    Stable - 0.51 Discussion

I saw nothing on the patch notes about helo crashes coming back to persistent servers in .51, but with the new weapons being added and new type of helo crash, I would assume they should? It seems like on .50 people were finding them left and right, but 95% of the servers I see are persistent. So I'm a little confused.. Anyone have info on this? Thanks.

    AK74U question

DayZ Wiki says the AK74U will hold a PSO1 scope. However, I've had no luck attaching them to it. On the PSO1 scope page, it says it only fits the AKM and AK101. Anyone know which is correct?

Any update on magic leg breaking?

Right, and I don't give a shit what all the trolls here say about Alpha status. This bug seriously needs to be fixed. It's ruining the ability of the paying Alpha testers to do their job (us). I am fully loaded right now and refuse to go into any second story building, until I die or until this bug is fixed.

What none of us want to admit

I think persistence can succeed. But it really needs to be thought out properly using some math and logic. One of the major problems with persistence is the idea that the server can end up so overloaded with items that it cannot function, or performance may degrade. Therefore, some items must decay. There MUST be mechanisms in the game to keep the number of items on a server stable without affecting overall gameplay. Decay is one of them, but how do you logically make items decay and still allow a player to hoard what they want and not notice? These are theoretical ideas: a) storage space - a player can only have so much storage on their person, this is true right now and is a static limitation. b) environmental - items that are stored in the environment (backpack on the ground in the woods) should decay at different rates. i.e. if you place a backpack in a creek, it will decay very fast, if you leave a backpack in a house, it won't decay at all. This can be set within each graphics tile used in the game (dirt, water, grass, rock). Items left by themselves out in a field/woods will decay rapidly (be gone at server reset or two). A wildfire sparked by a lightning strike may burn hundreds of acres of forest, and remove all stored items from that area. b.2) weather - if a severe storm rolls through, your tent may be destroyed or begin leaking, if it does the items in your tent may begin to decay c) age of an item - the age of an item in your possession may weather over time, this variable relates to the environmental aspect, but consider the fact that you are holding onto raw meat for 4 hours, it may spoil. If you are holding onto a kitchen knife in a damp backpack, it may rust over 2-3 days d) melee/battle damage - obviously as you take hits, your items break e) usage of an item - obviously, wear and tear will ruin an item. Repair of an item with a rock, or tool should only recover 50% of the item's hit points, eventually forcing a player to get a new item in its place. f) item respawning system - items should respawn in over time, not based upon player proximity (for full realism), but should consider the number of items within the area or town, as well as considering each building. A single building may spawn 5 items total but Town X should have 5% drink items 10% food items 25% clothing 25% tools 2% guns 18% boots 20% miscellaneous... so if players come into town and keep taking the food and water, then it doesn't mean you'll end up with 400 pairs of boots in the town over a period of 2 days. g) houses - should not allow items to decay, but can be looted by anyone. I'd love to see a day where houses could be built for player storage, and could burn down as well and take all the items inside with them. Overall, there are ways for developers to control persistence. It must be coded into the game to be a transparent system where player X doesn't end up with 400 backpacks of 5.56mm ammunition. If we want players to have truly secure storage, or items that are 100% protected from decay, then it must be rationed. Everything else in the world must decay at some ratio or persistence won't work.

    Helo crash question

Did the spots change? Where have you all found them lately? I usually run a path around green mountain, I've been on a server that has reset on average every 1.5 hours and I have found none since 0.50.
  7. Were you sitting on the second story of the house or first story?
  8. I have killed more snipers than have killed me, I'm sort of a counter sniper. Use binoculars, search high areas in a town first, scan the hills around, if you do this there is a good chance you'll see them before they see you. Typically I am a friendly, anti-KOS player. When the game gets completed, that's how I'll probably play. However, due to the instant-death bugs in the game, the lack of rifle sounds, and the plethora of internet toddlers running around this game, I almost always KOS.

Those times when you died and you don't know why

Good to see they haven't fixed the most critical flaw in the game. As a rule of thumb, when you are fully loaded don't go into any second story building. I don't.

Any update on magic leg breaking?

Occasional random deaths are driving away players from the game. Yes, they may come back but the development team is losing very important alpha/beta testers. This bug needs to be fixed ASAP. It ruins the dynamic of the game when people realize there is a 5% climbing that stairwell can result in your death. It has happened to me at least 10 times, and once equiped I will not go into any elevated space. I believe it has to do with elevation + de-sync. The server thinks you fell through the floor and went splat, but your client shows you didn't. It's the same thing as an invisible zombie hitting you, which happens.

    duping is out of control

FYI: I duped on accident. I was cooking meat on a fire (3 raw pieces) and dropped 3 cooked pieces on the ground. The server crashed and I ended up with 3 raw pieces in the un-lit fire, 3 pieces in my bag and 3 pieces on the ground. Duping does occur, but the servers right now are OVERLOADED with tons of loot as well. One run through a military base can get you multiple AKMs, tons of clips, all the gorka and army clothing you need. Edit: I wouldn't be surprised if this crazy amount of loot is some sort of persistence server stress testing going on. A good question may be, how much loot is too much loot for server side memory concerns..

    Bone Condition

I've been hit by zombies a ton, still alive. As for the instant-death while up on a 2-story or 3-story building, I've taken damage there twice where I broke my leg, screen went red but I did not instant-death. I still think I might though, so I am avoiding going onto the 2nd floor of any building right now. My answer is, I'm not sure but it looks positive.

