    Teenagers who play

Look, I was a teenager too. I understand, you have to rage, taunt, or try out that new cuss word you heard at the bus stop. For a 16 year old, there is nothing more fun than beating an AFK player with a sledgehammer while yelling "pussy" at him through your parents microphone. Or saying you are "friendly" then whipping out an axe and killing those you were able to temporarily befriend. It sort of makes me chuckle, even if I am the one dead. Now I am 30+ years old, and every time I KOS someone in this game I realize that there is a 90% chance I am killing one of you jerks. Therefore, I will continue to KOS until we can find a way to better define who a bandit is, who is a jerkoff is, who a hero is, who a reasonable person who says "I'm friendly" is. Odds are in my favor. This game introduces an interesting dynamic with interpersonal communications where we can't really determine that. Needless to say, I will continue to KOS people w/ my AK101 but if things were different I'd probably offer you can of beans. If anyone can point me in the direction to where the most dickheads hang out, then I'll go handle business over there. Thanks

I'm mostly talking about running around on experimental as a fresh spawn, nobody has "got me" on stable branch.

    Character Wipe?

Quit trolling, we know the game is in Alpha, we know there can be wipes. Your response is annoying and not even valuable to this post. The guy asked a question if anyone had heard anymore rumors about a wipe. Either answer his question or don't respond. I think that's a valid question considering the mixed messages we get from the development team. As a player, I am also interested in knowing there will be a wipe so I can depart my hoarding survivalist persona into a blood thirsty bandit slayer.

Who decided to make hacksaw's so rare?

So much fucking whining. You know what? 20 mins ago I was trying to color a ghillie suit green, but COULDNT FIND GREEN SPRAYPAINT. SO I began writing a dissertation on the rarities of green spraypaint. As for your original point, I've found 10+ hacksaws in the last 3 days of looting. You just have bad luck.

What gun was your first shooting kill with?

And you don't ever forget where your first kill was... For me, it was NWAF the very south HQ building. I am in looting and a guy opens the door downstairs. I hear it and freeze next to the steps with my Mosin aimed downstairs. Dude comes sprinting in, I shoot him in the chest, and run past him outside. I then camp the doorway, he comes out all paranoid and kneeling with his gun out. I end him with 4 more shots. It would have been me if the roles were reversed.

    pso-1 scope?

I've found one at a Russian heli crash site (non smoking), but most I've found on the beds in the barracks.

    Hyperthermia and Hypothermia

If you really died of hypothermia (cold) within 30 mins of being "HOT" then yah, the game is broken and retarded. But yes, you can get soaked and once sitting still for a while, body temperature will decrease and you will get hypothermia. if I am going to be running a lot around the map, I find a pond and get "wet", then sprint around like a maniac. I will never overheat.

    Amphibia S

Is it truly even worth keeping this weapon right now? a) It takes 5-7 shots to drop a zombie, unless you get a headshot. b) It takes 4-5 shots to drop a deer in the woods. c) I'm assuming it will take two clips of shooting to drop a player. When pistol silencers hit the game, wouldn't an FNX 45 silenced be the top item?
  9. treetop82

    Amphibia S

A silenced FNX 45 will be much more valuable.

    Strange behavior with V3S truck

You need momentum. I do a ton of driving and this is what I found. If you are trying to start on a hill, it's very tough. But if you drive parallel to the hill until up to speed, or even downhill to get up to speed, then turn uphill you FLY up the steep slopes.

    The reason behind KoS: ?

To me, I've found out there is no real point in sniping KOS. I killed a guy from 300m at a helo crash site the other day, once I got to his body it was unlootable and couldn't be interacted with. SO I basically ruined his character for nothing.

Status Report - Week of 12 Jan 15

Being able to report hackers will be crucial, however we need a system to be able to identify people or have access to the kill/interaction logs. For example, if I die to a hacker and don't get his name through in-game methods, then I have no way of giving a legitimate report. But if I can look up somewhere that I was killed by Player X. Then I can report Player X for warping across the field to axe me in the face. Given that one player faces 3 hack-u-sation charges in a short time span, he might get the ban, hopefully from DayZ and make him re-purchase the game.

    Military tent questions

I have left backpacks on the ground to see them gone in 24 hours, I found a large military tent the other day but just threw it away because persistence is broken and not worth my time.
  14. If you server hop, the penalty should be a loss of blood..which you would have to regain via eating/drinking and sitting around for a bit, or die to the first bullet that hits your foot.

