wander away, the wolves do not. I think everyone will make this mistake once. During one encounter with them, I had been picking berries. When they appeared, I stepped into the bush and stood perfectly still. They walked up to me, one was within 2-3 meters, and they sniffed around. They acted as if they didn't see me and they stood very still as they looked around. If I had had an automatic weapon, I could have easily taken them out in one burst. Unfortunately, I was a relatively fresh spawn and all I had to my name was a rusty shovel. It took them a full minute, or so, but the closest one did eventually realize that I was standing there in the bush. The others did not seem to figure it out, until the first one attacked. Stealth may be a viable strategy with them, unless they happen to wander too close. I'll try this once again ... for science.

As if we don't have our hands full with zeds, wolves and the elements, now we've been invaded by Andorians!

I think the prior cold / wet patches were much more challenging than this current one. I honestly don't think that I should be able to sit outside, motionless on the ground, in damp clothing and not have my temperature drop. I didn't even have a proper coat, just a tracksuit jacket. On another occasion, I was a fresh spawn (I was eaten by those damn wolves again!) and I came upon a berry bush. There I was, standing still in my jeans and T-shirt, picking berries ... while I stood there for several minutes, I actually watched my temperature INCREASE!!! Sure, it's challenging to get a character established, if you spawn in the rain, but it should be! At any other time survival is trivial, if you apply some common sense to the problem at hand. In my opinion, the current build is only hazardous to the impatient, who disregard the weather and can not resist running around in the rain, even though they are not properly attired. OK, I'm going to batten down the hatches of the bunker. Cue the PVP guys who "... don't have time for all of this survival nonsense."

OK, I was dog food twice in a row, now! Who was sayin' that they couldn't find a wolf?!?!?! They are friggin' EVERYWHERE. If you wander off into the woods, you're toast! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LXJedf0_hw

I expect that you are correct. I'm just sayin' that this is the wrong approach for Exp, because bug, or no, the devs will routinely wipe it. I assume that it will be wiped at any moment and, therefore, I'm never disappointed.

Character resets are typical and should be expected on Exp builds. You should only be surprised if there is no reset.

I finally had the massive rubberbanding, when being attacked by a zed. This is a massive pain in the ass, I felt like a heavy bag swinging back and forth, while the zed picked his shots. I had no weapons, whatsoever, and somehow, by shear luck, I punched his lights out. As spoon as he went down, the rubberbanding stopped. No sooner than that encounter ended, I walked straight into a pack or wolves (yeah, not my lucky day)! At this point I had a shovel, but it was no match for them, due to their speed. I somehow managed to make it to a radio tower. I figured that if I were 50 meters up, they would soon loose interest. WRONG! Those furry little bastards, are nothing, if not persistent!!! I'm considering ending it all, rather than becoming dog food ... It would seem that DayZ has become a survival game again!

Another 68MB incoming ... EDIT: ver 0.61.135961
-
Yeah, you're not the only one who enjoys the survival challenge. I've seen and heard thunder and lightning almost constantly in 0.61, but it wasn't until this morning that I got caught in a genuine downpour. I was pretty concerned, because all I had to wear was a tracksuit jacket, jeans and baseball cap ... and all were already damp. There were no buildings nearby so a sat under a large tree. and watched the rain and mist for several minutes (until the server was brought down). This effect is a massive step forward! Surprisingly, even though my clothing was damp, my temperature did not budge, nor did I get wet. Before it started to rain, I got to enjoy a foggy, overcast dawn. Again, the visual effects are an order of magnitude better than where we were, only a short time ago. Now, if only we could do something about the posterization of the nighttime sky ... BTW - I found a zed, before the dawn broke. While his range of vision was quite short, when I whacked him with an ax he didn't seem to appreciate it. He came after me in a furry! Thanks for the update, BI. ; )

Confirmed. - You guys with a wide pipe piss me off!!! ; )

286.9MB incoming!