    Zombie respawn rate

Since the 0.50, I've noticed a significant increase in zombie presence in many towns. With my own eyes, I've seen zombies spawn in outside of towns and immediately rush myself or my buddy. In my opinion, it seems to bring the game to a dynamic where you have "swarms" or "waves" of zombies coming at you, sort of silly imo. Now, I'm all for realism, so the fact that zombies respawn after you've cleared the town sort of irks me. Not only this, but logging into the game in a town can get you killed because zombies may be hitting you before the game loads. Also, in the past I've sort of gauged the presence of other players off the amount of zombies I run into in a town. If there were no zombies, or just a few, then I wonder if a player has been by. If there are zombie bodies, I know a player is very close by. But now that logic is out the door. I suggest that zombies should slowly respawn in a town after players have left for a considerable amount of time.

    Zombie respawn rate

Good troll attempt. You either didn't read or can't read. When the devs strive for realism (blood/body temperature/weather/weapon models/etc), I'm sure they didn't mean to have endless auto-spawning "waves" of zombies pop out of the ground and start charging you. It would be hypocritical to the work they've done to make such a silly adjustment stick.
  15. Haha I know it's fun though. Bean, you are right, these areas draw a ton of players. This morning I got in a shoot out at an army base (with this much loot) with 3 people in the game! These places are magnets for server hoppers too, I would stay away. What I did was drop a lot of my items up in the woods, ran down into the base with a shot gun in my underwear, then ran back up into the safety of the woods with tons of loot. This will be fixed, but for now let's laugh a little at it.

how has the dry wells affected your gameplay

I now rely more on purification tablets and just fill up my jugs every time I run into a pond or stream. Also, you can fill your canteen with the falling rain as well. It's not a big deal to me.

    Hoping for character resets!

Why do you need regular wipes when you have instant-death bugs, snipers, hackers and etc? Today I killed a guy fully loaded with an AKM/AK101, tons of ammo with a sawed off shotgun, the most armed person in the game isn't really the best, and doesn't survive the longest. Point is, it's pretty rare that a fully loaded guy is actually somehow negatively impacting your game in a major way.

    Invisible zombie is attacking me.

Here, I'll be the first one to give you a real answer. Yes, it's a bug. It's happened to me. Somehow the client doesn't register the zombie's presence but the server does. So you get hit and hear sounds. The fix to this is to run like hell, jump over a ton of small fences until you get a far distance from them and log out. This bug has become even more pronounced since the 0.50 update.

The good and the bad of 50th patch

THANK YOU FOR YOUR POST/... Can we PLEASE GET A 0.50 patch bug sticky thread?? The reason I say this is that I wasted time going to multiple wells to try and get water, thinking that they were just "not working". I could not find anything on the web or Twitter about it. Also, I almost got to the point of uninstalling my audio drivers because of the new bug of hearing zombies coming from the wrong direction?

are duping and hack issues fixed ?

Hacking is rampant right now, to the point of our group just KoSing everyone because a hacker will eventually kill us. Last night a hacker sniped all 6 people with a shotgun from across AF. They also had a guy teleport up to them and kill them in another instance.
  21. The server is {HDJ} Hot Dog Juice. Do not log in there I twice have confirmed that going to that server will reset your character, and even if you instantly log out and come back on another server you are new spawn. Too bad. Edit: Upon further review, the second time I immediately logged out of this server and logged into 2 different servers my second freshspawn came back. Still lost all my good stuff but at least I have my axe.
  22. Can we please start a thread of servers that are setup improperly which continue to reset players? I logged into a server tonight with 2 people on it, 13:02 was the time (wasn't a new reboot) and lost everything. Thanks! I've lost more loot and weapons to amateur servers than to other players or KoS.

Character restart after log back on Dayz

Nice troll. You are one of many on this forum. He probably logged into a server as it was booting up and it didn't properly pull data from the hive. **PSA FOR ALL PLAYERS** - Do NOT log into a server when the clock reads 7:00, 13:00, any even number. Wait for a minute to pass (7:01) before joining. This ensures that the server is fully booted up and can retrieve the proper character data from the hive. If you log into a newly booted server too early, there is a chance of your character being reset. I have followed this method for the last 2 weeks and not had one reset.

    wtf instant death?

For the life of me it makes no sense to close threads having to do with this 'insta-death' bug, there is no more important bug in this game right now. If we are supposed to believe Alpha is for players to route out all the bugs, then it's probably smart to fix a glitch that drives people away from the game. Also, I am not seeing a lot of serious bugs now besides this one. If we really want to give the devs a more accurate depiction of a DayZ world, then we need to eliminate this bug ASAP. My experience with the instant death bug: It has to do with elevation. If you are elevated, after having gone up stairs (I haven't seen this happen after climbing a ladder), then at some point there is a chance the game thinks you "fell", thus breaking your leg. If you have broken a lot of bones, then eventually you simply die without having any chance to help yourself. I have seen both, standing still on the 2nd story of a house and BOOM, broken leg. I was a fresh spawn so it was repairable. If I was a betting man, I'd say the instant death bug has to do with desync. My advice to people wanting to stay alive, either drop your gear and suicide after a few days or just don't go up in an elevated building.

Sudden instant death and player Hit Points

Unrealistic. In real life.... If you take gunshots you can heal from them, as do people do with broken bones. As you grow old with age, you start to deteriorate. Maybe include a bone stat that takes a lot of non-movement to heal up. Regardless this game needs to be forward with how it calculates "hit points" and health.