Weapon tier list. Best and worst?

Ignore the trolls, good question. In my 400+ hours, I'd say there are a few weapons I like. First combo, mosin/sawed off is one of the best for sniping/city combo. However it doesn't give you any firepower mid range, as some dude with a machine gun (akm/m4) would tear you up from 100 meters. Another combo I had was the AK101/AK74U, yes, two machine guns and both with silencers. This gave me a diversity of ammunition to use and the AK74U fits in the backpack. The AK101 had a PSO scope on it for mid range fighting/sniping. I liked this combo very well, it's hard to beat. Why use a pistol? Anyway, consider the addition of silencers into the game. Once pistol silencers come in the game, I'll probably go M4/FNX combo. I just don't like being heard, especially when dealing with endless zombies and not wanting my gear to get damaged. I rarely fight with an axe any more. Edit: Also consider this, the shotgun is great for survival, but if you want to loot someones stuff then its a bad choice. It will ruin nearly everything.
  16. Edit2: Fixed again. I got jittery after being soaked for more than 15 minutes. Even though I did not display as "cold" my body temperature must have dropped. Anyways, in this latest patch it is MUCH HARDER to become dry once wet (twss) so the longer you are wet, the colder you get and the shivers start, even without the "cold" label. Sitting in front of two fires, very close, got me the "you are warming up" message. Since staying dry I have yet to get jitery again. Edit: FIXED! Took me a whole day, but got it fixed. I sat by a fire in a enclosed room for about 10 mins, kept getting messages "You are slowly warming up" then just noticed shaking stopped. I was also downing a good dosage of antibiotics, pain killers and drank water and ate food. I think it's some sort of "cold" condition that is hard to shake because as I was sprinting around (fully geared) I did not get any "warming up" messages. Now I'm normal. Maybe someone has cracked this code, I'd love to hear it. I've seen other threads on it but no real resolution. First moments on 0.52, my healthy char gets hit by two zombies, ruins the TTsko jacket and pants (literally two hits). Broke my leg and I used a splint. I throw out jacket and pants and grab other stuff. Later I am 100% healthy/energized/hydrated and pull out my scope, tons of shaking/vibrating making it impossible to use. Same with binoculars. I've sat around a fire for 5+ mins, ate pain killers, charcoal tabs, antibiotics. None of my gear says "damp", my only status messages are the 3 bright green ones. However, when I go sprinting across the map I don't get a "you are warming up rapidly" message. Nor do I get a warming message sitting next to a fire. Anyone have advice? My next idea is to drop gear, suicide, pick up gear.

    Insane loot luck in Berezino?

It's not, development on this game is extremely slow.

What kind of groups were you with?

Play with another friend, we play as loaners and avoid obvious hot spots but are fully armed head to toe and ready to kill. We're into exploring, hoarding rare loot and hunting helo crashes. We've had many other players in our crosshairs but have just left them alone.

    Why even persist?

Discussion about persistence. Is it even worth it? Is the development team wasting time struggling to perfect it? I don't have an answer to this question, just an opinion.. they've definitely got an uphill battle in fine tuning this core dynamic. This last week I've been playing non-persistent servers and have enjoyed the balance of loot, the re-looting of a town after a server reset. Here are some problems with keeping persistence: 1. Massive amounts of items - The idea of items persisting for days, weeks, years on a map while maintaining a balance of loot elsewhere seems impossible from a few logical positions. First, servers will end up being bogged down. More items means slower performance, higher memory usage and lower FPS for the Core I3 user running into Novod. More problems for developers in the long run. 2. Balance of items - To keep an even balance of items throughout the map will be difficult. How can the developers ensure a proper inflow (spawning) and outflow (looting) of items in any town without complex formulas and multiple months of testing. This is tied to problem #1. 3. False hope - A server admin can just decide one day to wipe his server, meaning all your items go bye-bye. Or the server you stored your items turns off the power switch. There is a false hope that with persistence, a players items are safe no matter where they drop them. Tents, houses, etc. Players want a clear understanding of how to protect their items. If they put them in a house, or if they put them in a tent or if they leave the item in their backpacks, there must be a confidence that their items are safe. 4. Trial and error - Perfecting persistence (I believe is possible) will take lots and lots of testing and patches/server wipes to get it right. The developers need to see how items move from location to location. This means that they'll regularly have to wipe characters. Do we really want to deal with more wipes in the future? My answer: Use Ultima Online's item dynamic, it's simple and straight forward. It worked in 1996 and would work now by keeping a cap on total server items. 1. Items left in tents never decay, but the tent will if you don't interact with it within 14 days. If server gets shut down you are still SOL. 2. Each player can only place 2 tents per server. 3. Items picked up and dropped on the ground will decay in 24 hours. Items not touched will decay and respawn on server reboot. 4. Therefore, a player who drops his backpack on the ground to use his Ghillie bushrag will still have his items if the server crashes. At the same time, this prevents people from dropping 100 M4s at the corner of the map. 5. Servers will reboot every 2-4 hours, with a warning. This will keep a limit on items stored either in a tent or in a player's inventory. This negates the fear of dropping an item on the ground at an inopportune time (server crash). This keeps towns with a fresh rotation of items. This allows developers to go spend their time working on other fun things. Thanks, now flame away.

