In my opinion, the current compass is an example of over-design.
St. Jimmy replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in General Discussion
The current compass is nice but it's ruined because of the slow animation/weapon changing system. When that gets addressed I'll be very happy about it. I really like the feeling that you need to watch it. -
How come I can see so well at night, but others can't?
St. Jimmy replied to ZombieGuy23's topic in New Player Discussion
I usually get darker night if I turn off the clouds. -
3rd person feels like a cheat against the zombies too not just against the other players.
-
Trade off that's totally unbalanced. You would need to exposure pretty much of yourself to get that field of view from that chimney.

This all happened already in 2012. You're over a year late. Move along.

$20,178,270.00 and 14 days later and this is looking alot like what war z did
St. Jimmy replied to Eventus's topic in General Discussion
When devs are on a holiday they don't communitace that much with the community because they're on a holiday. But no communication? Well we got Hicks who worked over the Christmas :) https://twitter.com/Hicks_206 But I agree that the communication in the official forums could be better. It's all about the Lambos, bitches and heroin -
For all of those that want to raise the player limit
St. Jimmy replied to The Legit Pie's topic in General Discussion
I think 50 players on one server is already enough but I'd like to see also inland spawns. -
Well this is a "hardcore" game but in reality this is pretty casual on some points and 3rd person is a very good example. DayZ attracts many casual players and that's why it's there.

First I say this shouldn't come in yet because the game is in a very early alpha state ridden of bugs, hackers and all kinds of loopholes that can kill you and that can make this system annoying. This suggestion is for public hive and how it should be run. I suggest that Y amount of servers should share one database. For example all DE1 servers have their own hive, DE2 have their own, NJ1 have their own etc. Different hives have naturally different characters and loot share but the big thing on my suggestion is that you can't make a new character in X amount of days/weeks/months. So if you die in a DE1 hive server you can't join those servers for the X amount of time but you can play another character in DE2 hive. This way if you die it will have some impact on you because you can't play with your friends on the hive where you died for some time but you need to go alone or move with your friends in a different hive and naturally your friends have different characters on the different hive ;) This kind of system would really bring the game more perma death feeling and you can't just run over your old body and loot your old stuff etc. The amount of time you're banned from the hive needs to be enough long and I suggest something like 2 weeks. The wider amount of servers that share the same hive the more hardcore this suggestion is. Just need to find a great balance how many hives there should be on the public so people don't need to move on an Australian server if they live in Europe after couple of deaths. With the system that we have now the death doesn't really feel enough permanent. You just die and couldn't care less about it. I'm not sure would this reduce KoS but if you want to take the risk you need to pay the price if you screw up. Spawn campers/trollers need to be handled first because that would be the main problem of this sytsem. What do you guys think? /Maybe we need this to be for the hardcore hives only so casual players won't get upset?...

Suggestion for a better perma-death feeling
St. Jimmy replied to St. Jimmy's topic in General Discussion
I can't wait how hardcore Rocket wants to go with "perma-death". I'm afraid that there won't be any "perma-death" feeling unless something radical or hardcore is done. But making some hardcore hives how I suggested wouldn't ruin the game for "casuals"? -
Suggestion for a better perma-death feeling
St. Jimmy replied to St. Jimmy's topic in General Discussion
Yep but your friends can loot your corpse and there's always a chance that you spawn very close where you died. Also if loot storage like tents are ever introduced in standalone this kind of system would reduce their effectiveness because you can't instatnly run on your tent to gear up. The player can be there but it can't kill you for the second time in a next minute which is kind of dumb and does take away the perma death feeling when basically the same guy runs over on the same place in a next 5 minutes. Well private hives and maybe then some non hardcore hives could be introduced for people who just want to quickly play with their friends. Maybe this suggestion should be only for hardcore hives. -
Suggestion for a better perma-death feeling
St. Jimmy replied to St. Jimmy's topic in General Discussion
Private hives, play on a different public server where everyone of your friends can make a new character or has a charatcer alive. This wouldn't stop you playing with your friends. This is a hardcore game. -
No it's not.

V for vaulting or jumping is the solution. Just try to spam it everywhere in every way and you'll probably get out. -
Anticheat needs to be integrated FAST....
St. Jimmy replied to t1337dude's topic in General Discussion
Those people who are like that "Well it's only 24€, I can pay it again easily." -
Hype is over. DayZ is ded geim. Me and my friends won't buy it because it has taken so long... Most sold game over the christmas sale except that couple hours Skyrim sale.

Bring back weapon lengths obscuring your movement indoors.
St. Jimmy replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
The movement inside wouldn't be clunky if you don't always keep your weapon up... It's pretty easy to adjust that in the controls and Rocket almost suggested that for less KoS solution. -
Play less the game or for example hunt all the buildings down that have something wrong like a wall coming through. I've forget to test if the gun/weapon collision change affect some of the stuck in stairs bugs etc. The worst thing is to wore the game out too soon.

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/157661-third-person-view-removal-from-sa-discussion/ No need for a new one again. In the end I don't care that much if they've separate databases and if they remove it and modding comes in at some point, I'm sure someone would implement 3rd person back again.

Actually I've understood they're going to use both VAC and BE.

Time to post again our good old Santa: He really likes to eat and torture children and take their skulls. Also reindeer is tasteful for him.

Experimental has different database but then you need to change between experimental and normal. Also experimental is 1st person only.

Let's summarize some arguments: 3rd person has peripheral vision - Use triple screens or similar and get used to move your head with alt. After getting used to it you wonder why no other game has freelook 3rd person has better FoV - It's the same and now we even have a slider for FoV 3rd person doesn't have head bob - You can turn that off in 1st person 3rd you can see your character - You can see it also in your gear menu So you're only using it because someone allowed it and now you're use to it and there's no way you won't take an advantage of it. Only good thing about 3rd person is that we can watch over the shelves to see if there's anything because the game doesn't have hopping or climbing but that doesn't really help because if you can't see it in the 1st person you can't grab it.
