This. I have no motivation to play right now knowing that my stuff is probably going to be wiped at the most inconvenient moment. I am also not one of those players who runs around dying every 15 minutes in Berezino. I think the game probably gets boring for those folks.

I bought this game because of the mind twisting reviews came across online. I haven't played a game that allowed a player such freedom to kill, love, hate, explore, build since Ultima Online. Most other games since the 1996 hit have been extremely restricting in their play styles, tunneling players into certain scripted outcomes. DayZ was freedom once again. You can farm, hunt, PvP, PvM, role play.. it's as much sandbox as it is 1st/3rd person shooter. If DayZ shut it's doors tomorrow, I would be contempt in knowing I had already satisfied the value of my $35.00 I spent over 1000+ game hours ago. In short speak, I've got my money out of this game, even in it's Alpha stage. It's been fun, but frustrating at the same time. I know it's Alpha, but I don't care. The game is fun as it is, I just hope the dev's don't ruin it. As far as value of my $35.00 goes, I am definitely playing on the houses' money right now.

you will die.... Instead, chop the tree down first, let the vehicle settle, then get in.

Buddy and I decided to explore the north for tents, after he found a small one I found this monster with another tent nearby, plus vehicles, 10+ more backpacks full of ammo. Exploration can be very lucrative in this "base development" era.

PSA: don't enter vehicle that is touching a tree

Well the truck got destroyed but you lived. Throwing an item at the truck works instead of firing a round at it. -
...it was all in this single desolate barn. Problems solved.

will there be a Boeing AH-64 Apache someday for Dayz standalone?
treetop82 replied to joshua barreto's topic in Suggestions
Hopefully no. -
We didn't take their tents, just armed up and left in a vehicle of theirs. The next day the camp was gone, but I found it again lol. I also ran into 4 military tents near the Mishinko military camp on the west side. I do wonder if mines and beartraps are persistent though. If a server resets, do you lose the item? If so, then placing them right now might be pointless, unless you are in a very busy area or the server has a full 40 people. Also, when we approach tents we expect them to be rigged to explode. I usually walk in very slow and look for mines. I have blown myself up once with one, and you literally have to walk right on top of it.

I think the devs left the "simple" method on the side of the road a long time ago. Obviously, whatever they are crafting with the central economy and persistence is very complicated. Which means they will have to use more brain cells working out all the bugs later on.

The Steyer Aug definitely does, when the rifle has a silencer on it and you fire single shot, it makes no more sound than a "click". Very hard to hear and completely badass. I've had no luck with any other weapon switching firing modes.

So the way I read it was that the devs are going back to 0.54 loot system?
treetop82 replied to HarryPotter (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Good for them, they recognized a mistake and fixed it. Apparently loot bombs on the shitter weren't really the realism they were targeting. Now, for the love of God. I could seriously develop a modest loot spawning system in about 30 minutes. I have no idea what the dev's issues are with this. To be honest, I think they are just experimenting with code right now. <For example> A hammer is designated a "utility" item. A "utility" item can spawn in "utility" areas (80%), "residential" areas (10%), "military" areas (5%), "police" areas (2%), "farm" areas (3%). There can only be 105 hammers on a server. </Example> Set the label and percentage for each item and you are done. -
Seasoned vet here.. Started a new spawn 3 times, first since 0.55. Both chars on the coast, started off sprinting 3 towns in, still died of starvation on all. Found a total of 1 backpack along the way. Berries and apples wouldn't cut it. My character went from slightly hungry to dead by starvation in 20 minutes (horribly unrealistic). No weapons to fight zombies as well. The central loot economy is working, that's for sure. Objects are spawning far far northwest while all chars on spawning along the coast. I am really not sure what the Devs are intending to do right now, but the game is extremely difficult to get started but easy when relocated to the north/northwest. This loot system has been over-complicated to the point that the Devs can't even handle it. Either fix the economy itself or spread out the spawn points. Having both is boldly incompetent.

