A PSA for those of us with OCD: http://twitter.com/Hicks_206/status/654731078125531137

They scare the hell out of me, when I'm not expecting them ... at least that's how I remember it.
-
Increased tree density would be nice, but I really don't think that's the answer. While I recognize that it may not be practical for the entire map, it sure would be nice to have some really thick underbrush is some of the more remote sections of forest.
-
That's only true for large values of two.

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/229480-reddit-eugen-current-blockers-for-internal-059-build/#entry2312286 Eugen also mentions that Brian is traveling this week (Brazil) so that explains why no SR.

My guess is that just the opposite happened. Rather than sit on their ass' waiting for the hardware issue to be resolved, they merged additional content into Exp. Once they get this new build somewhat stable, they'll blow it onto the experimental servers for us to have a go at it.
-
Yes, the devs clearly have access to some VERY detailed logs. We would all like to see some immediate gratification / frontier justice when we see an inappropriate "event" in game, but that's not how it works. Eugen's vid explains how their strategy allows them to catch more bad guys than they otherwise would, by applying piecemeal bans.

I think that you make many good points. I would submit that Eugen's recent talk on how they deal with hackers, was also very enlightening. Many players have and still howl about how the devs are both incompetent and impotent, because they are not addressing the hacking situation. Once the devs' strategies are understood, it is clear that they have been very proactive. Also impressive is their effort to surreptitiously purchase hacks, so that they can be dissected. They aren't just hiding behind Battleye, either, it's clear that they are engaged and they are determined to prevail in this ongoing arms race. Sometimes there are misunderstandings, because the devs do not have a "professional" PR person on staff. But, if they did have such a person, do you really think that we would get these detailed explanations from Chris and Eugen, or would we merely get a bunch of sunshine, puppies and lollipops from some Madison Avenue stuffed shirt? Do you think that the tweets would continue, or would they all be funneled through someone who doesn't know squat about the issues at hand. Be careful what you wish for. Personally, I like getting the unvarnished information, straight from the source. The important bits of information eventually leak out. Patience is a virtue.

We have absolutely no idea how long development will take, because work on the game does not progress in a linear fashion. Several of the assets that you mentioned, could already be complete, but they can not be merged onto the game, until certain prerequisite engine modules are replaced. For instance, we already know that they have produced limping animations, but they won't be introduced, until the new character controller is in place. Without the character controller, we have no animations. Without the animations, we can not have more varied and interesting character injury/damage models. Without the new injury models, there is no point in introducing advanced medical treatments. Does that mean that the code for advanced medical countermeasures does not already exist? No, not at all. Don't forget that just because a feature has not yet been introduced into experimental, that doesn't mean that the devs aren't already testing it in the internal builds. The new renderer, for instance, has been in the internal build since May. We don't get to see all of the code evolve before out eyes, we only get to see code that is relatively well behaved and which needs to be stress tested, to ensure that there are no unforeseen bugs. Does this mean that I think we'll see the game enter beta at the end of 2015? No, but if the renderer, character controller and the audio module, to name but a few, were all merged into 0.59, that would surely alter my perception of how soon we may ultimately see beta.

Some changes what i want see in the game dangerous animals, better zombies and etc.
BleedoutBill replied to rafap's topic in Suggestions
Affirmative. Zeds now alert on movement (in addition to sound). If you duck behind a car and stay perfectly still, they may not see you, unless they happen to wander very close to your location. This is a game that I enjoy playing with them. I like to follow them around, without being detected. I guess that I'm easily amused. As of (maybe) 0.56, the zeds have a more natural and less predictable "wander around" mode, when they are not alerted. Since this new behavior was introduced, I have observed zeds wandering in and out of buildings. They don't tend to stay inside for long, but I've seen a few of them go inside for thirty seconds, or so and then come back outside. The devs have shown "teaser" vids of zeds traveling in groups, so it would seem that this being implemented. -

You'll be glad to know that the devs haven't given up on zombies. While the zeds can no longer see you through a wall from five kilometers away, they still have pretty good hearing. If someone is shooting a firearm, they will most certainly arouse the interest of any nearby zeds. Also, we don't have many details, but the devs have confirmed both companion animals (horses and dogs), as well as predator animals. -
Normally, I would agree, but in this case the entangled bit is the engine, itself. Remember, we started with a monolithic engine and the devs first attempted to modularize it and now they are attempting to write replacement modules. Honestly, one wonders if starting with a clean sheet of paper wouldn't have been a better approach, but we're not in a position to judge. The one thing that we can agree on, is that the devs have undertaken an absolutely MASSIVE project, surrounded by a multitude of rabbit holes.
-
I'm as anxious as everyone else, but in fairness, the devs told us that there would be some engine modules swapped out in 0.59. These are BIG changes and they are guaranteed to result in unanticipated consequences. It's the nature of the beast ... when you touch one bit of code, invariably, you break three (or more) other bits. :(
-
They've generated five, or six internal builds since the hardware issue, so rather than standing around with their collective whatsits in their hand, I expect that the devs have merged more commits into experimental. These new commits probably need some smoothing over, before they are released. Rust never sleeps!

At this stage of development, an expensive GPU really doesn't offer any performance improvement, in terms of FPS. Also, as near as I can determine, neither of the current offerings from Nvidia and AMD fully support DX12, so I don't see the point in spending a lot of money on the current cards. If I needed a GPU right now, today and I didn't need the video horsepower for other games, I would probably be looking at a GTX 750Ti. Honestly, I have a GTX470 in one of my rigs and it is more than adequate for DayZ, but the 750Ti is much newer, pretty cheap and much more power efficient. Once the Pascal GPUs come out next year, I would look at upgrading to a more serious GPU at that point. In short, I think that you're on the right track. You'll have a much better experience by spending the money on the CPU now and then you can upgrade the GPU later, when more attractive offerings and funds permit.

The goal of this game is survival. There are various elements that challenge your ability to survive, such as exposure to the elements, hunger, thirst, disease, the infected (sometimes more, sometimes less) and, of course, other players. As game development progresses, additional challenges will be added and depth will be added to those existing challenges. When the game releases, the goal will be survival. There will be various elements that challenge your ability to survive, such as exposure to the elements, hunger, thirst, disease, the infected (hopefully more) and, of course, other players. Once you master those challenges and reach a comfort zone (a modest base with a cache of food, tools and other equipment), your "reasons" to go to a town, interact with other players, or care about your character will be no different than they are today and they will only be limited by your own imagination ... survival. Then (release), as now, there will be no points to accumulate, no flag to capture and no grail to find. Those of us who have an underdeveloped imagination, will be no happier with the game at release, than they are today, because this game is about the journey, not the destination.

Once helicopters are introduced, the camps located in the debug area will become extremely vulnerable. In fact, due to the lack of cover, any movement in the debug area will be extremely risky. Still, I can't help but to grin at the thought of a couple of AI controlled A-10 Thunderbolts patrolling the DMZ debug zone. This would be waaay more fun than completely closing off the debug area. It would be great fun to chase hostages out into debug and then sit back and watch the show. :D Come get some!