    Why even persist?

    4) this game will never see full release, its making too much money in alpha 3) true, but it still puts a player in the false hope that their stuff is protected 2) my point is that perfecting persistence may be a waste of man hours that the developers could be focusing on other features, i think you would find half or more of players don't care for it anyway 1) this is a slippery slope that I've seen fail for big games before (online games), the idea that a person must upgrade to a top of the line system or processor to make the game work properly. It just makes players frustrated at the game devs

    do cars need fuel?

Ok. I've probably logged over 30 hours in V35 since they came out. I drive for hours and don't refuel. Let me explain some strategy to this forum because it seems like nobody knows this. a) Jerry cans can be carried on your person without taking up inventory spots, I am not going into details on this specifically. Regardless, get a jerry can and drop it off at a gas station if you can't figure out how to hold on to it. When I log back in in a minute, I will have a jerry can waiting for me. b) Find a vehicle, drive it to the same gas station. c) Refuel jerry can by holding it in hands and aiming at a fuel pump, then turn around and fill up the truck (passenger side is only side I get the Refuel option). d) Repeat C 4-5 times. It only takes 4-5 "refuels" to fill the truck, which will run for about 2 hours straight. The animation of refueling the truck doesn't even matter, so you can refuel the truck in under 15 seconds if you are good. Then it's off to the races. I drive in 3rd person with the hood up, rumor is that the hood will protect you from bullets, not sure about this.

    Netting Rarity Reduced?

Yah it's not rare. I picked up 4 netting in the first boat I saw and 1 netting on the next, with 5+ other items around the boats on a NON-persistent server. Then I found a ton of burlap and realized I dont really want the ghillie top, it's stupid.
  23. Bold move, but necessary. I have hit 400+ hours of DayZ and only play it because a) my wife is ok with it b) I have a job c) I have a degree d) you get the point. There was a time where I had to work on all of those, but that time has passed. There are always things IRL you can do to improve yourself so configuring the best work/life/play balance is important. Good luck with your degree.

    next wipe

If they do I will turn from friendly player into slaughtering every new spawn I can find. A wipe does nothing for the game.

Why is Bohema so bad when it comes to AMD?

I won't troll you like the rest of this teenage forum, however.. My brother in law works for Radeon and makes the cards, he presented to me a couple good points. First, Radeon are the ones that actually optimize their drivers to work with many games. The developers of games usually hand them a pile of shit and say "make your cards work better with our game". AMD must work on profiles for each game to stop people from blaming them for a making a shitty GPU. Second, the game itself is in alpha and the team hasn't really optimized the game. Your video card is working hard drawing the insides (and shadows) of multiple buildings that aren't even in sight or meaningful to gameplay. It's a terrible inefficiency that I hope they will correct. Finally, the game actually doesn't push the GPUs to their max performance. I have 3x 7970s and only hit 25% usage on each, I am not bottlenecking the CPU either. The game doesn't know how to ASK the GPUs for the proper amount of power/performance. It's a mess that I hope they correct. WWIIOnline had a similar problem with drawing too many useless objects, they sort of corrected the issue but not totally. It would make your brand new system look like a IBM 386. Pretty sad but it all falls back on proper development and graphics logic.