Find new friendly people to play with in DayZ
treetop82 replied to Tent survivor's topic in General Discussion
being friendly ends up with a black screen of death... unless you are on the European servers, then most those "bloats" are quite nice. -
Exactly. In reality, you can just stick a piece of meat on a stick and hold it over a fire. Or set the meat on top of a hot stone next to a fire and cook it. You don't need a tripod to cook. That's why I wish they'd just ditch this method all together and just go back to the way it was.
-
Just wondering how this is going to go down... are landmines going to be persistent on the map? If so, with what we know about the central economy, the map could become littered with tons of random landmines.
-
What you fail to grasp is that there would be thousands of landmines scattered over the map at some point, its in an inflow/outflow problem leading to instant death. is that something you think is good for the game?
-
Probably dyed a purple, or deep blue color...?
-
Which is dumb, I'm all for the rarity of food. However, dying in 30 mins of starvation is probably the dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen.
-
..which seems to be about everyone who plays this game except for my friend and I. I've read post after post of people wanting even MORE zombies, basically to the point at which you can't do anything but fight them or die. For those who want every single square foot covered by a blood-thirsty zombie, can I please send you to an old favorite game called Left 4 Dead? Yes, you can fight all the zombies you want there. Even better, I'm sure Steam will give you a discount on the game because it's several years old. Go circle jerk there. For those who enjoy an game with variety, realistic survival, socializing, PvP, banditry and heroism, then stick with DayZ. What I hope to eventually see are random zombie spawns, random hoards that come after you, etc. I hope that some towns would be empty while others would have massive amounts of Zeds. I'd love to see random groups of Zeds moving through the forests. There must be some sort of realism that makes the player feel paranoid yet reasonably immersed. If you just end up sticking thousands of zombies in each town, you will ruin the game. Zombies can and should be deadly, but to an equipped player they are a nuisance. Adding too many zombies will cause a serious degradation of fun factor from this amazing game.
-
Most of you see where I am coming from. Yes, more zombies would be a good thing IF they are introduced with some sort of fun factor involved, random about the world, drop some loot, hoards chasing around animals, etc. Currently, the game literally just spawns boring piles of zombies at some ratio around a town. (30 zombies for every half mile around a town, for example). This is dumb. More zombies in towns = stupid. More zombies throughout the world, in random places, doing random things, dropping loot, spawning out of triggered events, etc = fun Scenario: You should run into a small town, see one or two zombies maybe. You run into the next town and there is a dead cow in the middle of the town, with 30 zombies sitting around it, some eating the flesh. You quietly sneak around that town to avoid triggering the hoard. You move on to the next town where you see no zombies, so you take refuge in a house for a little while. However, just outside of a town there is a random hoard of zombies standing in the forest, you get close and they give chase. Your only option is to mow them down as two or three of them are faster than you. After killing the lot, you loot the bodies to find some bandages, anti-biotics, .357 rounds and a teddy bear. Finally, you head over to an army base to look for some loot. A few army zombies chase you but you kill them as well and find some .556 rounds on their body. Then you move to another location and see a heavily zombie infested village, to distract them you shoot a few mosin rounds into the gas pumps, creating an explosion. The zombie hoard forms and runs to the gas station, letting you circumvent the group and loot the other side of the town. Edit: Also, zombie bodies should last longer than 5 minutes (more like an hour), and should not respawn unless the area is empty of players for over an hour.

Rich gets richer, the poor gets poorer
treetop82 replied to Victorinox's topic in General Discussion
Yah they did, they also know that ignoring whining people like you is essential to them getting the game configured properly. I have started many characters and every time ended up with good weapons and military gear. This new patch will be no different, you just have to look in more places. Apparently police stations drop good loot, try there. The game is supposed to be difficult, gone are the days you run into a house in a city and find 3 cans of beans. -
Played for 10 mins yesterday, in a desolate area I found tons of loot bombs. The system gets worse and worse, they are making it more complicated than it should be.
-
I think it will be interesting. Players will start to hear more gunshots coming from town, as a player desperately tries to escape a rush of zombies. I think it will be harder to remain silent and undetected in a town. I think the mosin players will not have a good time surviving a hoard, while an AKM with 75 round drum would mow them down.

cargo trucks are slower to accelerate, and overall if a server reboots with you in a truck, you will respawn at the last point at which you entered a truck. So consider where you are on foot prior to a server reboot, if you know it's coming. a truck with no wheels has been shot up. If you hit the engine block directly with 10-30 rounds (havent tested it myself precisely) then the vehicle will catch fire and all tires will burn up. You won't be able to get into the vehicle.

How does the loot spawn actually work with persistence?
treetop82 replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
Servers hopefully won't always restart, that's retarded that they become "bogged down" by being up too long. Makes me think there is a serious memory leak that devs won't fix.