Nope, food seems to go a long way in this build. The devs are obviously interested in seeing you die in some other grisly and perverse manner, so don't fret, this will certainly change again, after they collect whatever data they are looking for.

There is no real trick to this. You must stay out of the rain, if you are not dressed appropriately. It is essential that you get out of the rain before you get soaked clear through. If you are far away from a town / buildings, hugging the trunk of a tall tree helps, as the canopy will provide some shelter. Relying on fire alone, no longer appears to be a viable strategy, according to some recent posts. The last time I was caught in the rain out in an open field, wearing nothing but a T-shirt, I found one of those long barns and I ran laps inside, until the rain stopped. This expends a lot of energy and I came dangerously close to dying from hunger / thirst, from all of the exercise. It was shear luck that the rain stopped after fifteen minutes and I survived. It was a serious scramble for food and water afterwards, though, or I wouldn't have made it. Note: I haven't tried this in the recent builds, so YMMV. EDIT: I should also have mentioned that carrying spare dry clothing (a good idea if you don't have a raincoat, etc.), or finding dry clothes is also immensely helpful. Under some conditions, I have found that wearing wet clothes is less helpful than wearing no clothes at all.

At least they didn't see me from 1000 meters away, through the 3rd floor wall of a building. : ) Certainly, I would hope that their vision should not be as effective at night, as in the daylight, but you'd think that they would notice it when they are getting poked in the head with a pick ax. As with many other game variables, I expect that this is yet another example of something that will be tuned as we get closer to beta. BTW - I'll hop on later today and see how aggressive they are during the day.
-
Yeah; I was wondering if I had bad breath, or something! ; )
-
I went out hunting for zeds in 1st p last night and I didn't see any aggro at all. They surely should notice me running across their path, at a right angle to their direction of travel, approximately 10 meters away ... but they didn't!!! I walked right up to one and he allowed me to plant a pick ax in his forehead, but he didn't aggro, either!!! It's not like I one-shotted him. I had to wack him two more times before he went down, but he never attempted to attack me. He just stood there and took it like a man. He wasn't stuck on anything; I had been shadowing him for a couple of minutes. There are plenty of them spawning, but they just weren't paying any attention to me. WTF!

I just walked up to an apple tree and I found two dozen apples lying beneath it, on the ground. I suppose the "owner" of the apples was busy beating the snot out of some other poor bastard, while I happily ate his apples. Thanks for keeping him occupied!!!

I've been struggling with a problem affecting all of the 0.61 Exp builds. It hasn't been a big deal, since up until the current build, I've never been on a server for longer than sixty seconds at a time. Now that the servers have become more stable (Whoo Hoo!!!), I had to get to the bottom of why my mouse pointer was invisible. If you encounter this issue, go into "Control Panel" and try turning off "Mouse Trails."

Seems to me that I submitted a bug report on the leaves, w/ pics, well over a year ago.
-
Just had 257.6MB come down the pipe. This brings me to v0.61.135869. BTW - I see no servers up at this time.

Several people had mentioned very loud sounds, such a breathing. I'm in the same boat as you. I have my PC master volume and the game volume sliders maxed out and I can barely hear footsteps. I didn't really have a chance to see if all sounds were so affected, as I was getting booted off of the server every 30 seconds. I have't had a chance to hop on today, but I'm glad to hear that the server crash dilemma has been improved..
-
I hopped on three different servers. Each time, I had a "No Message Received" within sixty seconds. I honestly don't see any difference between this build and the preceding one.

My recollection is that the engine is fully capable of emulating the complete seasonal weather cycle. It has always been locked on Autumn in Eastern Europe, however, in order to provide a survival challenge. Granted, hypothermia has not been a serious concern for many months, but when it was first introduced, it was essential to dress appropriately and rain, which was then a frequent feature, was literally life threatening. Once we hit beta and the balancing begins, I expect that the cold weather will come back with a vengeance. I expect that the game will remain locked where it is, as Brian has always leaned towards the game being a survival challenge, but there is the potential that the seasonal changes could be observed on a private server ... when modding becomes a thing.
